It's not just balls and strikes. There aren't many plays in sports more exciting than a play at the plate. Penalty shots in hockey (not after overtime, but awarded in-play) and onside kicks are really all I can think of. Give the Horde a cookie. We collectively called this long ago. And this is the primary reason I'm against government sanction of homosexual relationships. Once you assert that marriage is something mankind just made up and could have made however we wished, then there is no defense against a whole host of ills: polyamory, incest, pedophilia, bestiality, necrophilia. Every perverted, abhorrent thing becomes not just "tolerated" (even those things, such as pedophilia, which should not even be tolerated), but celebrated. The societal consequences will be enormous, whatever the idiots say. Yes, it will hurt the institution of marriage. Yes, it will hurt children. Yes, it will hurt society. Just because you can't see it yet doesn't mean it won't do it. Posted by: AllenG (DedicatedTenther) - Not dead yet at June 30, 2015 09:32 AM (kff5f) 46

They meant it as an epithet. I decided to wear it as a badge of honor. Posted by: AllenG (DedicatedTenther) - Not dead yet at June 30, 2015 09:41 AM (kff5f) 91
Once you assert that marriage is something mankind just made up and could have made however we wished, then there is no defense against a whole host of ills...
Allen, it's not just marriage. The conservative philosophy goes way beyond that. I'm thinking of an undergrad Econ course I took. The prof was a serious, serious lefty, so much so that he'd make Marx blush. The course was something to do with comparative economic systems and theory or some bullshit title like that. He was going on a rant one day about wealth and resource distribution. He said, flat out, that there was no 'natural' or 'moral' component to such a thing...it can be whatever we want it to be, and whatever we want it to be would definitely work, because we are humans and smart and we make our own world. Obviously, in his opinion, that things are unfair is because sinister forces are conspiring to keep it unfair to people. This is the liberal mindset in a nutshell...the prescriptions aren't faulty, but rather are constrained by sinister forces. So when gay "marriage" doesn't turn out to be the panacea for social ills that the Left thinks it will be, well, in their opinion it will be due to criminal actions, not a deficiency in the liberal philosophy itself. We need right-leaning gay couples to start showing up at mosques in

It's sad that they want to destroy the very civilization which makes her f*cked up life possible to survive. Imported into the local hetero scene from the gay world. Human nature being what it is, poly relationships work until they stop working, and then they blow up *spectacularly*. You haven't seen bitter jealous resentment until you've seen it from a self-described "open-minded, nonjudgmental" individual. I know relatively few truly durable long term poly arrangements. Number 1 was to a complete low life scum who had been married twice before and had 3 kids already. Senor Classy started cheating on her when she was 6 months pregnant and left her shortly thereafter.
The guy she married last year had also been married before and has 1 kid. He got divorced because his ex-wife had cheated on him. This is what marriage has become today. Jeb Bush called the Confederate flag "racist" Monday during his first campaign stop in South Carolina since a deadly shooting at a historic black church nearly two weeks ago. Bush recalled his own efforts "to do something politically incorrect" and remove a flag with the Confederate symbol from outside the Florida state house when he was governor there. "The symbols were racist," Bush said. News of the Future: November 2016 In a stunning political upset, Jeb Bush has lost the state of South Carolina in the Presidential election. If I am appointed King of Baseball (which I should be), in addition to the DH rule being obliterated, I will outlaw hard shells for hitters, except on their heads of course. 83 Everyone forgets the early beginnings of "Explosive Helium." In their early days, the band appeared in Munich night clubs under the name "Flatulent Neon."
Posted by: Adirondack Patriot at June 30, 2015 09:39 AM Flatulent Neon were one of the more under-rated of the early 70s Krautrock bands. Taking the avant-classical teachings of Karlheinz Stockhausen and melding that with the outlandish, heavily improvised psychedelia of the American west coast scene, Flatulent Neon created the template for better known bands such as Agitation Free, Ash Ra Tempel and early Tangerine Dream. I recommend their debut album, Rockmusiksession and the follow-up, Krautrockmusiksupersession1972. Posted by: Citizen X at June 30, 2015 10:03 AM (7ObY1) 194

This is not an endorsement of any political action, but everything I've seen in recent years reinforces for me how right my parents were in how they raised us. And, yes, that includes preaching no pre-marital sex, given the shenanigans on college campuses. "Carter, Clinton. Southern/Border Dem Govs that beat a handwringing Republican. Don't know if the Dems have anyone like that on their bench ATM, but if they do, they'd be a lock."
Consider the Carter and Clinton histories. Carter made an explicit (and successful) ploy in 1976 to lure in religiously and socially conservative Democrats by loudly touting his Christianity, and making comments superficially critical of _Roe_, while of course privately assuring liberal backers that he intended to defend _Roe_. Clinton prominently executed a retarded black guy to prop up his New Democrat, tough-on-crime credentials. Attacked "Sister Souljah" over rap lyrics. Printed up the now infamous Confederate-flag Clinton-Gore buttons. And (hat tip to Christopher Hitchens) bought a ton of radio ad space to tout his support for the Defense of Marriage Act. Not thinking that it would be possible to get away with comparable flim-flam in today's hypercaffeinated identity-politics environment. Then again, I look at what Obama got away with. Commenters are reminded that referencing a message number is unreliable as the number-comment relationship is subject to change after banhammer storms. Referencing the nick-timestamp-(hash) line is the recommended substitute, although the reference can still be ambiguous if a commenter left more than one comment within a minute. Was I Wrong To Support Gay Marriage
That's a great article that covers practically everything pretty well. Here's my 2 cents to add: He missed that this is a huge betrayal for for persons like himself who had good intentions. 1) For anybody who was sincere about seeking "acceptance", we now have "acceptance with a gun pointed at your head". Which is not only NOT acceptance, but makes acceptance virtually impossible. And not only virtually impossible, but PERMANENTLY virtually impossible. Some who were accepting must feel duped, and are less so. So it's a step BACKWARDS, with a brick wall erected to impede moving forward. They just look like frauds now. 2) I do not see marriage as being religiously defined, but as a obvious and necessary civil function. It's basically the "factory" that churns out the next generation. As such same-sex couples are INHERENTLY, physically, biologically, literally and OBVIOUSLY NOT THE EXACT SAME THING as opposite-sex couples - they cannot produce children, under ANY circumstances. Since the SCOTUS has decreed that they are the exact same thing, they're in denial of REALITY (not just religious traditions!), and any legal framework that recognizes reality, while recognizing rights, is impossible now. So it's a step backwards that way. 3) I'm putting it simply: Gay people have gone from being the folks with the harmless abnormality, who have been unfairly discriminated against forever, to being the folks with the crazy friends who are intent on destroying the country. In summary, they've gone from being a libertarian cause to being people married to the enemies of libertarianism - the statists. Call it a secular version of turning to the devil. "At least that's how it works for the majority of people who will be engaging in polygamy here in the US when it becomes legal. ..." I'm not a lawyer, but I'd say it already IS legal. The decision was based in "equality under the law". Making polygamy illegal is discrimination against married people, ergo polygamy is legal. Obviously that also applies to related people, so incest is now legal too. And lonely people too. It's now legal to marry yourself. Where have you BEEN the last few days, man? part of the reason we chose Asheville was because of its apparently friendliness to polyamorists. We figured itd be a safer and more socially acceptable environment for us to explore the possibilities. When we arrived, five months ago, I immediately signed us up the local polyamory meet-up group. The people in it seemed like some of the happiest Id ever met. Hey, everybody in this cult is soooo friendly! Plus, we all get a free trip when the comet gets here. I'd love to corner Prime Minister Cameron alone:
"So Bruce self identifies as a woman, is he one?" "Um yeah" "Rachel Dolezal self identifies as black, so is she?" "I guess..." "ISIS self identify as Islamic so..." "F'NO!!! I see where you're going! They're NOT Islamic!" "Mr. Cameron, over half the Muslims in your country are sympathetic to the Charlie Hebdo terrorists. When Drummer Rigby was beheaded they stood by and did nothing. Yet you clasp your hands and look beseechingly at them saying, 'you guys recoil every time you hear the words Islamic State, right? Right?' Why don't you go seek them out and beg them to behead you, if that is your wish, but to put innocent Britons in harm's way, like the Rotherham girls, is despicable. You are infecting the body of England with the religious equivalent of ebola, you craven turd." Posted by: John Boehnbag at June 30, 2015 11:01 AM (6qR/9) 392
@356 ...
"I keep coming back to Ernst Rohm and the SA. I have to think that homosexuals are aggrieved, angry, vengeful and ruthless enough to be just the tool for totalitarianism to use to push it into power." You got me looking up who that was, whic was interesting. I guess the idea is that he was one of the Nazis key people, loyal leader of their most brutal enforcement forces, and was they betrayed. Well, OK, I see some similarity, but there's an important distinction that he did NOT have good intentions before he was betrayed, and the people he was helping were evil by definition (it wasn't that some were evil and some weren't). As to your second paragraph, I might not go as far as say "ruthless", but you're spot on with the rest. The "angry" and "vengeful" parts are evident by the way they rejected the Civil Union compromise that would have given them what they wanted - they had to have it in a way that was "in your face" vs the churches, and they had the churches in their sites before they were even done with their "in your face" celebrating. Oh, one more point. THE RAINBOW FLAG IS NOW THE OFFICIAL FLAG OF THE PC INQUISITION. You heard it here first! Posted by: Optimizer at June 30, 2015 11:02 AM (/q6+P) 393

'Until the Supremes spin the "Wheel of Rights".' Indeed! As Scalia mercilessly pointed out, the scholarship, professionalism, and any attempt at even making a decent argument, have gone out the window. There's no credibility at all. I'm convinced that Roberts is either lacking the intestinal fortitude for his job, or has just plain been compromised. "This is what marriage has become today. Which is why the anti-SSM argument of "OMG HEY MARRIAGE IS GOING TO DESTROY THE SANCTITY OF MARRIAGE!!" is 100% pure bullshit. " You are missing the point. Marriage has been under attack by the regular culture for a long time. No-fault divorce, etc. etc. The societal purpose of marriage is to foster stable, child-producing, largely self-reliant (i.e. trades with the rest of society, rather than leeching from the rest of society). Many previous developments have been damaging to marriage and family. Homosexuals and now the State demanding that homosexual shacking-ups be accorded the same respect as marriage was originally given is twisted nonsense, and it further weakens an already damaged institution that has heretofore been one of the foundational institutions of Western Civ. Apparently your belief is that because marriage has been poorly treated by some of it's traditional practitioners, we should just shrug at the efforts of idiots and deviants to smash it to pieces. Claiming that deviancy that does not even remotely serve the original societal intent of marriage must now also be called marriage and given the same respect as the original in fact does undermine the sanctity of the original. Your opinion is what is 100% bs. Posted by: revolting peasant at June 30, 2015 11:50 AM (PcxGS) 397
