It is neither ordained by God nor required by the Constitution. Mostly what it serves to do is lock Democratic wins into place and make it impossible for conservatives to pass anything. The GOP has never held a filibuster proof majority in the Senate so it's not a positive tool for passing things and locking them in. Yes, the Democrats will some day have a majority and pass spectacularly horrible things but they do that anyway. All the filibuster really does is make it easier for liberal Republicans to collaborate with Democrats to create and save programs. Removing the filibuster would create a balance of terror that is lacking now. Democrats know they can pass programs and there's nothing the GOP can do in response. Make them fear what the next GOP majority will pass when they are helpless. Once the filibuster is gone, what should the GOP do? 2- Create two or four new Supreme Court seats.
Yes, pack the court to the gills. Again, there's nothing magical about having nine justices at a time. If the Court is going to serve as a Super-Legislature it should be larger. Liberals want to play games and make SCOTUS the center of the government, fine. That's there move now it's our turn to play come Calvinball and change the rules. Harry Reid nuked the filibuster to pack the DC Court of appeals so the precedent,
not that government by Calvinball requires one, has been set. Game on. None of the new justices should be older than 50 or so and all should be
unabashed conservatives. They don't even have to be lawyers. Justice Charles C.W. Cooke has a nice ring to it, no? 3- Eliminate withholding.
Again, there's nothing sacred about the way we collect our taxes. If people want big, crushing government, fine. Make them feel it and let them see how much it costs them. I think hiking taxes is bad policy and economics but it can be good politics, so if as a sop to independents and even Democrats I'd support a 15 or 20% surcharge on the net worth of the top 1% to sweeten the pot. The "donor class" has been spending lots of money pushing big government types. Fine, pony up even more. 4- Repeal ObamaCare and a whole host of other laws.
Hey it's Calvinball, you can do whatever you want! Have at it. Will the GOP, especially a Mitch McConnell led Senate, do any of these things? No. Even if the GOP wins the presidency, the Senate majority will probably be smaller. Faced with the usual mid-term losses of the party in power, McConnell will retreat even further into a shell to protect his useless members. For them, it's about winning to stay in office,, not to do anything with those wins. Even if the GOP was willing to "pack the Court" there's no reason to believe a GOP President wouldn't just appoint a bunch of Souter, Kennedy and Roberts types. Could all of this backfire at some point in the future even if it payed dividends in the short and/or medium term? Sure but we know for a fact that if we keep playing by the rules of the game as they exist we'll lose more now AND in the future. I understand these ideas are not temperamentally conservative. One should not rush to throw old systems away on a whim. The problem is the old systems we love have been thrown away. We simply need to accept that. Everything I've advocated, while disruptive are within the bounds of the Constitution. They don't require us to ignore laws or invent new rights. We just need to be willing to take advantage of the moves we are allowed to make now. But the GOP will do none of this. They will either promise you unattainable Constitutional amendments or suggest you meekly assent to liberal usurpations. And my guess is, that will be good enough for most conservatives. Enjoy the decline. But hey...Go GOP, right?

Better--The intent of the 4th, 5th, and 6th Amendments was that no citizen should pay any money to the federal government unless convicted of a crime by a jury of his pears. And that the federal government cannot enact nor enforce any criminal laws.

Since the trust fund is basically bankrupt, it won't be long before awful decisions will be necessary as to which programs will be able to continue.
You can go the "President Underwood" (see "House of Card") route and steal all the "entitlement money" to fund new programs, like ObamaCare .. or you can save a program that Democrats have claimed for half a century is "untouchable."
Do it under the aegis of saving Social Security.

I think the impracticality and very slim chances of everything being proposed reflects our lack of useful options - not the quality or sincerity of the proposals, BTW. When your electorate is (sufficiently) ignorant irresponsible and bereft of historical American values and mindset; when there is no real opposition party; when the very language of the civic culture has been undone (words mean nothing, oaths mean nothing, unlimited bad faith from key actors) - then one's options are not readily apparent.
Note: the same reason much of this has happened is the reason we here represent a small slice of the populace. Not our views, the very fact we are even thinking and aware of most of these things. That inertia of indifference and distraction is at least as big a daunting problem as the others.

There has to be a better way with the filibuster, though. Can't they, with a majority vote, (at least in Calvinball) do away with the filibuster only when there is a President in office who stands more than 6'5" or something like that? How about more than 6'4" and/or weighs more than 270 pounds? Let's start getting Presidents that look like Kings, after all they are acting like them.

I have not fully thought it through, but maybe instead of eliminating government agencies and departments, we create new ones. Ones that have functions similar to already existing departments, only they don't have any employees or much of a budget.
Then cut the budgets of those departments that already exist, and have 500,000 employees doing the work that the new department does with about 150.
That way when they say "oh, you want to cut out grandma's tapioca pudding, you cruel bastards?" Your response can be "oh no, we're not cutting it out, that's now a function of the U.S. Department of Nice Tapioca Pudding And Yams, Figs, Onions, Rutabagas, Iced Tea.

Well, I have to disagree with you about going full Obama.
It's time. Way past time.
The Age of Consensus is dead.
It's simply about who's willing to use the power while they have it.
If we want anything approaching, the society and gov't we had before, we have to play the Left's game and play it hard.(And yes, I realize the irony of that statement.)
If the Reps can manage not to screw the pooch and elect a Conservative Federalist.
He has to be willing on Day One to pass laws that will return Fed agencies such as the EPA to the states(all states have their own EPAs anyway), etc.
As well as other laws that defund and horrify the Left.
Wide open fracking and building of nuke plants is a good start. We need cheap, reliable energy if we're to compete with other countries and still pay good wages and bring manufacturing back.
Also, taking a good hard look at all the "green energy" graft and corruption should be a no brainer. Solyndra, anyone?
All the your other ideas are good as well.
HOWEVER, the next Rep Prez must be a real political bastard- and have a "Come to Jesus" talk with both Boneless and Turdle should they remain in place.
We can't have Boneless/Turdle blabbing on TV after the election about how we're going to finally run Congress to be bipartisan and build consensus.

Then the contract to build the Batmobile was signed 6 days later on September 1.
Batmoblie was delivered 41 days later on October 11th.

The only way to fix the court is the method I talked about over the past several months. Take ALL court appointments away from DC and give it to the States. One Supreme per State and all federal courts located in a State have judges appointed by that State.

I fully believe that government should only involved in the bare minimum. Keep the streets safe. Make sure the roadways and other infrastructure are up to code. Give kids a basic education. Keep the air and water supply non-lethal. And, that's pretty much it.
Sadly, the government has failed on all of these fronts. The absolute bare bones, basic stuff that they are responsible for, they have failed at. They have no business being responsible for anything else.

I don't think we have anymore circuit courts. We do have multistate appeals courts. Treat them the same the supremes are treated, 1 judge from each State covered.

As in, we're spending so much more than we're taking it, that no matter what we do, we cannot decrease the revenue going to DC for DECADES just to pay off the last 10-15 years of spending.

BTW, the IRS harassment continues. One of my doctors was in the paper recently identified as a local Teaparty leader. The IRS decided to change the address of his office to someplace that is not his office. They refused to correct it. They are now hitting him with fines and penalties for not filing taxes from this nonexistent office. He's already spent several hundred dollars of accountant time trying to fix this.

He's a drunk, with no backbone, no underlying principles, and no coherent strategy to govern/operate as the opposition leader.
He needs to be taken down. Period. Then when the next guy steps up, we decide whether to take him down or not as well. Eventually you get somebody in there who has a purpose besides getting drunk and screwing everyone else over.

I told my parents the gross amount and then when it came through I told them the net amount and Mommy flipped out because where was the rest of it and I was all ummm taxes. AtC, the first time I got a bigish bonus (at 22 or so) I was shocked! at the taxes that came out. I guess if I'd thought it through I would have realized it, since I have a business degree and took finance and all that jazz. But it doesn't really kick in until you look at that pay stub.

Make it an absolute nightmare for people to collect massive amounts of welfare. Because right now there are so many programs and so much money floating around that no one knows who is getting what, and its not taxed or counted as income.

Example: it's is unconstitutional that person 1 pays 30% tax rate while person 2 pays a 10% tax rate. It is a basic human right to have cheap energy and it is unconstitutional that we have a ban on drilling for oil.

Getting rid of witholding, while a good idea in general, won't do much politically. 50% pay no taxes. They'd have no check to send in every quarter. Of the other 50% that does throw in a dollar or two, 1/2 of that group would be writing a check for a few hundred dollars. The truth about income taxes is that a very small group of people pay a shit ton of taxes while the vast majority pays little no taxes.

Make it an absolute nightmare for people to collect massive amounts
of welfare. Because right now there are so many programs and so much

taxed or counted as income.
So someone making $20,000 a year and bringing in $50,000 in welfare
benefits (for a total of $70k) a year is considered "poor" and gets a
net benefit on April 15th, while her neighbor who makes $40,000 a year
with no welfare benefits is considered "middle class" and has taxes
withheld from his paycheck every month, and most likely owes money on
April 15th.

Under full faith and credit it should be all 50 states.
For example, NY has to recognize my NH drivers license, my theoretical NH marriage license, and now my theoretical MA gay marriage license.
All has to be recognized. Every state is required under the constitution to give "Full faith and credit" to documents, court proceedings, etc. from every other state.
So it would SEEM TO BE a no brainer that that would include CCW's.
Then, of course, states like VT and AK have constitutional carry. Well, they don't issue any paperwork. But if they were to shall issue paperwork upon request, every other state would (seemingly) have to recognize that as well. And since you don't have to be a citizen of VT to "constitutionally carry" it would seem that we could all get paperwork saying "VT says we can carry whenever, wherever, without a permit or anything else", and that all other states would need to recognize it.
Of course... penumbras and emanations.
Plus, words are such... fluid things.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't the gay fake marriage bullshit decision mean that (1) CCW is reciprocal on all states, (2) All states are MUST ISSUE, (3) no state can have a greater burden than the least burdensome state - which is Arizona - so all states and DC must issue without tests nor fees a CCW to all non-felons?

The reason most people don't give a fuck about taxes is because most people don't pay any taxes. And the few that do, pay such a small amount, it doesn't matter if they pay it all at once or in 24 or 26 increments.
Salaried people that pay a lot of taxes, already know they pay a lot of taxes. And if you got rid of witholding all they'd do is set up a savings account and set aside some money every week or month to send to the IRS quarterly. It would be withholding by another name.

The reason most people don't give a fuck about taxes is because most
people don't pay any taxes. And the few that do, pay such a small
amount, it doesn't matter if they pay it all at once or in 24 or 26
increments.
Huge difference between having taxes withheld and having that sweet sweet money in your hot little hand, and then having to cough it back up. Not a person in a thousand knows exactly how much is withheld from each paycheck, and even if everyone knew, it's not the same as peeling off greenbacks that used to be in your possession. Psychology >> math.

But the bigger picture issue is that the LIVs don't actually pay any net taxes. Whatever is withheld is sent back as a refund. **That** is the problem. When 50%+ of the workforce pays nothing, it's impossible to win an election on the promise of lower taxes.

As Kennedy declared in his ascent, a majority of the Supreme Court can now substitute its "reasoned judgement" for the will of the people, meaning any fucking right - imagined by any group with an ax to grind, or any right declared as unalienable by the constitution - can be whatever 5 judges of the Supreme Court say it is.

Someone mentioned taxing welfare income. It sounds great, but....taxing welfare income is only going to hurt in the case of people who are truly trying and really, really need that supplemental income.
If I am an unworking single mom with a brood of kids getting 50 K a year in welfare. And, all of the sudden, I am getting taxed, and I only get 40K a year, what does that change? I am still getting 40 K a year for doing nothing. Is that 10K a year enough for me to say, "Ya know, I think I am gonna go out and get that job now...just to make as much or a little more than what I am getting now." Eh, probably not.

The 47% statistic is only true when you're talking about federal income taxes.
Regardless, it doesn't take much to really change the dynamics of this country moving forward.

Sorry to shatter everyone's illusions but ending withholding will do very little or nothing on the IRS or Income Tax in general. Why?

Mildly interesting in a detached way but they're not really relevant to buying groceries or marijuana.

Uh, dude. Drew is not suggesting that the GOP campaign on the basis of doing these things. he's suggesting that the GOP do these things, once a GOP President is elected. And the opposition will accuse them of wanting to do it, as a matter of course. They already do that.

This is a govt. version of "making the left play by its own rules", while acknowledging the fact that they change their rules mid-game.
But doing this on a govt. level requires people of the same mindset to play. The current GOP/Republicans are not those people. And conservatives (that we really need) aren't those people, because they are still stuck in playing by the rules and hoping people understand their arguments, like sane rational adults would. But 2008 and 2012 proved us oh. so. wrong.
But this approach you outline works in real, everyday life. It's called "illustrating absurdity with absurdity". You can do so in conversations with Libs or LIVs, family relationships, work, social events, etc. Learn the left's rules and hit them in the face with them. Constantly. Like a curb stomp. Learn how one big social grab (same sex marriage) leads to others (polygamy) and sincerely argue it. Make them LIVE it. If people knew same sex marriage would lead to polygamy 10 years ago, it wouldn't have the traction it does now.
An example - when Bruce Jenner (a man) identified as a woman (something he is clearly not), the Left and LIVS applauded. But when Rachel Dolezal (white) identified as black (something she clearly is not) the LIVs and Left ridiculed and scorned her. Did you catch what I wrote? They ridiculed her (see Maya Rudolph). Like they do Repubs and conservatives, their enemies. They did this because she is a living, breathing example of the real-life outcomes of their lunacy and they cannot explain that in polite company. And they can't have that be rubbed in their face, so they ridicule her and try to move on past it.
So don't let them move on. Cite her as precedent.
Same as when Joss Whedon got butt-pumped by the Feminists for "Avengers". Don't argue to protect him - he doesn't want your help and won't return the favor. Instead, argue with the Feminists against him. Make him eat the shit sandwich he spent years campaigning to put on our menu.
Conservatives need to take those instances, side with Dolezal, etc., and beat the SHIT out of the Left for their actions toward her. Is Dolezel nuts? Sure! Is it a denial of reality to help her? Sure! But we KNOW it is, and much of the Left LIVS don't.
What is the effect of supporting Dolezel? Why, affirmative action policies and other sops to "minorities" go tits up because EVERYONE can identify as a "minority" now. That will wake the blacks, et al up. Then as Republicans you offer them the road back to sanity.

The Republic of Texas and a few other red states could get these kinds of ideas passed, but not the entirety of all 57 states. Our country has become too big. Our constitution was designed for 13 states that agreed on fundamental things like 'are you born a woman, or is it a choice'. We need to move back to a Republic with 13 states, give or take.

Why do people keep saying this? Everyone gets a paystub with their paycheck do they not? And on every paycheck it shows YTD taxes paid. It's not some great mystery that would suddenly be revealed by getting rid of witholding

Most people get a direct deposit, and very few read their pay stubs. Twice I've had my payroll service put erroneous information on employee's pay stubs (for months) - the employee's never noticed. Make them write a big check at the end of Government fiscal year. Then vote two weeks later.

I'd suggest that the next time we have a big gay rights case ( which will probably involve gays wanting to force a catholic priest to marry them) we put "articles of impeachment for justice kennedy" in the docket.
It doesn't matter if we have the votes to remove him ( the month long trial will be bad enough for his personal anxiety and his legacy)
Kennedy in particular cares about his legacy, and as of now he'll probably retire as the most popular Justice since Warren ( in terms of people who write the history that is)

Also, lets start impeaching Obama officials. Will they be removed? No, but they're lives will be miserable afterwards. And a significant number of them genuinely deserve to be impeached ( including Obama himself).
