Well SCOTUS said up is down, white is black, and eat shit tax payers yesterday on Obamacare. The plain words of the law must contain some penumbras or the stupid judges spent so much time in law school they forgot how to read. But it doesn't matter anyway, even if they had ruled correctly the Repukes would have sold us out again. The flow in the toilet bowl is getting harder.

Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) on Thursday praised Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts as a remarkable and tremendous jurist who wrote a clever opinion upholding a key provision of ObamaCare. "All I can say is that the chief justice is a remarkable judge. He's a tremendous human being. I have a tremendous confidence in him and I believe in him. I differ with him on this opinion," Hatch said from the Senate floor. "On the other hand, it is a very clever opinion, and I have to say only a clever judge could have written it as well." He added that he has "tremendous respect" for Roberts, who he believed "used his talents to uphold ObamaCare." I think the other reason the MSM ( including Fox) is so Jeb inclined, is that he is the only candidate to whom Hillary! looks good by comparison. I would vote for Trump, but will not vote for Jeb. And after seeing what a Bush presidency gives us in a SC judge, even that reason (judge appointment) will not work. I also think the Fed Res will raise the interest rate right after the 2016 election, so I want a smart person in the Oval Office. Posted by: Chilling the most at June 26, 2015 06:41 AM (zW5rQ) 89

Morning, 'rons and 'ronettes. Thanks for the news, Vic.
Tony Randall tells a story of his days on the set of The Odd Couple. Even when he and / or Jack Klugman felt a script wasn't up to par, they went ahead and shot it, believing that their writers would be able to punch it up or that they would be able to improve it as they went along. Randall had, on occasion, threatened not to do a script, but always managed to be talked back into it. But during one reading, Randall was adamant. The particular script they were discussing was impossible, he said, and he refused to do it. "We've got to do it, Tony," the show's producer said. "I've spent $5000 on it. And besides which, it's good - very good." "It's not good,"Randall responded. "We'll make it good." "It's no good and I'm not going to do it, Jerry." "Well, what am I going to do with it?" the producer asked. "Sell it to another show," Randall suggested. The producer threw up his hands in despair. "But who'd buy a piece of shit like this?" Here's the weekly Ziegfeld Girl, Mary Jane Nickerson: http://goo.gl/WdYvJY And now I'm off to find a couple of Stars and Bars stickers for my motorcycle helmet. Hope you all have a wonderful weekend. Seems like it might be a good time to once again to put up the words of Fr. Walter Ciszek. the PA born American Priest who was first imprisoned and tiortured in Lubiankta prison and then sent to the Gulags in the Soviet Union.
The body can be confined, but nothing can destroy the deepest freedom in man, the freedom of the soul, and the freedom of mind and will. These are the highest and noblest faculties in man, they are what make him the sort of man he is, and they cannot be constrained. Even in prison a man retains his free will, his freedom of choice. Even in prison, a man can choose to do good or evil, to fight for survival or to despair.. His book, "He Leadeth Me" is one of the most inspiration I have read. He has destroyed the respect that most conservatives had for the institution of the courts. Thanks to him and Eric Holder the disdain and contempt of the "Justice System" in this country is complete. My response to everyone hanging on Supreme Court decisions to "save" something from Obamacare. Focus on the Congress and the Senate. This is a political problem, not a legal one. The Republicans need to put their alternative in place -- and Republicans had an opportunity at their last (not this) majority in both houses, but failed to do so.
There were some real needs addressed by Obamacare; unfortunately its purpose was not to address those needs, but to line the pockets of supporters and to enable insurers to drive out competition, and to nbuild a permanent Marxist -- not Democratic -- Party. More hollowing out of the U.S. We need to focus. It purpose was ideology and lies. We need to wake up. the Supreme Court cannot solve these kinds of problems. Why are "we" so stupid -- conservatives, libertarians, classical liberals, independents. Take marxist jargon/social equality stuff and re-think it in equality of opportunity terms, where all the above "identities" understand that there is no "equality of opportunity", in comparison to the opportunities of middle/upper middle/upper classes when you come from the lower (not less worthy) levels. this is O's "white supremacy" -- he has taken the gift of American work ethic and smarts and turned it into evil. We need to turn him into the Evil. Also stop the response to O's "you didn't build this" with a return of the projection -- yes, I,I,I did and I am proud of it. Contain, reflect, and return the truth. "You are right, we all built it -- but you -O- are trying to behead one part of the "all" which will stop the entire engine that builds real value. We all are in this together -- you are trying to destroy the best economic E Pluribus Unum ever created in history." The kicker here is that some level of protection re health care (similar to that of the "upper" levels) has to be in place or "the workers" will know that it is a lie this idea of a "we". No equal opportunity if you and your family can be devastated from unfortunate health/medical circumstances. Posted by: pyromancer76 at June 26, 2015 07:45 AM (zvcr8) 167

Warning: Not 100% spoiler free, but not much more than the Amazon synopsis or the book's jacket flaps give away.
With weeks and weeks of vacation, I expected to cruise through 867 pages of Neal Stephenson's Seveneves at my usual clip and report back to you lot three weeks ago. Then life got complicated, and I've been banging away at it in bathroom-sized chunks for almost a month. In short: definitely worth the time. I'll definitely reread it and I'm glad someone spent 67% of list price for the hardback instead of me waiting two years for a used copy. The first 80% is mainly an engineering story -- how do we get a reasonable sample of humanity safely into space before meteors destroy the surface of the Earth? The remaining 20% is set 5,000 years later, when the descendants of the survivors return to repopulate a reborn Earth. Way too much technological exposition in the first pary -- Neal showing off all the geological and robotics research he did, fetishizing each clever gadget. I loved that kind of stuff when I was 13, but a lot less now, and wished for more character. Way too much sociological and cultural exposition in the second part, but a good mystery, lots of action and a very "Fellowship of the Ring"-style quest. Aptly, a self-important woman president of the United States is the main villain, source of needless conflict and waste in the face of armageddon. But a science-explaining TV clown (modeled after Ace's favorite TV clown) gets way more hero worship than he deserves. So the party politics are a wash. But private enterprise and the U.S. military earn their props in the ultimate rescue of humankind, so overall Seveneves gets the wingnut seal of approval. Slightly below The Diamond Age and Cryptonomicon, a notch above Snow Crash and the Baroque Cycle. Posted by: Spellcheck, M.D. at June 26, 2015 08:17 AM (1mPbg) 236

@204 The Articles of Session- it's language has nothing to do with the Constitution Amendment I mentioned. The Congress and President supported this Amendment that said:
No amendment shall be made to the Constitution which will authorize or give to Congress the power to abolish or interfere within any State, with the domestic institutions thereof, including that of persons held to labor or service by the laws of said State. If the Southern states came back into the union slavery would have been protected by a Constitutional amendment. The North wanted to preserve the union, the south wanted it's independence, that is the war. If it was about the South keeping slavery the South had no reason to go to war. I have no intention of arguing every little "but", the fact is the South had no reason to go to war over slavery. That is a lie. The history and facts are there for anyone to read and see. The fact is they don't want to. It may spoil their myth, we were the good guys, you were the bad guys. MYTH. Posted by: Case, Mors Semper Tyrannis at June 26, 2015 08:45 AM (HSAmh) 321

I'm sincerely considering adopting it for my Twitter, Google, and FB avatars. I've never really cared much about it one way or the other, frankly. I mean, I identify much more strongly as a Texan than as a Southerner, so the Texas flag is much more important to me. But you don't get to tell me that I'm not allowed to revere my ancestors and their good characteristics any more than I get to tell you not to allow yours. Abraham Lincoln wasn't a saint. In some ways, he wasn't even really that good a man (in some ways). Nevertheless, he was willing to go to war for what he believed in (Union, not abolition, btw, from his own words). Wm. T. Sherman was a right bastard - who knew how to win a war. Grant would turn out to be a good general, and a horrible president. History is messy and complicated. That doesn't mean those men shouldn't be venerated. They should be- for their good qualities. But neither should we be blinded to their bad ones. Slavery was (and is) a great evil. The Southern States saw, 150 years early, where all the nationalization was going. Maybe the good of ridding ourselves of slavery was worth that price. But don't kid yourselves that it *was* the price. Posted by: AllenG (DedicatedTenther) - Not dead yet at June 26, 2015 08:50 AM (kff5f) 335

Posted by: Lauren at June 26, 2015 08:21 AM (MYCIw) Someone, I think here, pointed out that a very likely potential use of the mid-decade (and I think unConstitutional) census was to find areas populated by evil white racists that had knowingly or unknowingly exercised disparate impact on minorities by building houses in the same approximate price range and not alternating every other house with a Section 8 apartment building, just to be fair. I've been too depressed by being sold out so many times so I haven't been keeping up, but it sure seems to me that the housing decision is essentially the formal introduction of thought crime to the existing wealth of evil acts/crimes that you can be charged with by your friendly Federal DoJ. Beyond simple Union for the sake of Union, there were economic concerns, too. But world history is very different if the South secedes successfully. Does the Spanish-American war happen if the South Secedes? Does the US become a World Power, let alone a Super-power? Does it enter WWI? If the US enters WWI on the side of the allies, what side does the CSA take? And so forth. The answer, of course, is "I don't know." But I do know that post-civil war, the United States became one of the greatest forces for Good the world has known in centuries, maybe millennia. So maybe it's worth the cost. Maybe the freeing of the European Continent from Naziism is worth my loss of Freedom. Maybe the freeing of millions from the yoke of Communism is worth my loss of Freedom. It's hard to say. All I can do is look at how the world is *now* and realize that along with the sacrifices earlier generations made, my Freedom was part of the price paid. "Slavery was (and is) a great evil."
In some ways, the jury is still out on this one. We are in the very beginning of an experiment of a world without slavery, after thousands of years where it was the natural order of things. Would there be a progression in civilization if the powerful didn't dominate the weak? Where would we be now if the natural human condition dictated that everyone was equal? Which cultures would have grown? What cities would have been built? If someone falls out of tree, do we say that gravity is a great evil? Think about the questions without any regard to race. Slaves throughout the ages have been every color and religion. Focus honestly instead on what the natural order of the universe is. Normally, things tend to follow that path. I don't necessarily believe in a (human) conspiracy theory, but as a Christian I believe Satan is currently in control. Yes, the USSR was simply one form of communism--one that had geo-political dominance for many decades. The communism we're fighting now is the cultural/spiritual sort. It will have to be resisted with spiritual weapons. I don't know if you are familiar with a guy named Charlie Johnston, but he has been predicting a "Storm" for many years now. We are now in it. It will get worse, although Christ will win in the end. It's going to be a terrifying couple of years though. I know everybody's got their favorite "prophets," "seers," call them what you want. Charlie is a very sober guy who has been called to give people strength in the coming hard times. Anyway, I know that people laugh about this stuff, especially here at Ace's site.
