OK. Bringing this over from Washington Nearsider. I totally want to see this. I think I might have mentioned this in a late thread yesterday, but one of the things that makes GWTW so great is that it takes you through the whole cycle of the war. Giddy anticipation at the beginning, followed by the horrors of actual war and then trying to rebuild afterwards. It's not a 'yay civil war' movie. People who think that are idiots. Also Scarlet would cut a bitch. She was a badass. Posted by: Lea - Not Everybody Likes Us at June 25, 2015 09:37 AM (lIU4e) 40

Ugh, the news link about the apple pulling civil war games is just sad. I guess liberals hate really being reminded about their racist history.
As someone who grew up with "The Civil War was not *just* about slavery" but being told for ever that, yes it was, I have to say I'm really not surprised. When you make out an enemy to be monsters, to be sub-humans not worthy of any respect, why would you hold their monuments sacred? Slavery was a great evil over all the world. It still is, in some places. And, yes, the proximate cause of the secession of (most of) the Southern States was the likely push to abolish slavery- which, not incidentally, would have completely destroyed their economies and left their people completely impoverished for a long time. But in the skewed view of History, too many believe that was the only reason for the war. And, if that was the only reason for the war, what respect *is* due to those who defended that hateful institution? None. If none is due them, then, well, none is due them. If you accept, however, their own statements that their primary concern was not slavery in itself, but the idea that the Federal Government was usurping more and more of the States' powers- well that's a whole different thing, isn't it? At the very least, those who fought for that idea are worthy of respect for their honor and bravery, even if you believe they were mistaken. But that's too dangerous for the Progressives. If you believe those people are worthy of any respect, then you might look into their arguments. You might see a haunting similarity in events of the last few decades. You might get the idea that the Federal Government *has* become too powerful. And they can't have that. Posted by: AllenG (DedicatedTenther) - Not dead yet at June 25, 2015 09:40 AM (kff5f) 56

GWTW was recently on the big screen for a limited engagement- and since it's the Lovely and Non-Racist Mrs. naturalfake's favorite movie- we went. While the audience was mostly women and girls, 15-65, there was a fair mixture of race. Mostly White, some Black, some Hispanic, some Asian. All appeared to enjoy the movie. All laughed at the instances of humor. Even those "at Black expense". Not my thing, but it was a lovely night- spent with lovely people simply enjoying a well-made movie. Honestly, the Civil War is over. The participants dead. Their children dead. And probably, all of their grandchildren dead. No one(or vanishingly few) is alive who actually knew the participants. Whether slave, confederate, union- they are all dead. This is a ridiculous charade of outrage- about as relevant as getting all exercised over France's Fleur de Lys. The left has finally figured out the right's Achilles heel - we won't fight. Or, rather, we can't fight. We're too busy working multiple jobs or trying to keep our kids in school or keep our houses in good repair to engage in any sort of massive pushback. Because we're not organized. Go ahead, go on a tax strike. See you in PMITA prison. And is anyone going to lead a tax strike? Boner? McCocksickle? Rubio? Cruz? Fuck that - they'd be the first to insist that you must follow the "rule of law" and that there are peaceful ways to express dissent. Here's a simple test - Amazon, Target and Wal-Mart have all agreed to stop selling the Confederate flag. How many people on "our side" are willing to boycott those stores or cancel their Amazon accounts? How many people are going to take Apple to task by trashing their Ipods or Ipads? D-Lamp got banned for expressing what I have come to believe is the only solution. I also can't get past that the whole "Ban all the things" movement started with Mitt Romney; because he thought taking the CFE down would bring about healing, that it would let us move on, and no further demands would be made. What a dumbass.
If ya wanna know why the Smartest Man in the World got his ass handed to him by JEF, you now know why. And he probably wouldn't think of doing anything like this in business. Posted by: Blue Hen at June 25, 2015 10:12 AM (Spluw) 215

"If you take a civil service exam, always identify yourself as black."
Doesn't work. You get rejected for submitting a false application. 'They' get to decide your gender/identity/ethnic. Not you. You would also have to prove you were a registered democrat, voted democrat, and contributed to democrat candidates. Posted by: Thoms Nostrous at June 25, 2015 10:12 AM (gTEMl) 217

#103 I guess we're now banning history because of what some evil nut did. That's totally a rational and well thought out reaction. Once again the left sets the terms of the debate, and the GOP stupidly agrees to play by their rules. Conservative governors, congressmen, and senators all tripping over themselves in a rush to condemn something for no other reason than the drooling left demands it of them. Moving to Canada. The rule of law is over in this country when the Supreme Court lacks basic reading comprehension skills.
(I met these two nice guys in orange jumpsuits this morning on the Adirondack Northway -- probably highway workers --who were interested in going to Canada too. Seemed nice enough. The hero commander of the Second Battle of Sabine Pass and Houston's first prominent citizen is going to get the Moses treatment - banished and stricken from the record, so let it be petitioned, so let it be done.
It seems the chirrun in the HISD middle school named for the Irish bartender turned Confederate hero, the Richard W. Dowling Middle School of Fine Arts, cannot learn and excel in an institution so named. They need to let this die because it's divisive to black people, brown people, and it represents that period in history which was a bloody period; and a lot of people say it wasn't about slavery but it was, said Linda Scurlock, barking moonbat, who is collecting signatures to change the name of Dowling Middle School. Last year, the Houston school district spent about $250,000 to change mascot names, like the then-named Lamar Redskins, that were deemed offensive to the Native American Community. D-Lamp got banned for expressing what I have come to believe is the only solution. You will not stop the excesses of the left unless they are faced with immediate and personal (for which read: violent) consequences for their acts.
Posted by: Mary Poppins' Practically Perfect Piercing at June 25, 2015 10:06 AM (zF6Iw) I haven't advocated violence here or anywhere else, but I've felt for a long time that civil war--in its broadest sense--is inevitable. Obama has naked pictures of Roberts. That's the only explanation.
Posted by: Adirondack Patriot at June 25, 2015 10:17 AM Too complicated. Robert, like the rest of the SC, are no different than 535 members of Congress and Choom Boy himself. They have been given enormous power and the public does not hold them accountable for how said power is used. Like small, unsupervised, none-too-bright children given shiny toys at Christmas, they can tear the wrapping paper and, if they choose, break the toys into a thousand pieces. Mommy and Daddy will give them more. I have a solution. I won't talk about it (or try to do it myself), because Bad Consequences for me. But I DO know that tyrants, big and small, almost always come to bad ends. Sadly, too many of us will pay for their actions even more than they do. Seriously though, the Rachel Dolezal thing just doesn't bother me. Know why?
Because it came right on the heels of the Caitlyn Jenner media circus. Where a guy was praised for coming out to be his "true self." Because he always "felt" like a woman. So, basically you are whatever you "feel like" you are, and that should be respected, yes? So, if someone "feels like" they are black or white or whatever....it's the same concept.
