The New Puritans meet The Reconstruction. Pretty much the worst mashup ever.

1 Good Morning Morons. Today is Wednesday, June 24, 2015. On this day in 1916 Mary Pickford became the first female film star to sign a million dollar contract. Multi-million dollar contracts are common now but in 1916 before FDR inflated the money a million dollars was still a million dollars. We were on the gold standard then. $1M in 1916 would be worth app $21.5M now which is close to what a new actor might make in a contract.

I have some advice, the more bad a story sounds out of this administration the more likely it is true. And anything you hear from the Obamamanites has a high probability of being a lie.

9 A RINO and a Commie want to bring back debate on a gun control bill after the Charleston shooting. This crap happens every time and it NEVER makes a bill that would have stopped the shooting. It probably has a low chance of getting even out of the committee. CO proved that gun control is hazardous to political life.

Their program has never been about that because they are virtually swimming in oil and they don't need a lot of electricity to begin with. Second, any deal you make with the mullahs is not worth the paper it is printed on. Their religion says it is OK to lie to your enemies and make no mistake, we ARE their enemies. With the vandalism of Confederate monuments and the insane reaction against the flag, I have a feeling it is going to be a tough fight to remove it. The reaction after the shooting is insane. The shooting was horrifying and virtually everyone was united on that fact. Now the Leftists have turned it into a divisive issue.

I'll be darned. Actual good news:

The California Department of Motor Vehicles announced Monday that it would begin reissuing the states black license plates, originally issued between 1963 and 1969.

California issued the black license plates from 1963 to 1969, and for those who restore cars of that era, finding an original can be time-consuming and expensive. Collectors have been known to dig through scrap yards or pay hundreds of dollars online for a set of matching original plates, hoping to meet the DMVs laundry list of regulations for old plates, including making sure the year of the plate matches the year of car.

The black plates will be stamped from the original molds at the states license plate factory at Folsom Prison. The only difference is the new ones will get sprayed with a clear, reflectorized coating so they can be seen at night.

Whats more, the reissued black plates wont be reserved for vintage car owners. Someone looking to give their new Toyota Prius or a Tesla Model S a postmodern vibe can order a set.

Good news, Taiwan!:

On June 17, Chinese government issued orders for civilian shipbuilders to ensure that five types of civilian ships, container, roll-on/roll-off, multipurpose, bulk carrier, and break-bulk cargo carriers, will be technically compliant for emergency mobilization during wartime.

Roll-on/roll-off (RO/RO) carriers are especially interesting given that while they normally transport cars and other automobiles, which drive onto and drive off of them at ports. As shown by U.S military practice during the Gulf Wars, RO/RO carriers can be easily mobilized to dock at a captured or friendly port to quickly drop off a battalion from its ramps. If Chinese amphibious or special forces capture an enemy port, a RO/RO carrier could be brought in to quickly disperse mechanized infantry to seize the surrounding city in a rapid campaign. RO/RO carriers would also allow for the speedy deployment of follow on logistic equipment, and anti-access systems like surface to air missiles.

These technical changes will likely include the ability to install military grade communications and defense systems when needed, as well as stronger damage control mechanisms such as additional firefighting equipment. Such militarized new ships would likely be used in support of sustained maritime, amphibious and regional power projection campaigns. Given China's status as one of the world's largest shipbuilder by displacement, including those five categories of transports, and a large merchant marine fleet, the PLAN will not come up short when mobilizing immediate SHUFT capacity.

Of course.

Mosby had ordered more drug policing on that very corner the previous week. This kid was a known drug dealer with a long rap sheet. He was carrying a weapon when arrested. The cops didn't injure him in the arrest, he wasn't treated badly at any point.

78 So I posted this late yesterday afternoon, but I want to hit the early-birds.

There were close to 75 separate individuals who kicked in to help me pay my bills after things went batshit at work. To all of them, and to everyone who helped keep my spirits up with witty banter, boob jokes and well-wishes - Thank you.

There is a conclusion to my story:

I have defeated the United States government.

The Commerce OIG offered the following settlement terms to avoid a protracted and public court battle:

- suspension letter removed from jacket
- all back pay delivered at appropriate (non-bonus) tax rate
- Letter of Reprimand issued in place of suspension
- LoR back-dated to 4/13/14 (date of incident in question)
- LoR removed from my jacket one year after the date of the letter
- 50 - 100% (still being negotiated) of legal fees paid

I asked my lawyer to accept their terms on my behalf while reserving the right to file further suits if warranted.
Office of Special Counsel informed me that this is the fastest settlement they've ever seen.

80 Morning, Glories.

Thanks again, Vic, for the wake-up blast!

Here's what I think about all that:
___

Flatworm invasion: Can we at least trust that it takes them longer to migrate than the killer bees?
___

White House okays ransoms: No surprise that Obama would make things more comfy & profitable for his buddies.

Also, so much simpler than sending in Marines!

___

Obama: "Is it the opposite of American Interests?"
Advisors: "Yes."
Obama: "We'll do that!"

___

...pope's key science advisor is an atheist who believes in GAIA

Not to quibble, but, is that atheism, or is belief in earth-spirits more properly called paganism?

One's beliefs have nothing to do with real science. Alas, this is "I♥Science!"

___

VaJayJay's entire family were hardcore communists. What do you think she is?

[Unprintable rant]

___

Obama [says] we get that the oceans could rise up to 4 feet in our children's lifetimes...

So, he's saying he failed at the one thing he claimed he was actually going to be able to do, stop their rise.

Oh, wait, that's not the only thing. He has successfully "transformed the nation."

[whimper, sulk]

A Governor Poppins would have said FYNQ to every race-baiting asshole who couldn't find South Carolina on a map, and then asked the legislature to see about creating a referendum question for the citizens of SC to decide whether they wanted to keep the flag. 140 What kills me about the CBF controversy is ,... just as all prog things... it's all emotion driven. Civics and history have been poorly taught for 40 years. Since the what, 90's with black history month, curriculums were tailored. I read a good book a few years back where the author ( Confederates in the Attic) traveled around the south looking into Civil War history.

He stopped in Mississippi and happened to meet a school group on a field trip to a court house or some such and talked with the teacher about his project. She said, even in Mississippi they only barely touched on the Civil War.. may a day or two worth.. they just had too much to cover. We're losing our history to those that ardently want to erase it and replace it. Almost like in some manifesto somewhere...

====================

Sorry, just noticed this question and comment. Its not irrational to give the accused the presumption of innocence, unless you hate the American way, you commie.

Just kidding. Lets review the actions of the cops and Mosby so far: Mosby successfully ordered her pre-arrest instructions to the cops suppressed (a whistleblower union rep presumably disclosed her letter); she attempted to have the ME report suppressed; after her initial press conferences, she then asked for and received a gag order to be applied to responses from the police attorneys; she has contested release of evidence to the cops attorneys; and she issued charges against the cops almost entirely because of her attempt to mollify the mob in Baltimore.

Unlike the Eric Garner case in NY, this case looks very bad based on the evidence released so far and Mosby looks like a pure opportunist.

So, and remember I am usually highly critical of the cops (who, to remind you, I think are often poorly led and trained, and, in my opinion, often resort far too quickly to violence), that's why I think the arrested cops look innocent. There simply isn't any evidence released so far that I've seen that says otherwise.

The one that was taken down off the SC statehouse in 1865 is still in Iowa. In the 90s they asked for it back; Branstad said they could borrow it, and it was returned in 2002.

http://is.gd/E48Pbm

Originally Iowa's captured battle flags, along with flags of Iowa regiments, were stored in the Capitol building (which is itself a monument to the Union) without any special preservation--the veterans who set this up in the 1880s-90s wanted the flags to disintegrate as this horrible war could be forgotten and we could move the fuck on.

But a hundred years later attitudes changed, and the flags got preserved.

You can't tell me the Charleston shooter was any more or less evil than the Newtown shooter. You can't convince me that shooting 9 adults is more or less evil than shooting 30 children. (If anything, it's less. Much less.)

Murder is murder. Crazy is crazy.

These distinctions we try to draw (have drawn for us) in order to delineate one crime from another when it's actually the same fucking crime only serve to deepen and exacerbate the increasingly-large chasms between groups of Americans.

The big difference is that the perception was that Adam Lanza was a product of a progressive system (coddled, medicated, privileged northeast upbringing). With this latest scumbag, they have the ability to push the meme that Roof is "one of them". Add in the cave on the flag and you have a wedge scenario. They will pick off more and more putative 2A advocates with the threat of "we will paint you with this racist brush if you don't go along. Why, opposing common sense gun control measures is tantamount to wrapping yourselves in the battle flag and pissing on the graves of the victims."

And to set the record straight, Bloomberg's millions did help Colorado's legislature crank the gun control ratchet another few notches, including the hi-capacity magazine ban.

224 He blamed pre-Obama American foreign policy for creating ISIS. Along with endorsing McConnell there were a number of other unforced gaffes over the last year or so that have definitely crossed him off my list.

Cruz flip-flopped on Obamatrade and wants to import more cheap foreign workers.
Walker supports Obamatrade and has supported Amnesty in the past.
Perry used to be a Democrat, supported in-state tuition for illegals, and supported the establishment RINO Dewhurst over Cruz.
Rubio is Jeb! with a combover.

They're all flawed, I accept that. I don't like all of Rand Paul's positions, but I sort of accept that one can find a reason to reject any of these guys.

236 we're punching air. They have the news outlets.

We can only speak out and be heard on smaller venues.

They get to choose the stories they get to choose what's heard.

How long does it take for people to finally understand that the news media doesn't play fair?

The only way to penetrate the barrier is with something so loud and so blatant that they can't ignore it. And even then they manage in many cases.

when's the last time you saw full coverage of the anti abortion march done yearly in DC? If anything they show a few people a few signs and that's it. They never mention the thousands that show up they never show a picture of it and along with what meagre coverage they show they will twist and lie about what it means and who's marching and why.

Until everyone wakes up and finally understands that the media must be reckoned with and action taken, all the logical thinking and righteous rhetoric will go for naught because they control the majority of air time.

Since that seemed unduly harsh, I read the article. What did the "inspectors" really find?

"They found every label was inaccurate, with many overcharging consumers."

Note the careful weaseling. "Every label was inaccurate." The weight of vegetable products could vary with watering, evaporation, even growth (as in the case of still-growing sprouts). And a scale, yes, may become a little off between calibrations. Lots of possibilities for relatively insignificant error.

That every label, when the inspector weighed them, is not the same as when they were packaged is just not surprising. It's an appoximation. For a control, do the same thing at all other grocers. Oh, wait, they did that and found the same thing 77% of the time.

The telling part would seem to be "many overcharging." Not most products. Many. So, the majority were undercharging? By how much overcharged is not said, either.

268 Whole Foods is interesting to me, because I think it's a case of a libertarian who figured out how to make a fortune off of well-heeled, health obsessed lefties. The CEO published an anti-Obamacare oped in the WSJ right before it passed and the leftists went nuts. "Traitor! I'll never shop there ever again!!"

Well, that boycott lasted like all of 4 days. The CEO didn't apologize - the SJW just decided that principles are good and all but nothing is more important than organic heirloom tomatoes.

That's a lesson for other weak-kneed corporations - you can stand up to these assholes and survive, you don't have to cave and apologize because their attention span isn't that long.

313 Photography (tasweer) means the taking of pictures of living, animate moving beings, like people, animals, birds, etc. The ruling is that it is forbidden on the basis of a number of reports, such as the following:

'Abdullaah ibn Mas'ood (may Allaah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "Those who will be most severely punished by Allaah on the Day of Resurrection will be the image-makers." (Reported by al-Bukhaari, see al-Fath, 10/382).

Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "Allaah, may He be exalted, says: 'Who does more wrong than the one who tries to create something like My creation? Let him create a grain of wheat or a kernel of corn.'" (Reported by al-Bukhaari, see Fath al-Baari, 10/385).

'Ali (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: "Shall I not send you on the same mission as the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) sent me? Do not leave any built-up tomb without levelling it, and do not leave any picture in any house without erasing it." (Reported by Muslim and al-Nisaa'i; this is the version narrated by al-Nisaa'i).

Ibn 'Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him and his father) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "Every image-maker will be in the Fire, and for every image that he made a soul will be created for him, which will be punished in the Fire." Ibn 'Abbaas said: "If you must do that, make pictures of trees and other inanimate objects." (Reported by Muslim, 3/1871)

These ahaadeeth indicate that pictures of animate beings are haraam, whether they are humans or other creatures, whether they are three-dimensional or two-dimensional, whether they are printed, drawn, etched, engraved, carved, cast in moulds, etc. These ahaadeeth include all of these types of pictures.

The Muslim should submit to the teachings of Islam and not argue with them by saying, "But I am not worshipping them or prostrating to them!" If we think about just one aspect of the evil caused by the prevalence of photographs and pictures in our times, we will understand something of the wisdom behind this prohibition: that aspect is the great corruption caused by the provoking of physical desires and subsequent spread of immorality caused by these pictures.

The Muslim should not keep any pictures of animate beings in his house, because they will prevent the angels from entering. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "The angels do not enter a house in which there is a dog or pictures." (Reported by al-Bukhaari, see al-Fath, 10/380).

Murder is murder. Crazy is crazy.
Posted by: Washington Nearsider, Keeper of the Guards at June 24, 2015 08:00 AM (fwARV)

Indeed. The only time a 'hate crime' designation makes sense would be something like a burning cross, which is more properly on the level of a terroristic threatening than a similar property crime (like if someone burned a lawn chair and threw it in your yard).

A hate crime designation on murder only means we are saying these victims matter more than those victims, because of some quirk of reasoning on the part of the killer. That is wrong. All victims lives matter equally.

358 VDH is correct again-

http://www.nationalreview.com/article/420142/america-one-nation-indivisible

The idea that even saying 'America is a melting pot" is now verboten by the leftards-

points to the complete balkanization of the US.

The idea that the American Dream is something foreign to-

as an example, Black people.

That somehow the common Middle Class American idea of -

bettering yourself, getting a good education or marketable skill, obeying the law, raising a family and providing for your children to do better than you did-

is somehow antithetical to being Black is complete insanity.

but, that seems to be the standard now.

That instead of the common interests of good schools, safe streets, clean gov't, maximum freedom, and equality as fellow Americans and fellow citizens in the same damn city-

are far less relevant than the simple identifier of skin color can lead no where good and never has throughout the entire course of human history.

Anywhere you go in the world, the Middle Class has to do those very things, to be Middle Class.

The new idiocy from the Progtards is to break everyone into smaller and smaller competing groups- Blacks, Latinos, Wymyns, Asians- none of whom have any power without gov't patronage.

That people are selling their future, that of their children, grandchildren for the cookie crumb of an indirect, impersonal pat on the head from some celebrity of the moment is just plain nuts.

but hey, here we are.
