Good Morning Morons. Today is Friday, June 12, 2015. On this day in 1775 British general Thomas Gage declared martial law in Massachusetts. He offered a pardon to all colonists who would lay down their arms with two exceptions, Samuel Adams and John Hancock, if captured, were to be hanged.

"Finally, it must be observed that this is not a 'free trade' deal," Sessions wrote.
It is, as Daniel DiMicco explained, a 'unilateral trade disarmament' and 'the enablement of foreign mercantilism,' whereby we open our markets to new foreign imports and they keep their non-tariff barriers that close their markets to ours. President Obama refuses to answer questions about the impact on unemployment, wage stagnation, and trade deficits. He refuses because the answer is all three will get worse. For instance, a study published in the Wall Street Journal showed that---due to barriers to U.S. auto exports---the deal would increase foreign transportation imports over our exports by nearly four-fold. Sessions is really vocal about this. No one is listening. Posted by: artisanal 'ette at June 12, 2015 07:01 AM (qCMvj) 50

I will vote for the first candidate, Republican or
Democrat, who swears in public that they will strike every single regulation issued under Obama authority since 2008. http://bit.ly/1FcyoIX Posted by: Vic We Have No Party at June 12, 2015 06:54 AM (GpgJl) ********************* I've suggested before that the day after his nomination is announced, the Republican candidate should form a committee to review every executive order and department policy that has been issued since 2009 and target at least 50% for elimination or replacement. That can be done with a "pen and a phone," and the new President should do it the day after the inauguration. Step 2 will require notice and comment period, so it will take probably most of the year 2017 to get most of it accomplished (and some will be blocked by litigation), but the same committee should then be appointed as a Presidential commission that would turn to repealing and replacing, reviewing every regulation that has been passed by every department and agency since 2009, with a goal of elimiating 40% of the pages in the CFR. Simultaneously, thee should be a Romney Commission that targets a 20% headcount reduction across all nondefense functions. Because that will require use of the appropriation process, it is less likely that it will get done at that level, but the commission should put a well-planned proposal to Congress. It is easier under civil service rules in this regard to eliminate entire agencies or directorates, or consolidate them, than it is to eliminate specific positions, so the weapon of choice should be reorganization. One thing the President can do in that regard is a targeted hiring freeze that makes it extremely difficult to replace normal attrition. We will never do away with the behemoth, but we can reasonably cut it back in the first term. The economy will respond appropriately. The second term should focus on structural reforms and devolve many federal functions to the states -- and if states choose not to keep them alive, then so be it. The one opens the door and almost fires immediately. The kid is dead because his parent and him were stupid. But, in a non-trial sense, the cops do deserve some punishment for handling the situation poorly. Morning, 'rons and 'ronettes. Thanks for the news, Vic.
Since Sir Christopher Lee was featured in the ONT, here's a story about him: It seems that, during filming for one of the LOTR movies (I've never seen them, so I don't know which one), director Peter Jackson instructed an extra on how to die after being killed with a sword thrust to the back; the actor was to shudder, gasp a bit and then collapse. Lee, watching this, said nothing, but during a break, stepped over to Jackson. "When someone is stabbed in the back, their lungs collapse," he said quietly. "They die like this." Lee stood in front of Jackson, motionless; then, his eyes went wide and he shivered almost imperceptibly before slipping to the ground. After a moment, he got up. Former Special Forces man locked eyes with Movie Director. "That's what happens," he said drily. And now, the weekly Ziegfeld Girl, Catherine Moylan: http://goo.gl/ZS7D3Z Born in 1904, she performed in the Follies of 1927 and in the musical Whoopee during 1928 - 1929. In 1926, she was a contestant in the first International Pageant of Pulchritude, held in Galveston, Texas. As "Miss Dallas," Moylan won first prize, beating out fellow Miss Dallas Joan Blondell. Seeing the success Blondell had in movies, Moylan, too, headed for Tinseltown, but never achieved her fellow Texan's prominence, usually ending up as glorified eye candy. Her biggest role was as snooty society gal Martha in MGMs 1930 golf comedy Love in the Rough. She later returned to Texas, got married, and lived until 1964. Here she is in an MGM glamour shot: https://goo.gl/4LTl3m But I prefer her pictures with photog Alfred Cheney Johnston, for whom, it was quoted, she "was not shy about dressing up or doing without dresses altogether": http://goo.gl/TsY6eD Hope you all have a wonderful weekend. Posted by: HAL 9000 at June 12, 2015 07:07 AM It's the "broken clock" paradox in the case of the unions and various Democrats. Term limits and offices IN THEIR home state would
help them understand the pulse of the nation, real Americans, working Americans, taxpayers and their constituents. Posted by: artisanal 'ette at June 12, 2015 07:51 AM (qCMvj) ************** When we have the Article V convention, one of the amendments we should consider would be one to move Congress out of Washington. Each of the states, in alphabetical order, would host Congress while it is in session for a year, with an appropriation to defray the costs. It would be like a Super Bowl in economic impact. Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut . . . . You get the idea. It might cost a little more, but it would force Congress, especially those from east of the Hudson River, to see the actual country for which they're writing legislation. And the host states would be able to decide where in the state they wanted to put the House and the Senate. That could be a lot of fun. Yes, this. Also, reduce the # of days Congress is in session and make their housing for only them, no family; they have to maintain residence in the ir home state. The way it is now they become residents of DC for all intents and purposes - their spouses get a DC area job, their kids go to a DC area school, they get totally rooted in their new DC life. And what happens when they leave Congress? Yep, DC area job - they never go "home."Does anyone really think old-timers like McCain give a flying f#@% about the state he supposedly represents? Just read that story in the Daily Mail about the white woman NAACP official who has been pretending for years to be black. She frizzed out her thin blond hair (and probably also put in extensions, from the look of it), and used bronzer to make herself appear blacker. According to her undeniably reliable self reports (and it's not as if she's delusional, right?) this poor black woman has been the victim of numerous hate crimes, including having nooses left for her and hate mail placed in her locked mailbox (for which she had the key). It's just so tragic what a poor (delusional white woman masquerading as a) black woman has to endure in this raaaaaacist society!

"If this president were to give them a bad deal, they should hold him accountable and vote it down," Walker added. "They have every right to do that under the proposal." the piece goes on to say, Walker did not/can not read the bill because he's not a member of Congress If Walker supports passing a trade bill that no one can review before voting, then there is no hope for him and he should not get within a quarter mile of the White House. --scratches another GOPe fool off the list Posted by: Chris Krispy's Fat Rolls at June 12, 2015 08:50 AM (hKyl0) 294

How does HUD have the authority? Posted by: Seems Legit at June 12, 2015 08:58 AM (A98Xu) All they have to do is is buy a house and sell it to some "deserving poor minority". Local urban areas have been doing that for decades. They claimed it was to get rid of the ghetto places like "Fiddler's Green" but experience has now shown that all it does it ruin the suburban area and cause the working people there to move somewhere else. So from the "F*ck Cancer" files...
Prayers requested from the Praying Horde. A cow-orker (Alex is his name) has cancer. He starts Chemo next week, I think, at MD Anderson. He's a tough old coot, but prayers for his comfort and recovery - and for his family (wife, kids, and grandkids) would surely be appreciated. How does HUD have the authority?
HUD money. Communities who get HUD money get HUD regulated housing. Never take Federal Money. If you can't manage your community without federal money, you are doing it wrong. Posted by: Zeland Knorski at June 12, 2015 09:03 AM (TUmPT) 351

RE: "dumping" populations
Read up on "Greenspoint" (gunspoint) area of Houston - XOM and a few others began to develop the area and magically pull it out of the crapper when the er, refugees (yeah, that's it) from Katrina were dumped there. You do not want to visit Greenspoint Mall. Posted by: anon a mouse at June 12, 2015 09:04 AM (C9pBZ) 354
340 Place not far from me was an abandoned military
base. Land speculators out in California bought up all the base housing and rent it out to section 8 families. Bought the buildings cheap and the Feds pay the rent. Place is a shit hole now. Nobody works out there. I hope the Russians still have it targeted with ICBMs. Posted by: Zeland Knorski at June 12, 2015 09:00 AM (TUmPT) BION they were talking about doing something similar with the old Myrtle Beach AFB housing. But wiser heads stepped in. We are talking prime beach real-estate here and the developers smelled the millions. Posted by: Vic We Have Nobody to vote for at June 12, 2015 09:04 AM (GpgJl) 355

Never take Federal Money. If you can't manage your community without federal money, you are doing it wrong.
The problem for State and Local leadership is that it's a catch 22. If they take the money, then they're beholden to the Feds. If they *don't* take the money, their constituents bitch about the fact that other people are getting to use their tax dollars, so why can't they? And most people are too short sighted to accept the answer, "Because we don't want the strings that are attached to that money." 325 get rid of my chipmunk infestation in the garden and backyard
Posted by: artisanal 'ette at June 12, 2015 07:09 AM (qCMvj) A good cat helps with that, but the most fun way is a six-pack, hammock, and a solid pellet gun. Posted by: 1bulwetweft at June 12, 2015 08:57 AM (nqiq9) Rat terrier or feist. Our little terrier mix had the rodent population on our recently bought land on the run within a month. The best way to get rid of chipmunks is to clean up the leaf litter/crap where they live. They don't like exposed tunnel entrances. BB guns are more fun but you're emptying the ocean with a teaspoon.
Around here it's winter moth caterpillars. You can literally hear the poop falling on leaves like rain. This is why I don't park under maple trees this time of year. The same with gypsy moths, only they prefer oak trees. But they'll eat anything, especially after the oaks are pretty much denuded. Posted by: Ed Anger at June 12, 2015 09:07 AM (RcpcZ) 361

Yeah, I prefer a dog over a cat for rodent population control. Not because they're any better (they often aren't) but because the dogs I've had who killed rodents didn't feel like they had to gift me with the carcass. The cats I've had *did.* Posted by: AllenG (DedicatedTenther) - Not dead yet at June 12, 2015 09:07 AM (kff5f) Posted by: anon a mouse at June 12, 2015 09:09 AM (C9pBZ) 366

My son & D.i.L have a terrier-corgi mix and a blue healer. The mix kills the critters, and the healer carries the carcass into the house. Posted by: Cicero Skip at June 12, 2015 09:14 AM (FIrEF) 367

Posted by: Vic We Have No Party at June 12, 2015 08:43 AM (GpgJl) Understood. I would paraphrase Mr Hancock in response: "The British ministry can read my name without spectacles; let them double their reward." I know you (and other 'rons/'ettes) feel the same way; it gets harder everyday to see what our nation has become, knowing what it was and what it could / should be. It really is eye-opening to read the list of redresses on the DoI and see how many of them apply to our CURRENT situation. Our founders didn't put up with that shit and neither should we.
