The parent of the kid was stupid for letting him run around the park with it. That being said, the cops came flying up in their car with little chance for the kid to obey their command. The whole thing is awash of people acting stupidly. There needs to be a reasonable standard for how long a cop has to wait for his command to be obeyed especially when you surprise someone.

The kid had removed the orange tip on the barrel that made it obvious it was a toy. The cops had got a call saying a "man" was "brandishing" a weapon in the park. And that statement about "immediate firing" is suspect because they ordered the kid to drop the gun three times and he refused.


And besides that, this "judge" order came after the DA refused to refer it for an indictment. The SJW crowd in Cleveland, desiring blood, went "judge shopping" for this black judge to bypass the grand jury.

I've suggested before that the day after his nomination is announced, the Republican candidate should form a committee to review every executive order and department policy that has been issued since 2009 and target at least 50% for elimination or replacement. That can be done with a "pen and a phone," and the new President should do it the day after the inauguration. Step 2 will require notice and comment period, so it will take probably most of the year 2017 to get most of it accomplished (and some will be blocked by litigation), but the same committee should then be appointed as a Presidential commission that would turn to repealing and replacing, reviewing every regulation that has been passed by every department and agency since 2009, with a goal of elimiating 40% of the pages in the CFR. Simultaneously, thee should be a Romney Commission that targets a 20% headcount reduction across all nondefense functions. Because that will require use of the appropriation process, it is less likely that it will get done at that level, but the commission should put a well-planned proposal to Congress. It is easier under civil service rules in this regard to eliminate entire agencies or directorates, or consolidate them, than it is to eliminate specific positions, so the weapon of choice should be reorganization. One thing the President can do in that regard is a targeted hiring freeze that makes it extremely difficult to replace normal attrition. We will never do away with the behemoth, but we can reasonably cut it back in the first term. The economy will respond appropriately. The second term should focus on structural reforms and devolve many federal functions to the states -- and if states choose not to keep them alive, then so be it.

Vic, I'm not saying the cops should be on trial for this. If you watch the video though the only way the cops said to raise his hands three times before shooting are if they were speed talkers. The one opens the door and almost fires immediately.

The kid is dead because his parent and him were stupid. But, in a non-trial sense, the cops do deserve some punishment for handling the situation poorly.

BTW, what police department sends two cops to a park with for a guy who has a gun when they'll send a SWAT team to serve a warrant?

Correct, and the same with departmental and agency policies. That's why you start reviewing them the day after the nomination and issue the order the day after the inauguration. You aren't going to be able to eliminate all of them, nor would you want to because some of them are mundane governmental working stuff, but they all need to be under the microscope.

When we have the Article V convention, one of the amendments we should consider would be one to move Congress out of Washington. Each of the states, in alphabetical order, would host Congress while it is in session for a year, with an appropriation to defray the costs. It would be like a Super Bowl in economic impact. Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut . . . . You get the idea. It might cost a little more, but it would force Congress, especially those from east of the Hudson River, to see the actual country for which they're writing legislation.

And the host states would be able to decide where in the state they wanted to put the House and the Senate. That could be a lot of fun.

Their activities are enough of a circus now, and that has to stop. Making their "work" more like, say, regular National Guard duty -- dusty, uncomfortable, necessary -- would discourage the pork-munchers and power-trippers, and not bother those who really do see elective office as a necessary service.

Yes, this. Also, reduce the # of days Congress is in session and make their housing for only them, no family; they have to maintain residence in the ir home state.

Yep. Hubby used a bbgun to scare off some neighborhood cats who were getting comfy in our back yard. We have bunnies who hang out there and no cats were going to be getting them!

Place not far from me was an abandoned military base. Land speculators out in California bought up all the base housing and rent it out to section 8 families. Bought the buildings cheap and the Feds pay the rent. Place is a shit hole now. Nobody works out there. I hope the Russians still have it targeted with ICBMs.

342 I had to shoot a largish rat with a pellet gun a while ago. Not pleasant. Pellet hit him about center mass, he dropped instantly, thought he was dead. When I picked him up with a flat shovel, his front end tried to drag his back end away. Gruesome, had to cleave him in two with the blade so he didn't suffer.

All they have to do is is buy a house and sell it to some "deserving poor minority". Local urban areas have been doing that for decades. They claimed it was to get rid of the ghetto places like "Fiddler's Green" but experience has now shown that all it does it ruin the suburban area and cause the working people there to move somewhere else.

Prayers requested from the Praying Horde. A cow-orker (Alex is his name) has cancer. He starts Chemo next week, I think, at MD Anderson.

He's a tough old coot, but prayers for his comfort and recovery - and for his family (wife, kids, and grandkids) would surely be appreciated.

The problem for State and Local leadership is that it's a catch 22. If they take the money, then they're beholden to the Feds. If they *don't* take the money, their constituents bitch about the fact that other people are getting to use their tax dollars, so why can't they?

And most people are too short sighted to accept the answer, "Because we don't want the strings that are attached to that money."

360 The best way to get rid of chipmunks is to clean up the leaf litter/crap where they live. They don't like exposed tunnel entrances. BB guns are more fun but you're emptying the ocean with a teaspoon.

Around here it's winter moth caterpillars. You can literally hear the poop falling on leaves like rain. This is why I don't park under maple trees this time of year.

The same with gypsy moths, only they prefer oak trees. But they'll eat anything, especially after the oaks are pretty much denuded.
