Good Morning Morons. Today is Wednesday, June 10, 2015. On this day in 1963 the Equal Pay Act of 1963 aimed at abolishing wage disparity based on sex was signed into law by John F. Kennedy as part of his New Frontier Program. And we passed another one a few years ago and the Democrats are pushing to pass yet another one now as part of their BS war on women strategy. When is enough enough? This supposed wage gap has been debunked many times.

Blacks have lost their luster on the Choom:
African American voters who were inspired partly by the emotional draw of his biography, high hopes have turned to frustration: Even a black president was unable to heal places still gripped by violence, drugs and joblessness. I guess they found out he really was not going to put gas in their car and pay their rent. My advice to people who want to end violence, drugs, and joblessness; clean up your neighborhood and get a job. Politicians can not do this for you and if they tried the assholes in your neighborhoods would raise hell about it. http://wapo.st/1IusEPo Posted by: Vic We Have No Party at June 10, 2015 06:51 AM (GpgJl) 17

The Vietnamese math puzzle has 21 solutions: Posted by: Daryl Herbert at June 10, 2015 12:19 AM (grOY9) Given that one of the parts of the equation is (a number * another number / third number), shouldn't there always be an even number of solutions given that those first two are always interchangeable values? I brute-forced it with a horribly unoptimized and quick C# program, and came up with 20 possible solutions that fit the equation A + ((13 * B) / C) + D + (12 * E) - F - 11 + ((G * H) / I) - 10 = 66. McKinney Texas is a return to the days of 'block busting' where real estate developers secretly move a black family into a neighborhood and all the whites flee.
This new modern technique involves the old fascist tactics of brown shirts breaking windows and vandalizing shops forcing the shop owners to flee the country. It's being done for political reasons just as it was back in the '30's. Hacking web sites is an extension of this same tactic. Drive the targeted demographic off the web, out of the neighborhood, out of the country, out of political power. The attack on reason.com, the stalker(s) here at ace all being funded by government grants for community organizing. Michelle Malkin has a piece on townhall about 'Teachers for America' that has been taken over by extreme leftists political activists a la ACORN. It's all a return to leftist revolutionaries and too many innocent people don't know what to do about it. Posted by: hobart barnstock at June 10, 2015 07:11 AM (GkTW3) 68

Moral relativism, topsy turvy time.
Posted by: J.J. Sefton at June 10, 2015 07:19 AM (St6BJ) Relativism has been our greatest enemy, and it's really the underpinning of Leftist thought. In its simplest, most essential form, it's the statement "there is no truth", which is self-refuting. They believe that every idea, every cause, every culture, and soforth is equal. Input and outcome are unmoored from each other, and life is just a game of dice. Morality has no inherent meaning or value to them, our morality isn't any more preferable to them than ISIS's bloodthirsty savagery. So why do they always get it wrong, why do they hate us? Because we succeed. The rise of Western civilization to them is equivalent to someone winning at dice night every night for centuries. They think we're cheating. And if we're cheating, everyone else, no matter how backwards their ideology or cause, is a victim. We can't defeat the Leftists until we convince people that there are absolutes again. Good and evil, truth and lies, and so on. Posted by: Cato the Rebel Without a Party at June 10, 2015 07:25 AM (J+mig) Posted by: Ricardo Kill at June 10, 2015 07:27 AM (DDeKY) 103

In a previous life (don't ask what I was doing then -- I'll cry), GM had reason to loan me an Aztek shortly before its official public unveiling. At one point I had to run through a gas station. Obama says he doesn't have a strategy for dealing with ISIS. He says the Pentagon hasn't given him one. The Pentagon says they have given him 'options'.
Options are not strategy. Options are tactics. It's the president who is expected to do the strategic thinking. Obama does have a strategy; it is to do nothing, vote present, and blame failure on someone else. So far Obama's strategy is working. . . for Obama with half the country not interested, uncaring, and not paying attention. So the Pentagon recommends sending 400 more bullet catchers, potential targets, potential hostages to Iraq. Posted by: hobart barnstock at June 10, 2015 07:39 AM (GkTW3) 143

I've been thinking a lot about the Unified Field Theory of Madness someone posted yesterday. It's a very nice philosophical analysis and takedown of Leftist thought:
http://tinyurl.com/ody8czg A summary would do this piece an injustice, but suffice it to say one of the cornerstones is the Leftist inability to connect cause and effect in any rational way. This is because the Leftist school has declared huge swaths of reason as bigoted or otherwise invalid, so all he is left with is a preening sense of intellectual superiority to cover up the failure of his theories. Seriously, read it. I bring it up because I see Obama sending more troops to Iraq to "train" their army. The same army that dropped its arms and ran at the first sight of ISIS. In other words, the exact thing that didn't work at all. Precisely what the Unified Field Theory of Madness said happens with Leftists. Amazing to me. It took me a while to solve the math problem in the ONT but I finally got it.
The trick is to find a 12 cm rod that's 4 cm in circumference and wrap a string around it. It was late and the hardware store was closed, so I made my own out of a baseball bat. I know, it tapers slightly, but towards the end it's about 4 cm thick and it practically a perfect cylinder. Then I reread the problem and saw that it's 4 cm in circumference, not diameter. I put the piece of bat on the lathe and trimmed it down. This took out all of the tapering, too. Lacking a string, I used a rubber band, which I wrapped around the rod and measured. I measured a second time and got a different answer. Duh! It's elastic. It stretches. So I put the rubber band in the freezer, waited a few hours, and tried it again. It was kind of stiff, but I sort of rolled it over the surface of the bat. When it broke, I tried it again with a tape measure. I came up with 12.65 cm - the hundreths, of course, being an approximation. Anyone else? Posted by: FireHorse at June 10, 2015 08:04 AM (PUS8s) 220

I had understood that Art. 5 conventions have three checks on their power: the issues to be addressed can be stipulated in advance by the state legislature resolution authorizing the convention, the convention itself would be dominated by Red states by number, and any amendments resulting from the convention must be adopted by individual votes of the state legislatures.
With those checks available I'm less afraid of an Art 5 convention than I am watching the current mess going forward. Posted by: MTF at June 10, 2015 08:04 AM (VPncT) 224

About three weeks before Freddie Gray was chased from a West Baltimore corner by three Baltimore police officers -- the start of a fatal encounter -- the office of prosecutor Marilyn Mosby asked police to target the intersection with "enhanced" drug enforcement efforts, court documents show.
"State's Attorney Mosby asked me to look into community concerns regarding drug dealing in the area of North Ave and Mount St," Joshua Rosenblatt, division chief of Mosby's Crime Strategies Unit, wrote in a March 17 email to a Western District police commander. May your day be extra-humpy.
Are we talking in a sexual way? Because then, in the words of John Francois Kerry (who, by the way, served in Vietnam), "would that it were." And morning, 'rons and 'ronettes, thanks for the news, Vic. I wanted to expand on this story a bit with some thoughts about power and ambition, but I'm very busy at the moment, so I'll drop it here and let you ponder it: Marilyn Monroe readily admitted that she had, in her bid for stardom, "spent a lot of time on my knees," rationalizing that sexual favors were the coin of the realm in Hollywood, and that, if she weren't willing, there were plenty of other girls who were. After some time, she did manage to wangle a letter of introduction to various Twentieth Century-Fox executives, and made the rounds of their offices, hoping for a part or a contract. But she noted that, in each case, after reading the letter, each exec had the same reaction: he would come around to the front of his desk, fly unbuttoned. It was only later, Monroe recalled, that she learned the letter consisted of one sentence: "This girl loves to give head." Hope you all have a wonderful day. See you later, perhaps. I'll give Levin two out of three on this, though I still maintain that simply enforcing existing laws -- and never mind Choom Boy's decrees, which violate existing laws in most instances -- would do more than his "liberty" amendments. I think the fuss over the 17th is mainly a battle of theories between purists and don't-give-a-shitters. Having easily corrupted (see CA, MA, and a boatload of others) state legislatures pick Senators is not better, IMO, than letting the rubes do it. In fact, the more direct involvement the public has with elected officials' fates, the better. I would go for a streamlining of the removal-from-office process. Exempting anyone from being accountable for their acts is, in theory, sensible. Or it was in the 1700s, anyway. Posted by: MrScribbler at June 10, 2015 08:33 AM (P8YHq) 322

Now that I fixed one of the math problems in the ONT (with some help - thanks, GnuBreed) I'll proceed to fix the problem with our government. Here goes:
Forget about our "betters" and go after our peers who think they're our betters. Presidents, senators, judges, etc., have designed a system that protects the whole class of designers. So leave them alone (for now). Go after the folks - the national park rangers, the Capitol Park Police, the IRS bureaucrats - who act criminally in the mistaken belief that they can wield power because they work for the government. Wait until our side is in charge, then prosecute the hell out of them. If a Border Control officer followed orders to not control the border, then charge with with dereliction of duty. If a DOJ lawyer follows orders to not pursue Black Panthers keeping people from voting, pin a civil rights charge on that lawyer. Et cetera. When the Ds are in control, the higher-ups with have destructive agenda items. The solution is to make the 2+ million civil servants so afraid to act unlawfully that they'll be deterred from it. There's no fixing an Eric Holder, but there's hope when it comes to his underlings. Let those guys know that they may have a free hand today but the day of reckoning will come tomorrow. IMHO, since the direct election of senators, the Senate has come to act like a Parliament. The senators no longer represent states, they represent parties. Parties in turn represent vested interest groups.

The simple way for the first math problem is to picture the tube completely unrolled: a 12cm cylinder with a 4cm circumference turns into a 12cm by 4cm rectangle. The string makes exactly four turns around that circumference, so multiply it into a 12cm by 16cm rectangle. The string then travels from one corner to the opposite corner, leading to a right triangle, Pythagoras and sqrt(12*12 + 16*16) = 20.

Imagine rolling the tube on a surface that is sticky only to the string. Roll the tube exactly 4 revolutions. The tube will travel 16cm. The tube is 12cm long.
The string has now become the hypotenuse of a triangle with legs of 16 and 12. The theorem of Pythagoras gives the length of the hypotenuse (string) as square root of (16^2 + 12^2) = 20. The original exam probably had more than one question and takers of the exam probably had less than 12 hours to finish, but that's just a guess. Amazing to me.
Posted by: VA GOP Sucks at June 10, 2015 08:03 AM (eytER) It is an interesting piece - thank you. I've been doing my own thinking about the bizarre amalgamation of stupidity and evil that is the left. My Unified theory of leftism is that it is the concretion of the most effective resistances to growing up. Similar to the saving of an innocent life and the bringing of new life into the world, the maturation of a human soul is of great importance. There seem to be forces at work to prevent that from happening. I like the use of the word "resistance" from the book "the War of Art" discussed a couple of times on the book thread here. "Resistance" is a compass that always points to true north, the author says. What you have resistance to in your life is very often the very most compelling and important thing you could be doing. The left is resistance to growing in morality and maturity. Instead of being humbled by your own smallness in a big universe, the left says you are a special snowflake who cannot be allowed to feel bad about yourself. Instead of facing your own sins and short comings, the left focuses you on hypothetical enemies to hate and whose sins are decried from morning to night: the bigot, the 1%, conservatives, Christians etc. Instead of dealing with the great philosophical problems of pain, innocence, loss, uncertainty and danger, you look to a big daddy government who will, if only given enough or your power and wealth, protect you from every discomfort and danger. Instead of accepting the daunting responsibility for your own freedom, the left will order your life for you, preventing you from making mistakes like failing to save for a rainy day.
