Saturday Evening Open Thread - War on Women [Weirddave]

So I keep hearing from Progs that there's a war on women happening. I decided to do a little research, and darned if I didn't find one!

What do you know, those idiots were actually right about something. I stand amazed.

I immediately confronted Miss Norton and asked her why it was spelled differently in the library book than it was on the "Animal Name" chart that had hung in our Second grade classroom. I was not totally satisfied with her answer, and Sixth grade teacher Mr. Powers talked to me after lunch to explain how both could be correct.

224 Yeah, SMFH,

Same with my mom but for different reasons. Her dad died at a young age. Her oldest stupid ass brother kinda took over as man of the house. They went from having money and land to being broke and in debt. She had to take care of her mom so she delayed college and got married late to my dad who was the equivalent of white trash, a family of alcoholics and losers. She hated my dad and spent her entire marriage letting him know that and emasculating him.

I sorta sympathize with her at the same time I don't. it's not really a problem for me anymore. We are not speaking terms. I don't owe that piece of shit jack.

I do believe that forgiveness is useful as it helps you drop the bitterness and anger and live your life. Nobody deserves it. And that doesn't mean you have to forget the wrongs that were done or accept someone back in your life, especially if they haven't changed. I don't mean this as personal advice or anything, just my personal philosophy which I think I picked up from my mom talking about forgiving her father as a kid.

That aside, L,Elle, that sounds awful.

260 >>> I do believe that forgiveness is useful as it helps you drop the bitterness and anger and live your life.

I totally agree with you, Lea. That's why I can't forgive her bc she's still an insufferable asshole. Still shit stirring in my life. That's why I don't talk to her anymore.

I have successfully stopped being bitter and angry at her bc it takes too much energy to stay that way.

266 My dad's father was killed in 1931 by a drunken neighbor with a baseball bat. My grandma told him to go get her some cigarettes, and on his way he was to supposed to quiet the drunken party going on a couple doors down.

My dad had a college scholarship he had to give up because he had to go to work and help support his mom and 2 sisters (1931 was a bad time to go looking for a job.

Nothing happened to the drunk. My grandfather's sister was married to a infuential politition, and the whole thing was hushed. Not much comfort for my Dad's family.

But, he met my mom at the funeral, had 2 kids of his own, went to war at 30, came back and had 5 more kids including me. My mother was a devout Catholic, and she felt that God was punished her for using birth control by taking her husband away for so long. Whatever, I'm still around to talk about it. Mom and Dad were married 67 years, lived into their late 80's, and had 31 grandkids. Maybe terrible things happen for a reason sometimes.

I like that concept. I think there is a reason the bible talks avot forgiveness and it kind of sounds weird to say that you forgive someone else of wrongs for selfish reasons.. A gift makes more sense. It's also a better way to explain the concept without sounding like you are trying to judge someone for not forgiving...which is sort of the opposite of the point.

But if you've been able to let go of anger I think that is great.

328 I would love a 7.62 x 25 rifle. I may have to get something in 300 blackout instead, but I still dream I find that Destroyer carbine and change the barrel out.

331 When I heard that American Pharoah acts more like a pet than a race horse, I immediately thought of my horse who was a pet to our family, but a show horse king in the ring.

333 I've been out of the loop all day in a car, just heard about the lady at Fenway who was struck in the head by a broken bat, bled profusely as fans stripped their shirts off to staunch the bleeding while Tonya Carpenter's "screams of pain and terror echoed in the stadium" before emergency personnel could get to her. WTFF?

Thanks for reminding me.

And to the British douchebag, who for our friend's b-day celebration tonight, thought it would be AWESOME to set off fireworks that sound like in-coming mortar rounds, THANKS A PANTLOAD. Our son was doubled up and a friend was hugging him. Our son laughed it off and said, "Thanks for the PTSD, Joe."

Douchebag extraordinaire.

Seems like a nice setup, and even with the Timney, should still be under 1k?

I know LEO like the 700, but I don't know if that's because of some pricing edge they get, or what.
I call that a someday gun because (forget that I missed on that smoking deal) I don't need it now, but my club is planning a much longer range, maybe 2 years out to completion.

360 301--- Country Singer --- Heh. Nothing like a 9th inning grand slam!
I like MLB but honestly I prefer college ball now. Individual games in the regular season mean more and the post season is terrific....even if it can be devastating.

Hmmm... I see Vandy is pummeling Illinois right now.
Of course, it could turn around. Happens a bit more often in college ball than the pros.
USC was leading UVA 9-4 going into the 9th a few nights ago and we came back to beat them 14-10 in 11.

362 Even with a civil war (by a bunch of Russian outsiders), a country has got to have it's priorities ...

Mr. Poroshenko acknowledged in the interview that conditions were increasingly desperate for civilians who remained in the east, many of them older people and the infirm. But he said that his government had no choice but to seal the region off and that pressure from the separatists would cause many residents there to refuse aid from Kiev even if it could be delivered safely.

In a sign of how the country's Western supporters say things are changing in Ukraine, Mr. Poroshenko said his government would support a gay pride parade scheduled for Saturday in Kiev, which had drawn threats from right-wing groups.

"I will not participate in it," he said, "but I don't see any reason to impede this march, because it's a constitutional right of every citizen."

His stance contrasted sharply with that of Russia, where an effort to hold a gay pride march was quashed in Moscow last week and participants were arrested.

... it's come down to who will show their's ... gay pride parade.
