Joe Biden - Father [Weirddave]

As most of you know, Beau Biden , son of VP Joe Biden, died last night from brain cancer. He was 46 years old. This post isn't about Beau, who leaves behind a wife and two children who are no doubt devastated by his loss. Beau served honorably in Iraq where he was awarded The Bronze Star, and as such we as a country are poorer for the loss of such a man. No, this post is about Beau's father, Joe, Vice President of the United States.

Let me be perfectly clear. As a politician, I loathe Joe Biden. LOATHE. His frankly offensive diatribe against Robert Bork's nomination for SCOTUS stands as one of the all time low points of American political oratory, and is diarrhea of the mouth, stream of consciousness verbal ramblings as VP embarrass the nation on a daily basis. I've talked to people who know him personally, and they tell me he is a viscous, cutthroat politician of the lowest order, absolutely amoral in his quest for power. Nasty, rotten and ruthless, Joe Biden is the poster boy for everything that is wrong with the political class in America.

He is also a father, and while I despise Joe Biden the politician, I admire him quite a bit as a father.

In 1973, on the eve of his election to the Senate, Joe's first wife and daughter were killed in an automobile accident. His two sons, Beau and Hunter were seriously hurt. Joe raced to the hospital and stayed by their side. His aids implored him to take a break. “Joe, you have to go to Washington to be sworn in to the Senate”. He refused. “Delaware can get another senator, but my sons can’t get another father.”. That's priorities, and they are in the right order. He was eventually sworn in in the hospital, at the bedside of his children who needed him there.

Biden1.jpg

We like to make fun of “Joey Choo-choo” because of Biden's love of Amtrak. It is silly, and it certainly is antiquated in this day and time, and I believe it has become an affectation, but it has real roots. In 1973, Amtrak facilitated Biden getting from Washington DC back home every night. Why did he feel the need to make such a trip every day?

Because his two young sons, who had just lost their mother and sister, needed him. Once again, priorities, and in the right order.

Last night on Twitter, there was an outpouring of sympathy for Joe Biden, and much of it came from people who were vehemently opposed to Biden's politics. I saw a few lefties halfheartedly trying to start a meme - “Right wing venom over the death of Biden's son is abhorrent”, but curiously enough I didn't see any venom linked. I'm sure there were some despicable people gloating somewhere, but I didn't see any and more to the point the lefties claiming it couldn't provide any links. I suspect they were projecting, because any time misfortune strikes a right wing pol I CAN provide oodles of links, screen shots and references to the most vile stuff imaginable.

Joe Biden is still the VP of the worst administration in American history. The country may not survive the damage he and Barry have caused. Right now, however, he is a man dealing with the worst blow life can inflict on a person, the death of a child. On behalf of Ace of Spades HQ and all of the co and open bloggers, my prayers go out to him in this, his moment of loss.

30 Good post, agree completely.

Biden DID perpetrate a sad injustice to other grieving parents after Benghazi. He almost certainly knew the lies his administration was sowing, and he personally looked into parents' eyes and allowed them to be mislead about their sons' deaths. Shame on him, as he knew first- hand their pain.

45 No one should have to endure the pain and heartbreak that the Bidens have. As one grows older, such things happen to those around us, and the pain is personally felt and extended even to those that we do not personally know.

It is in these circumstances that our character is tried.

Over the past six years I have felt nothing but a sort of pitying contempt for Joe and his wife. Insofar as his professional life is concerned, that probably will not change, but as fellow human beings, they have my heartfelt sympathy.

I held my tongue the day he died; after that, I could care less what anyone said.

But I said then and I will say now, we can't badmouth the left for all the hateful things they say when one of ours dies if we do the same thing.

Just because they lack common decency doesn't mean we should get down in the dirt and roll with them.

I am sorry to even think this, but the way these assholes have taken over the country and the way power is passed down from generation to generation makes me sick. It seems the only cure is if they die off. Starting with the kennedys.

116 For me, the thing that sums up the character of Joe Biden in the face of tragedy is how he has for decades now described how his first wife was killed by a truck driver "who was drunk behind the wheel", in Biden's version.

This is utterly unsupported by the facts. The truck driver was stone cold sober. The police inquiry concluded that Mrs. Biden fatally erred when she pulled out in the path of the truck.

That didn't stop Joe from lying consistently and repeatedly about it, to the huge distress of the family of the driver who Biden has dishonestly blamed for the accident.

135 Beau Biden did serve in the U.S. armed forces, and I thank him posthumously for his service. One thing I should mention though, I'd like to think there is no connection, BUT, Beau Biden detained a Mr. Larry Sinclair under an " out of state default warrant for an unpaid motel bill from many years prior' Mr. Sinclair was on his way to a press conference in Washington D.C. to expose Candidate B.H. Obama and his illicit cocaine fueled sex romp with Sinclair in the back of a limousine in Chicago Circa 1995. Was Beau Biden "ordered by his father,Joe tobdetain Mr. Sinclair on trumped up charged that were later dismissed without merit? Sinclair was held incommunicado until after to 2008 Election. A dad that would force his son to compromise his sons morals and legal responsibilities to win an election is dispicable , to say then least. What could Beau do? Say no to his loving father, who was there for him his entire life? You e the judge.

I didn't mean to dis the post. I was a really great post, and appropriate.

And I do respect Biden a bit for some of what he says and does, but like his interest in trains (read the Williamson column about that,) I think he has an inking of an idea, but has been so far corrupted by DC that it gets lost.

I also feel bad for saying anything negative at all, but thought I had a couple valid points, not instead of the post, but in addition. Not thoughts that I would have wanted to see on the front page, but thoughts that are OK in the comments.

So for the next few weeks old Slow Joe gets a pass from us--but not to worry, he'll soon enough return to being the same old loathesome turd he always was. But meantime Joe--my thoughts and prayers are with you as you wrestle with something that none of us should ever have to face (but some of us do get to face it.)

154 Prayers go out to Biden and his wife as they deal with the death of their son. He's thrice had to endure the loss of a family member (and two of them were his children). So whatever else he is, as a father and husband, he deserves our sympathy.

Almost 6 years ago, we were in his shoes. In an 18-month stretch we lost a son to cancer, a nephew to cancer, and a niece to a car accident. Whatever else he is, he's a loving father, so he gets a pass for a while in my book.
