Watched the latest "Star Trek" flick, "Into Darkness", last night. What a foetid mass of crap that was. J. J. Abrams sucks green donkey balls.

Later on, the missus and I stepped outside around 10:45 in order to see the ISS passing overhead. Real clear night and pretty cool to see. She has an app that tells when it's visible, how high in the sky it is and the direction it'll travel. It's supposed to be more or less overhead tonight around 10 PM EDT.

For those who bother to look, Venus and Jupiter are prominently visible in the evening sky right now.

Time to go weed the garden...

my opinion: Linux Mint, then OpenSuse then Ubuntu.

The different distributions, under the hood, come down to how they handle software packages, updates etc, then how they play with commercial sources.

if you're not familiar, avoid Slackware. it doesn't follow the same conventions as the Linux Consortium puts out. conversely, if you're ever in trouble find a Slackware user - they know Linux better than anyone.

It's not that ISIS is a direct Military Threat to Israel, but that chaos in The Middle East is not good for anyone, in particularly Israel since they LIVE THERE. 49 Ubuntu's got nice support, Debian compatible. It supported my laptop with a full set of drivers, which Puppy Linux didn't, which is why I went with it. Didn't care for the Unity desktop at first, so I switched to a few alternates for a while. More used to Unity now, though.

The military -- and I'm sure you know better than most, NGU -- is a "passive" operation as far as Choom Boy and Congress are concerned. They will do what their CiC tells them to do, and the complaining about conditions, equipment, "leadership," etc. will be muted or nonexistent. They are taught to respect and obey Command.

So when the Mocha Messiah wants to pimp one of his constituencies (the LGBTQEXKRVZ crowd) at the expense of the people who actually PROTECT his worthless ass, they'll grin and bear it.

It has gotten to the point where I, as a civilian, wish the military to stand up to the worthless fuckweasel and his fanbois and say "enough!"

I'm in favor of treating homosexual and transgender people with compassion, but celebrating their condition seems a bridge too far.

Why are we celebrating the fact that some people (homosexuals) are sexually abnormal (the norm being heterosexuality), and some people (transgenders) are mentally abnormal? Bruce Jenner is obviously (biologically, chromosomally) a male. The fact that he "feels" like he should have been born a female is no doubt miserable for him, but hardly deserving of celebration by the rest of us.

Showing tolerance and compassion for people who have these issues is a good thing. But presidential proclamations that we should be celebrating such people, and that they should take pride in their condition, is just ludicrous.

55 Mint just has all the drivers and non free stuff rolled into it mostly. its a good starters linux for that reason. Debian is generally good but frustrating for some issues, depending on what you do and what you need because of their strict policies on non free software.

Lotta people will say Ubuntu, but I like Linux Mint 17.1...so very windows like, with great multimedia support built in. Running Kali on all my boxes right now, but once my self-training is done I'll clear my little box and put Mint back on it.

So how did Beau swing flying half-way across the country for treatment in Texas?

Sadly, I don't think enough "little people" are gonna care to make a difference. Whether they see pols and celebs as aristocracy or as Politburo, they accept that the *ruling class* gets to live different. Just ration the care available to those productive jerks who went to college and got good jobs/founded companies and work hard at something useful for their money because it's not fair that they've got better than the unproductive class...that's good enough for most.

FWIW, I'm running Linux Mint 17.1 and it works very well. Probably my problem, but I had lots of trouble getting it to recognize the network, whereas Win 7 came up with a full network map without problem or actions required on my part.

If you are going to multi-boot, I think the best approach is to load Windows first, the Linux install will establish the multi-boot feature for you. Since drives are so cheap, I installed Windows on a dedicated C drive, then added a drive for Linux so rather than a multi-OS single disk system, I had a multi-OS multi-disk system that could be easily be physically separated when I needed to destroy emails on my "personal" server, not that I would ever do any such thing because of my principles.

You might also look into running Linux on a virtual machine (as opposed to the live disk approach) to test drive it, but you need a pretty good/modern system to have responsive performance. I've never liked the live disk if I wanted to wring out the system because it is a bit clunky, and I feel that virtual machines, while not perfect, run more like the real thing (especially at boot time).

It's built around BSD/Unix and has the best windows manager on top of it.

You could utilize parallels VM and pretty much install whatever flavor of linux/unix you want.

My current laptop has Win 7, Win 8, Win 10 Developers Ed, Fedora linux, and Arch Linux insalled as VM's

Works brilliantly.

I was surprised about that when I broke my leg a couple of years ago. Also dislocated my arm at the same time (I wasn't f-ing around). My lower leg was shaped like the letter S, but it was very numb and really didn't hurt, even when they tried to lift it and I could feel the bones grinding. But the arm, wow, the pain there was really something, that was about a 9.5 on the old 1-10 scale. Apparently I had a nerve caught between the bones. It was almost enough to make me pass out. But the leg, nah.

That's funny. I've broken my left arm twice and I don't recall any serious pain each time either. Seems strange to think about it now. Should have hurt like Hell but I don't remember it so much.

159 The most painful part of my broken arm when I was 11 was the ambulance ride to the hospital from the Boy Scout Camp us Cubbies, and parents, were having a family camping weekend. Those rutty roads did not make my arm feel the least bit good. Then country roads/US route for about 30 miles. Not fun, even with my arm wrapped in a pillow. My first, and unfortunately not my last, ambulance ride.

160 I broke my femur in a bike accident 18 months ago. All the docs said it was the most difficult bone to break and the most painful. Don't know about the first part, but can vouch for the second part. I've broken lots of bones over the years; that was the most painful by a country mile.
