The easiest commandment to break is violating the Sabbath. I had a close friend in college who was very orthodox. He walked everywhere after sundown on Friday. He wouldn't even flip on a light-switch. Wanna have some fun? Tell your teenager he/she can't turn on their iPhone because of the 10 Commandments.

As the country overall becomes less religious it becomes increasingly popular to discount all religions as relics of the past. Old institutions like marriage and family and children have less importance, and 'sure, why shouldn't two gay guys be married?' replaces popular concepts like the Defense of Marriage Act.
The leftists and those indifferent to religion, with their self-proclaimed 'enlightened view', suppose that Islam will also fall by the wayside. Despite ever increasing evidence that a Reformation -- a return to a literal interpretation of the Koran and Hadith -- is fueling the fire burning through the Middle East and is certain to once again return to this country in some dreadful fashion. I've been a follower of Robert Spencer and other writers on Islam for over a decade now and feel just as gloomy for our future as I did on September 11th, 2001. Perhaps even more so. Sorry to be a bummer. Posted by: SE Pa Moron at May 23, 2015 01:15 PM (xQX/f) 46

I was thinking recently about how the 10 commandments are guidelines to a happy life.
Consider how progs flout them and how bitter and unhappy they are as a natural consequence. Posted by: @votermom at May 23, 2015 04:26 PM (cbfNE) 120

I have not always strictly conformed to the commandments. I am not worthy of entry to heaven. Or I wasn't until JESUS paid my sin debt, and my JESUS is not the one mohamadans believe is returning to kill all the Christians and Jews.

I feel so dirty, now that I have read the 10 Commandments again after all of these years, so thanks for the blog post, the thread, everything. I'm not on fire yet, but given the list of things that "thou shall not", I undoubtedly will be soon. So, fu*k it! If I'm gonna burn, then ...

Fenelon. You mentioned Andrew Murray (sp?)a while back. In my college days a long time ago I read a couple of his. I mostly remember Abide In Christ. I am also a big fan of Hannah Whitehal Smith (again spelling?) I often think of A Christian's Secret of a Happy Life and The God of all Comfort. Wish it could be more like that.

Only Hanukkah? Hardly!
I'm an atheist and I know Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkot, Purim, Passover, Tu Bishvat and Tisha B'av. Though I had to look up spellings. All through school, the goys got non-essential (but enriching and fun) lessons while the Tribe slacked off. To be fair, I lived eight years in NYC. Hi, Beth-
And a Blessed Pentecost to you. Yes, Andrew Murray has a lot of fine, fine books. I was mentioning "With Christ In The School of Prayer" ,although everything I have read by him has been excellent, if one can get past the slightly old fashioned language. I haven't read "Abide in Christ" though; I'll have to look for that. I have read "A Christians Secret to a Happy Life" and enjoyed that a lot.. I'm not sure what you mean by "I wish it could be more like that", dear sister ,but I will pray for you. We alls stand in the need of prayer. :^) You know, you can get a lot of these books on line. Consider reading them again and ask God to fill you with his spirit and renewal and continue to pray for a fresh outpouring of the Holy spirit on the church, our communities , our country and the world. Fenelon. It was a typo. .. wish I could be more like that. Thanks for the prayers. Mine is a complicated relationship with God but I my faith in Him for this country keeps me sane.
Posted by: Beth M at May 23, 2015 06:02 PM (kiy9d) 128
Oh forgot to add I still have some of the books.
Posted by: Beth M at May 23, 2015 06:03 PM (kiy9d) 129
Great; If you're anything like me you have boxes and boxes of books that take up too much space. ;^)
Dig some of them out and read them again. I always get a fresh infusion of spirit when I read these great old writers. I am so glad your faith is a help to you. Posted by: FenelonSpoke at May 23, 2015 06:10 PM (1sJza) 130
Thanks. It's always nice to find someone who's read them, too. Good luck at your church conference.

Thanks,. Beth, I appreciate that.

The Ten Commandments + the Great Commandment + the Second Great Commandment given by Jesus Christ = the Twelve Commandments which are the foundation of an ordered stable beneficial civilization and the path to freedom and peace.
Psalm 119 tells us how to regard these Commandments - as GOD's loving gift to humanity. Jesus died to give us the new hearts and minds to be willing and able to follow these commandments and the path of salvation. Posted by: georgiafl at May 24, 2015 09:21 AM (+bbt6) 134

Number 7 is on correct. The correct translation is " thou shall not murder."
