Next week is my denominational meeting. We have six pieces of legislation related to homosexuality-I am hoping that I can avoid some of the discussion because I have to be out of the room counting votes. We are supposed to have the largest attendance ever for our denominational meeting; I think it's not coincidental that we have a high registration and this legislation at the same time, but you can't vote unless you're a credentialled clergy or laypersons (Rep from a church) They don't allow tables at the meeting trying to influence votes on legislation but I hope we're not going to heave to wade through loud group protestors outside on either side of the issue.

Last night I woke up from a nightmare in which there was a terrorist attack by ISIS or something at the meeting. As far as I recall they have metal detectors before you go in the Conf rooms, but still-this nightmare was very unsettling.

I would appreciate your prayers for our group. The meeting starts on Thursday and goes through part of Saturday. Uggh.

My friend's son graduated last year. He said it was a living hell. For 4 years he had to keep his mouth shut and take it. And he's not necessarily full-on conservative. Just a good, decent hardworking kid who is actually a self-starter and go-getter.

I think about my dad a lot lately, and what he would think about what's going on now. I'm sure he'd be heart broken.

He was an hero in WWII and he loved this country dearly. But a few years before he passed, he started seeing the direction we are going. He was sadly angry the last year or so of his life. We talked about it often.

I miss him dearly, but I'm glad he's not here now.

I hated every character in that movie by the end of it, except Zack Galafinakis. When you make him look good by comparison, you have really hit bottom. Hated the daughter who was always flirting with jumping, too. I was like BOTH OF YOU TWO CUCKOOS, DO IT. END THIS POS. In the end, that was the whole premise. Spoiler alert: he jumps in the end, and his daughter sees him flying around like a bird.

Not so with Obama. Not even close. I hate him - profoundly. And I have no respect for him and what is worse, he has taught me to have no respect for the office he holds either. He has devalued it to the point, for me, that I see it with derision. I see him as a puffed up caricature of the infamous leaders of the past all rolled into one: Louis the XIV, Napoleon, Mussolini, Hugo Chavez, Castro and even Hitler.

One good thing is that he has taught me to lose what little respect I still had for the persons and the offices held by my "representatives" in congress as well. He has taught me to see clearly the corruption that has infected our whole government like a festering canker.

It was Clinton. When Clinton was impeached, he deserved to be impeached. He committed crimes and he lied under oath. He participated in a cover-up and he obstructed justice.

But because of the office he held, he wasn't convicted. He, in the eyes of the senate, was above that level of the law. The level of the law that applies to us - down here.

When that division was made between to whom the laws will apply, it started this snowball to where we are at where not only to whom the laws will apply, but also whom shall make those decisions.

You, or I, could be arrested for any number of 'crimes' today that we don't even know that we are committing. You could be out fishing and catch a 'rare' species of fish that is a quarter inch too small and you could be arrested and fined. Yet a person coming to this country illegally will not face any type of sanction and will instead be rewarded with "benefits".

Until there is some rationality restored into this scenario that we used to call a country, we're screwed.

We're not a country of laws and any time someone says that we are, they are insulting our intelligence.

I agree that there is an element of randomness in life. Navigating the minefield of life involves frequent reassessment of risk. Having the analytical ability to gauge risk and weigh the risk against the benefits is key. I work in a field where I try to give reassurance to families, but we never have the ability to give 100% reassurance. A surprisingly high number of families have trouble grasping this concept. So, in relation to whether or not you move to Texas, you are in the process of calculating your risks and benefits. My comment about "so there's a chance" was meant to point out the irony of the small chance of a tornado in Marble Falls seeming to be a deciding factor for your brother. Sorry about your accident in 1999.
