8 Yawn . . . . is it rapey Tuesday already?

Since nothing else is going on yet, I'm going to comment on that sidebar article about Bristol Palin's cancelled wedding. It says that "the families" will still be getting together on the 23rd. I think that means the families . . . of Bristol Palin and her friends, not including the lying fiance'. It was too late for the Palins to get back all the non-refundable deposits for the food, decorations, flowers, etc., ordered for the wedding reception, so they've decided to have a party anyway, since they're already stuck paying for it.

Poor Bristol. She has really lousy taste in men. Here's hoping she has better luck next time.

37 Insty has an article linked on his site about how Chelsea Clinton has a reputation for being "difficult" (i.e. bitchy and overly-controlling) and has been causing lots of turnover at the Clinton slush fund since she came on board in an executive position.

An article a few months back reported how Chelsea and her husband were attending some function where the Clintons were receiving some bogus award, and as the family were being introduced, Chelsea's hubby stood up with them and started to walk towards the stage. Chelsea, according to the article, elbowed her husband aside and told him he didn't belong on the stage, because he "wasn't a Clinton."

There seems to be a lot of smoke around the "Chelsea Clinton is a total bitch" rumors. Wonder how much damage the inevitable fire will do?

As Levin said last night, he never in his life has witnessed this horrific a collection of unprincipled political hacks (McConnell, Boehener, et al) coupled with the disaster that now inhabits the Office Of The President of the U.S..

Throw in a in the tank MSM and you have the perfect storm that will see this nation brought low.

Levin played a clip of the Tennessee turtle on with Clinton's bag man where in one breath he talks about Obamas executive overreach and in the next he says it's important to give him his crafted in secret trade deal, all the while chuckling and talking about having Bourbon with the SCOAMF.

The GOP winning control of both chambers of Congress has been an unmitigated disaster with this crew in charge.

What they need to do is make that a multiple state class action.

NJ has an even more stringent and absurd standard than DC.

Basically you have to be connected and or transport money in New Jersey in order to get a CCP.

The SCOTUS declined to hear a case last year regarding CC in NJ.

Maybe they are letting all of these other cases percolate through the system, but it sucks that the NJ case didn't get its day in court.

57 Yesterday was not fun.

>>Rain added up quickly with 2-4" falling across the Shreveport/Bossier City metro area leaving many low-lying or poorly draining roads under water through the morning. The highest rain totals estimated by radar were across Sabine and Natchitoches Parish where up to 10" may have fallen.

>>Shreveport picked up a record amount of rain for this date. The 4.18" measured at the airport broke the old record of 3.42" set on May 18th back in 1942. We're running nearly one foot above our average rainfall for the year so far.

KSLA.com

At least one fatality yesterday from flash flooding.

I tried to go to an appt in the morning, but only made it a block before turning around. Most vehicles made it through the water in my neighborhood, but my van doesn't have a high clearance. At least one car got stuck near here, and plenty of others got stuck elsewhere.

The Red River is near flood stage at Shreveport and has hit the flood stage at Coushatta.

Some lovely pics here: http://sendit.ksla.com/gallery/recent

Of course we're supposed to get more rain today and the rest of the week.

Hopefully no where near as much! The ground is, as you can guess, rather saturated.

No story today; the weather is cold and rainy and it's just too damn depressing to look out the window. Anyway, I couldn't find any story I liked well enough to repeat.

A book recommendation, though, for fans of either William Holden or Audrey Hepburn: Audrey and Bill: A Romantic Biography of Audrey Hepburn and William Holden by Edward Epstein. It chronicles the affair the two had during the filming of 1954s Sabrina and the constant fights with co-star Humphrey Bogart, who hated Holden and didn't want to appear with Hepburn. I've just started it, so no tidbits yet; I'll let you know.

Downside to being famous even if only because of family- everything that happens around you gets magnified and spun and the ability to do things that lead to better judgement through experience are front page news.

Well, as long as the media decides they want to anyway. If you are from a protected family you have to screw up really big and generally around a lot of witnesses in public for it not to be deemed a private matter. What a world.

Watching the movie you wouldn't know that there was so much discord - I guess they knew how to act. Anyway, Sabrina (the original) is one of my favorite movies, and not just because of Audrey Hepburn. In one scene Humphrey Bogart gives one of the best defenses of the social utility of capitalism that you will see on screen. And this after the commies had already taken over Hollywood - how did that slip through the cracks?

97 Damn Fox news; headline says biker brawl started over 'parking space'. If you read the article it's about territory and drugs. One gang was moving into texas and the other gang trying to keep them out. Apparently both gangs were selling drugs.

Police shot four bikers, and now rumor has it the gangs are going to retaliate against the police.

Meanwhile, Obama's push to federalize local sheriff's departments will undercut 2nd amendment where those sheriffs are refusing to enforce federal gun control laws.

So in a case where federal agents should be allied with local police to take down a wide spread organized crime gang, Obama is focusing on disarming innocent, law abiding citizens.

The subsequent embroilment in drunken fights with trashy guys at low-class parties, and now this wedding fiasco, all come as no surprise.

characteristics of your posting have been similar to folks who were
recently banned -- that doesn't mean that you are that recently-banned

that I have any power to ban you......but if there were a three-factor
banning, I may have spotted one -- which I might know about 'cause I've

But I'm really not in the banning business

135 Why didn't Obama attack the ISIS parade in Ramadi?

First, it was a victory celebration, not a military maneuver, Second there were innocent bystanders and there would be collateral damage. Third it was a propaganda picture posted by ISIS and might not have actually happened (time and place) as reported in the news. It might have been a 'stock photo' from two years ago and in some other location. And it would be 'bad optics' like the slaughter along the highway leading out of Kuwait twenty (? something) years ago.

Or it could be that Obama was out golfing and the pentagon couldn't get him to sign off on the attack order.

If you're of a certain age, you will recall the Democratic Party, and specifically the New Left wing of the Democratic Party, being extremely heated up over Richard Nixon's conduct of the war in Vietnam.

Specifically, the air war. Which liberals said was a brutal and conscienceless and anti-humanitarian undertaking by its essential nature. Guaranteed to produce civilian casualties. A crude tool which only a crude caveman of a President would ever countenance.

Fast forward to today. Suddenly liberals have no problem with air wars! It's almost as though their indignation is highly selective or something.

161 "A USMC V-22 Osprey made a hard landing at Bellows AFS in Hawai'i resulting in the death of one Marine and injuring 21 others."

Demurring from the wording here, even though "hard landing" is the official and preferred Marine description.

A "hard landing" is one where those aboard get looked over by paramedics and the airframe gets looked over by mechanics.

When those aboard go to the critical care unit and/or to the morgue, and the airframe is a written-off total loss, that is a "crash".

The Marine Corps are absolutely desperate to avoid the use of that word in connection with Osprey operations, in light of the bird's checkered history, but a crash this was, without doubt.

She's not crazy at all. She's evil and calculating and she has guessed (correctly) that the media will let her skate, no matter what revelations come out about her and her rotten corrupt husband and spawn.

She also knows that there are a sizable number of fools out there who will vote for her because 1. D and 2. vajayjay.

Not crazy at all. It's the country that's gone nuts.

Good thing you guys are all chipper and happy, otherwise this might be a foul morning.

But on the bright side, my internet will be up and running tomorrow and my cable will be installed on Saturday. And the scooter will be shipped up here next month.

172 Anna I was there for much of the later fun in the ONT. what Cooth said was that some of the Luap Nor stuff sounded similar to stuff that the ID thief troll had been saying, and he felt something he said deserved a yes or no answer that LN did not want to give. I think Cooth is a little paranoid right now, but he made a point of saying he didn't know if LN was trolling him or not and apologized several times afterwards on the ONT.

178 "There is an air base near Ramadi (6-8 miles away) where 'hundreds' of US military are 'training' Iraqi army."

Before Obama even showed up, George W. Bush had the same brainstorm about the need for "more training", and dumped fifty billion bucks into "training" Iraqis (which is a hell of a lot of money in a country the size of Iraq).

Result? Bupkis.

I said it back then and I'll say it again now. Training can impart skills. Training can't impart loyalty or courage. Those things come from different places.

Anyone else suspect we could recapitalize our military at a fraction of the cost with new-build B-1's, F-15's, and Ohio-class subs (et cetera) and still have the best force in the world?

Rather than spend extra billions on "stealthy" systems that will rapidly become obsolete because of advances in detection technology?

The best job I ever had was taking helicopters from the boneyard at Adam and refurbishing/upgrading them for a SA Navy program. Lucrative, fun work, and travel to assemble and fly them out for delivery. We spanked the manufacturer's bid for the work by orders of magnitude. I can only imagine what the manufacturer's could do if they wanted to, but it's more 'profitable' to sell new stuff.

191 Rather than spend extra billions on "stealthy" systems that will rapidly

The gulf war strategy was first blind the sensors with a few undetectable stealth aircraft - then you control the air space. B52s are fine bombers if the enemy can't see them coming. Retro fit them with LCD visual camouflage so the enemy literally can't even see them coming and they're good for another 50 years.

Active radar has a big problem; you can always detect active transmissions farther away from the transmitter than the enemy radar can detect you as a target. Send a homing missile after the transmitters and that is the end of the enemy radar.

Passive systems can be decoyed with cheap drones; is that a B52 making that noise, or is it a drone pretending to be a B52?

192 Gosh, if only New Jersey had a prominent Republican
as Governor who could acidly point out the utter ridiculousness and

Posted by: torquewrench at May 19, 2015 07:56 AM (noWW6)
Never going to happen. NJ is a union/Dem stronghold. Christie is about as "conservative" as the governor will get. The legislature is controlled by the Dems and will always be controlled by the Dems. I can go back to newspapers from the 30's and see the Democrat stranglehold. Many Eastern European immigrants settled here after leaving Ellis Island to work in the many industries, my grandparents included, and the Dems got to them very quickly. Many of them leaned socialist from the start, so the Dems had a good foothold immediately, especially in the cities. That Dem influence continues to this day and I don't see any change, after living here for all of my 68 years and a political junkie for most of my adult life.
