Early Morning Thread 5/16/15 - Meh edition. [krakatoa]

I appreciate all the effort everyone put in this week. I just do my best to not get worked up over the same reductive BS willingly lapped up by LIVs time after time.

I can't win that argument. Lord knows I've tried. But as the good man said, you can't reason someone out of a position they didn't first reason themselves into.

That assumes a logical, thoughtful process in the first place, which is not the case. It is emotion, superstition and fiction that gets them brainwashed.

17 Scouting was good, then for me it got bad. I walked away and never looked back. The best part, learning how to start and maintain a fire, how to cook over an open flame, how to identify trees, and the entire outdoor experience.

The bad part was I knew nothing of homosexuality, nor did I care. But they were there, even way back then. One 'camp counselor' (mid 20's of age, I guess) got escorted away one night after showing up at my troops campground. He got caught j*rking off someone in my troop who was 14 or 15 I guess. I had seen my troop-mate sitting on his lap, got grossed out and walked away. Someone else heard about it, reported it to an adult leader who caught the 'camp counselor' in action. After that I wanted no part of Scouting. Not my thing anymore.

The rabbithole goes all the way down. Once a person's sense of self is completely divorced from reality (a man can be a woman if he wants), there's no limit to what kind of insanity a they can believe about themselves. There's nothing too mad for them anymore, no point where they go "wow, that's bullshit" and step away from the brink.

28 Graduation Day!

My NYC guests have rerouted around the severed railroad tracks, adding hours to their journey. The music festival that would have been my graduation party was postponed for forecast thunderstorms that themselves have rolled back a day. Instead, we'll sing and play for ourselves this evening at the house. Alcohol may be involved and there will be sheep in abundance. (I thought that sheep line was an LBJ original, but it's actually biblical -- I Kings.)

Because various schools in the university have separate ceremonies scattered across the city, our house is divided. I got the two housemates who mattered most to me.

Everyone is together Monday for the all-uni ceremony, and that's the end of a four-year era. (Well, I hang about for two more weeks, packing for my move uptown. More on that later.)

My dress is clean and pressed, I'm actually able to walk on these two-inch heels, we've rehearsed a subtle makeup scheme that doesn't make me look like a painted harlot, and my hair is freshly styled in a way that should last through the day. All the accessories harmonize. I feel pretty.

I get one of many prizes at the ceremony, and get one minute for remarks. I have every intention of being humble and thankful, but you know what they say about good intentions.

So wish me well, say goodbye to Little Miss, and I'll see you all in the next life.

Good-bye to Little Miss? *sniff* That's sad.

In this new life, how will we recognize you?

It's been a week of glorious weather here. Think I'll stroll around my twee little historical towne, poke around the shops, and read bad paperback sci-fi at the hipster coffee joint.

94 you should see all the cranes and tall buildings going up here in Austin. The last time that happened, half of them stayed unfinished for years because of the crash of 2008. The had to demolish one of them, the Intel building, and start over. California is currently moving to Austin.

113 @109 ThunderB, my Salutatorian daughter struggled her first university year. Lost a scholarship. Failed a class. She is clawing tooth and nail to finish with a 3.0 gpa (in a STEM field-thank god, she should have hope of employment). Her first year struggle sent me Binging around the interwebs. There are numerous stories that gave me hope. It can be done.

114 Austin is bounded by municipalities to its north and south. They have a little room east and west now but are pretty much out of land to steal.
Which is causing tremendous growth in the northwest corridor of Cedar Park, Leander and Liberty Hill.
Our city council has decided to go with high density living instead of planned growth and we ran a slate of candidates to counter that but with a pathetic turnout of 1,600 voters in a town of 90,000 we were defeated. These high density projects are not populated yet and when they are we will organize those voters and change things.

Can't say I went on to success, but I did crap out my sophomore year. Bad depression and girl problems (but I repeat myself). Worked fast food for a few months, reapplied, finished up in a total of only three and a half semesters altogether.
Not that you would, but avoid shaming if possible. It's a strange period of life, but in the grand scheme, it's only a blip on the radar.
