First, he hadn't even seen the movie (I will be seeing it next week). Second, if Furiosa is half the badass Ripley is, who cares if she's ordering Max around? A while back I wanted to try making a Brandy Alexander (brandy, creme de cacao and heavy cream), but I couldn't find creme de cacao. I tried it with Kahlua instead. Goddamn tasty. I later found out that brandy, Kahlua and heavy cream make something called a Dirty White Mother, but that's made by mixing the Kahlua and brandy in a glass with ice and then floating the cream. I tried that, and didn't like it. I like my way better. I call it a Shaken White Mother.

Fairfax County to introduce 'gender fluidity' into their curriculum next week. Sounds like the parents in that district are pissed too as they can't opt out of this class and the school board also voted last week to allow boys who identify as girls to use the girls lockers and restrooms.
If, as in Michigan, Virginia school board members are elected, then this is the fault of the voters. If a school board around here tried to pull a stunt like this, there would be a recall election. That's where people who are pissed off at what a board member does, start a petition to force a recall election. Once they get enough signatures, the election is held, and the voters don't have to wait until the next regular election to get rid of the bum. 99 There's a boy in the girls' restroom. Somebody call the gendermes!!
Posted by: Muldoon, a solid man at May 15, 2015 10:26 PM (NeFrd) The way to challenge the whole multiplicity of genders is pretty simple. Their whole mythology basically rests on the idea that the soul can be born into the wrong body, and that the soul somehow has a sex that overrides the sex of the body. They're talking about souls! This isn't scientific or logical, it's a religious idea. Having government institutions such as schools being legally compelled to act in accordance with those ideas is therefore then a "law respecting the establishment of religion", and violates the establishment clause as well as the doctrine of separation of church & state. Puppy is awesome. The problem? My husband's flight was delayed 3 hours and he was stranded on the Tarmac for two, so we changed our plan and I picked up the puppy without him. His plane still hadn't left after that so I was going to go to my brother in law's house in Arlington. Well, wouldn't you know it, right as I headed that way my husband's flight finally took off so it didn't make sense to go there after all. So I've got 4 kids and a puppy at the cell lot for another hour. Now the debate is if I should get the little guy out for a potty break or assume his silence means he's asleep. I'm going with let sleeping dogs lie for now. Posted by: Lauren at May 15, 2015 10:45 PM (3ztc7) 177
Posted by: nerdygirl at May 15, 2015 10:28 PM (kGrwF) Not all of Virginia's school boards are elected. "No, it's the MasterCard ending with 5678." "Oh, will that expire soon?" "No, it's good until October 2018." "Do you have my Discover?" "We only have three MasterCards and two Visas."
And, BTW, the guy who did that to my amazon account has used the email address "DisD0ngMung@outlook.com" -- so when amazon wants to get even with him for utterly destroying their "one-click ordering", they can get information about the guy there. If we were going to be scientific about this gender thing we would set up a controlled study that would last several years and include a large sample size.
One school would have normal boys/girls bathrooms and showers, and gym classes. That would be our 'control group'. Another school would have the students who 'identify as' would use the 'identify as' bathroom as appropriate. Girls who identify as male, use the male facilities, not the female facilities. and verse viceah. A third school would simply have open facilities. Anyone can use any facility. Psychologists, psychiatrists, pundits, gender studies majors, news media, parents, teachers et all would constantly monitor the student body mental health and development. After twenty years, the results would be tabulated, analyzed, and published. What we would find is that a majority of students would be unaffected by the experience, some small minority would exhibit some level of stress, and a very small number would be clearly psychotic. Thus confirming ten thousand years of human existence for a few billion dollars of federal grant money that would make the careers of tens of thousands of scientists, pundits, pollsters, psychologists, psychiatrists, federal bureaucrats, and a few criminal lawyers, judges, and law enforcement officers. Everybody wins, and the science would then be settled. Posted by: Jones Joycenski at May 15, 2015 10:56 PM (No+Cu) 226

What does bother me is they lied and pretended this was a Mad Max movie and not a Mad Max plays scond fiddle movie.
Yeah, as soon as "Aliens" was announced and Cameron said Sigourney Weaver was coming back, most of those who'd seen the original figured that Weaver would be the star. And Cameron didn't disappoint in that. So here we are with a Mad Max sequel - which, by the way, actually has "Mad Max" in the title, where Alien/s didn't mention Ripley - and, oops, turns out that Max doesn't drive the plot. There's a guy in front of a rig playing heavy-metal music with a two-necked guitar and flames coming out. It's just like a heavy-metal album cover / routine... or Spinal Tap. So it's a parody. And it's not a parody of ISIS. It's a parody of the Western male. Which means the movie is aligned with the meme of Western male "rape culture"; that this is an actual thing, and the biggest threat we have to watch out for. Taro: you're not seeing the big picture. Frank was a big Kennedy guy but I never got the feeling he was political, he was more about mob connections and being pals with the very, very powerful, he was the center of the universe back then. My grandmother was one of the swooning bobbysoxers back in the WWII era, and the Vegas Frank part is really something. Many cameos. The Mia Farrow marriage still seems ludicrous, Elvis makes a hilarious appearance, etc. Anyway the music is fantastic. He sounds like post WWII America. Recommend checking it out. Calling a tough chick flick "Mad Max" does not make that movie in fact "Mad Max". Or even Mad Maxish or Mad Max like.
Baiting Mad Max fans with hyperventilating feminist agitprop is bullshit and a sure sign of insecurity. But you knew that. Speaking of climate change, the site linked above
refering to the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range is a lefty site that says doubting AGW is tinfoil bullshit. Concensus-tards are enemies of science. Posted by: eman at May 15, 2015 11:03 PM (MQEz6) Good catch. It's crazy, isn't it? They do a good job of reporting how scientific thought on the origin of the Sierra Nevadas has changed over time; how old hypotheses have been rejected, in favor of new ones, just the way science is supposed to work, and then when it comes to CAGW, it's "braaaawk, the science is settled, the science is settled." Proving that CAGW isn't science, it's religion. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at May 15, 2015 11:45 PM (LKDfc) 417

Liabilities: 500K - 1MM mortgage Math says the Obamas are worth 900K - 6.4MM. Q: If you have 7 figures in treasuries earning squat, why wouldn't you pay off your 6 figure mortgage? People who consider themselves transgender have a mental illness and should be receiving treatment and help, not behavior encouraging them to stay sick.
We all know about anorexics who look into a mirror and see themselves as fat. We all know about people who have delusions of being Napoleon or some other famous personality. You cannot make yourself into a woman by adding breasts or using hormones. You cannot make yourself something your genes deny. That's why genetic testing was used for years for Olympic trials. If you need surgery or pills to make yourself into the opposite sex..you have a mental illness that needs to be resolved. I know that transgenders are the new "witches" or hula hoops, but they need help and guidance, not accommodation of their illness. Posted by: Supreme Being at May 16, 2015 12:03 AM (SJ184) 451

"Frank was a big Kennedy guy but I never got the feeling he was political, he was more about mob connections"
He was more about mob connections and so, inter alia, were the Kennedys themselves. Up to a point. Before the Kennedy era, La Cosa Nostra was pretty quiet in terms of its public profile, and interfamily disputes were settled between the families. Typically in unpleasant but private ways. Old Joe certainly had had extensive business dealings with the various families, starting during his bootlegging years, but until the Kennedy presidency, things went along pretty much as they always had done. Then, suddenly, Attorney General Bobby was using the federal investigative and prosecutorial machinery to aggressively go after certain Mafia families while sparing others. The first time ever for such actions. (Note: I'm not implying here that JFK or RFK were killed by mobsters, but merely that the family as a whole had built up a whole lot of bad blood in certain quarters by that time. Note also: Teddy stayed well the fuck away from anything having to do with Cosa Nostra until he finally died of natural causes.) Posted by: torquewrench at May 16, 2015 12:05 AM (noWW6) 454

397 Apropos of nothing, I'd like to recomend the Sinatra documentary on HBO. It's very entertaining, even though HBO injects hardleft politics into it at odd times-they can't help themselves, seriously.
Posted by: Goldilocks at May 15, 2015 11:37 PM (PzVoh) Did the documentary tell why Frank became a Republican? Hint, it wasn't because he and Nancy Reagan were having an affair, it was because Sammy Davis Jr was disinvited to the White House because he was married to a white woman. For a Democrat even like JFK, that was a big no-no to be seen with. Wasn't a problem for Nixon though. He had Davis Jr to the White House several times. I saw Mad Max. I wasn't going to see it until I saw that Nolte at Breitbart gave it a positive review. I love action movies of all types and I hate SJW stuff cause I've seen what it has done to games and comics.
I didn't see any SJW stuff in Mad Max. The movie had women in it and they fight. Max was a prominent character and he and Furiosa shared screen time. She didn't boss him around. I'll say the problem with Mad Max was that they never topped the opening car sequence. And there are only a few ways you can watch cars blow up. The use of color and the art direction was incredibly impressive. The pacing is good considering the movie isn't about anything. Not the best action movie of all time. No way. But still a fun movie. Here's my question: If Ira is banned, why does he keep popping up? Posted by: mynewhandle at May 16, 2015 02:32 AM (AkOaV) There are multiple levels of embannitude....the lowest of which is BL*Z*R. I've been telling people for years -- no matter how drunk and rowdy you get and get banned, come back with an earnest level of contrition and Ace will probably let you back. I am frequently dumbstruck by how forgiving he can be. But if you react to the lightest levels of banning with the wrong sort of behavior (as Ira seems to be), you will rapidly progress down the wrong path. I would guess part of it is in your cookie and the cookie goes with the computer. When you moved did you keep your computer? I can change my hash anytime I want. Shut off my router and when I boot it back up, my isp assigns me a new ip address. That also is part of the hash. Posted by: Bitter Clinger and All That at May 16, 2015 02:45 AM (zRby/) 743

Reading NSF.com, it seems official that the Russian Proton launch failed to reach orbit.
I read earlier today that the Soyuz launch planned for May 26 has been postponed, since they don't know exactly what caused the Progress failure a couple of weeks ago. The rockets that launch Progress and Soyuz are very similar. Meanwhile, Congress is proposing cutting funding for the Commercial Crew development program in NASA's budget, which means they are hunky-dory with continued dependence on the Russians to get American astronauts into space. But for exploration and exploitation, it's going to take a capitalist enterprise. (swidt) That's what happened with world exploration in the 16th century. Wasn't until the mid 17th that real returns started and that because civilian companies began forming to exploit the resources that could be found (or stole). But for exploration and exploitation, it's going to take a capitalist enterprise. (swidt) Posted by: Bitter Clinger and All That at May 16, 2015 02:58 AM (zRby/) NASA was formed in 1958 from the old NACA, the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics. NACA was created in 1915, and it was a small government agency that conducted R&D for aviation. They made their data available to the companies that built airplanes. They didn't build their own airplanes or run their own airline. There are some who say that NASA should return to its roots, and concentrate on R&D for spaceflight, and perhaps scientific space missions. But there is no reason in this day and age for NASA to be designing and building their own rockets. There are plenty of rockets already, and companies like SpaceX are busily building a new generation of rockets that are more economical than what we've seen before. Their Falcon Heavy is supposed to have its maiden launch later this year, and they have some things in development that would dwarf the Saturn V. Posted by: rickl at May 16, 2015 03:27 AM (sdi6R) 772

rickl, NASA in its time during the 1960's was the only entity capable of financing manned spaceflight. After the Apollo missions, IIRC, a lot of the R and D was performed by contractors. Boeing with the Delta, Lockheed with the Titan and Atlas. They've since merged those operations into ULA, and both companies have divested their leverage, and competition, in that area.
Lockheed is the primary contractor for the Orion capsule. NASA gave them the specs, and Lockheed is supposed to build the actual spacecraft. SpaceX is doing some exciting work on launch vehicles, but I don't know if Elon has the money for R and D on manned flight. Maybe in the future. Me, personally, I'd love to see some private company come up with the wherewithal to do space mining of asteroids. There is an absolute fortune waiting to be made. It won't happen in my lifetime. He also told me that it would be in a 2018 time frame. I'm not going to hold my breath. It would involve the Orion, but hell, they haven't even done a manned flight with it yet. Not sure they could do that with an unmanned mission. Posted by: Old Blue at May 16, 2015 03:46 AM (9iR5/) 784

rickl, NASA in its time during the 1960's was the only entity capable of financing manned spaceflight. Schizoid, you want to talk about super Nerd. I have a new telescope. Last year I took it out and I could actually see Saturn's rings. It was the first time I'd seen that on my own. I called about a half dozen friends to tell them I could see Saturn's rings. Most of the replies I got were, Yeah, but can you see Uranus?
About a month ago, for the first time, I saw what was called the Fulcrum in the Orion nebula. I've seen pictures, but to see it with my own telescope sent me through the roof. Needless to say, I didn't call anybody. I just didn't want to hear them ask me if I could see Uranus. Posted by: Old Blue at May 16, 2015 04:31 AM (9iR5/) 819

OK -- on another subject, I was looking at this video -- http://tinyurl.com/ky26zgf -- and was amazedly thinking "I can do that!" in most of it [in fact, thinking "I can do that safer by clamping in a 4-jaw chuck" in quite a bit.]
Except when I got to the tool that is rotated into place about 4:08. So I stopped by the local msc to see if I could get one. Short answer, "no" or I'd own one -- longer answer "it depends" if I have some way to hold cylindrical tools with a flat. Posted by: cthulhu at May 16, 2015 06:16 AM (T1005) 860
261 Curiously, the treefrogs have gone silent. I wonder if they read the blog.

BTW -- Amazon response times are going to deteriorate fast -- you may want to remove your cc's before the rush kicks in.....and don't forget the apps store.
Plus, always and forever note that "DisD0ngMung@outlook.com" is the guy who opened the exploit. Posted by: cthulhu at May 16, 2015 06:42 AM (T1005) 863

Liberal DEMORATS continue to socially engineer our government, military, moralities, race tensions and economy, esp jobs pay and hours. The amazing part is how devastating it is and has been and yet idjits can't figure out its the demorats engineering it, despite their openly doing it.
