NFL Suspends Tom "Cheatyhands" Brady For Four Games

Update: Some more penalties:

The league also fined the Patriots $1 million and took away two draft picks, including next years' first-round choice.

The NFL also indefinitely suspended the two equipment staffers who carried out the plan, including one who called himself "The Deflator."

It gets worse. He's also been ordered to stare soulfully into Hillary Clinton's eyes.

149 Are the Massholes whining yet? You know the whole "they played better when they stopped them from cheating in the scone half!" claims. You know because that is the standard somehow for punishing cheating? Because somehow blowing them out in the second half demonstrates that their attempt at cheating wasn't that big of a deal. So apparently if you cheat and still lose you should also pay no penalty as well. I wonder where that cutoff point is that if you are caught cheating you have to face the consequences? Is it if you win by 3 touchdowns? Or maybe only 2? Or are you only subjected to a penalty of cheating if you win by a field goal or less?

155 I believe it would be much fairer if sports like football were played in a way that allowed every team to win a championship every 10 to 12 years. In order to accomplish this, I believe we must recognize the wasteful duplication inherent in capitalism and reduce the number of teams, perhaps one team per Federal Reserve district. As President I will appoint a commission to solve this problem.

-----

Whether he has to or now, I (and the NFL) am free to draw inferences against someone who doesn't participate. I can do the same thing in a civil court of law. You are free to dismiss the weight of the evidence offered, but there is evidence. The texts between the two equipment managers are evidence. His lack of participation is evidence. One guy being called the deflator is evidence. The balls being deflated is evidence. "Testimony" from other QBs is evidence.

This is how non-mathetical, court-type proof works. What makes circumstantial evidence good is when there is a lot of circumstantial evidence. Eventually, you cannot dismiss every piece of evidence - or it gets harder to do so.

There is more evidence than simply one or even two parties who may not like him.

I only care in that I hate it when people dismiss something because there is a lack of direct evidence. Circumstantial evidence is still evidence. And sometimes better than direct evidence.

Well according to the belicheck ball lickers it wouldn't be bad because this apparently only happened because he's a patriot. Because the NFL really wants to penalize and sitcom a black mark on one of their most popular teams that had just won the super bowl. And Goodell really wants to stick to his buddy who he parties with on his yacht.

248 I don't know, circumstantial evidence (in a court situation) leaves a lot of "reasonable doubt" open.

I know they call it the CSI effect, but for me -- I don't know.

------

Direct evidence is notoriously faulty. Eye witness accounts are very unreliable. And we have seen how crime labs screw up things (um, FBI).

One piece of circumstantial evidence can be dismissed. So can two, even three, but eventually you reach a point where you have to suspend disbelief on everything. It gets a lot harder to do.

But for sure criminal cases are (and should be) more difficult than civil ones. This was more akin to a civil case.

The Wells report is a joke, but the penalty is more severe than for beating your wife, pumping crowd noise into the stadium, paying players to injure opponents, or juicing up on steroids. This is another pathetic attempt by the NFL to look like tough guys by taking out a ridiculous penalty for a nothing action against the most hated team in the league. Congratulations, NFL. You screwed a team because a guy might have had some general awareness of slightly underinflated footballs that weren't worth your time to secure. Or to ever test during another game, ever. What a total joke. But hey, at least the fans of all the other teams can act all self-righteous about how the Patriots couldn't have won any games without cheating. 335 "Hey, lets destroy a man's livelihood, his reputation, his ability to make a living in the future because he may have/may not have known something generally that may or may not have been true, and probably means nothing in the greater scheme, because I don't know jack shit about football, but Ace said something, and I hate leftards that follow a meme without facts or thinking!!":

336 "The Pats are the most hated team in the League..."

Maybe it's not the team, just their sorry fans.

337 I knew this site was full of New England area liberals. Hey all you Brady fans - do you really think Tom would even want this in a court of law? You know, where he would be required to hand over his texts, and where he would be subject to jail time for perjury or destroying evidence?

Answer, No. Plenty of evidence, I don't want to hear that Waaah, waaah crying about the fact there is no solid evidence like Brady admitting under oath with 15 witnesses who took blood tests proving who they were with signed statements in triplicate and notarized by the supreme court themselves.

Brady, Romneycare, Ted Kennedy, Barney, and Patriot fans everywhere - laughingstocks to the nation - lie, cheat, steal, and expect us to believe you. Yeah, I know the drill, "but I went to Hawvard, I'm better than you."

Wow, you must be a genius. After all, you can judge the character of millions of people based solely on the pro football team they support, with most of them supporting the team simply because it was the one that played in closest proximity to their homes. Remember that idiotic attitude of yours the next time someone tells you all Republicans, conservatives, and/or libertarians are evil, scumbags, or racists.

It gets worse. He's also been ordered to stare soulfully into Hillary Clinton's eyes.

I think there's something about cruel and unusual punishment in the Constitution. Unless Teh Won's pen scratched it out?
