1 Good Morning Morons. Today is Thursday, May 07, 2015. On this day in 1847 The American Medical Association (AMA) was formed. Its purpose was to further the interests of Doctors and to standardize healthcare. Today it is just another wing of the Democrat Party.

5 Looks like Arlington TX will get rid of red light cameras. Supporters say it is a life saving measure. Opponents of the cameras say it is just another revenue measure. Studies have shown there is no perceptual difference in accidents or deaths from the use of these things. If anything the number of accidents in some cases have gone up. They are nothing more than illegal tax.

54 Obama has ordered Times Square to turn off its lights and threatened cutting off all federal funds to NYC.

I believe it was G.K. Chesterton who, on first seeing the lights of Times Square, exclaimed, "What a beautiful sight this would be to someone who could not read!" In any event, my Give-A-Fuck Meter for New Yorkers (except for J.J. and other Morons) is long past dead and busted.

So, on to Hollywood. Today is the birthday of Gary Cooper. A cute little story about him concerns the time he was driving through some small towns out West when he needed to stop for gas. After the fill up, he asked the attendant, "Do you mind if I pay with a check?"

The attendant said that, for Mr. Cooper, it was no problem, and Coop scrawled his John Hancock out and handed the check over.

As they were driving away, Cooper's passenger asked, "How many of those checks do you ever get back?"

"Oh, about one in ten,"
Cooper replied.

Here's a picture of the young Cooper in his Dusenberg J Durham Tourster (that's William Powell on the running board):

First of all, the law is that the lights can't be within 660 feet of an arterial highway. How the fuck is Broadway or any street between 42 and 49 fall into that category? Yes, B'way is a main drag but Doomberg choked off various parts of it and made them two lane pedestrian malls.

I'd like to try and see the Feds try thus stunt to turn the lights off on the Vegas strip.

I definitely remember one of the main arguments was that the heat given off by regular bulbs contributed to global warming. In fact, the reason I remember it was because when Germany banned incandescents for this reason, a couple of gutsy Krauts started a company that got around the ban by relabeling the package and calling them "Heat Bulbs" with the warning "Caution: bulbs emit bright light. Do not stare at for long periods."

Which, I think, is also why a lot of posters have the "don't care if a nuke wipes out DC" attitude. It's not that they want a huge swath of people to die, it's that there seems to be no legal way of removing the lawless Lerners, the do-nothing Issas and the actively-collaborating McConnells, let alone the permanent "deep state" of unaccountable Imperial Federal employees. We can't vote them out, we can't jail them, we can't make them fear us. What, then, is left but to wipe them out en masse? God help the country if enough people begin to think that way and begin collaborating with ISIS or Al-Q to sneak a suitcase nuke into the capitol.

OK, off for some tea and silence. BBL.

Pirex and Mirex is what I remember them using. They used to fly over in a converted B-17 and drop that stuff all over the city. And you could buy it to treat your yard. They banned pirex first then in a few years they banned mirex too. What I have found with the current stuff is that all it does make the fire ants move their mound.

93 7th Grade science class, the entire class holding hands in a great circle, tied to a generator. Memorable!

For Christmas, my son got me one of those flashlights that has multiple LED bulbs. Since I get up in the dark and fumble through my dresser with Milady still asleep, I pull my clothes out by flashlight. That's when I first noticed that the colors under LED are incredibly vibrant, almost florescent, compared to old yellowed Edison incandescents. It almost seems like being given new sight.

So, I've been thinking about those LED bulbs. Maybe someday when the closet full of hoarded incandescents gets low...

It's just like someone in the news said the other day, it's a good thing we had the incandescents banned because it encouraged all this variety of other choices.

An Anne Arundel County police officer is charged with assault after Baltimore police said he bit another man's testicles during a fight outside a Canton bar on Cinco de Mayo..

Michael Flaig, 31, a 10-year veteran officer with the Anne Arundel County police department was charged Tuesday night after he got into a fight with a man outside Looney's Pub, Baltimore police wrote in charging documents.

City police said the incident began when Flaig and the victim got into a fight outside in the 2900 block of O'Donnell Street. The victim said Flaig was groping his female roommate, and told him to stop, but Flaig refused. A copy of the report provided by Baltimore police redacted the victim's name.

137 real ch3: "I thought this never happened to white kids."

This is really horrible. Never, never, ever, call the cops to "teach your kid a lesson."

Have to note, though, that the father actually said his son was "turning his life around." Hoo-boy!

Long ago, I was arguing with my son outside our business, and cops got called. Son got charged with domestic violence for beating me up, despite me standing there telling the officer we were just loud, not physical. (I may have semi-playfully kicked son in the butt at one point, as we argued, but son took karate; could've kicked me in half if he'd been of a mind to.)

As a bonus, I got to see how the cops lie - initial report I saw in court said something about me lifting my pants leg to show where son'd kicked me - and even altered arrest reports - that part disappeared from the report later. All SOP, apparently, in Law Law Land.

But at least my son lived.

Not down on cops, generally. System sucks, on the whole, and I sympathize that domestic violence calls must be a prime driver of booze sales at cop bars. But some cops could do better.

The schools will have to close. Churches, who knows. My church is financially strong, and working on building a new physical structure, but we're also starting a ministry of home-based meetings. They'll come after those, too, of course.
If you mean public response, as in opinion, I don't see the current American public caring a whole heck of a lot.

Granted, they'll find out really fast who's been feeding, clothing, and housing the poor, fixing up neighborhoods, counseling the hopeless, keeping jails and prisons from getting worse, etc., but they'll just expect Uncle Sugar to fill the gap.

Being a cradle Catholic, I agree. The USCCB rolled over for Obamacare - only to find it biting them in the ass when abortion came into the mix.
We, Catholics nay all of us Christians, need to stand up and grow a pair. God helps those who help themselves. While prayer is an important part of one's life, doesn't anybody think that the petitions we send up to God Almighty are answered by Him saying "Get up off your duff, stand up for what you believe in!!!!"??

194 Y'know what? We never set the clocks forward this Spring.

In years past, I've done this on my truck. This year we went all-in. We keep saying, this is silly, we should adjust the clocks. But we haven't.

Oh, sure, the computers and cells all advanced themselves automatically. But the mantle clock, the microwave, the coffee maker, the clocks in the cars, all the ones that would have to be hand-re-set? They're still on Central Standard Time.

For me, while DST is in effect, the morning thread goes up (sometimes) around 4am.

Some observations from this experiment:

Milady and I have to go through mental and verbal gyrations every time one even asks the other, what time is it: "It's Noon, sun time."

To go from home to town is to drive into another time zone.

Have to remind visitors who need to leave by a certain time that our clocks are "wrong."

We have to remember that even though our clock says it's almost 8pm, liquor stores in Oklahoma are about to close because they think it's 9.

Mind games lonely old 'retired' pharts can play? Yeah. But, if one household does it, we're kooks. If two households do it, we're a club. But if three! if three households quit changing over to DST, it's a Movement.

The Daylight Saving Time Resistance Movement wants homes and businesses to join us in defeating this diabolical violation of true timekeeping, by simply adhering to God's Time (as adjusted locally for time zone continuity). "This Business Keeps Standard Time" window posters available from the DSTRM CafePress shop.

By next year, this could be viral!

Or maybe Milady and I will just reset our clocks.

Interesting enough - MA passed a law requiring all adoption agencies in the state to allow adoptions to gay couples. Catholic Charities ran a large adoption agency in that state. Law passed, they tried to force the issue with Catholic Charities. Catholic Charities ended up closing down their adoption agency instead.

Hooray for them for standing up. But we need MORE of this. Regrettably though, it is those of whom we are called to serve that suffer from these tyrannical decrees.

Quite true, FS. And I'm speaking as a lapsed Catholic, myself. But I will observe that, where money is concerned (and losing tax-exempt status concerns a lot of money), it's amazing how quickly a process can move.

200 "God helps those who help themselves" is not actually in the Bible but you probably knew that It's a maxim written by Ben Franklin, I think. The Bible says repeatedly that God helps those who are helpless. Of course there is no contradiction between praying and following one's conscience as Christian and certainly people should stand up for their dearest held beliefs. There are certainly people who have aligned themselves with powers and principalities that stand up for their dangerous/destructive beliefs.

I had a science teacher -- sixth or seventh grade -- who brought in a little hand powered generator. He dared the guys in the class to hold a wire in each hand, then he'd crank it. Of course I had to do it, but I wasn't the first. Couldn't let go, dropped right to my knees. Eyes watered. Maybe 30 seconds.

Somebody ratted him out, end of manhood challenge. To me, who went on to a career working with electricity, it was a valuable lesson.

Wat it really means is the socialists are in charge and are transforming whatever it is conform to the new progressive standard.

And when the reason you have it is gophers, prairie dogs, and the occasional coyote, it works just fine.

People keep trying to compare Deflategate to the Saints' bounty program, or even the Pats' spying thing.

A better comparison I think, would be the George Brett pine tar incident from eons ago. Yes, it's against the rules, but nobody was doing anything to enforce it, and it was never a big deal, until it became a big deal, mainly due to who it involved.

So fine, go ahead and give Tom a slap-on-the-wrist punishment, even though you STILL have no proof he did anything wrong, but since it takes people's minds off NFL players who beat up women and children... for a little while at least. Apparently Gloria Alred is getting involved with the chick who accused Ray Washington and now Ahmad Brooks of sexual assault. This should be fun.

An AR lower costs around $100ish after tax, transfer fees etc. And as we all know, BATFEIEIO considers an AR lower to be a complete firearm, regulation-wise.

Any tax credit above $150-200 makes for a damned good incentive to buy lowers and turn them in.

CA DoJ loves to play that game too. What's funny is that their drones aren't too smart, so they get maneuvered into corners all the time. Yep. No one would agree to , oh I don't know, LIMITING the food items one can buy with food stamps? Seems like ever 7-11 and fast food joint nowadays has a "We Accept EBT" sign in the window. Thank you Fenelon-that was absolutely beautiful, and some interesting information I did not know about Amazing Grace.

Chik-Fil-A is hard to find in my neck of the woods (City of Fairfax, VA) one in Fair Lakes, the other in the most difficult part of Fairfax to negotiate. I think the city "fathers" did that on purpose, to try to screw with the company, but every time I have gone there, it has been packed. And yes, they are the friendliest, most polite workers in fast food I have encountered. We went to McDonald's yesterday, and got flipped off in the drive through line, because we were behind some slow people. Then the workers showed their complete lack of concern with customers, by forgetting basic things like straws for drinks. Sadly, it is closer and more easily negotiable. But I think we will get some hate chicken from now on, just because.
