Megyn went all out for Huck's announcement last night. More like a Huckabee infomercial, complete with his baby pictures and warm hearted stories of his life. This was then followed by a Luntz-style panel asking him questions where he babbled meaningless platitudes. Between that, and the beating Geller took from everyone at Fox, including Hume, O'Reilly and sadly, even Laura Ingraham, I was thoroughly disgusted.

And I keep reading this one, but it just doesn't compute: Senators on Tuesday blocked any future attempts to override President Obama's veto of a union election law. Senators voted 96-3 on a motion to table the president's veto message, essentially killing any further attempts to formally override the veto. Republicans blasted Democrats after the vote, suggesting they blocked the Senate from being able to formally attempt a veto override. Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) said "Democrats refuse to allow the Senate to vote on overriding the veto. I voted with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to table the motion," he said in a statement. Meanwhile Comrades, the microphone in your Corn Flakes box is here to stay: The Senate isn't getting any closer to reforming the nation's spying laws or reauthorizing expiring portions of the Patriot Act with fewer than three legislative weeks left for lawmakers to do so. On Tuesday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) would not pledge to take up legislation called the USA Freedom Act, which is expected to gain broad support in the House next week. Instead, McConnell indicated that the starting point for his chamber would be legislation he and Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Richard Burr (R-N.C.) introduced to make a "clean" extension of the existing law for five years, which he would open up for amendments. Civil libertarians have focused on the June 1 deadline as their best chance to rein in what they consider to be invasive government surveillance. But defenders of the NSA, including Republican leadership, say that allowing the provisions to expire would effectively handicap a crucial arm of America's national security. http://tinyurl.com/ooksshy Posted by: Laurie David's Cervix at May 06, 2015 08:45 AM (kdS6q) 88

So how bout some moral equivilance from some Dallas area muzzies to fuel your rage today?
""This is the exposure that they wanted and this is the divisiveness that they wanted to bring," said Omar Suleiman, resident scholar at the Valley Ranch Islamic Center in Irving, a Dallas suburb with a sizable Islamic community. "We condemn obviously the attack in the strongest terms, and we are glad that the police officer is OK," Suleiman added. "This is what extremists on both sides want: whether it's Geller or whether it's ISIS. They want this all-out war. That's not what we're about."" Hey, Omar? Fuck off. Geller, not Gellar, right? Or is this some AoSHQ stylebook thing? I read someone saying one is Geller one is Gellar, but I have no idea what that boob was talking about.
Jammie's quote from NY Daily News was sickening. But, to paraphrase a different headline, another enemy self-identifies. Who's keeping the list for the burning times? The ones I can't quite figure are the Hebdo survivors who are hating on Geller. Non-survivors unavailable for comment. If piss christ had inspired equivalent response from some Christian Militia cult, no one would be blaming Mapplethorpe. The religions of "kill the infidel" and "love your enemy"* inherently cannot co-exist. *(Love one's enemy, I say, even if you have to gun them down before they can attack a crowd. "Bless you, son. Better citizens would surely help. Better policing would certainly help. Let's assume I am wrong and you are right in the interpretation. Baltimore's murder rate has been well above the national average for years. I'm sure that's the result of excellent policing. Right? Baltimore PD has had a long history of being overly confrontational in the wrong circumstances and not confrontational when it is certainly called for. Like most big city police forces, they're in the pocket of the Dems (and the union, BIRM). That means they tend to ignore bad behavior by the Dem's pet constituencies and instead go full Ravage on people who least deserve it. At best, they found a knife with a spring-assisted blade on him, which isn't illegal under Maryland law and, according to the portion of the city code they posted in the article, isn't even illegal under the City code. Also, what's the source indicating that they arrested him on an outstanding warrant? Honest question, I haven't seen anything that says he had an outstanding warrant, just previous arrests. Further, the police themselves have stated that the reason they chased and arrested him was because he saw them and ran. Running from the police, without anything else, isn't criminal activity. Running from the police, without anything else, isn't criminal activity. That was my take, too, but someone here linked a LegalInsurrection piece about how the pursuit and arrest can be justified under Terry. Which is still bullshit, but it's the current state of the law. I don't get how so many people here are happy that a guy who was not committing a crime ended up arrested and dead. --- Because Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton are upset that he ended up arrested and dead, and we just have to be on the opposite side of everything always forever. Fenelon Spoke: "The power of persevering prayer"
Thanks for following up from last thread. Opening that link in bg tab to read. Read read read. The thread's over 100 (as I start this) and I'm up to #7. I remember now how hard it is to type and read at the same time on a busy thread. ♥ Fen, re persistence: I often think of that father with his epileptic and demon-infested son (I think the kid had both) who came to Jesus begging for healing. The father, who had watched his son suffer for so long, must have followed Jesus and the gang around until he tracked them down. He was then teased by the apostles' failure to help the boy. Even after Jesus arrives, the father has to wait while Jesus goes through his chiding the apostles. Even then, at the very gates of healing, the Dad is admonished by Jesus to have more faith, until he's in tears. (That magnificent line about "I do believe! Help my unbelief!" Mk 9) If everything was set down from the Beginning, immutably, what is free will? why pray? Even whether one believes or not, it's all set and settled, some are chosen and some are not... that's the Calvinistic stuff, isn't it? as well as the hopeless determinism of materialism. Why would we ever bother sneaking up to touch the hem of the Lord's robe, or get our friends to lower us down through the roof? Otherwise, we are not just creations, but really are given the chance to be co-creators. Like all things in time and space, we have to work on it, though. It doesn't really matter externally, I hope, because Jesus isn't physically around to go visit lately. Rather, as Jesus advised the woman who touched his robe, it's internal. Outward motion can inSpire us, but persistence, within, completes the journey. (Reminds me of the army training video I posted this morning. The powers that be are rooting for you when you fall, cheering you on, but you have to get up and cross that finish line on your own.) https://youtu.be/g6x2guhVu_w /random religious musing Ah, now I've missed even more comments. Ohio in a long time, but my understanding is that the touchstone is there must be a reasonable, articulable suspicion of involvement in a crime for the infamous "Terry stop" to pass Constitutional muster. In theory, it's not supposed to be based on the subjective belief of the officer(s) involved, but an objective standard. Otherwise the police would have free rein to stop and frisk everybody on a whim. Posted by: Insomniac at May 06, 2015 09:20 AM (2Ojst) 186

Hillary Clinton is the favorite U.S. presidential candidate among millionaire voters and would win a head-to-head contest with former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, according to the third CNBC Millionaire Survey conducted in March that was released today.

But I do not know what if any crimes he may have been arrested for because no information is being released save for information from the prosecution. Hi, MWW
Thanks, as always for your thoughts. I was trying to link to the actual section of the whole book which is the sixteenth lesson-"The power of persevering prayer." I'm not really a Cavinistic. I weren't to a Calvinistic seminary but they didn't confer me t I go along with John Wesley who said something like, "Predestination is a pernicious doctrine." (No offense to the Calvinists here. It's just something we can disagree on). Our focus- whatever our particular slant of Christianity should be "Looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfecter of our faith." I think God being omniscient is not the same as determining beforehand who is going to be saved and who is not. The purpose of prayer, IMO is to so that God's will can become our will as far as possible in this life, so that we might become more like Christ, that God be glorified and that his Son be magnified and yes, like growth in anything it takes persistence. There's a whole lot of depth to the Lord's prayer that we don't get when we just say it by rote at church. Murray's book covers that too. I like your thoughts particularly your last paragraph and thanks for the video. Please pray for me. I want to glorify God in the place he has called me to, and my life is changing soon. Grace and peace be with you. Posted by: FenelonSpoke at May 06, 2015 09:33 AM (MeuoO) 221

Cops are people, they act based on their experiences/expectations. If Baltimore Cop "A" knows that 99% of the time he sees a heroin dealer fleeing at the sight of a police car, then he probably has a warrant or is in the midst of committing another crime, then that experience would lead him to pursue, no? How that fits the legal framework in this case, I don't know yet, but the Cops reaction to a fleeing known felon seems natural enough to me. Certainly not malevolent or racist.
