Exercise Equipment 2: Humans 0:

SurveyMonkey CEO David Goldberg died of severe head trauma in an exercise accident in the Mexican resort town of Punta Mita, a Mexican state official said Monday. Goldberg, husband of Facebook executive Sheryl Sandberg, was found lying next to a treadmill on Friday at a resort in Punta Mita near Puerto Vallarta on Mexico's Pacific coast.

The official said he left his room at about 4 p.m. to exercise, and family members went to look for him after he didn't return. He was found at about 6:30 p.m. in a gymnasium lying by a treadmill in a pool of blood, with a blow to the lower back of his head. He apparently had slipped on the treadmill and hit the machine, said the official.

22 Morning, 'rons and 'ronettes.

Usually, when I'm stuck for a story, I can always count on findnig an anecdote about the omnisexual actress Tallulah Bankhead. So here's one that's obliquely about her:

It seems that, in 1948, Time was preparing a cover story on Bankhead, and, in their usual fashion, interviewed everyone they could find concerning the truth about her sexual escapades. They finally got in touch with Bankhead's press agent, Irving Hoffman, but he was very guarded, not wanting to admit anything that might backfire on the lady.

"Well, let me ask you this," the Timesman pressed. "Have you ever made it with her?"

"She'll kill me if she hears I said it,"
answered Hoffman, whispering, "but the answer is. . .no."

Here's the Time cover:

http://goo.gl/wZN81O

Not a very attractive picture, is it? Here's a portrait of her from 1929:

http://goo.gl/IWlrZ4

Hope you all have a wonderful day.

69 No way was Excalibur the film debut of Helen Mirren. She was in Caligula two years earlier. Topless.

Every time you pick up an Ian Fleming novel, you think "This is crazy schlock. None of this could ever happen." Then, it happens. It's like the Bond-villains read the novels too. That would certainly account for the career of George Soros.

And one mentions this because? It was filmed twice: James Bond was sent to a health spa, and nearly murdered on [or "by," ablative of agency] the equipment there. Ian Fleming, prophet. Ask about Navassa Island!

84 Speaking of dying in Mexico, I realized the best thing you can do for your family's financial future, if you contract cancer or some other fatal disease, is to go to Mexico or some other third-world country to die.

If you die here the County Cororner issues a Death certificate. The SSA is notified and your SS benefits die too. If you die in Mexico, your family can enjoy your Old Age Pension for, who knows, decades.

I'm remembering this off the top of my head, J.J., so it might not be Cromwell, but there's a story about Sir Alec Guinness reciting a long speech in a movie and then, in the middle of it, pausing for effect before going on. Later, he was interviewed and asked what made him think of adding such a dramatic pause to the speech?

118 OK Morons, I started my new job a week ago, and today I am making the dreaded 401K picks.

I figure I will retire around 2040, and I usually mix my 401K about 2/3 conservative stable funds and 1/3 riskier small cap/emerging markets.

Just want to know what funds anyone likes. Fidelity has given me 37 to choose from. I've stuck with Magellan for years and it's done all right. I like the Causeway and Fidelity emerging markets funds.

What do you guys think?

Anyone except Monty is welcome to chime in; I already know his investment picks - dried food, ammo, and gifts to appease the Humungous - and I've got those covered.

132 Israel used both Hurricanes and Me109's. Equal opportunity. They also a "a" B-17, and some B-25 Mitchells, enough for the conservative novelist Mark Helprin (not that other Helprin) to develop a lifelong hatred for them while serving in IDF AF.

The Navassa Island Affair was a little historical embarrassment that involved a remote guano island, government contractors, and slave labor after the Civil War. There can be little doubt that Fleming thought up Dr No from the mystery of it. His family's bank, heavily into US railroads that were flush with investment at the time, had confidential agents looking for fast money deals throughout the hemisphere...at the time. He may have heard the tale at his great-uncle's knee.

After "journalism," Nellie Bly became president of the Iron Clad Manufacturing Co., inventors of the 55-gallon steel drum. So she had an eventual effect on Caribbean music, as well. She personally invented the nesting garbage can. Had to return to WWI journalism when embezzlement bankrupted her firm.

Yeah, not an easy question to answer. The term "deep cleaning" can mean many things. If needed, and if done properly, it can be a useful treatment. It really comes down to do you need it? Will it be done properly? Or is it just being done to collect a fee for you. I'd have to see you, the degree of inflammation or pocketing, and the X-rays. I know that's not a big help to you. Bottom line, if you trust your Dentist, then yeah it's probably worth it. What is the charge?

258 So, my girlfriend and I made that old-time boiled plum pudding. The recipe was published in 1806, but it was already an old one by then.

Making a plum pudding is some hard-core cooking. Who wouldn't want to plop a huge glob of ingredients into a bag and plunge it into a vat of boiling death for 4 hours?

It's not pudding like we think of it. More like a bread pudding with lots of raisons (no plums in plum pudding, but that's another story).

You eat it hot with a spoonful of molasses mixed in.

It's very rich (well hell, it has suet as one of the main ingredients!), very sweet and very, very filling. I can see why it was a popular break from hardtack and salt pork on the long trans-oceanic voyages of the day. That stuff would fill you up for a whole day or two!

271 I just read about Joss Whedon getting grief from the feminazis.

From high atop his enormous pile of money.

The thing about the feminists and the SJWs is that they are very good at complaining. Less so on explaining how their "world" would work. "Raising awareness" and "empowering women" are western buzzterms that have no real practical meaning.

272 Got coyotes coming up too close to the house - dog and cats are getting nervous. Also, I'd like to get a good rifle and have some fun. What would be a good minimum caliber for a one-shot kill on a coyote?

Depends on the size of the coyote. In Texas, some of ours only get to 70-80 lbs.
Also depends on the range and bullet placement.

.17 HR, .22 Mag, .22-250, .223, .243, .270, .308, 30-30.
For fun and games, 30-06.

Pretty much whatever strikes your fancy other than a .22lr.

Posted by: rickb223 Straight, Conservative Clinger at May 05, 2015 08:37 AM (9PlD2)

273 You only need a .22 for our 'yotes.

The best ones were those that I let age for a few months to a year in the frig. And dumping some rum or bourbon or rum and bourbon on top once a month or so.

Once you know the drill pretty walleye can add whatever dried fruit you like- one with golden raisins, did blueberries and cranberries cam out awfully tasty.

Then serve at Christmas dinner hot and steaming with lots of rum butter.

Yum.

285 The Left has been giving us the image of being violent for years now. They believe it, but the don't really, because they're afraid to criticize Islam but not Christianity, Republicans, Tea Partiers, etc.

They've parrotted the mantra that their LiVs are primed to believe it, even if they know at the core it isn't true.

Obama's been playing on that since he went into office, calling his political opponents racists, terrorists, etc. That was all about setting up support for a brutal response if we get uppity-- he's scapegoating us, basically, but his non-thinker base already have been brainwashed into believing it.

330 Dear brothers and sisters in Christ.

Thanks so much, and God bless for your willingness to pray. Our church is doing a prayer vigil from 9:00 Saturday night the 9th to 9:00 Sunday morning the 10th EST. Three young people as well as an adult are confessing faith in Christ and joining the church. People are taking slots for the vigil and one of them which is open is 11:00 p.m. Saturday, and also anytime from 1:00 to 4:30 but you may not want to be up then. ;^) We have a small church and lot of the folks are elderly so they won't be up in the wee hours.

The names of the kids are Christopher, Hanna and Samantha and the adult is Kristie. Of course you may all of been praying longer than I have and I don't claim to be an expert, but there are some suggestions I have given to the folks praying to keep us all on track. "How to pray for other Christians". And if you can't pray for all of that time any time would be a blessing:

1. Express thanks for new faith and changed lives and that they might grow in faith (Col 1:3)

2. Ask God to help them know what He wants them to do and to give them deep spiritual understanding (Col 1:9)

3. Ask God to give them knowledge of God's love (Eph. 3:16-(29)?

4. Ask God to fill them with steadfastness and perseverance 2nd Thess 3:5

5. Ask God to give them wisdom and spiritual power (Eph 1:18-20)

6. Ask God to fill them with joy, strengthen and thankfulness (Colossians 1:11)

I told them that I would ask some Christians I know around the country to pray and they were so excited by that!

332 I have a Savage .17. I like it, as a "squirrel gun." Slightly more crack-of-the-rifle than your typical .22, which I put down to velocity. Less "kick" if you can call it that than at .22mag. Shoots real flat. I'd use it on groundhogs, but not coyotes. It's long-range, so not your ideal garden gun in the suburbs.

I had two bachelor uncles, so became a fast expert on cleaning services. Go for the ones who specialize in crime scenes. The more they look like Harvey Keitel, the better. Actually met a couple hot chicks part-timing in that trade, people who'd never lower themselves to being a Rent-A-Maid. Even though that's basically what they were doing, except usually with gore and body parts.
