Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | BREAKING NEWS-Possible terrorist attack in Texas [Weirddave]Most of this is coming from Breitbart Texas: Armed police officers rushed in to the Mohammed Art Exhibit and Contest and quickly removed Pamela Geller and whisked her away to safety after a gunfight erupted outside of the event. A law enforcement officer and two suspects are reportedly down, according to police on the scene. Three Breitbart Texas reporters are locked down inside of the event. The officers on the scene said that possible explosives were found. The extrication of Geller occurred during a live video interview with Breitbart Texas. Not much beyond that. Geller is safe, Wounded cop is in the hospital and expected to recover, the attackers are still lying where they fell pending clearance by the bomb squad. It's unknown what their religious affiliation is at this point, but I doubt that they were Mormons. ETA:

Humanitarian: They can read? Who knew
Yanno, that's actually funny, given that most Muslims can't read Arabic. Most Muslims from Pakistan, Indonesia, Iran and - when it comes down to it - North Africa can't understand wtf the Qur'an even says. They're taught to memorise it. Not to understand it. Their imams tell them what to understand. And even if they did understand classical Arabic, they'd only be understanding Qur'anic Arabic with the "help" of commentaries like Ibn Kathir's. ??? They have an odd definition of success. Posted by: Lauren at May 03, 2015 09:51 PM (aZHrU) I thought the same thing myself. For the most part, the west is back to sleep snuggled in their bed with dreams of petty, useless triviatta. 9/11 woke people up for a spell, but they were lulled back into complacency pretty quickly. These types of incidents do little but make people aware that the long war is still in the offing. So, strategically, how does this help the jihadist? I think it is because they want us to consider them a serious threat. For the most part, the west has ignored them. There are few graver insults one can levy against someone who hates you other than to not even acknowledge they exist. Possible the only upside to our current sleepy-time approach to foreign policy. They revere Mohammed as the perfect man. That's why if Mohammed did it, Muslims can do it. Amazingly I started out thinking all of the anti-Islam propaganda was nuts. I found out it wasn't. There was/is a Coptic priest in Egypt that drove the Muzzies nuts because he would point out things that the Imans couldn't refute like you could be alone with a female non-relative if you suckled from her. Posted by: Not Loved Time to be Feared at May 03, 2015 09:45 PM (nRvEn) It's a bit more than that, in my experience. They really treat Mohommad like God. If you can drill down on to whom it is they think they're speaking when they sholat, many will admit that they think they're addressing Mohammad. Between Mo and Allah, Mo has at least some hope of being approachable--and of course, the problem with revering someone to the point that you'll shove a bomb in your colon to teach a lesson to people who don't believe what he said, is that you've pretty much deified him by that point. It's pretty much past the nuance stage. Also, they object to idols in general, which point Muslims have been making, again with violence, since the 600's. Any image of a religious figure can and will be construed as an idol. Posted by: TexasDan at May 03, 2015 10:38 PM (+fJ+k) 432

What is sort of ironic about it is that a few months back there was a bit of a furor over a pro-Islam group who had rented a Garland ISD building for a pro-Muslim gathering there. No one was shot during that but apparently if they offer equal time to an anti-Muslim group them's shootin' words. Eh.

Posted by: BurtTC at May 03, 2015 10:37 PM (Dj0WE) I agree with you in theory. However, the big thing about drawing Mohammed is that everyone has gone so bonkers about tiptoeing around Islam these days. When Muslims shoot up a bunch of cartoonists, the news organs covering the atrocity censor out the images that they committed the acts over. They are not Islamic, and I think we all know how most news organs cover things dealing with Christian sensibilities (they use them to wipe their feet.) This is defacto a surrender to the very terror they are trying to instill and an acceptance of their will. Holding an event like this is a very tacit response to such an idea. "No, we will not surrender to your ideology and furthermore we will spit in your face." "NUTS!" as a better man once said. Posted by: Aetius451AD at May 03, 2015 10:49 PM (iHjB5) 509

Obviously, Kent State was Bush's fault.
Posted by: Pappy O'Daniel On the evening of May 3rd in Kent, Ohio, there were huge crowds of "protesters" roaming the streets. The ROTC building was set on fire and burned to the ground. The fire department could not get to it, and local law enforcement for Kent was out numbered. The local State Highway patrol commander on the seen reported to the Governor (Jim Rhodes) that the police had lost control of the situation and the town, and the lives of the people of Kent were in danger. The National Guard was mobilized and sent to Kent Sat. May 4th, to restore order. They were assaulted by rocks, bottles, etc. by a large crowds of protesters. This had been a widely advertised event by the anti-war movement, and thousands of people from outside of Kent had arrived for the "protest". "Free Speech" had nothing to do with what happened that weekend. Posted by: Bossy Conservative....lost in America at May 03, 2015 10:58 PM (+1T7c) 560

Posted by: Splunge at May 03, 2015 10:57 PM (qyomX) ------- Freedom of speech is only relevant in terms of government power. There is no obligation for anyone to provide a platform. As stated better than i could at the moment, a writer on the Federalist website states: "One big modern error in interpreting freedom of speech and press comes from not treating it as freedom from government shielding itself against public examination of public concerns through use of criminal libel or license but as a right to be heard or seen. Newspapers were never under any obligation to publish whatever someone had to say no more than a university or town was viewed obligated to provide a public soapbox. It is all about government and its agents subjectively determining what speech or publication it considers defamation against government and punishing such without truth being a defense."
