1 Good Morning Morons. Today is Thursday, April 30, 2015. On this day in 1789 on the balcony of Federal Hall on Wall Street in New York City, George Washington took the oath of office to become the first elected President of the United States. Note the existing building in NYC is not the original federal hall where Washington was inaugurated.

In governing news, the party of lower taxes:

Ssen Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) who chairs the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, has assembled a bipartisan rump group around a proposal to empower states to collect sales taxes from online sellers outside their borders. At the same time, a loose coalition of retailers, state officials and allied groups is trying to rally support for the plan in both chambers of Congress.

Retailers and others are coalescing behind Chaffetz because of House Republican resistance to the main online sales tax bill in the Senate (S 69, sponsored by Budget Chairman Michael B. Enzi, R-Wyo. A similar measure passed the Senate easily in 2013 but died in the House.

Meanwhile, back at the California University system:

UC Riverside's recent decision to stop selling the Sabra brand of hummus owned by an Israeli company because of a student groups request was a mistake, school officials said Wednesday.

The bad had been in response to a letter sent to the schools vice president of internal affairs and student government leaders. Students for Justice in Palestine said campus restaurants selling Sabra brand hummus violated the university's "Tartan Soul", a reference to the values associated with campus mascot Scotty Highlander.

61 Morning, 'rons and 'ronettes. Thanks for the news, Vic.

Here's a Tony Curtis story:

After the war, Curtis studied acting at the New School in Greenwich Village, where one of his classmates was Walter Matthau. As it turned out, Curtis was the first to be snapped up by Hollywood.

It was a cold, rainy New York day, and Matthau, drenched to the skin, was wearily waiting for a bus when he heard someone call, "Wally - hey, Wally!" Looking around, Matthau saw Curtis waving to him from the back of a long, elegant limousine. Leaving his place in line, Matthau loped over to the car.

"Well, hi, Bernie," he smiled. "What's new?"*

Curtisflashed a wolfish grin. "I just fucked Yvonne DeCarlo!"

And with a laugh, he rolled up the window and drove off, leaving Matthau to wilt in the rain.

Here's the Ronald Reagan fan Miss DeCarlo (born Margaret Yvonne Middleton) in her first big success, 1945s Salome, Where She Danced:

Hope you all have a wonderful day.

Well, I'm no expert in the politics of the Roman Curia, but I put some of the blame on Benedict's shoulders, for not speaking out and putting the smack down on some of Francis' idiocy. Sitting in silence while the Church is hijacked to further socialism is just as bad as actively aiding it, IMO.

When Tony was first hitting his stride, he took his father - an old Hungarian Jewish man - to a swanky Hollywood party. Tony introduced his dad to John Huston, and when the father extended his hand to the director he said, solidly "Schwartz." John Huston said, "Oh, Mr. Curtis, it's nice to meet you but why did you change your name? It was so beautiful."

The truth -- or untruth -- of teh Croozer's comment isn't the issue. In fact, I tend to be in agreement with it.

Scientists Find New Dinosaur With Bat-Like Wings

Among newly discovered, 160-million-year-old, fossils in northeastern China is one of Yi qi. a pigeon-sized dinosaur without feathered wings. Instead, Yi qi has a long bone extending from the wrist, which resembles the structure of bat wings.

Listen, douche, we know Freddie died of a broken neck.

We DON'T know how his neck was broken. Most of us would rather find out how it happened and if (read that again: if) any inappropriate force was used before we condemn en masse an entire city's police department.

Pre-supposing inappropriate force, we'd then like to see the judicial system work though the issue with all appropriate trials, juries, verdicts, et al.

What we DON'T want to see, support, condone or accept is a select populace deciding it already knows everything, has all the facts and has taken upon itself the full and sole roles of judge, jury and executioner.

No one's saying Freddie deserved to die. No one's saying that unnecessary death at the hands of the police is acceptable. What we're saying is: 'let the facts come out before we start lighting shit on fire.'

If that's in any way unclear or confusing, I respectfully suggest that Mrs. Krabappel's class might be a better place for you to continue your education.

85 Serious question: Has anybody ever heard of anybody ever getting a job by completing a govt. "job training program" Because I have seen that solution to urban problem trotted out about 10,000 times the last 30 years and have never met a single working person that mentioned completing one of those training programs.

During the Reagan years -- when employment was skyrocketing -- my state had some sort of subsidy to train workers. I had to personally device a training schedule that would take someone from unknowledgeable to competent in something like eight to twelve weeks. We paid about half, the state paid the other half of the persons salary. At the end of that time the apprentice was actually pretty decent.

Then he got into drugs and became a nightmare. Factory was buzzing, productivity at an alltime high, and he would 'no call, no show' over and over again.

101 Please-The Pope will not destroy the church . Don't you think that in the entire history of the Papacy there haven't been bad Popes-if you consider this Pope one of them? There haven't been big crises in the papacy? Com'on now Think Avignon and the great schism. Matthew 16:18 says "on this rock I will build my church and gates of hell will not prevail against it." You really shouldn't have a Protestant pastor tell you this. ;^) but go to someone Catholic (Bannion?) who is studying to be a Permanent Deacon.

From this Protestant'sperspective, "on this rock I will build my church" means Peter's declaration that Jesus is the Messiah-the chosen one of God is the rock and the church is made up of people who profess that and desire to live as his disciples. practicing submission to God and desire to be transformed into the image of Christ.

Guys-Ask for the Holy Spirit to give you spiritual strength and practice those disciples to aid in that. You RC's also have a whole lot of Saints you can ask to pray for you and the church and is not Mary considered the patron of the Americas?

You should easily be able to prove your claim that people don't injure themselves. If you can't prove that, then you should be able to easily prove Freddie Gray was not trying to injure himself.

If you can't prove that, then - and I'm just spitballing here - perhaps you should wait, with the rest of us, for the facts to come out.

You've taken a fact - Freddie Gray died from a broken neck suffered while in police custody - and added an assumption - The police must have directly caused or created conditions which allowed this injury - to reach your conclusion.

Refusing to acknowledge any other possibility, even when faced with people making claims which would impact the conclusions of a rational person, is nota sign of intelligence.

In white society, if Freddy was white, a drug dealer and user, multiple convictions, hanging out in our neighborhood, either buying or selling drugs, would we give one fuck about him? One of the commonly offered street ideas is that Freddies spine was severed during the initial arrest, as the video recordings show the Officers holding him down with a knee to the upper back area, and his legs being limp while being dragged to the wagon for transport.

These inconsistencies are clear indicators that a full investigation into the events is required, prior to anyone assuming that they know "The Truth" full

Ok, I'll leave a summary comment. The reality, an already present situation, or "dominant" narrative of Baltimore arestees with broken necks from "rough rides" in police vans is undisputed. It has happened several times, been found to have been the cause of death or permanent paralysis, and both civil and criminal penalties assessed in the recent past, and going back many years. To all the blustery ad hominem replies I've gotten from the emotionally charged "morons": I don't know that Freddie May was injured by a "rough ride". It's possible, and given how closely it matches past cases, logic dictates "probable".... It is *possible* he was trying to hurt himself to get some painkillers. However, IT IS NOT PROBABLE. Jail doesn't work that way. It would have been q bad gamble for him, and he would have KNOWN THAT from being through the system. It's also not PROBABLE he threw himself around the van and managed to do it hard enough to BREAK HIS OWN NECK...... Ultimately, if you believe that, you lack critical thinking skills, have insufficient deductive logic capability, or having been drinking whiskey with your coffee. /i win

President Obama will announce an initiative involving the private sector that aims to expand access to digital content to low-income students, according to the White House. The Obama administration marshaled* major book publishers to provide more than $250 million in free e-books to low-income students.

148 We all remember Bill Clinton at a funeral laughing and smiling, then -- realizing a camera is on him -- puts his head down and acts somber?

Freddy Gray. The drug dealing parasite of society knew what he was doing. Apologists for him are little better.

149 I remember a Baltimore city bus being involved in a vehicle accident.
By the time it was over, more then 350 people had been seen by medical facilities for injuries they claimed to have received while riding that 55 passenger bus.
That was one of the major reasons why video cameras were installed on MTA busses.
Not for safety, but to protect the city from false lawsuits.

150 Freddy had also just received some of that sweet lawsuit settlement money from the city concerning a Lead Paint Exposure lawsuit which both he and his twin sister Frederica had won.

Freddy had apparently sold his $180,000.00 settlement paid over many years, to a firm for an upfront cash price of $18.000.00.

So Freddy had already tasted the fruits of Lawsuit winnings, and with the city having a long history of paying large amounts to settle Police Brutality claims....well, who knows.

The above, while based on factual events, supported by Court Records is pure speculation on my part, and has as much validity as dumbasses entire Probable vs Possible argument.

Now...can I have a cookie?

151 Will Sanders' campaign slogan be "A fried chicken in every pot" or would that be racist?

Or am I thinking of a different Sanders?

152 An off-duty femal police officer acting as a Walmart guard was stabbed 14 times in a surprise ambush attack by a black THUG who said he wants to get even for police brutality against blacks. I blame the MFM, Holder, and Obama.

Check your privilege, Whitey.

153 Vic,

The church has survived during times of famine, persecution plague, wars, communism. They've gone underground when the church wasn't allowed. Again, The Scripture says Jesus says, "On this rock I will build my church and the gates of hell with not prevail against it." Do you have hope? Is it in -in the Lord Jesus and what the Bible says or someplace else?

If Roman Catholics or any other Christians are feeling hopeless about the state of the church than go to the one who established it-Jesus who promised to be with us always even unto the end of the age. Catholics have blessed spiritual resources-the Eucharist and confession, scripture and prayer. and great readings from Catholics saints and mystics and church fathers Catholics can go to Mass daily if their schedules allow. You have said you don't go to church. I'm not jugging you here-I'm just saying if you're RC you're missing out on those wonderful spiritual resources. Protestants have the Lor'd's Supper too. They have the Bible, prayer, fellowship with other believers, readings teachers of the faith some of whom spent years in jail because of their witness. I think you take a lot of time provide a great service here by providing news on every terrible thing that this administration is doing ;^) but frankly, if it were me I would be in a depressed heap on the floor if I didn't stand upon the Rock-Jesus Christ. Sorry if getting some "old time religion" here bothers you and I'm not trying too get into an argument but I look around-in the world in general and see people who are "functional Atheists" .
They can use religious language and say they believe in God but they don't look to him to do anything, but hope maybe some politician might.
get things straight. I find that a sad way of existing.

154 Amen, Fenelon.

Imagine the power of Jesus Christ if we held a coordinated prayer for the health of our country. We do an awful lot of opining on our blogs to vent, let's spend 60 seconds of that time together in prayer to The Almighty.
