Overnight Open Thread (4/26/15) [tmi3rd]

Hi there, Morons and Moronettes. I'm tmi3rd, and I'm your assigned host for this evening while Maetenloch is on assignment.

For Morons who are unfamiliar with me, I've been here for about a decade (!), and I usually post about hurricanes that are going to strike the continental US... ergo, you haven't seen much of me in the past eighteen months.

Anyway, we've got plenty of stuff for you this evening... let's dive in! More below the fold...

Let's get this party started...

Okay, which one of you was this?

Teen bitten on face while trying to kiss deadly snake

I read this and I was all...

Tyson.jpg

A Tampa teenager known by his friends for his love of snakes is recovering after his new pet denied his affection.

Austin Hatfield was bitten in the face by a water moccasin.

Tampa police said Hatfield caught the venomous snake in a pillowcase and kept it under his bed.

His friend claims that Hatfield kissed the snake 12 times, but on the 13th try, the 4-foot reptile struck back.

Since I couldn't even, I figured it was time for a different laugh...

Man 'has sex with tree, claims he is God and tried to stab cop with badge while high'

A man who allegedly had sex with a tree, told police officers he was God, shrugged off being tasered twice and tried to stab a cop with his own badge while on powerful drugs has been arrested.

Kenneth Crowder, of Melbourne, Florida, was tripping on flakka, a worrying new drug that authorities say is sweeping the state, police said.

According to a Melbourne police report, Crowder, 41, was spotted by witnesses running naked through a Melbourne neighborhood, yelling that he was a god before committing a sexual act on a tree.

seriously.jpg

Stuff like this makes me want to give up on humanity at times... but then I see stuff like this...

This was in the DFW area... this girl had been paralyzed from the waist down for eleven days, and stuff just started working again. Not going to pretend I have any idea how this happened, but I'm glad it did.

On a more personal note...

Ace is, of course, a do-not-miss on Twitter, and Saturday night, he was utterly incandescent in his remarks about the dysfunction of the interactions between the "three thirds" of this country- left, right, and center, for lack of a better term.

Here it is on Storify. Please read it, because he makes some excellent points (unsurprisingly).

Ace summarized it, essentially, as a marriage headed for a divorce, and his reasoning was (as usual) very sound... no matter who's elected president, one-third of the country will be driven utterly insane by it. The past couple of decades have demonstrated the truth of that statement.

He made the remark that he's tired of hating the left- it's too personally costly to hate them, and I've been personally impacted by it on both ends (as I imagine many of us have). Maybe it's better that we work out the details of the divorce so that we can be free of one another.

I think Ace may be- in fact, probably is- right on this, but this got me to thinking about why I went into what I did for a living (I'm working on getting my MD), and as my own views crystallized, I wanted to run this by you:

I do what I do for the same reason I'm not ready to give up on America... there are plenty of bad guys out there, and many live among us. But at the same time, there are a lot of good people among us, and many may have been led astray by some very nefarious types that genuinely qualify as Bad Guys.

They could win. We could lose. History is largely not on our side on this. But we don't have to lose. Do we need to break the cycle that's making things worse and making us spiral down? Of course we do, and that's going to be the real heavy lift.

I'm surrounded by kids on campus every day who are starting to realize they've been lied to and underinformed for a very long time. They're going to have to be gently led back to the path of liberty, but that's through no fault of their own. These are good kids who don't want to be wards of the state, but they need convincing to find their way back to the light.

As such, I want to impress on everyone reading this to encourage these kids, not berate them... I'm getting good results when I ask them what makes men most free. Find your sales pitch that doesn't beat these kids up and we can make our Garden of Freedom grow again. I hate to think that this chapter of history ends with the dissolution of the United States of America. That said, let me leave you with a quote from Robert Heinlein in Starship Troopers...

...'juvenile delinquent' is a contriction in terms. 'Delinquent' means 'failing in duty.' But duty is an adult virtue -- indeed a juvenile becomes an adult when, and only when, he acquires a knowledge of duty and embraces it as dearer than the self-love he was born with. There never was, there cannot be, a 'juvenile delinquent.' But for every juvenile criminal there are always one or more adult delinquents -- people of mature years who either do not know their duty, or who, knowing it, fail.

"And that was the soft spot which destroyed what was in many ways an admirable culture. The junior hoodlums who roamed their streets were symptoms of a greater sickness; their citizens (all of them counted as such) glorified their mythology of 'rights' ... and lost track of their duties. No nation, so constituted, can endure."

Be safe, my friends!

37 I agree with #9. What's missing from ACE's storify bit is the alimony.

I'm in a liberal church denomination where many of the same irreducible conflicts were named and the idea of some kind of gracious separation was floated... the liberals wouldn't have it because then they would have to go out and do some effective work instead of just living off of stuff that other people gathered.

That's going to be the biggest barrier to national separation - the group that feels like somebody leaving is taking something to which the group is entitled.

Surely you can do more than four. You should've seen some of the "hour of power" times we had on deployment. Those are times that you just got done with a 10 hour mission (plus 5 hours of preflight and post flight) and as you are on your way back to the barracks, you find out that you have another flight the next day and it is 13 hours from preflight. No booze 12 hours prior so you have one hour. We'd get a couple of cases of beer on the way and whoever had the closest room, hosted the hour of power.

61 If the last 250 years teaches us anything, about politics, it's that the
left will no, in fact cannot, let you go your separate way.

It is a pseudo-religious dogmatism that demands obedience of all.

Your existence as a holder of a different ideal, they believe, threatens them.

If
you managed to carve up territories, break up families and communities,
and ended up on opposite sides of a wall, pretty quickly they would
collapse and you would end up, if you were lucky, with divisive internal
conflicts again.

I know I'm playing the role of Eeyore here, but
one of my little kind-of sort-of specialties is history, which is
unkind to the idea that you can go your separate way and the crabs in
the bucket won't pull you back in.

History is pretty depressing, actually.

I think we have to keep fighting.

I
recognize that fight has changed in ugly ways over the last 50-100
years. It's possible that violence is inevitable (we already have
sporadic political violence in this country).

I'm just hoping the
"good guys" survive, forget about winning for a second. We are rapidly
approaching the point where there's no place and no way to hide.

...

Just thought I'd cheer everyone up.

However, we do need to realize that not all liberals are Leftists; most are actually just useful idiots. Whatever "Hope and Change" lies the Left spurts into their mouths, they will swallow.

And I am sorry there will not be a peaceful divorce with the Left because they will not allow it. Statism cannot allow the freedom to go your own way peacefully. All the walls and machine gun posts around Leftist nations attest to this.

Always find it interesting that the areas that produce energy in the US are looked down on those whose lives and livelihoods depend on cheap and dependable energy.

Do you think they wouldn't infiltrate, their universities wouldn't poison the minds of children? How many corporations would knuckle under to demands to refuse to do business, and how many pension funds and university trusts would be pressured to "divest", a la Israel?

Unfortunately the very *question* is the kind of thing too many people are on about now.

My whole life I've heard that kind of thinking from the left, I really started hearing it from the right in the late 90s. And Ayn Rand would not approve of the Libertarian Party or movement today, whatever they call themselves. She wrote about it before her death, and they were definitely not what she had in mind.

Rand made fun and despised both the Left and Right, Liberals and Conservatives. She and William Buckley despised each other. She was pro-abortion, pro-liberty, pro-free thinker, yet she treated a lot of her followers as serfs if they deviated from her thinking.

269 I think there's actual evil in DC. Seriously, the fuck do you call deliberately sending weapons to narco-terrorists with the explicit plan of waiting for them to be used in public mass-murders and then tracing the crime-scene pickups?

And what about using the IRS to persecute your political opponents (that not even new to this administration, though it's notable that Nixon tried and *failed* to do that)?

There are probably thousands of examples of bureaucratic evil committed by people who are driven back and forth from work to their high-priced townhomes or luxury apartments in between luxury junkets to bribe markets, I mean private-public conferences.

If there was a real crackdown on corruption in DC, you'd have to turn a third of the city into a prison.

But I wouldn't even let somebody sneak a nuke into Beijing, not to mention DC. There is a hypothetical scenario someone could come up with where I could nuke a city myself, but I'm sure it's pretty far out there (stopping the perfect zombie plague or whatever).

278 On the DC front- I'd defuse the bomb, and not waste a moment thinking about it.

What defines much of our history as a nation is our regard for life, and our compulsion to protect the innocent. Even American liberals- easily duped though they may be- are driven by the notion that what they're doing is right (even though the results are obviously diametrically opposed to what is right).

That's worth preserving, even at the cost of my own life. I hope, regardless of what happens in the future, that that's ALWAYS a defining characteristic of Americans.

You'll often hear during weather events the news station's meteorologist say something along the lines of "reported by trained storm spotters." They're referring to people with Skywarn training. Most of the time these folks are also ham radio operators. Saturday I was on a local network tied into NWS Peachtree City (GA) during the crap weather we were having. If you have a scanner, you can listen to the reports as they're being passed to the NWS and before they make it to the news station.

" ... the "three thirds" of this country- left, right, and center, for lack of a better term.

... essentially, as a marriage headed for a divorce, ...
"

I don't think so.

One of the reasons that we've had only 3 wars of any significance in this country since 1776 is that the "Balkanization" phase ended either in 1783 or 1865.

We managed to avoid the equivalent of "Europe: 1453-1945", and I think the Right, Center and much of the Left see this ... or will see it, if "divorce" really starts looking possible.

Further, a "divorce" allows several other players to try to do things their way ... the Vietnamese and South Koreans aren't really up for Chinese vassalage, and there's a reason.

I think it's simply a matter of forcing the Left to deliver on its promises, and then watching them fail spectacularly.

ObamaCare, here in CA, looks like it will never make it out of the red. It's expected to fail catastrophically, and soon ... maybe a year.

Mentioned upstream is the reality that many college students are realizing that the Left is lying, and has been all along. I see this in many of my evening courses, and among all age groups.

A lifetime of working at Starbucks, and getting yelled at, publicly, by the severely-pimpled high schooler/assistant manager appeals to no one ...

... BTW, this is what animates the SJWs and writers: "Sit down and Let Us Abolish You" ...

... not until you can recognize the difference between a Caffe Mocha and a Caffe Latte at 15 feet.

It's simply a matter of letting Darth Reality take action, and enjoying the tasty beverage of choice all the while.

308 the antidote and the solution.

the left is relentlessly negative and after the last decade it's tiresome. egalitarians, they see endless oppression: of blacks, women, gays, the "99%" for which the only solution is the state, obama's transformation of america. to object and criticize their world view is not enough.

i have found the answer on, where else, youtube. bored with tv, news and blogs, i've taken to watching game show reruns and discovered the happiest place in america, the price is right. try it. you'll see, of course, excitable contestants vying for appliances and trips. but it also has some impressive prizes in the 10's of thousands, including porsches, jaguars, ferraris, teslas and bentleys.

you'll also see the real america. it's audience is young and old, male and female, black, white, etc from every background, joined not in resentment or hostile contention but in remarkable comity and good will. the price is right is run by pro's, they know what
they're doing. apparently, they interview the audience lined up before the show and look for excitable but nice contestants, genuinely good-natured and it shows.

the left and the snoits, the michael moores of the world, will call them stupid american materialists. but the enthusiasm on display is generous in spirit toward their fellows and grateful, above all, for the opportunity that they have each taken taken by their initiative. and this is america., the opportunity society we are all able to partake in and find reward.

reagan's optimism was grounded in this truth, seldom heard until his refreshing reminder. to be successful in 2016, the republicans must not only criticize obama's policies, they must articulate this value. it will resonate, for we are all embarked in the viability of this endeavor in real terms in our lives. a key point should be to roll back the volumes of regulations obama has instituted as part of his "transformation",
we should answer the class, race, sex war attacks with
the rejoinder that we are all in this together, individually competent and capable to partake of thereat gift america offers.

311 I find it fascinating that someone like Rand who was
pro liberty would look down on someone who appreciated her if they
didn't go lock step with her.

Posted by: thathalfrican

Ayn Rand was an unusual person in many ways. She adored her husband, Frank Connor, yet she had an open affair with Nathaniel Branden that ended badly for both. Connor was a very nice man, and her physical ideal (he looked a lot like Gary Cooper), but was not an intellectual of any sort.

Branden is painted as an evil manipulator by the loyal Randians, but his book "Judgement Day" connects a lot of dots about why he did what he did, and how much he regrets a lot of it.

His ex-wife, Barbara Branden, wrote the Ayn Rand biography, "The Passion of Ayn Rand". At the end, Rand thought Nathaniel Branded used her.

Rand could be incredibly patient with people in explaining her ideas, and was genuinely mystified when people reacted with personal hatred towards her (the Left, usually), because what she really strove for was a New Renaissance in thinking, a New Enlightenment. She genuinely wanted freedom for everybody.

380 When you were born in time has a lot less bearing on who you are, than how you have lived your life.

I was a little too young to end up in Viet Nam, but I knew a lot of guys that went and came back. Like one of those early Boomer guys who went to South Viet Nam in 1965 when he was 18 and got shot by a sniper in the back and was a paraplegic for life. Lived four doors down from my parents' house. It's been almost 50 years, and it still makes me sad.

I know that Viet Nam vets were excluded from being the BAD boomers, but I knew guys that went that hated it. Some drafted, some volunteers. One guy I know did four tours as a Marine in Viet Nam, half of one tour at Khe Sahn in 1968. If that means anything to some people here.

Nah, just snarking on stupid commercials. We get them in Oregon with the big comment on the end about it being funded by DHS and MTA

Let it burn is honestly best translated as "let them burn.

I am under no faith that any uprising or national divorce wouldn't turn into, at best, the Spanish Civil War, or at worst, Somalia.

So let's say I do the right thing according to the MTA spot:

I call the Sheriff about a suspicious package.
They call the State Police
They send out the remaining bomb tech (the last one in charge went boom over not being able to identify a bomb)
Maybe the fix it. Maybe they have other things to do.

I see an odd person doing odd things
I call 911
they either pass me to the patrol car on duty for a phone interview or pass me to the County or State.
Maybe they send someone out, maybe they call me back in a couple of days to take a statement.

They are asking me to pay more in property taxes to give me more of this level of service while they build better municipal buildings....
And the legislature is passing more and more bills to make sure that I have less freedom and more obligations under the law because of people who ignore current laws. And the fines get steeper. and the taxes get higher. And the service is worse and the punishments get harsher because the lawless ignore the laws and laugh at the enforcement, and law abiding folk like me roll over and comply where actual criminals generally continue to break the law until compelled to stop - and that lasts only until they have their sentence shortened because of lack of room in the jail. And the elected representative openly take the sides of murderers and thieves.

Citizens stop fighting for their state when they can no longer find any difference between the state they are supposed to fight for and the enemy they have been chose to fight against. Especially when they see what looks like an alliance between the state that is oppressing them and the thugs the state is supposed to protect against.

Anyways, that's my bile.

Sleep well, all.

We get tornadoes here in Alberta, too. The Pine Lake tornado of a decade or so past missed my home by less than 30 miles. Killed a number of people in an RV campsite at Pine Lake. A few years earlier, a tornado wandered into an industrial area in South Edmonton, and killed some folks and did huge damage. Most of Alberta is "empty" enough, that tornadoes can be spawned, wander around, and expire, without doing much more damage than mow down a swath of trees, and may not even be seen by people.

479 Courage to those in Texas, facing the onslaught of the tornado.

I had a good shop day today, nice Spring day here, weather-wise, so I had the garage door open, and let the Sun shine in. Did a major bout of tidying-up in the garage, even found some parts I'd forgotten I had, like a full set of Studebaker 6-cylinder riveted brake shoes, relined by yours truly a few years ago. Up onto the shelf with the boxed ones, heh.

Got another layer of body filler on the rear apron of the '68 VW bug, and then sanded it down with the D/A. Getting close to where it can be painted, but not quite yet.

And got a third of the left shock tower on the '66 Mustang un-gibbled. The car was once somebody's race car, and the shock towers had been bashed in with a sledge hammer to accommodate, presumably, a 390 engine. So I cut out the bashed-in section with a zip wheel on a die grinder, turned it back right-side out by hammering on an anvil, and then welded the piece back into the hole. Metal is too thick to just hammer on, in place. Besides, the middle section has a backup panel behind it. Right side is all done, and looks good, too.

Posted by: HUCK / AKIN 2016 at April 27, 2015 12:21 AM (0LHZx)

Of the Whites who are dying off, they are skewed towards those with one or not kids, and heavily atheist. One of the reasons why Whites will become monolithically right wing in coming generations (assuming parents can inoculate against indoctrination).

Of the native born set, aside from those born to recent immigrants, the highest reproduction rate comes from right wing Whites.

Even amongst immigrants, the reproduction rate is falling. Mexico has recently dropped below 3 (they were 7), and many Central American countries already have rates below replacement levels (same as with Iran, Turkey, &c.).

White will become monolithically right of center.

Asians are not monolithically left-of-center, and can be easily persuaded.

The GOP has gotten good % of Hispanics before, can do so today (IIRC, Abbot won the Hispanic vote), and can in the future.

Black immigrants are excellent targets for conservatives to convert.

It is an elastic shirt, or maybe a corset?, that you put on a dog's chest and forequarters. Runs from the neck back to the front of the belly, more or less. On a human, such a garment would be called a vest, OK? Supposedly the pressure of the elastic comforts the animal, and reduces anxiety in stressful situations. They are sold at the pet store I frequent.

498 Infidel-oh yeah I had an unfortunate amount of lefty teachers -(and I went to a private Catholic school! I shudder to think of public schools) Like I said I wasn't a young child, I was 13 when 9/11 happened so yeah I got a lot of dumb ideas from teachers and other authority figures about politics at the time. I was pretty politically precocious thanks to my father and rebellious to boot so I challenged their wacky ideas a lot.

Hi Anna. This is a new Bug in the Peon flock. A '68 custom Beetle (swing axle model), bought from a friend in Montana for $400, sans engine. But next to no rust, and a few new parts, too. Since I had the remains of a '70 Custom Beetle here, with a totally rust-riddled body, but good hard parts, it was a good match. There was a little rust in the floor pan and around the front-most bolt for the right rear fender. Welded that all up. Then painted the floor pan with POR-15, and used more POR-15 to glom fiberglass mat down over the few areas that had slight rust perforation. Result: floor pan that feels solid. Might not be concours, but just fine for a "driver". Work continues....

As those with no issue (decedents) die, their ideology will die with them. Higher and higher percentages of Whites born are being born to right-of-center families. As such, Whites, as a group, become increasingly right-wing in their voting.

And if history holds true, than many Asian and Hispanics will be included the in the "White" group (as Irish, German, S. European, Middle Eastern, and Armenian have before them).

I have a motor, a 1600 dual-port which was a take-out from a VW-based trike built by a friend in Mesa. He wanted more power. So I will dress it up with the stock cooling tin, which I bought a set of, chrome plated, for $40 at the Portland Swap meet, and run it in basically stock configuration. Might have to buy a thermostat bellows; can't seem to find one. I have headliner, window rubbers, and carpet on order from Vancouver. I have nice, perfectly reupholstered seats from the aforementioned '70 rust bucket. Major missing piece at the moment is a windshield.

Ok, I've brushed my teeth and gotten the worse of the two dogs suited up. Yes, this what it does for our dog. Without the shirt, she goes into my shower or closet and thrashes around in panic, knocking stuff on the floor, or tries to hide under my pillow, and she's 80 lbs. Either way, the humans don't get much sleep.

WITH the Thundershirt, she goes into the bathroom, lies on her dog bed and quietly trembles. MUCH better for all of us.

The other dog seems to be getting better and doesn't really need the shirt as long as he can lie down close to or touching the humans.

Come on, really? You can't be this dense.

Whites use the most since (for now) whites are still 70% of the population. But when you look at % of whites on welfare relative to % of the population as a whole, whites are very under-reprisented.

But when did I bring up whites and welfare. I said the welfare state has a long way to go. When people are given a choice between working or not working, they will choose not working, ie socialism.

You guys are living in a fucking dream world where the great American renaissance is just around the corner. Wake the fuck up.

Nationalized Healthcare doesn't have to mean administered by the govt. Most countries with single payer have a mix of public and private hospitals. Just like the US. The key is who
a) pays and
b) makes the rules

Once the govt pays and makes the rules, it's a nationalized health care system. In Canada doctors aren't govt employees. They run private practices. So according to your logic, Canada doesn't have a nationalized health care system.

Why so linear?

In 2012, in Nevada, GOP got over 40% of Asian vote... during the Presidential year when Obama trounced.

2014 may have been a mid-term, but guess what? Mid-terms happen just as often (if not more) that Presidential elections. Voting patterns of demographic groups can and will change.

But, nice to see you acknowledge your assumptions that you can f**k over a racial group and expect them to bow down and suck the d**k/c**t of anyone with a D next to your name.

Not everyone will take it as well as you think.

The inheritance, from Edington through Runnymede and Yorktown to the modern day is strong and not so easily killed.

Yours is an ideology of FAIL. You may kill, but it is inevitable you will be killed by your own idiotic insanity. If you live long enough, you will see a much more horrible society rise from your ashes and you will lament killing off the freeist and most tolerant advanced society this planet has ever known.

Yes, I can but pray that we both live to see that day, wherein your tears of sadness shall be shed (along with your blood).

633 There have been shockingly-few titties so far in this season of Game of Thrones.

Tommen gets bunked multiple times per evening by Anne Boleyn Lady Margerine, Sansa struts, and the dwarf visits a no-holds-barred-brothel, and all we get is some minor tease?

They had some pointless dude kissing some other pointless dude in a previous episode, I guess that's the important part, to GRRRRRRR "I can type one page in a month if I concentrate on writing instead of Cheetos!" Martin.

Well, I don't think we need to kill a million or so people, but most folks have quite a rage going on about Hillary! and the unwavering support she gets, as well as the totally in the sack House and Senate, and even the Supreme court.

I think that there's so much corruption proof that so many have on each other, it explains the 'fire 'em all' attitude that morphs into a drunken helplessness that fires up some to imagine the only way to get rid of these corrupt intertanglements is to just blow it away and start over.
But I think that's a bit extreme, if you know what I mean.

Just a return to the Constitution, Mostly the parts that limit the Federal government's overreach.

727 "t seems to be working for that extremely violent country known as egypt."

Is there any above the pay grade 0-3 left capable of leading a Coup? What we have left these days seem to have more in common with the golden pheasants circa April 1945

728 This is an interesting conversation, and it's a rare thing for me to be up in the middle of the night. So I went upstairs and got the plug for my laptop.

I read that men are more likely than women to choose to kill Hitler in a time travel scenario. But would women be willing to try to save him?

DC is Hitler in this scenario.

Yeah, no
It's not gonna happen.
But what's been happening on our southern border is totally nutso. I'd really like to know why the "chamber of commerce" has so much influence.
Who bought who? and for how much? How do they figure that several million unskilled, (along with Gangs, and cartels, and repeat criminals) are going to work to their advantage?

save him?

Tarsonov is just a Mumia to these twits.
Yeah, I suppose women think they could 'turn around' these poor misunderstood mass killers, but what is anybody going to do about it? Whine?

732 "How do they figure that several million unskilled, (along with Gangs,

The common thought is by having all that immigrant, unskilled labor available, it will keep labor costs down. Thus maximizing profits.

That would give impetus? for a raising of the minimum wage would would in turn drive more and more onto the gub'mint dole. Thus increasing gub'mint size and power. Win win for both parties.

Just one thought.

As one woman put it:
That's retarded, Sir

(not a slam on you, cell)

What is the Chamber of Commerce's view on Lathe Operators, Security Guards, IT professionals, other than reducing our workforce to be equal to, say, China?

My wife agrees with that comment.

The more the merrier? More competition means lower overall wages which again means higher profits.

Follow the money, I guess.

I'm too incapacitated due to alcohol to continue this conversation, so, sorry Ms Tongue, Mr cell, I gotta go, hopefully to have a good night's sleep. and to try to wake up from this nightmare, with some hope and ideas.

Good Night, and Good Luck.

Nuking DC is a no-brainer. Absolutely stop it -- there are millions of people who a nuke would mess with, and only a certain small number of folks who amply deserve nuking.

But, as I mentioned upthread, what if you could JDAM the SOTU? You get about 400 Sens/Reps, the POTUS, some cabinet trained-seals, and about 4 of SCOTUS.....and a reputation for being bitchy. That's a much different calculus.

The numbers which finally balanced still need to get put into forms that I find harder to read.

Hope the BH had a safe trip home & that you feel better soon...

742 G'morning, all.

Posted by: Village Idiot's Apprentice at April 27, 2015 05:50 AM (VPLuQ)

743 Busy busy busy.

This past weekend I finished cleaning up the master bedroom and got it re-arranged. Ditto with the master bedroom closet, to include the hanging of new shelves (take note, if you want them done right you don't want me to do them).

To facilitate cleaning the master bedroom I've started an office where I've moved the computer I am currently banging the keyboard on as well as my bookshelves and all of my books. Damn, I have a lot of books. But I digress.

I've had to become completely ruthless as I've gone about my cleaning, at first I was putting everything into boxes thinking "the girls might want this" but as I've come along I've adopted the attitude that if they wanted it they've had five years to come and claim it. I'm tossing about everything but pictures now.

At times it's been tough, but I've got proper motivation to keep me going.

745 Ya GGE, I'm moving stuff. Just sold off my album collection to some good friends who have a music store. Haven't touched them in maybe 15 years except to lug them to a new home, boom...gone.

Loosing stuff that no longer matters in my life...its time is past and I don't have the time for it. It's going to get harder soon because things that were a major part of my life will hit the market to become someone else's treasures.

Nikon camera equipment, tools, my Brazilian mahogany, a couple of bikes and spare motors...

It's just 'stuff' as George Carlin called it, unused and needing a new home.

I'm streamlining because I see something coming.

Posted by: Gmac - Driving into the future from the past at April 27, 2015 06:11 AM (4pjhs)

746 Gmac, my something has already come.

This summer it will be five years since Laura passed, but the house had remained untouched and unchanged. The top to bottom cleaning is more about moving on and making room for the new. Not that I want to forget anything about my life with Laura...but she's gone now, and it's time to build some new memories with M...which I can't do as long as I hold on to the old.

747 Secession.
I've believed it for years, but cannot solve the geographic vs philosophic puzzle. People can move, I guess.
