The HCEfh claims that all French women have experienced some kind of unwanted sexual attention while riding on public transport. Can this really be true? Well, not exactly. When contacted by FRANCE 24, the HCEfh's spokeswoman contextualized the figures, providing information that was not included in the report. The group admitted that it did not hire a research institute, but instead calculated the statistics from a sample of 300 women who had all participated in a public consultation about women's roles in the public space and...harassment in public transport. This means that all of the women polled were already concerned by the subject in question.They contacted women who had already self-identified as being upset about harassment on public transportation, then asked this self-selected group if they'd ever been harassed on public transportation (as they define "harassment"). Now that's how you do it, Ladies. #YesAllWomen? Yes, indeed, #YesAllWomen!!!

Slightly OT, but I read recently that the Dutch are now the tallest people in the world - guys who are 6'5" or even 6'7" are not uncommon there. And it apparently has happened in just a few generations time. (Americans, who used to known for being tall, have leveled off.)

I had an interdisciplinary class in college, History thru Film or some thing. One of the first films was Birth of a Nation.
Few realize that movie was responsible for the rebirth of the Klan. The post CW Klab had died out. This movie led to a rebirth so that it was very popular even in the north and Midwest.
Actually in our area it wasn't so much anti-black as anti-anyone not a WASP. The northern Klan never lynched blacks, as few lived here, just were bigots about anyone not like them.
And they didn't lynch them, it was up to the Dems in the South who killed others that were different than them. Party that blacks embrace today, go figure.

Yep, I was his driver or RTO sometimes (I was his RTO on the jump for the Soviet MoD). To this day, I still hold that, next to my father, he was one of the finest men I'd ever met in my life.
Last I heard, he was a 3-star and was back in 08 or so the Operational Commander of Multinational Forces Iraq. He's all growed up now.
CSM England was my Ops NCO back then, too. A few years ago, he became the first non-Officer to present the keynote (or whatever it's called) at All American Week.
I did stand among giants for a time. Which is absolutely no reflection on ME, because unfortunately none of it rubbed off, lol. But I know what great men look like.

Way off topic but if not here where??? I accidently posted some snake porn on FB the other day. Was out walking and came across a ball of about 15 snakes all wrapped up. I thought it was an unusual scene so I took a pic and posted. I later learn it was a snake orgy with purpose of making baby snakes. I am ashamed now.

Yeah, I know that's what it sounds like, but in my case -- a rare instance, admittedly -- I actually am a photo editor working on a project for a client that entails sifting through thousands of nearly identical photos of models during a promotional photo shoot.
The pro photographers usually set their cameras to "burst mode," which means that they'll take up to 8 photos per second. An hour-long photo shoot can result in over a thousand images to sift through.
Since the photographer are high-end mucky-mucks, one doesn't pay them to actually choose the final image - one pays less expensive people to do that.
My role here is to sift through the countless images, and diacard all the ones where the model is blinking or wincing or not quite perfect, and them winnow it down to about 50 or 60 candidate-photos, for the final selection to be made by others. Then I edit it to make it perfect.
I don't do this all the time -- this just happens to be in my skill set for this project.

Wow, Oedipus, that's a blast from the past (no pun intended). I ran the firepower demonstration at OP-5 for the Soviet MOD after the jump. Three memories of that day: 1. 2 Soviet generals sitting in the bleachers at Sicily DZ pointing on the horizon at one of the C-130s doing the heavy drop that was coming in too low and saying it was too low, and sure enough, the load burned in (you wouldn't have known that, as you were at about the 10 minute warning). 2. Between Sicily DZ and OP-5, the VIP party stopped as a drone flew over and from the woods a missile went up and hit it -- the Soviets all yelled "Stinger!" which I thought was a very nice F**k You (it was 1990, we could do that stuff then). 3. After the firepower demonstration, Minister Yazov came to the podium and tried to act as unimpressed as he could and gave a speech that basically said, "Yeah, we have all this stuff too, let's hope we never use it against each other." Quite a day. You know he was one of the coup plotters against Gorbachev in August 1991?

That jump was the first time I got to "hang". A friend of mine was jumpmaster, and since I was jumping and humping LTC Vines' radio, he was #1 man on one stick, I was the #1 man on the other. SSG VG told me "I'm gonna make you hang" and sure as shit he did. Beautiful, and nervewracking (I went airborne because I was, and still am, afraid of heights, and was determined to conquer it). When the green light came, I...um...forgot to give that half-second pause to stagger the jumpers, and ended up walking across LTC Vines' silk. Luckily, he didn't steal my air, and all was good, lol.

Lately, I am increasingly concerned about the 24 hr. a day monitoring of people's movements. It is only a matter of time before one's whereabouts/movements at any given time will be completely known.
While we think we have a certain immunity from Big Brother, the same immunity does not exist from private enterprise. Already, companies have been formed which capture license plate photos, and make those available for sale.

Media narratives getting misinterpreted, but the underlying facts are true.
Maine always followed welfare reform federal guidelines -- able bodied adults with no dependents could only be on food stamps for 3 months a year unless they were working at least 20 hours a week, in a state approve job training program, or doing 6 hours a week of volunteer work.
That was always the law.
Then in 2009 they passed short term emergency law that basically said "any one can go on food stamps."
When they reverted back to the old law (and you could imagine the headlines in the liberal rags) 6 years later, most people in the able bodied adult with no dependents category fell off the eligibility roles.

New passports and drivers licenses come equipped with an RFID chip that they claim can't be detected from any real distance, but who knows?

Getting rid of it was not easy.
And the articles about starving kids (even though this had nothing to do with people WITH dependents) were coming quick... still are, I'm sure.

Yet little mention of the billions that are sucked in by corporations who provide those services and all the other corporate welfare going on.
I understand it's a good target. Easy to see and lots of anecdotal stories about abuse. Corporate Welfare isn't just one program. It's defuse and very widespread. Lot's and lot's of takers out there living right next door to you stealing your money and not because they're on SNAP.
Also, federal workers double dipping, federal workers retiring and getting SSDI. They know the ins and outs and have friends in the bureaucracy that will help with the paper work on getting disability payments.
Very rampant among Firefighters, Police and Public Sanitary workers.
Not excusing SNAP idiocy but there's far more cheating going on by folks who are already making a good living.
But we don't see them or hear about them much.

In WW2, my dad, who was still in England at the time, volunteered once to fly over France and kick out door bundles. He said there is nothing like the feeling when you're in the dark inside an aircraft in daylight and you can see the holes being shot through the fuselage. He did it once.

Also in general the work rule stuff was bogus and was mostly just make work stuff. When I was on it briefly in '89, what was ironic is that the work rules made it very difficult to find a job as I couldn't schedule interviews on short notice and going and looking for work is difficult when you have no transportation and only 1 day a week to look. (no you didn't "work" the full day but it usually ran from 9am to 2-3pm so that blows a hole in the day for looking for a job at most places. especially if it's dirty work. Employers don't like to see job applicants in dirty work clothes usually)

The tough part about this argument is that the left uses "tax deductions" and "corporate welfare" indiscriminately.
So I mean... yes, farms and pharma and colleges and banks get big hands out.
But most "corporate welfare" the left is talking about is actually just companies' tax deductions. They still pay a shit ton in taxes, and are not at all ahead of the game.
But then there are the crony businesses run by friends family, donors, etc of politicians who get the lucrative govt contractors. Thats pretty close to welfare for me.

That may be what the left talks about but I'm talking about other stuff.
From experience; our defense procurement procedure (and I use that term loosely) is antiquated, filled with exceptions, promotes falsification of documents, enforces the use of less than optimal materials due to new technology, rewards technological inertia (using old tech is easier than applying new tech), punishes innovation, punishes efficiency and is a prime source of "work" for retired officers.
And that doesn't take into consideration the millions that is handed out daily for useless research, propaganda production and inefficient operations.
Just sayin'
And the biggest problem is that electing anyone willing to reform that system at any level of government isn't likely to succeed due to inertia and too many people reliant on those inefficiencies for their daily bread.
Thousands of agency rules would have to be rolled back and that's not counting the strangulation being done by the state governments as they mimic the Feds in so many ways.

My point was that individuals, imo, would garner more attention rather than less by choosing this option.
Sure, It would suck up too many resources if enough people did this, but do you think they would not come up with something like a Citizens Safety and Security Administration to add resources if this were the case? I sure think they would.

they "estimate" my electric bill every other month. Sometimes more often depending on how lazy the meter reader is.
They base this "estimate" on what my consumption was A YEAR AGO!!1!1!!!
For some strange reason their "estimate" is always higher than actual usage. (I check)
This means that the electric company has a slush fund going so that every month a certain percent of their money is a mandatory tax free/interest free loan from their customers.
that has to add up. Which is probably why they do it. Sure it evens out for the customer overall but still it's tax free and interest free money for them.
If your electric company is doing this to you, call your utility commission and your state rep and see what they have to say. (not much hope there but you never know)
Me, I take the option of reading it myself and filling out a form online so as to keep them honest.
