48 So I've talked before about my hippy dippy coworker.

She's been bringing those branded clementine oranges to work. She's also been making a big deal out of how it's about GD time that the government has made food manufacturers offer healthy food for lunches, like Cuties, instead of GMO crap. I guess clementine oranges didn't exist before now or something.

Anyway, I played dumb. "Oh, they aren't GMO or genetically manipulated? Aren't they Clementines? Do they have seeds?"

She says "No seeds, which is as it should be because Monsanto breeds pesticides into the seeds which make children sick."

I think she's also All In for Hillary.

It's actually fairly common practice. Not just GMO with pesticides, but most seeds are permeable and will readily absorb pesticides. If you think that's interesting, google "GURT" seed technology. That is flat-out SCARY.

I've thought for some time but I'm now convinced that the internet functions mostly as an insanity generator.

No matter how lunatic a thought you might have-

there are a fairly large group of people on the internet who hold the same belief-

and together you can and will reinforce each others lunacy until it becomes a firm part of your thinking.

104 This morning ,Suzanne Somers was on Fox with her never changing hairstyle from her Three's Company days , framing her puffy, looks like Botox to me face, and was hawking her, get this... 25th health and longevity book.

This one is titled, Tox-Sick and describes how she and her hubby moved into a house four years ago that was filled with toxic mold. The story she told was so unbeliveably ridiculous and Doocy, Kilmeade, and Stepford wife rolled right along with it.

Somers claimed that she swelled up , ended up in the hospital where doctors told her she was filled with cancer, she refused chemo and they told her to get her affairs in order as she would die. She said her husband ended up with mold in his brainstem causing tremors, etc. that took two years to resolve.

She said it turned out to simply be the toxic mold they were exposed to , then she went on to claim that toxins are purposefully put int mattresses, etc. children's toys, etc.

She gave Jenny McCarthy 's antivax claims a real run for the money.

112 Much criminal behavior such as Aaron Hernandez's can be entirely explained as latent homosexuality. Every male over the age of 12 fully understands that if you commit crimes (A) you will go to prison (B), and that if you go to prison (B) there will be no women, just a bunch of guys having sex with each other (C). Hernandez had it all -- all the money, fame, and women he could ever want -- but he threw it all away because, deep inside, he wanted to go to a place, for the rest of his life, where there are no women, just a bunch of guys having sex with each other. And to make absolutely sure that would happen, he retained a home monitoring video that showed him with the murder weapon.

Lots of plants create their own pesticides. That is what the capsacins in peppers are. Mesquite bushes produce a substance that not only poisons pests but also kills off nearby plants so that there will be less competition for water in the arid places where mesquite grow. 154 Hi guys, I'm so extremely pissed off right now. My daughters school decided to bring in Jamie Utt for an assembly yesterday, he's all into #blacklivesmatter, and check your white privilege B.S. This was done during Star week(a program started by the school because of so many suicides, and was supposed to be a time where the school community comes together) anyway, my daughter did not appreciate the subject like most of the little minions and tweeted at this man shouldn't all lives matter. Well the hate and veiled threats ensued all of yesterday, and today my daughter got called into the counseling center, because one of the counselors, who thankfully, has her back, heard all of the teachers, students etc.. talking about my daughter and she felt like she needed to bring her in to give her a place to talk about it. The members of the STAR committee, were actively re-tweeting and liking tweets calling my daughter names and bullying her. I really feel like the school has now placed my daughter in an unsafe environment because of bringing this controversial speaker/subject matter into the school. I'm waiting on a call back from the school now. My daughter ended up deleting most of her tweets because she felt threatened. The speaker private messaged her sort of apologizing for putting her in a position to receive all of this hate, but said it was a good discussion to have, whatever douche bag, why don't you apologize to her publicly. I'm proud of her for standing up, but not happy that she was forced to retreat for her own safety and sanity. Rant Off!

We have a similar thing here on the island. This place was originally all farms owned by the wealthy from Providence and Newport and there are still a few large (by the standards of this place) farms.

All year round we get farm fresh meats and cheeses right at the farms and in the summer we have a farmer's market for produce and all of it is grown on the island.

223 The ability to officially collect income tax was passed as an act of Congress on August 5, 1861. It was called a "necessary evil" to raise funds to pay for the Civil War (which began April 12,1861). Known as the Revenue Act of 1861, it was signed into law by Abraham Lincoln.

Things taxed included imports and property - and the personal income tax started out as a flat-rate tax of 3% on those making $800 and up (and it's reported that only 3% of the U.S. population at the time earned that amount).

Yes, its not the initial scuffle with the tweets that are the major problem, even if the school apologizes publicly, it will be the on-going harassment that needs nipped in the bud. Those kids, being kids, believe they have the backing of the school system, which they probably do.

If the teachers were tweeting her too, they do have the de facto backing of the school. It's not like the teachers will do anything to step in when they agree with the bullying students. They've already proven it by tweeting approvingly.

297 Interesting to hear Dresden's been redone fairly well.

Like 99.9% of all WWII ex post facto impractical exercises in moral narcissism, I believe the usual mythology about the Dresden raid is baseless. Think the place was a center of what would now be called hi-tech German military production (optics, electronics), not to mention a transport hub of importance to the eastern front that had not been hit much or at all until then.

If Heidelberg had been leveled, we might have a case. But as with Kyoto, the Allies displayed not just good sense but civilized impulses amidst the Axis madness. And in Kyoto the Japs were sensible enough to recognize it as a sanctuary and do some production there.

344 Spypeach, I am no longer an attorney (18 years, now retired), but I am very good at finding defendants' physical whereabouts and having them served with lawsuits at otherwise joyous family functions.

So I am in, too.

347 If you read what that kid in Seattle says who was molested by his teacher who he is now married to, his life has not been happy. He was a 13 y/o with a baby and then another one 2 years later. Missed opportunities, struggling on welfare. He was very depressed. His oldest daughter is off to college and I sense a bit of jealousy in what he missed out on.

348 313 - You could make the case that "Turn Turn Turn" is Judeo-Christian since its from Ecclesiastics.

But you have Pete Seeger involved so maybe that cancels the good.

351 these songs are not so popular, but i like them I'm not much of a Christian, but I try.

Judee Sill "Jesus Was A Cross Maker"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=60dwSWq2e6A

these have some biblical themes or elements:

Shootyz Groove "L-Train"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uYqh6-0DB2g

Frank Black & The Catholics "21 Reasons"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XMT0BXosu3g

Frank Black & The Catholics "All My Ghosts"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sU0tosD-4OI

doubt is a bitch, i don't always have faith:

bad religion "sorrow"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R0RL6023q1g

And of course, some awesome songs that help me sometimes:

Johnny Cash "God's Gonna Cut You Down"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ht7mxF9XZiA

Vince Gill "Threaten Me With Heaven"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ql9U36DxOfM

"Jacob's Ladder"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=40U0URLnXIQ

he said "I am the vine and you are the branches. any man who stays in me and I in him will bear much fruit, for you can do nothing without me." and "whatever you have done for the least of these brothers of mine, you have done for me."

i don't pretend to understand it all, i just try not to be angry every waking moment. some days are better than others.

352 Dresden still looks like that. They put a lot of work into restoring the Baroque quarter (the part in the painting, which was the center of the firestorm). I used to walk across that bridge on my way home late at night.

An absolutely gorgeous city.
