11 After watching the dashcam video from the traffic stop before Scott was killed, I'm more baffled about what happened. Why did he run during the stop? I mean it all looked very routine. Neither the officer or Scott seemed belligerent. The only issue seem to be Scott having trouble finding a license or registration. It is really baffling.

I don't buy that. Who was the other man in the car? What did they discuss before he ran?

The car was brand new (to the driver). Was it registered in his name? Was it stolen?

None of this excuses the cop's behavior, but there is more to the story than we are getting, and it begins with why he ran.

69 There's also a time gap in the footage we've seen between the initial stop and the victim running away, and when the cop catches up to him and starts shooting.

What we don't see is when and how the victim was tasered, just that the has the prongs extending from him. What happened in that missing time?

Nothing about this makes sense. It doesn't make sense for a guy to randomly bolt from his car over missed child support, and it doesn't make sense for a cop to unload 8 rounds into a fat old man jogging away.

Yet, both those things happened. Why?

No. Literally nothing happened. The cop took his ID and went back to his car and the man gets out a bit with his hands raised and the cop tells him to sit back down and so he does. 20 seconds later, the man just randomly runs from his car while the cop is still back processing his DL.

That's it. Then we see the footage pick back up with the man running after being tased(?) and the cop shooting.

None of it makes a bit of sense.

I wouldn't call him necessarily evil. People do things in the heat of the moment that they wouldn't do if they had time to think about it.

I'm less concerned over the excessive force because that was heat of the moment type reaction. He shouldn't be a cop and probably should get a manslaughter charge. However, the tampering with a crime scene is worse. That deserves serious time.

I think Steve Sailer once made the point that killing a witness to a murder should carry a mandatory death sentence because one thing you don't want is a string of murders. Kind of the same situation with cops tampering with a crime scene. Make a mistake and you'll get punished. Try to cover it up and the hammer drops.

Seeing a cop in Cimmaron NM, population 200 stopping an 75 year old for speeding in a school zone, it's 15 MPH. Try to drive that. The cop gets out and goes to the passenger side to get his DL then walks backwards to his car to run the DL then gives the old guy a ticket, this is a money maker for the town, and walks backwards again to his car with his hand on his pistol.

What did he think I was a cop inspector? Most ridiculous thing I have seen in a long time.

179 Car chase scenarios are similar but not the same

They have done studies for years about car chases. Sometimes a moron who doesn't want a ticket or to lose their license and tries to flee. Car chases make adreniline flow, and they found police officers involved in car chases are more likely to respond disproportionately. That's why in part they have come up with very specific protocols about what to do in car chases

I think this case is similar in that the chase was on, the adreniline flowed and the police officer responded beyond all proportion. Not sure at all race was a factor. Still not defending him. It was murder

I think it is a constant struggle for departments. Cops, like EMTs, get burned out. I was an EMT for a while, they spend an entire day in training going over burn out. Seeing people die in front of you is pretty tough.

OJ killed his wife and Ron Goldman. Al Qaeda hijacked the planes on 9/11 and flew them into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. And you don't shoot an unarmed man who is running away in the back five times.

It doesn't matter that Al Sharpton will try to make hay of it. It doesn't matter that deep thinkers like Fareed Zakaria will ask "What does it all mean?" We need to guard against amoral illogic in response to amoral illogic.

The presumption of innocence is for the legal system, it certainly doesn't mean individuals are not allowed to come to a logical conclusion about a series of events until a jury trial.

What never seems to get talked about in that story is that the cops were called to this scene, repeatedly, by the local merchants and residents. It wasn't just a chance encounter, it was a response to residents requests because it was a known spot for public drinking, selling drugs and other things like loose cigarettes. And this guy was 1) out on bail for similar violations and 2) resisting arrest.

This may sound silly to those that live in the burbs or in rural locations but I'm willing to bet that most would call the cops if a guy was constantly selling drugs and drinking right in front of their house. Shit happens all the time in cities.

Seriously, cops do overreact but guess what, commit multiple crimes and resist arrest and the cops are not going to send a limo for you to take you back to jail.

Yeah, but when we have certain factions of the left (like the anti-Christ George Soros) paying organizers to spread false information and foment riots over that false information, and a compliant press whose first duty is to the leftarded narrative instead of the truth, then we need to reinforce the rule of presumptive innocence.

329 11 After watching the dashcam video from the traffic stop before Scott was killed, I'm more baffled about what happened. Why did he run during the stop?

My guess is he stole the car, but he may have been wanted on some warrant. He had a long police record.

Nevertheless, the cop was wrong. Something needs to change, and I think part of the solution is to restrict police access to guns. 1100 people killed by police in 2014 (and 127 cops killed in the line of duty). Having a gun on the hip allows these things to escalate like this. But the cops can't be left defenseless, and tasers have short range. I don't have an answer, but we need a better solution than what exists now.

and I couldn't move because I had to stay to care for my elderly mother
who was still in her home. Plus our careers were here. My mom died a
year and a half ago and house has been on the market since then with
nobody even looking at it. We pay over $10,000 a year in taxes on a
lovely 4 bedroom stone single that we'd be lucky to get $140,000. Our
schools are rated 480th (worst) out of 500 districts in PA. The once lovely neighborhood is fraught with crime, poverty and every dysfunction Philly has.

Then to top it off, my husband was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimers 4 months ago. My family has broken apart over the death of my mother (not money-related, they're hard-core progressives, if that helps to understands). Sorry, I didn't mean to go off topic. But people who don't live in high crime areas don't appreciate the need for tough policing. I've worked closely with my police force for years to get results and establish accountability. Cries of militarization and painting them with a broad brush infuriate me, coming from conservatives and libertarians. This is an area you MUST work on a local level and stop generalizing before you get a national police force/ rant off.

There was an essay in Analog years ago about first contact with ET. The author suggested that first, if they were very advanced they wouldn't even recognize us as intelligent.

Second, if they were less advanced than we are, we would find them first.

The middle case was if they were about equal in technical develope, it was the only case where there would be any interaction between us; either trade or war.

370 54 So he ran, wrestled the cop's taser out of his hands, and ran again all over child support. What a moron. The cop though still used excessive force and tampered with a crime scene.

Yeah, about that taser. I think the cop picked it up and moved it near the body so someone didn't just come by and take it. It is a weapon after all. It was just laying there and would have been 50 feet away from where he had to work on the guy, so he just brought it close. He dropped it right in front of his black partner after shooting a black guy, so I really don't think he was planting evidence.

I was thinking to myself last night though (cause I have jury duty later in the month) if I'm sitting on this case and that video is admitted, what could the defense possibly say or even show me that wouldn't have me convict on at least 2nd degree murder beyond a reasonable doubt without too much deliberation. I couldn't come up with anything, and I can be pretty creative.

This is the world liberals say they want. It's the world they've actively built.

They want EVERYTHING regulated, governed, dictated. They simply don't comprehend that when that happens, the state has to ENFORCE those things (see: Kohn, Sally).

This is what the left wants. It's what they crave. And now that they're getting it, they're crying.

No. Elections have consequences. They should get what they voted for. Hard.
