Hillary Clinton Reversed Position on Trade Deal With Colombia After Huge Donation to Clinton Foundation
A few weeks ago, I wrote about Frank Guistra, a mining magnate -- that means oil -- who gave the Clinton Foundation up to fifty fucking million fucking dollars.
Wikipedia shared this tidbit about the Clintons and Guistra.Mr. Giustra became close with former US President Bill Clinton during fundraising efforts for tsunami relief in 2004. Giustra is a member of the board of trustees of the Clinton Foundation. Giustra provided his corporate jet for Clinton's fundraising campaign in Africa.... In September 2005, Giustra flew Clinton to Kazakhstan as part of a three-country philanthropic tour. Clinton praised the Kazakh autocrat for "this statement you have made about opening up the social and political life [of Kazakhstan]". Within two days of the former President's meeting with Kazakhstan’s president Nursultan Nazarbayev, Giustra's fledgling uranium company signed preliminary agreements giving it the right to buy into three uranium projects controlled by the state-owned uranium agency, Kazatomprom. "The monster deal stunned the mining industry, turning an unknown shell company into one of the world’s largest uranium producers."[14][15] In 2006, in the months after Mr. Clinton's visit helped secure Giustra's company the right to mine uranium in Kazakhstan, Mr. Giustra donated $31.3 million to the Clinton Foundation.[14] This figure is at variance with the one released by the William J. Clinton Foundation (on the 18 December 200So this guy gives the Clintons fifty fucking million fucking dollars, and lo and behold, he suddenly has government assistance in getting him into sweet mining situations. The thing with the Clintons, though, is that their crimes are never one-offs. They are always ongoing criminal enterprises., as part of an arrangement with President-elect Barack Obama. The Clinton Foundation reportedly accepted millions of dollars from a Colombian oil company head before then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton decided to support a trade deal with Colombia despite worries of human rights violations. ... The report centers on donations from Frank Giustra and the oil company that he founded, Pacific Rubiales. In a Wall Street Journal story from 2008, Giustra is described as a "friend and traveling companion" of former President Clinton who donated more than $130 million to Clinton’s philanthropies.Oh. I guess I lowballed it. The article now narrates claims that Pacific Rubiales called in the Columbian military to crush a strike against them, in 2011. This generated, obviously, human rights complaints, and this was part of the case against the Columbian Free Trade Agreement.
... On the campaign trail in 2008, Hillary Clinton, along with then-Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, opposed the deal as a raw deal for workers, according to IBT. The pair changed their tune after the election and publicly supported the trade agreement. As secretary of State, Clinton’s State Department certified annually that Colombia was "meeting statutory criteria related to human rights."I'll now turn to the outfit who actually has the scoop, International Business Times.
Yet as union leaders and human rights activists conveyed these harrowing reports of violence to then-Secretary of State Clinton in late 2011, urging her to pressure the Colombian government to protect labor organizers, she responded first with silence, these organizers say. The State Department publicly praised Colombia’s progress on human rights, thereby permitting hundreds of millions of dollars in U.S. aid to flow to the same Colombian military that labor activists say helped intimidate workers. At the same time that Clinton's State Department was lauding Colombia's human rights record, her family was forging a financial relationship with Pacific Rubiales, the sprawling Canadian petroleum company at the center of Colombia's labor strife. The Clintons were also developing commercial ties with the oil giant's founder, Canadian financier Frank Giustra, who now occupies a seat on the board of the Clinton Foundation, the family’s global philanthropic empire. The details of these financial dealings remain murky, but this much is clear: After millions of dollars were pledged by the oil company to the Clinton Foundation -- supplemented by millions more from Giustra himself -- Secretary Clinton abruptly changed her position on the controversial U.S.-Colombia trade pact. Having opposed the deal as a bad one for labor rights back when she was a presidential candidate in 2008, she now promoted it, calling it "strongly in the interests of both Colombia and the United States." The change of heart by Clinton and other Democratic leaders enabled congressional passage of a Colombia trade deal that experts say delivered big benefits to foreign investors like Giustra.I can't quote it all, but if you read down a ways, IBT reports that Hillary, while not explaining her abrupt reversal, claims that while she had "concerns" about Columbia human rights violations, such violations had decreased by the time she visited the country, in 2010. Human Rights Watch, on the other hand, say such violations had increased since 2007. So I'm going to trust Hillary Clinton on this. Because, obviously. Is It Time? With Hillary looking increasingly corrupt, the Democrats may have to turn to some of their the lesser-known candidates for President now politicking up in New Hampshire.

Because his administration and the entire D leadership did a 180 on this Colombian deal, not just Hillary!.
Maybe someone should do some checking in to what the rest of them got out of the deal. I doubt Obama gave a shit if the guy donated to Hillarys! "charity", maybe check to see if Obama and/or leadership in the house and senate got anything out of it.

I don't know, but I don't think that's the real angle for the Clintons.
When you're as wealthy as they are, "income" is not that important. The foundation, I'm sure, pays for most of their extravagant living expenses (private jets, clothes, limos, etc. etc.). They set it up that way so that everything is run through what is essentially a global tax shelter.
The Clintons probably only make a few million in income from legal means (book sales or whatever), everything else goes through their tax exempt "charity" and I suspect that their life style and wheeler dealer ways and power plays are all run through the foundation .

So who knows? Maybe those 26% have been voting R for 30 years, but for some reason their ballots always get lost and replaced with ballots filled out the right way.
Remember the precincts in Philly that went damned near 100% for Obama in 2012 (and ultimately won PA for him)?
Statistically, that always sounded odd to me. You'd expect that even if 100% of the residents supported Obama (hard to believe), SOME of those voters would have accidentally voted for Mitt or a third party.

My belief on the differences of Obama and Warren vs the Clintonsare that while they have certainly enriched themselves, they are true believers of the West being evil, and a Marxist view of the 'elites' knowing what is good for the populace.

BUT unfortunately they are the gate keepers to low information world. So if he offends their sensibilities early on, they can give him the Palin treatment before he gets to define himself on a national stage.
If I were him, I would have kept my head low with the media for a few months until I was more of a known name, then feel free to tell the media to go f themselves when they get in to their ultra lying mode near elections.
But hopefully his strategy works. I'd love to see more candidates replicate it.
And rumor has it that Hillary! hates the press (for their treatment of her and bill in '08, and the whole VRWC thing from the '90s) as much as we do.
So maybe we can see an election cycle where the candidates box out the media. Who knows?

Yes, I think the Clintons are straight up opportunists. They're leftist generally, but ultimately are more interested in their own money and power than in any overarching philosophical stuff.
I suspect Obama is similar. He doesn't strike me as a deep thinker or a "true believer." But I think he, unlike the Clintons, surrounds himself with "true believers"... but I think the only thing Obama really believes in is the power of Obama.

But watching the video, you can see that the officer had no reason to be in fear for his or anyone elses life, nor did he have any reason to fear that the large man lumbering away from him could outrun him and/or the other cops. Plus they had the guys car, they knew his name, and there was no chance he was getting away.
And his warrants were for child support, which while SCUMMY is not violence. If he had a warrant out for armed robbery, I could understand the cop being jittery
But a fat man who was behind on child support is not exactly a criminal mastermind who needs to be dealt with with extreme caution.

Which, honestly... When the cops first started to want to get tasers, they swore up and down that they would save lives. The cops said, "we'll only use them as a last resort when our only other option would be to use our firearms."
Now they use them routinely. And it's really not good for someone to have a shit ton of electricity jolted through their body. Depending on how it crosses your heart, it could kill you. It could also cause serious muscle issues.

On a human level, I understand the cops frustration. It would be much easier for everyone if the guy who knows he has warrants outstanding for failing to support the kids he made would just comply with the cop and get in to the police car.
But, it's still murder.
So... good job Officer Dickhead. You go to jail, the state pays the child support for the guys 4 now fatherless children, and parents get to bury their son who was gunned down for failing to pay a debt he owed.

Actually, being a former resident of Philadelphia and still living in the area, I can totally believe that there were some precincts that went 100% for Obama. You have to understand that:
1.) in Philly, the voting districts are based on the city wards.
2.) The black population in the city is concentrated in the older residential areas.
3.) Many of the older residential areas are pretty bombed out and don't have a lot of people in them anymore.
4.) The ward boundaries, to put it mildly, have not kept up with the population shifts in the city.
Put all of these together, and you end up with a lot of voting districts which are quite small geographically and are in blighted areas, which in turn means they don't have a lot of people in them. There are a lot of precincts that only have 200-300 people in them. Given that many of these areas are at least 95% black, and often 99.9% black, it's not at all surprising that every vote or almost every vote goes to the Democrats.
What I'm concerned about is not the percentage of votes; it's the absolute number. For a Democrat to win a statewide election in Pennsylvania, he/she has to win Philly by at least 300,000 votes. Given how many precincts there are in the city, if you could engineer even a 10% or 20% increase in the votes fraudulently, that could translate into 50,000 votes easily. Now, Obama won Philly by almost 500,000 votes, and the state as a whole by 300,000 in 2012, so I don't think fraud made the difference there, but in closer years it very well could.
