Early Morning Thread 4/5/15 Shark Tank edition.[krakatoa]

I'm trying to come up with a business plan to take advantage of this huge unmet demand for servicing homosexual wedding receptions.

I need something that pushes the envelope while at the same time says "simple Christian what needs fixin".

So far all I've come up with is bible repair man, or exorcist/confessor.

3 Good Morning Morons. Today is Easter Sunday, April 05, 2015. On this date in 1933 FDR issued executive order (yeah he had a pen and a phone too) forbidding the hoarding of gold. In actuality there was no "hoarding" to it. What it was is he forbid US citizens from owning gold bullion and he did it via 'I said". He made the claim that the economic recovery was being held up because people put their money in gold. In actuality it was a slight of hand to get around control that had been put on the federal reserve to limit fiat money. This order was blatantly unconstitutional but FDR didn't give a shit. And it was all for nothing. In fact, nothing FDR did helped the economy, it was the opposite. His socialist policies and strangling regulations prolonged the depression until WWII when it was masked by massive war spending.

This is "forced dues" to a union and it doesn't matter what State you are in. And it is going almost entirely to the Democraps.

22 Carol, here is one of the reasons you do not want to move to New Mexico. Taxpayers will be hit up to fund another crony deal for green power using solar. This company claims they will get lower electricity costs. The numbers I saw back when I was still in the industry showed that solar and wind even with huge subsidies were still multiple orders of magnitude higher than normal rates. And these companies usually go bankrupt as soon as they finish milking the tax payers for subsidies.

52 Hi Morons.

Can I just say that I'm struggling with the mechanics of this Christian thing? It's how I was raised, but I'm only now coming back to it, and I'm trying to reconcile what I want to do this morning with wife, kids, Catholic vs Protestant and the glory I feel in my heart?

Perhaps Conservative Crank put it best last night in the ONT:

"And since it is Sunday morning in Israel...

Alleluia! Christ is risen!

Christ is risen indeed! Alleluia!"

I'll start from there. ALLELUIA! Everything else will work itself out.

53 Everyone thinks that the Jews being Gods chosen people is a good thing.

It is stated clearly in the old testament that that is not so. He has chosen the Jews as a test of the human race.

Sure as his test subjects he protect them (sort of when he's not fcuking them over) but he kind sets them up to see how badly they'll screw up and then he goes "See I told you so".

God's got a warped sense of humor.

This is obvious to anyone who's studied nature.

67 If your memory serves you well
We were going to meet again and wait
So I'm going to unpack all my things

No man alive will come to you
With another tale to tell
And you know that we shall meet again
If your memory serves you well

Wheel's on fire
Rolling down the road
Best notify my next of kin
This wheel shall explode

If your memory serves you well
I was going to confiscate your lace
And wrap it up in a sailor's knot
And hide it in your case
If I knew for sure that it was yours
But it was oh so hard to tell
And you knew that we shall meet again
If your memory serves you well

This wheel's on fire
Rolling down the road
Best notify my next of kin
This wheel shall explode

If your memory serves you well
You'll remember you're the one
That called on me to call on them
To get you your favors done
And after every plan had failed
And there was nothing more to tell
You knew that we should meet again
If your memory served you well

This wheel's on fire
It's rolling down the road
Best notify my next of kin
That this wheel shall explode

They recorded that in the summer of 1967, the year of peace, love, hippies, acid, and flower power.

It has nothing to do with any of that. I don't know what it's about exactly, but it's dark, disturbing, ominous, and absolutely glorious. It's a masterpiece.

Thank you. There's one advantage to coming back to Jesus at my age, I'm kinda immune to being spiritually attacked. Do your worst, I came by this through a long and hard slog.

The hardest thing was realizing that there's room for "fuck you" in Christianity. You want to mock or belittle my faith? Fine. I'll pray for you. Sincerely. But in the meantime, fuck you. Jesus requires me to forgive you (I'm still working on that). He doesn't require me to like you.

The smaller the technology got, the shittier the music became.

As a teen, listening to a Yes album while gazing at Roger Dean's artwork was an experience. Since most tracks were minimum 7-8 minutes long, you never lifted the needle. You had to devote time to it and get into it.

I think cassettes and then CD's made people less patient with more complex styles of music.

88 Those old 50s era tube powered Marantz and McIntosh amps are going for a fortune now.Yes, some people to swear by those old tube thingies but a well built solid state actually has better specs than that old gear.

But what I used to like before CDs came along was the old reel-to-reel units. I recall taking the train into Chicago and going by a large music shop and spending my entire savings on pre-recorded reel-to-reel tapes. I still have a box full of those here somewhere but it has been a long time since I had a recorder. Lightning ate up my last one which I paid $1,000 for way back in the 70s when money was worth more.

90 Weirddave - My parents only took me to church four times growing up.
My first real encounter with religion was watching my GF's mom literally kick her 6'4" son into the car to get him to go to mass. My GF would come back from confession and say "I got off easy, only three our Fathers and a Hail Mary" I thought (and rightly so) that religion was hypocrisy.

Then in my freshman year I came to Jesus because my roommate was in a prayer group. But even this had its problems. At one point I had a 104 degree fever and was getting ice water enemas at the UCONN infirmary to keep my brain from melting. The people from the group came around and said it was God's trial for my life to humble me.

Being a young Christian I did not know enough Word to politely tell them to buzz off. But soon I had a new roommate who was into Bible study. He said: "well if sickness makes you humble, pray for one that's terminal" Finally I was on the road to Christian sanity. We've been friends for 40 years now.

So above all, read the Word for yourself. The hell with religion. Draw close to God.

But in that Word, you're told to not forsake the assembling together. Look, you(in general) have to realize that mankind, as sinful, will always gum things up, including religion. You have no reason to think of yourself as perfection, others as religious troglodytes. I used to do that, too. It's a sad way to live, for the Christian. Been there, done that. Life is sweeter learning humility amongst the brethren, rubbing shoulders with the silly, the poor, the prideful, the off-key singers, and all those other sorts who are like fingernails on the blackboard of your personal sensibilities. Find a good church and attend. It won't be perfection of religion, but you will learn humility like nobody's business there.

Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden,

Praise with elation, praise ev'ry morning,

103 I'm of the belief that the exact denomination of Christianity is less important than these factors:

1. They don't try to take away things from the scripture that are in it, or paper them over with sophistry because they are inconvenient to the clergy or laity.
2. They acknowledge that the Devil is real, and that external evil is a thing.
3. That the reject the "Gospel of Wealth", which is a notion that God will reward the faithful with financial security and abundance.

A church that changes its mind with the times, denies the existence of the devil, and believes that God will reward you with luxury is a church that has fallen far from the Word, and I've encountered many.

Unless you develop some roots, you will get blown about with every wind of doctrine. Social Justice will be a logical extension of What Would Jesus Do. Reverend Sharpton types using scripture to promote a cause makes me seeth.

So after engineering I got a theology degree, not for a title, but just to know and never find myself in the position again where someone else could ostensibly claim to know more of God's heart for me then I did. I am off to fellowship at a friend's house. There will be cake. Cake is good.

113 OH ---and Happy Easter from South America to all the Horde. In my little part of the world here, the bible will be read, eggs will be decorated, hidden and --found??
Prayers WILL be said- not muslim ones either! The Islamic religion was, and is, being subverted for evil.
Below are quotes from the next to last chapter in the muslim holy book. Religion of peace my ass.

9:5 Slay the idolaters wherever you find them.

9:6 Those who submit and convert to Islam will be treated well. (Those who don't submit will be killed. See previous verse.)

9:7-9 Don't make treaties with non-Muslims. They are all evildoers and should not be trusted.

9:11 Treat converts to Islam well, but kill those who refuse to convert (see 9:5).

9:12-14 Fight the disbelievers! Allah is on your side; he will give you victory.

9:23 Don't make friends with your disbelieving family members. Those who do so are wrong-doers.

9:29 Fight against Christians and Jews "until they pay the tribute readily, being brought low."

9:33 The "Religion of Truth" (Islam) must prevail, by force if necessary, over all other religions.

9:41 Fight for Allah with your wealth and whatever weapons are available to you.

9:42 Those who refuse to fight for Allah (claiming they are unable) are liars who have destroyed their souls.

9:73 Fight the disbelievers and hypocrites. Be harsh with them. They are all going to hell anyway.

9:81-83 Those who refuse to give their wealth and lives to Allah will face the fire of hell.

9:85 Those who refuse to fight for Allah will be treated (along with their children) as unbelievers.

9:111 Believers must fight for Allah. They must kill and be killed. Allah will reward them for it.

9:123 Fight disbelievers who are near you, and let them see the harshness in you.

Oh yes. The "tube testers"... After a while, I've come to the conclusion that it is not so much analog vs digital, or solid state vs vacuum tube electronics, but rather the heaviness of the cabinetry holding the speakers. Some of the best, at least to me, sounds I ever heard came from the old "console" TV/stereo systems that used to be so popular back in the '60s and early '70s. My take was that more than anything it was the heavy wooden cabinets the speakers were mounted in that made them sound so good.

143 Easter in Fukushima

"Easter is about resurrection and we are about to see the resurrection of the Japanese prefecture of Fukushima after the twin battering of the tsunami and the reactor accident. That may be a surprising statement to many, but remember that the resurrection of Christ was marked not by his appearance, but by an empty tomb. An angel told Mary Magdalene and the other Mary, "He is not here for he has risen. Come see the place where he lay."

This Easter in Fukushima will be marked by what Sherlock Holmes might have called the dog that did not bark. There is no longer a hue and cry over radioactive plutonium poisoning the Japanese countryside. There is a lot of short half-life Iodine-131 and a lesser amount of Cesium137 about, mostly restricted to the immediate grounds of the reactor plant. But workers are engaged in the clean up. While there were some deaths from the tsunami and the hydrogen explosions, there has not been a single death by radiation sickness, nor is there likely to be one in the future. The radiation doses have been contained to within tolerable limits for cleanup work to proceed. The worst of the crisis has passed. But before we go on with our lives, we ought to give thanks to those who deserve it, God, the American military and the American taxpayer.

Just listen to any episode of Cwirla's God Whisperers to see what I mean.

157 I think you would go broke with such a business. I would bet the reason there are no stats on the number of gay marriages happening is that there aren't very many at all.

Couple of years ago there was a rally against the anti gay marriage proposition. Yay, hurray, we hate bigots and all that. Then the rally leader asked, And who will be getting married first thing then?

No hands raised.
