Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Who, Exactly, Should We Punish for Not Digging Gay Marriage? It's a more interesting question than you might think. Should we punish aged, mentally-fading 67 year old grandmas, like, for example, Hillary Clinton, who opposed gay marriage until last year? What about grandmas generally? Are we going to strip grandma of the sexual modesty that served her well for 70 years, right near the end of her days? How about it, granny? Shouldn't you be up to go to a dinner at that Chinese place in New York where you get served by transvestites? What, Granny -- do you not celebrate their culture? How about blacks, who are more opposed to gay marriage than whites? Will our cadres of quivering whitebread twitternerd crusaders put black owned businesses out of business over a lack of sufficient enthusiasm for gay shit? How about, as so many keep asking -- Muslim bakeries? Well, Steven Crowder, who is now officially My Hero for the next 24 hours, actually went to find out. Yup -- he went there. And when I say "There," I mean Muslim bakeries.Oh, and @proteinwisdom suggests that this person could use some Memory Pizza level aid:

We voted against gay marriage and the courts have overruled the voters. The courts will rule that the constitutional right of freedom of religion is unconstitutional. Hell, they've practically ruled the 2nd amendment to the edge of pointlessness....you can't carry a weapon into a courthouse. And another example is that worthless pos Sen. How about blacks, who are more opposed to gay marriage than whites?
Ace, I made this argument back in 2009, BUT NO ONE LISTENED TO ME. When the gays sued to overturn Prop 8 -- which passed because of heavy black vote for it (Whites in Calif voted it down, but blacks voted for it in high numbers), I argued that the lawyers for Prop 8 had a SLAM-DUNK winning case by claiming that the leftists were trying to disenfranchise black voters, to suppress black votes. If they had stuck exclusively to this argument in the trial, they would have won. Instead, they chose the "obvious" strategy (judges can't overturn elections) and lost. "Iran is a party to the NPT but was found in non-compliance with its NPT safeguards agreement and the status of its nuclear program remains in dispute. In November 2003 IAEA Director General Mohamed ElBaradei reported that Iran had repeatedly and over an extended period failed to meet its safeguards obligations, including by failing to declare its uranium enrichment program. After about two years of EU3-led diplomatic efforts and Iran temporarily suspending its enrichment program, the IAEA Board of Governors, acting under Article XII.C of the IAEA Statute, found in a rare non-consensus decision with 12 abstentions that these failures constituted non-compliance with the IAEA safeguards agreement. This was reported to the UN Security Council in 2006, after which the Security Council passed a resolution demanding that Iran suspend its enrichment. Instead, Iran resumed its enrichment program." Find a couple of single men who are willing to go through with the SSM. Go to a Muslim bakery, say we're getting married on this date and we need a cake. I am crazy allergic to smoke so you think I'd support this right? Nope. Not one bit. Because I think a homeowner should be free to do what he wants in the privacy of his own home, period. Even if I who live next door tut tut and disapprove of his life choices, is his life. The other prob is when they get this seemingly sensible no smoking ban passed, what is next? Probably pets, since allergy problems affect health, and safety due to bites or scratches or feces. I have a cat baby, thus would be forced to move or get rid of cat baby. I have a theory... one that many will HATE...
Many of our behaviors are programmed into us... either through Genetics, or Evolution (pick your poison). Some of these behaviors have to do with Family,Tribe, or Race survival... like traditional gender roles... and seem to cross all cultural boundaries.... What we are attracted to... or repulsed by... is in that category as well... I prefer trim fit Women, who are not overly endowed in the breast category.... why I like that? I can't tell you... but it is so. I am also repulsed by certain body types... some of which other Men find attractive.... So when Gays tell me they can't help who they are attracted to? I get it... I really do.... But along with that comes the flip side, of can we help what we are repulsed by? I am repulsed by the Effeminate Flaming Gay Male mannerisms.... which somehow seem to cross cultural boundaries... Being Gay in and of itself is not an issue (my now deceased Daughter was a Lesbian)... but a Flamer really irritates me.... So the question becomes... if what we like and dislike is really beyond our control (as the Gays say about their sexual preference).... then why the hell do I get in trouble when I don't like Flaming Gay Males???? as it is in the same category? The further removed from an environment where those two traits are no longer in the forefront of our consciousness, the further back those two functions are suppressed. I don't really care that Freidersdorf is suddenly saying this has gone too far. The reason is that those opposed to this have been saying for years that this is what was going to happen. It's happened everywhere. Once the homosexuals get "marriage" they turn the state on anyone who opposes them. Just look a Canada or England. I might be more amenable had he early on stated that he supports it but not now because the people supporting it will inflict harm on those in the opposition.

Posted by: BB Wolf My late uncle was a homosexual man. He was not effeminate or acted in silly way. He was a Reagan Republican. He was always nice to his mother (my grandmother), and when our family got together on Xmas Eve, my uncle and his friends were the life of the party (we knew his closest friends pretty well). When he died, his closest younger brother was heartbroken, as they had always been close (and he was straight), because his gay brother was always someone he could talk to. I don't blame the majority of homosexuals for this latest nastiness. Most of them are people just trying to get through life, like the rest of us. A relative handful of mouthy assholes has created this atmosphere of hostility. I don't know what makes people homosexual, and I don't really care, in the particular sense. Do you know why churches are in the "marriage business?" Because marriage is a unique contract unlike any other contract. A man and a woman make certain and specific vows (promises) to each other that include devotion and support and loyalty. These types of vows are sacred vows which a couple, a man and a woman, make to each other before God because they are that important. Well, they're supposed to be, anyway. I know MANY MANY Women in their 40's and 50's, who are suddenly all about Gender roles... when in the past they were big time Feminists... Why? because they were not happy.... And suddenly figured out a 'Manly' Man is what they really wanted all along.... just would not admit it to themselves... Thus bringing their programming in line with their 'higher faculties'.... relieving that (IMO) unneeded stress that our society placed on them, via its expectations. We need t acknowledge that programming exists... and then decide whether it is worth the unhappiness to go against that programming... Posted by: BB Wolf at April 03, 2015 06:46 PM (qh617) 195

Remember that the left is cray cray. Rationality/reason don't enter in to it. They don't want acceptance, they want overt affirmation. By everyone. Particularly Christians because historically they've been the most vocal about their abhorrence of homosexuality. I foresee (along with many others) a lot more trouble down this slippery slope and it's going to get uglier and GoFundMe's won't work because the next time it will be guys in SWAT gear serving a subpoena for records or enforcement of a judgment on a church or pastor. Then people are going to have to make some hard decisions. I always thought we would reach the boil over point due to the 2A dichotomy. Time for some moar math!!! "60 $817,000 Posted by: zombie at April 03, 2015 06:11 PM (K4YiS)" "195 $828,000. Posted by: zombie at April 03, 2015 06:46 PM (K4YiS)" So, in 35 minutes the GoFundMe total went up $11,000. At this rate, when will it hit exactly $1 million?? Easy to figure. 1,000,000 - 828,000 = 172,000 left to go. 172,000/11,000 = 15.63 time-units to reach $1 million. 15.63 x 35 minutes per time-unit = 547 minutes. 540 minutes = 9 hours Thus: 9 hours and 7 minutes from now! That will be 12:58am, just after midnight, West coast time! If we want to break the $1 million barrier before midnight, we've got to pick up the pace just a little bit! We should all take a breath and remember that it's not the sinner we hate it's the sin. And even that is abhorrence of only particular acts by certain people. There's also the inner voice of most of us saying that homosexuality is a choice (for most or many) and not the same as skin color or sexual organs. There's too much anecdotal evidence of "gayness" being a learned act and not an ingrained preference. I suspect that there is a disconnect at some point during an adolescents life that allows the normal exploratory thoughts when one is young to get mischanneled or misperceived and that a more permissive environment encourages this "faulty thinking". Forcing bakers to bake gay wedding cakes has nothing to do with gay marriage. It is about the state claiming the right to force them to do what it wants, and specifically, to do what the leftists running the government want. Said leftists don't want to bother Muslims, who are their allies. So this will only amount to something if someone sues or forces the government to bring action against Muslims in a state without religious freedom. What do homosexuals want in the public square?
They want acceptance, to be in the mainstream, to be acknowledged. Some of this is harmless, some of it is not. I don't really worry about people being 'sucked' into the homosexual lifestyle, because most of us are not wired that way. The underlyng assumption is that as Americans, we can't discriminate against people. Well, no. We all discriminate everyday. It's just that this is not the pop culture portrayal of how Real People live. That sort of discrimination is always portrayed as ungood, unless the target person or demographic is a pre-approved villain. Why are the Nazis always easy villains, but Soviet Communists are not? Why are southern white men always portrayed as some angry ignorant hick? Easy media stereotypes fill up the public imagination, but again, aren't really real, are they? Accept people as they are, and reject the easy path to making the stranger the "unperson'' to be villified. This "Alix Bryan" appears to be a childish adult, like many of her age. She has been given a measure of responsibility by her employer which she cannot manage. Regardless of her sexuality, she has displayed an appalling lack of good judgement. On the other hand, I have followed Nick Gillespie for a number of years from reading "Reason" (which I subscribed to 20 years ago) and seeing him on the TV. Calling him a Goth Fonzie is really being too kind. He's a vulgar pompous ass, revealing the dark nihilistic underside to what some call "Libertarianism". No society can long endure a null set of public morals; destroy them with childish intellectual relativism, and the society itself will implode, or be replaced with something much uglier. ********* The takeaway is that the urges in people's heads can't turn a perverse, wicked action into a virtuous action. Urges cannot justify or sanctify an action. Not in the area of sexuality, any more than anger justifies murder or desire for a possession justifies theft (or entitlements for that matter). And everyone knows this, except for spoiled children, animals and sociopaths. And now apparently homosexuals want to be added to that list. Take a hershey bar or equivalent hard chocolate from foreign parts (Toblerone, etc) and put it in a bag in the freezer for 10 minutes. Take out and bust it up with a hammer. Take 2 pieces of cinnamon raisin bread and begin toasting it. Heat up a pannini pan, toaster oven, or plain old George Foreman Grill. Take toasted bread out, cover one side with now-thawed crunched up chocolate. Put other slice of bread over it. Lightly butter the sides of bread, and put in the pan/oven/George F'n' Foreman Grill by God. Take it out after the chocolate melts. I have a theory that this will taste good, especially with milk. But then I'm no psychological/medical profession so what the hell do I know? Posted by: Bitter Clinger and All That The traumas leading to paraphilias can happen at any developmental age, but the most common is between 8 and 12 years old. If a child has a sexually-related trauma or unwilling experience during that time, it can color their "preferences" for the rest of their lives. Psychologists have known this for years. The famous original case is from Vienna in the early 1900s - -a woman was sexually aroused by being whipped, and by nothing else. She didn't know why. In therapy, she revealed that her father whipped her starting at age 8 as unishment for misbehaving, and if she consented uncomplainingly to the whipping, he would o=lavish her with praise and love, which he normally withheld from her. If she resisted the whipping, he would whip her anyway, but still act hateful toward her afterward. She came to associate liking being whipped with getting love from a man. As an adult, she therefore sought out sadists or abusive men, on purpose. That's the classic example. "Recruiters" have always known this as well, so the goal is to traumatize a pre-adolescent youngster, so they associate their first sexual feelings with a certain type of stimulation or experience -- even if it was all rapey and traumatic. This is how many people are "turned gay" -- by having a homosexual-type experience early in life. Posted by: zombie at April 03, 2015 07:03 PM (K4YiS) 248

In 1960, homosexual sodomy was a crime in all 50 states. 20 years ago, gay marriage was still just a fringe left-wing idea. 10 years ago, solid majorities still opposed it. Today, of course, it is the height of bigotry to oppose it. We've come a long way, baby.
It was amusing when on RFRA David Letterman said, "This isn't the Indiana I remember as a kid." Yes, 1950s Indiana was a gay-friendly utopia. A sodomy conviction could lead to a court declaring you a "criminal sexual psychopathic offender" and committing you to an institution. (The American Psychiatric Association listed homosexuality as a mental disorder until 1973.) The state did not repeal its sodomy statute, which referred to that most "abominable and detestable crime against nature." Young David Letterman would have been 29 years old then. That was the world then. Posted by: I Work for Dick Jones at April 03, 2015 07:04 PM (ZMbDb) 257

Here in Commiefornia, the ballot initiative to ban gay marriages drew higher support from blacks than from any other demographic. This is officially Not A Subject For Discussion among the local liberals. If it is brought up, they will mutter something about "well, you can't necessarily trust the polls on these issues," and hastily change the topic. Posted by: torquewrench at April 03, 2015 06:32 PM (noWW6) I might have mentioned this before...right after the Prop 8 decision came through my sister called me up in my cell and tore me a new one. Called me a homphobe, called the Mormon church evil names and accused them of buying the election and that I was complicit in it because I was a practicing Mormon. All sorts of vile things. This was my baby sis, my best friend in the whole world, accusing me of all sorts of things that were completely untrue. I remember just bursting into years, completely devastated SHE of all people could accuse me of such things, since she knew I of all Mormons was the last one that should be accused of homophobia. I know now that she just needed a target for her rage and she knew I was an easy mark, since I'm normally pretty passive. And I know lefty sites were filling her head with hateful lies. But it was unbearable, to have a loved one stab you in the heart like that. She hung up and I thought she'd never speak to me again. A few hours later she called me back, apologetic. Said that she knew I wasn't a homophobe, she was just really upset (no kidding, really! eyeroll.) Now that she had calmed down I could rationally explain to her what had really gone down, pulled out my stats. You know, FACTS. That the church hadn't bought the election, their monetary contributions to yes on 8 sources had leveled the monetary playing field only, not bought it. Both sides got their equal say in ads, was up to the voters to then decide. Mormons are roughly 10% of the population and many of them were voting no, like Steve Young and his wife, so more like 5-8% of CA Mormons were even voting yes at all. So what made up the gap, I asked her? Blacks and Hispanics, who voted overwhelmingly in favor of 8. Plus they had a larger than normal turnout because they wanted to vote for Obama. So in a way, you could if you wanted to blame Obama for 8 passing! She was flabbergasted because nowhere did anyone break down the demographics like that and explain the results to her. (Except here, thanks guys!) With facts on my side she finally saw the light. And then we both vented about Obama for a bit, which is always good times. I still had to heal emotionally from that experience, scars were still raw and bleeding, but we were finally back in good graces again. I love how the left, the side of the FACTS, always avoid them when need to sway LIVs emotionally to their side. Always. Yet WE are the side with the dumb rubes. "There's too much anecdotal evidence of "gayness" being a learned act and not an ingrained preference."
And the claims of the genetic gay trait have been false time after time, but there may be some of it that comes at birth, more in the nurture phase. I think early "imprinting" or the Freud stuff is more powerful than most realize. But that is still beyond just a pure adult "choice". Then there are the strictly choice people as well, and the if it feels good do it attitude that starts to degrade society, as I see it. So any tendency toward hedonism seems bad to me, which is where our Christian based culture seems important. The gay community can have their belief that it's purely holy as far as I'm concerned, but just give Christians the same choice. I've been involved in large groups with a lot of gay people and it was never an issue. But divide and conquer leftists insist on making it an issue to which Christians must comply, which is they main problem. (Except for the part about SSM people inheriting expensive rights to a public pension they didn't earn, which hetero marriages don't earn either, unless maybe they gave society well raised kids.) We're more like twins than sisters, super close. And suddenly I felt all alone in the world. It was the loneliness that was hardest to take, not the words themselves. But we patched it up. And now before gay legislation makes her ecstatic and/or stabby depending on verdict she calls me to hear the actual facts, since I am the political wonk between the two of us. Houston lesbian Mayor Annise Parker promised not to be a gay activist. (You can guess how that turned out.)
After the city council passed an ordinance making it a crime to deny someone access to, for example, a bathroom based on "gender identity", per local law, citizens submitted a petition to put the issue on the ballot. The city summarily declared many of the signatures "invalid" and, therefore, there wasn't the required number of signatures. The resultant litigation led to the subpoenas for ministers' sermons for evidence of anti-gay speech. The justification was that this would be electioneering in violation of IRS rules, as if the City of Houston was responsible for enforcing IRS rules. As was noted at the time, you can imagine the national furor if the City had subpoenaed Islamic imams' sermons for evidence of terrorism or the like. them to be attracted to the same sex as it was for me to be attracted to the opposite." Ricardo But that might be true even if it was a nurture thing that happened early. In a sense it doesn't matter, except that the family and raising children is rather central to culture and societal success, even apart from religion. So even an atheist designing his own culture might find it useful to have straight husband/wife marriages highly acclaimed. So someone here was commenting that blacks and Hispanics were voting for prop 8 ... they are the ones successfully reproducing themselves too. And the "every sperm is sacred" goof on Catholics does kinda correspond to the desire to grow the faith by reproduction. Public Accommodations laws are the problem. They seemed a necessary idea in the '60s, when lots of places either segregated or refused service to blacks altogether. The practice was so widespread, incorporated into state laws in parts of the South, that it was the fastest way to end overt discrimination.
But there is no political freedom without economic freedom, and vice versa. The two are inexorably intertwined. Neither can you be free politically without religious freedoms. There is a reason the Founders added all those protections, along with the independent judiciary and restrictions on police powers. Each is meaningless without the others. If a Jew can't refuse to bake a Hitler cake for a muslim in an ISIS tee shirt, if a devout Catholic has to cater abortion parties, if anyone of faith cannot decline to photograph a wedding he considers sinful, there is no freedom at all. Which is precisely what the Left aims to achieve. Posted by: Adjoran at April 03, 2015 07:56 PM (QIQ6j) 422

Carol, a little local human geography might help.
This place is big. We measure driving distances in time, not miles. One can easily drive for over an hour in a linear direction and never leave Houston. The city of Houston is mostly contained in Harris County. But there is a lot of Harris County that is unincorporated by Houston or any other municipality. In fact, if just the unincorporated parts of Harris County were formed into a city, it would be the 5th largest city in the nation, right behind Houston in population. So says our County Judge who is like the mayor of our county. But! The city of Houston long ago had designs on expanding out into all parts of Harris County Thus our infrastructure such as storm drains, post offices, water districts, and land development, are all called "Houston" and are subject to the city's extra-territorial jurisdiction. But! The city of Houston is flat busted financially and cannot now nor likely ever afford to annex any more parts of Harris County. They're done. So we in the county are in a unique, one-of-a-kind, even in Texas governmental situation. We weren't supposed to be this big and unincorporated. 1.7 million people living and working under a county government that is weak by design. The county cannot enact new laws on its own. The county has to go the the state for new laws and the state only meets for 180 days every other year. The rest of Texas doesn't want to take up all their precious legislative time passing laws that only affect the governance of Harris County so the county has to be very selective in advancing just the key things they want out of each legislative session. The result is a very conservative and hands off silly stuff county administration. But the giant skeeters, cockroaches, and high humidity do keep most of the out of towners from settling here. Mostly. Not to mention the occasional tropical depression or stray hurricane. :-) Posted by: Count de Monet at April 03, 2015 08:24 PM (JO9+V) Posted by: OregonMuse at April 03, 2015 08:26 PM (w2MRj) 510

Still doing that thing you do? With your butt? That's a GREAT thing! Wow! You rock! BA-ZING!" Good grief. Leftys really DO sound like the world is just a big kindergarten. Posted by: Sort-of-Mad Max at April 03, 2015 06:05 PM (DLu2s) OK, I laughed at this. A lot. You may also have hit on an excellent way to handle leftards of all stripes- "Hey, great to see you! You still empowering yourself by sleeping with random guys? Awesome! No, STDs yet? You rock, babe. You! Rock! " "Hey, great to see you! You still hate white people? Ooooh, ouch! Yeah, you rock! Cuz we suck! Keepin'. It. Real. Awesome!" Etc! Posted by: naturalfake at April 03, 2015 09:12 PM (KUa85) 528
Hey, it's not just gay marriage; ALL religious expression is now bad and must follow the law (or so I'm told).
Get the pasty white liberals in the rental van, truck them out to the reservations, and have the white man tell the Indians that their religion is crap, and peyote is illegal and they'll have to confiscate it all and stop that silly nonsense right now. I'm sure that'll go over well, Indians on reservations really like the white man coming and telling them what to do... they wont be upset. Have fun guys. And don't worry, I got the comprehensive insurance on the van rental... because of potholes or something, I'm sure you'll be fine.
