4 Good Morning Morons. Today is Friday, April 03, 2015. On this day in 1882 Jessie James was shot in the back of the head by Robert Ford. Ford himself was later killed by a man named Edward O'Kelly who called his name while his back was turned in a saloon and then fired both barrels of a shotgun into him.

5 Indiana and Arkansas have bowed to the Gaystapo and passed watered down versions of the religious freedom laws. They say it more closely resembles the federal law. I say BS. The original law that everyone raised hell about was virtually identical to the federal law.

And here's the real kicker: Gay-rights groups noted that Indiana's civil-rights law still does not include LGBT people as a protected class.

They want to be another lawyered up protected class just as everyone warned years ago and they denied.

28 One thing you should learn from watching American westerns is that shooting a man in the back is usually a cowardly thing to do. And with the worldwide popularity of our westerns, that means the whole world knows it too.

I wonder if part of the misplaced initial outrage over the Michael Brown shooting was related to early lies that he was shot in the back.

It doesn't feel right linking to a Ziegfeld Girl on Good Friday, so in lieu of that, let me suggest some listening and viewing suggestions for the weekend. The Ten Commandments, of course, as well as Ben-Hur, Franco Zeffirelli's Jesus of Nazareth and the animation / stop-motion film The Miracle Maker, which I mentioned yesterday.

Bach's St. Matthew Passion is a must, but there's also Via Crucis by Liszt as well as 1996s Via Crucis by ambient composer Richard Robbins.

There are a lot of programs out there that help you write a resume. Write one up and print on cheap paper first, then print it on good paper for submission to people you think who may be interested.

But I have heard that resumes are not the thing they used to be. Before I retired I had noticed a lot of, shall we say, "resume inflation". A lot of managers no longer believe them and rely mainly on interviews.

67 MP4, the best advice I ever had on resume writing was to make sure you had multiple resumes, highlighting different job functions/achievements, in order to get your foot in the door in more places. A 'one size fits all' resume usually doesn't do that.

Strive for a 1 page resume, unless you've done some really amazing work things. (SCOAMTs wouldn't even be one line.) Most times, more than 1 page resumes get tossed because 'TL;DR'. With each different resume, have a different intro/goal/desired job, with different bullet points. (Obviously, some bullet points are on all resume versions.)

On prior job descriptions, keep those descriptions in line with your current job, unless they were completely different. Keep the bullet points to prior jobs to a minimum, or else you look like you're still at that job.

Keep your verbs active, not passive. Also, since you still have your position, keep your verbs present tense, not past (unless you've had promotions and are describing a prior, lower position). Try to keep the bullet points simple and on one line.

Proofread the suckers three or more times, and have somebody else proofread it, too. Years ago, I went to Kinko's to write a resume (before home pc's were a thing). I actually misspelled my name, leaving out an 'r'. I had to scrap 50 resumes and go back to that Kinko's tghat same day to type up more resumes with my name spelled correctly.

Now cover letters are a whole other animule. Again, multiple letter outlines, with specifics for each company to which you're sending as resume. The cover letter should also be short and sweet, as it usually goes to HR, not the dept that has the job opening first. You're trying to get past HR barring your way.

Always follow up an interview immediately with a brief letter of thanks, highlighting any appropriate parts of the interview you just had. This shows you're dead serious about wanting the job and allows you to stick out from the rest of the candidates for just the cost of a postage stamp.

I've taken resume writing with some job search firms I've used before (paid for by my prior companies). I'll try to answer any specific questions you have.

Good luck.

Re watching The 10 Commandments, Glenn Beck hosted a rotund rabbi from Dallas on his TV show yesterday to discuss the Seder dinner. Said rabbi could only utter, "Oy," when discussing the Heston movie.

He laughed a lot and was a great teacher. He said he often tells observant Jews to give their kids a dollar for pointing out every misrepresentation/error in that movie.

The rabbi 'splained that the Passover meal is meant to "relive" the flight out of Egypt and is essentially the birth of the Jewish faith. It starts after sundown and IDEALLY lasts all night (but he said they usually pack it in around 3 a.m.)

Asked about his favorite part of the evening, he said, "The plagues." Did you know the plagues came in threes, with a week for the Egyptians to get their minds straight before the next round hit? All of his dinner guests "re-enact" the plagues, for example, throwing marshmallows (hail), and rubber frogs (he plugged the Oriental Trading Co.) among other things.

It was a fascinating show and well worth a buck to download if you don't have a GBTV subscription.

Yeah, I don't really understand why people are having such a hard time with this stuff. We live in a make up your own rules as you go along era. You people have no idea how hard it is for me to be gay, and NOT want to have sex with other men. It's painful, and you all make it more so when you discriminate against me for not being "normal" like all the other gay men. You would think gay men would be more understanding about this sort of thing. They're not. Sadly.

The way I look at it, the Federal government is about as legitimate as gay marriage.

Really? I wouldn't think that Hebrew would lend itself to such things - has such a limited vocabulary, with so much meaning determined by context, and such simple grammar, that it seems odd that anything would get lost in translation. English is usually much more specific than is Hebrew.

It is easy to find subtle distinctions between Greek and its English translation, much less so in Hebrew.

So, Obama is holding a Seder tonight, the day after he helped the enemies of Israel go fissionable:

The White House has not released its Seder guest list for this year, but members of Congress, major Jewish leaders and Israeli officials have not been included in Obamas prior Passover celebrations.

Instead, the 20 or so guests who usually attend in the 190-year-old Old Family Dining Room include first lady Michelle Obama, daughters Malia and Sasha, friends of the family, members of the presidents staff and their families. The group has largely remained the same every year. Attendees are a mix of Jews and non-Jews, including senior adviser Valerie Jarrett and Susan Sher, the former chief of staff to the first lady.

The White House dinner includes unique aspects including the reading of the Emancipation Proclamation.

I'd suggest using a resume service (there are plenty online.) I used one several years ago after going 2 years without so much as an interview. Thought my resume was fine, but when they finished with it, it was awesome. Started getting interviews within weeks and had a job after about 3 months.

Many employers don't even look at resumes--they are scanned first for keywords! A good resume service will set you back between $100-$300, but they know which keywords to use and the end result will be very professional.

Good luck, and hope all goes well!

I wish I would've jotted down the passages the rabbi was reading from Genesis, where he expanded on the meanings. One concerned God telling the Jews that they were going to be exiled and all the wealth would leave their country, but eventually, they and the wealth would return. This involved the seven-year famine, Joseph, and how the Egyptians were forced to buy water from the Jews (after that rivers turning to blood incident), thus starting the cycle of wealth coming back to the Jews who left.

Memorials to his so-called victory over the Hittites were erected all over the known world [of Egypt], a handful still exist in script (!), and it appears that Hebrew folk-poets merely took out Pharaoh and inserted Y--weh.

"With a mighty hand and an outstretched arm" (hear Heston saying that?) is demonstrably Pharaonic text. Well. This comes as a blow to KJV fans, and proponents of Bible-as-Literature everywhere. Living, breathing document?

Leave it to a hebe to stir this shit right at the High Holidays. And you thought conservatives were a herd of cats. Well, there's nothing new under the sun.
Wonder who that line is ripped off from. Some Sanskrit playwright?

I wish I would've jotted down the passages the rabbi was reading from Genesis, where he expanded on the meanings. One concerned God telling the Jews that they were going to be exiled and all the wealth would leave their country, but eventually, they and the wealth would return. This involved the seven-year famine, Joseph, and how the Egyptians were forced to buy water from the Jews (after that rivers turning to blood incident), thus starting the cycle of wealth coming back to the Jews who left.
Posted by: RushBabe at April 03, 2015 08:08 AM (zdw2Z)

It is my understanding that that elaboration doesn't specifically come from the nuances in the Hebrew text so much as from Rabbinical tradition. That's not to say he's incorrect. I wasn't there, so it possible his expansion on the text is absolutely accurate. And I'm Catholic, so I don't have objection to oral tradition. But the text in English, while missing some nuance and historical context (because some words and concepts in 2015 mean something very different than they did when the Scriptures were written), is very close.

152 Beyond satisfying their desire for control ad hate of religion, The War on Christians has a practical payoff for liberals. Between the massive increase in New Americans and ever more programs to advance POC, there will be a shortage of prime coveted positions in govt, academia and business to satisfy everybody qualified. Good way to make room is to automatically exclude Christians from even being considered for these jobs. By criminalizing Christian beliefs, they eliminate anybody with those views from even being considered using social pressure and govt rule and make sure there there are jobs for the new aristocracy. Liberals are willing to sacrifice the country for their beliefs but not at the expense of their careers, or their kids.

I fully expect in 10 more years to have PC Loyalty Review Broads interrogating people with "Are you now or have you ever been a member of a Christian church that..."

Have a master copy of your resume on file and a master cover letter and tweak the cover letter for each nob. Professional associations also have job posting lists so see if you can access those related to your field of work. Take care of yourself and stay positive. That always shows.

So the only three questions left regarding Teh SCOAMT, Israel and the UN are:

- Will the ObamiNation sponsor the coming resolution kicking Israel out of the UN?

- Will the ObamiNation sponsor the succeeding resolution demanding all UN member nations use every means available to remove Israel from the face of the Earth?

- Will that second resolution come before or after the 2016 election?

If my business decision regarding whether or not I will serve someone who is participating in an event which is, to me, sacrilege/heresy/blasphemy means I am a bigot, how does simply not liking a particular ethnicity's food *not* make me a bigot?

My business decision about not participating in an event may or may not have to do with the persons of the people involved (whether I happen to "like" them or not), so how does it -in itself- reflect that I am a bigot?

And if it does -in itself- reflect that I am a bigot, then how is choosing not to participate in much more routine commerce with a different set of people (by not purchasing their cuisine) *not* reflect that I am a bigot?

346 MPPP, sorry to hear about your uncertain job situation. I've been through this twice now, and in my experience, the best way to find a new job is through networking -- put the word out that you're looking. Don't directly ask for a job, ask for advice about who might be looking for a guy with your talents. In that situation, the resume should showcase your experience without raising any red flags -- omit dates of schooling, etc., and perhaps even any job more than 15-20 years in the past. The resume is only a tool to get you into the interview; that's where you're going to sell yourself. Best of luck.

Actually, the reason the Fed isn't raising interest rates yet (and won't until after the 2016 election) is Teh SCOAMT isn't done with his deficit spending yet. Can you imagine trying to finance $18T in debt if the $13T that is publicly-held were paying even the 4-5% interest the $5T in intragovernmental debt is paying, much less the 7+% it would be paying without the Fed's manipulation?

I may have mentioned before that as a brand new vice-consul in an Embassy, I was adjudicating an immigrant visa, which resulted in a denial. The visa seeker was being sponsored by family members who were on welfare, and according to our laws and regulations, we were not supposed to give visas to those individuals who did not have financial support independent of the government. I got a call from the congress critter representing that district these scumbags were leeching from, who wanted to know why I couldn't issue the visa. and then demanded I do it. I said that I would as long as he was okay with me taking out an ad in the local paper that stated he was okay with bringing in non-citizens for his citizen constituents to pay for. He hung up on me, and I never heard back from him. I did not issue the visa.

Today, I would probably be investigated, and someone else would issue the visa, for that poor fellow to help his poor family.

Because to the people who like to scream bigotry about nearly everything, your decision wouldn't be merely a "business" decision or a matter for free individual choice. To them, it'd be a moral decision -- and one judged by their own flawed, fluid, and subjective morality, that brooks no dissent.

451 Also the love triangle between Ruskin, Millais, and Effie. Ruskin wdnt boink his teen bride, so Millais stepped in.

For many years, it was taught that Ruskin, the classics scholar, had only seen the nude female form as portrayed in Grecian sculpture and never realized that women have pubic hair. Supposedly, it was this revelation on their wedding night that disgusted Ruskin and caused him to reject Effie.

Of course, the story is nonsense; any classics scholar worth their salt would have known the Greeks didn't depilate (that was actually more of an Egyptian custom) and there are many female statues extant with pubic hair carved in.

It's now generally believed (and,so far as we know, might be just as much of a supposition) that Effie was having her period and it was the flow of blood that caused Ruskin's reaction.

And, unless they're pretty plugged in it's easy to imagine that they wouldn't even *think* about death threats.

One should not have to worry about death threats for expressing a sincerely held Religious belief.

It is one thing to realize you're a business and moderate your language according to your clientele , but it's something else to have to self-censor because people who have never heard of you might issue death threats.

494 Actually, the reason the Fed isn't raising interest rates yet (and won't
until after the 2016 election) is Teh SCOAMT isn't done with his
deficit spending yet. Can you imagine trying to finance $18T in debt if
the $13T that is publicly-held were paying even the 4-5% interest the
$5T in intragovernmental debt is paying, much less the 7+% it would be
paying without the Fed's manipulation?
=======

That's the Math talking that we all keep referring to--why it's _already_ burning.

See, I'm old enough to remember 5% CD's at the bank. For years now, you're damned lucky to find a special offer 1% CD. Most are still .5% or less.

At a 5% T-bill, near as I can tell, 90-100% of revenue will go just to pay the interest payments.

I think we've even passed the point (or soon will) where we could have inflated our way out of this. (That is, a less than 50% inflation rate.)

Posted by: RoyalOil at April 03, 2015 10:21 AM (ZvKdv)

495 The problem with talking to reporters is that they are reporters who have no friggin clue what they are talking about (for example, read an article written by a reporter about something you do and notice the number of errors and general ignorance) and guaranteed to, at best, misunderstand you, and more likely to take your statement intentionally out of context, misquote you or fabricate a statement and attribute it to you.

500 So Hasselbeck came out on Easter weekend and stated the Christian church is built on not Jesus Christ, but on Peter. That's of course Catholic doctrine, started about 150 years ago, saying little pebble petros) Peter, really was the same as foundation rock JC petra.

I wouldn't be called a solid "Christian" exactly, but putting the Pope between man and God is a problem. Especially with the pope promoting AGW and social justice.

Peter wanted to be leader on earth, JC scoffed said he was but a pebble, and Peter would deny him before the cock crowed. The old testament "prophesies" the stone rejected by the builders, the same is made head of the corner (JC the petra). It's JC that was rejected by men, including Peter denying him. JC said where he goes, Peter could not come.

Fortunately Catholics now let men read the Bible on their own and Americans tend toward thinking on their own (e.g. birth control). But for much of the world the Pope's message tends a little toward Marxism, which is a concern. Government and religion need to be decentralized.

So at Easter of all times, for Hasselbeck to claim "The Church" (meaning Catholicism is the one true Christian church) is built on "Pope Peter" is a little too much. Peter is the grain of sand blown about with every wind of doctrine, denying JC thrice before he'd died. The "head of the corner" as prophesied in the OT has to be JC, not impetuous Peter. The Pope does not speak "ex cathedra", and is certainly not infallible.

We've come a long way baby lol.

Happy Easter

501 MPPPP:

It was four years ago that I got the job that I got after being laid off. I'd announced the layoff here, but I never announced my return to work. Until now. Better late than never, I guess.

With respect to resumes, I don't know the sorts of things you do. I do technology, so much of my advice won't be relevant. I hope you can use some of it.

My first bit of advice is to basically ignore all advice. My opinion is that nobody knows anything about getting hired. Do what seems right and hope for the best.

What I did was I created a document that had ALL of my work experience in it. I try to keep it up to date, even. Then, when a job possibility was offered, I'd go through and perhaps add some keywords but mostly I'd remove experience that wasn't relevant.

I added keywords because most technical jobs are run through a keyword sieve. If it says "scripting languages" and you put "Python" the match fails and, even though Python is a scripting language you don't get called for an interview. Note that I'm not claiming stuff I don't have, I'm just making sure that my description of my experience matches what they're looking for.

I remove irrelevant experience because I've learned that if I put both system administration and programming experience on my resume, the guys looking for programmers will focus on my admin experience and use it to reject me while the guys with admin jobs will focus on my programming experience and use it to reject me. My goal is to not give them a reason to reject me, so I highlight what they're looking for and put the other stuff off somewhere so it's deemphasized.

That's all I got.
