If people are willing to come forward with evil thoughts and intentions and announce them publicly, why wouldn't we let them? Its is fine to want to eliminate evil from the Earth, but ~~shilling~~ banning hateful speech doesn't do this -- it only drives evil underground.

24 I think most displays of the Battle Flag on private property are indeed giant FUs countering the prevailing groupthink (I even saw one flying in the hinterlands of Maui recently). Yes, I'm an old fart raised on the Lost Cause version of the Late Unpleasantness. One of my ancestors lost an arm in the Wilderness and another was wounded at Shiloh and spent a year as a guest of the Federal Government at Camp Chase and Camp Dearborn. I WILL NOT be ashamed of those men.

I understand that the flag is a symbol of other things to other people and I don't personally display it. But if someone else does, that's their business.

No, that is the 13 star version of the first flag (not counting the Bonny Blue) of the Confederacy. The first first flag had 7 stars and stars added as states joined.

The second flag had the battle flag as a canton on a white field, the third same as the second but with a vertical white stripe on the end opposite the canton.

There are a handful of Wake Forest alumni/boosters who are big baseball fans, members of all the University Clubs, etc., but also like to drink beer with their spectating. Forbidden inside the Wake stadium. So, through years of attrition/compromise, a balance has been struck. They, now we, are allowed to stand on stepladders along the right field wall, adjacent to the parking lot, and drink beer as long as it's nominally concealed in "Cozies". I caught one game with the guys last year, but this time I'm bringing my own step-ladder, make it official. Wake vs. BC at 4 pm.

A couple hibachis, a few big coolers, a card table set up for chips and dip. 175 The "Stainless Banner", the National Flag of the democratically elected and lawfully seceded (per the Constitution's guarantees) Confederate States Of America.
As others have pointed out, this is one of several flags the young CSA adopted in its short lifespan, but probably the one most Confederates associated afterwards.

Bonus Point: Statists and Lincoln-worshippers can misread the Constitution or claim it 'should not apply', but the right of Confederate Texas to secede was indisputable, as the right to withdraw from the Union AT ANY TIME FOR ANY REASON was guaranteed to Texas when that then-sovereign independent Country agreed to join the USA as a State via international Treaty...the only State to do so. And this only a few years before the War broke out.
Under no stretch of imagination can Lincoln have had the right to invade Texas with a hostile army after that State lawfully voted to invoke its 1848 Treaty Rights in 1861 and withdrew from the Union...just as the 1848 Treaty with USA guaranteed it the right to do.

176 The flag is the Stars and Bars (the first national flag of the CSA), but with 13 stars, representing the 13 states that the Confederacy claimed as members (including Kentucky and Missouri, each of which had competing state governments--one which seceded and joined the Confederacy, and one which remained loyal to the Union).
