I think often about that era when I think of the modern global warming panic. Freeman Dyson, a notable climate-change skeptic today, learned fairly early on regarding government officialdom and their confident statements.
Dyson was detailed out to Bomber Command in the UK as a boffin doing mathematical and statistical analyses in what was then termed "operations research". There were successes in this field during the war, in combatant commands where the higher-ups listened attentively to the OR reports, but not so much at Bomber Command.
Looking at aircrew loss rates from missions over occupied Europe, Dyson quickly figured out that the belly hatch of the Lancaster bomber, through which half the aircrew were expected to bail out from a stricken aircraft hit by flak, had simply too small a cross-section to allow a man in bulky night high weather flying gear, plus parachute, to get out quickly. RAF airmen were getting stuck in the hatch, and blocking the hopes of exit of their mates behind them. Lethally for all.
No one wanted to hear Dyson's ideas or his inexpensive fix of simply installing an enlarged hatch on the assembly line. Doctrine was doctrine! The bombers were the best available! Victory impended! As night after night, men died for no good reason, falling out of the cold dark sky, trapped in plummeting aircraft.

Instead of condemning them, perhaps we should emulate them.

The NRA has always made it a policy to support politicians that are "Pro-2A" regardless of party. They did so because they didn't want to be painted as being for only 1 party. It served them well for many years, but the last 10-15 not so well.
They need to face the facts that Dems are all anti-gun in deed no matter what they say in words.
The NRA backed Gillibrand because her chubby ass was the best they could hope for in that seat at that time. I'm sure if someone relevant ran against her, the NRA would support them.

I support the GOA because the NRA sometimes squishes out. But I can't deny that they've gotten results.
I'd rather support an NRA that occasionally squishes out on tactical matters, but strategically wins, than give money to a tactically pure group that constantly loses on strategic matters.
They've actually been increase the liberty we enjoy. While one might bitch and complain about this, that, or the other, that they are more deserving of money than almost any other conservative organization who have demonstratively failed, is IMHO unequivocal.
NRA gets results. NRA gets my money. Moral purity is s**t if it doesn't result in moral results.

In 1967, Dylan got together with some friends, and recorded some music privately that was never intended to be released to the public. I can't read Dylan's mind, so I can't say whether he is a conservative or not. It's certainly possible that he doesn't pay much attention to politics. But if I were a betting man, that's how I would bet. I am quite certain that he is not a leftist.

Here is how you stop the NRA junk mail. Pay attention, and use the EXACT instructions and wording I'm going to post here.
1. Call the membership desk, over and over again, till you get an English speaking, U.S. based representative.
2. Tell them you want your membership to be CODED as "NO PROMOTIONS".
3. Have them read your instructions back to you, and have them confirm after a screen update, that your membership has now been so coded in the system.
The effects will show in about 45/60 days. The junk mail will fall off to nothing, and the annoying calls will cease altogether.

They will say stuff to get them all worked up but once they are elected, they will betray them whenever it is convenient because they know that they are a dependable voting block.
That is why Ace's proposal to identify a half dozen or so of the worst squish RINO Congressmen in red districts should be targeted every election for defeat, first in primaries and then in the general election is a winning strategy. Congressmen will work hard to stay off that list.

Would you rather they be holistic and purge anyone with a pro-RKBA track record because they are impure in one way or another, and thus concede their own stated goals?
For all of their supporting Dems who were not conservatives on non-RKBA matters, they have none-the-less done more to expand liberty than any purist organizations.
To put it bluntly, a "pure" organization harms liberty, while the NRA and other pro-RKBA organizations have helped it.
Again... they get results. They have actually expanded liberty.

Your argument is along the lines of arguing that antibiotics are useless because they don't cure cancer. The NRA does one thing and does it well. I wish that we had other organizations to protect the other amendments in the Bill of Rights. I used to think that the Republican Party was interested in doing that but I am less naive today. Organizations like FIRE seem to be effective at defending the First Amendment but they are pretty small and can only do so much. Perhaps they could form the nucleus of an NRA type First Amendment Association. The ACLU was founded by a Communist for the purpose of making mischief so that is not an option.

He was polite and obviously very intelligent. I couldn't begin to guess his political leanings but I doubt that someone as smart and decent as he seemed to be is a hard-core leftist.

Speaking of Steve Kroft, I heard that Patriots owner Robert Kraft testified today at Aaroon Hernandez's trial. I don't know what he said.
But yesterday Hernandez's fiance testified and oh boy it was something. She was questioned about why and where she removed a box from the house. She said couldn't remember where she dumped the box.
But the weird part is that there's video of her in the house retrieving the box for disposal! This idiot Hernandez apparently has cameras all over his house and it recorded everything!!

Most of what I play is orchestral, so I have very little to no control over the repertoire.
Solo-wise, I play most of the Bach suites upon request, which is handy because they are stand-alone pieces in themselves, requiring no accompaniment. If I am asked to play, Bach is usually what comes out.
I've gotten away from giving recitals in the last couple of years, due to external events, but I am thinking of getting back to it if I can find a pianist. I've not yet had a chance to perform any of the standard concerti, but I do play them.
Bluegrass, Rock, Folk, and New Music are also possibilities...

Most of the rep involves other instruments. Imagine your favorite Beatles song as performed by just one instrument, and you'll see what I mean.
The six Bach suites are written explicitly for solo cello, which makes them good demonstration pieces. I also play one of Britten's solo suites, and I am considering learning Kodaly's solo sonata to branch out.
Lots of great music exists for piano and cello, but you really do need both instruments to make that happen.

Back composed volumes and volumes of stuff merely to prove a point about a particular instrument. The best example is his book "The Well-Tempered Clavier" which argued for "tempered" rather than "harmonic" tuning -- and provided 24 preludes and fugues (one each in every major and minor key).......and, here's the punchline.....they were all awesome and enjoyable musical works that are still played today. So, when he sat down and said, "right, then -- solo cello", you got a solid repertoire for solo cello.

Next thing I knew, I'm receiving posts from both my mom and my dad, who have both voted for Obama, both times. I have not talked to them via phone for the past almost two years.

Oh, and I hit 57 on Easter Sunday. And I still have a lawn, just a few lawns removed from the first one.
That said, I've been thinking real hard about trading in the lawn for a fresh expanse of saltwater. Lived aboard my late, lamented New Dawn for seven years, before getting this house.
Looking the boat listings, and trying to reconcile things like a huge-ass gunsafe, cast iron table saw, 5/8", 16 spd industrial drill press and other capital tools, with the space limitations of a 40 ft- 55 ft yacht, be it power or sail.
Storage room ashore seems to be one answer, but lacks mobility.
All in all, I will this time likely build a 2 ft by 4 ft box, about four inches deep, and keep a patch of Bermuda grass growing therein.
So, even at the docks, I can point to my lawn and say: "You. Off. Now."
Yeah, I'd be the Moron with a lawn on his boat. Seems fitting, right?

By definition, a "unison" in music is when two pitches have the same frequency, for a ratio of 1:1.
The next simplest interval is an octave, in which the higher note vibrates twice as fast as the lower (2:1). The closeness of the ratio makes an out-of-tune octave instantly obvious.
The next simplest interval is a fifth (3:2).
The opening interval of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" is an octave, the opening interval of "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star) is a fifth.
Now, if you string together a series of fifths, all in the same direction, you will eventually get back to the same letter-name note, seven octaves higher.
But there's a catch:
The math doesn't work.
No multiple of the 3:2 ratio (9:4, 27:8, etc) will ever work out to the even ratio required for an octave (2:1, 4:1, 8:1, etc). If you go there by fifths, the pitch is different than if you go there by octaves.
That difference is called the "Pythagorean comma," and it is the common fault line that runs through all of the different tuning systems developed for fixed-pitch keyboard instruments.

) by leaving and leaving them be.The last time I attempted to be a family member, I was instantly treated as if I was 5 and had no brains or sense.
(sister) Ignored her bullying and nonsense until she became disruptive at my work and disobeyed my instructions to not call me there.
When the company folded (no connection as far as I know) I left and did not give her my new address/phone.
Back to my previous years of blissful silence from that quarter.
(To be fair she dislikes/disapproves of me as much as I do of her.)
