New Daily Show Host Examined For... Offensive Tweets
I just realized I saw Trevor Noah do his standup for a few minutes. He's one of those comedians who does nothing but Jokes About What He Is. Like when you see a Fat Comic and he does nothing but jokes about being fat. Or a Mexican comic who does nothing but jokes about the differences between Mexicans and Anglos.
Trevor Noah is half-white, half black, and from South Africa. So I saw him do five minutes on being half-white, half-black, and from South Africa. Then I turned it off because, seriously, who cares. None of it was funny. In the brief spot I saw, he didn't do much that was controversial or political. The word I would use is "cloying." He really wanted people to like him. He's been named as the new, younger, soooo much cheaper host of The Daily Show. I kind of would like him to succeed just to prove that Jon Stewart's audience are Clapping Seals so it doesn't matter what is said on the show, as long as it flatters their politics. I'm sure you're really tired of hearing how a-MAZ-ing Jon Stewart is at yelling, doing the dumb guy voice, tapping a pencil, and making silly faces at the camera. It would be nice to see that someone else can yell, do the dumb guy voice, tap a pencil, and make silly faces at the camera too. But Noah's now being scrutinized by the SJWs for tweetcrimes. They say his tweets are offensive. I have to say these tweets offend me, too. They're very unfunny. They're the sort of things that unfunny people tweet when they want to be funny.On Twitter, where he has had an account since 2009 and accumulated more than two million followers, Mr. Noah often posts irreverent statements that reflect his interests in popular culture, global politics and issues of race. As with many comedians, Mr. Noah's jokes can test the boundaries of what is socially permissible and what is in bad taste. In several posts, Mr. Noah came across as mocking or derisive of women. In one from 2011, he writes: "Oh yeah the weekend. People are gonna get drunk & think that I'm sexy!" a quote that he attributes to "fat chicks everywhere." In another post from last year, he quotes another Twitter user who writes, "When a woman is loved correctly, she becomes 10 times the woman she was before," to which Mr. Noah adds: "So she gets fat?" Mr. Noah has also posted jokes about Jewish people and about Israel. As he wrote in 2009, "Almost bumped a Jewish kid crossing the road. He didn’t look b4 crossing but I still would hav felt so bad in my german car!" Another post from 2010 reads, “South Africans know how to recycle like israel knows how to be peaceful.” ... Others seemed to shrug off these posts simply as unfunny. ... Others pointed out that he also has made fun of Americans, South Africans and people from numerous other countries. When a fan tweeted at him last October, asking him to please come to Texas, Mr. Noah replied, "But you've already got Ebola?" ... Mr. Noah seemed aware on Tuesday of the controversy surrounding his tweets. Just before 9 a.m. Eastern time, he posted: "Twitter does not have enough characters to respond to all the characters on Twitter." The tweet was deleted shortly after.When I first saw this guy, I thought English was his second language and he was playing for the Yakov Smirnov Southern Division slot. You see what I mean? What person, who is not either eight years old, or eighty eight years old, is delighted by the characters/characters pun? More: Ezra Levant Asks, "Is This Funny?:" But he's curious as to those anti-Jew jokes -- are these just "pleasing the audience" clapter jokes for his audience, given that Noah performs on what Levant calls the "Muslim dictatorship comedy tour," Oman, etc.? One joke that Levant reads that I think is so-so funny -- not really in the class of the jokes that are plainly unfunny -- was his crack about watching women's Olympic hockey being like "watching lesbian porn, but without the porn." That's not a side-splitter or anything but it is something of a joke. I wouldn't call that one completely unfunny. A lot of these other ones, though... Man, these are terrible.

I actually watched part of his standup yesterday and some of it was pretty funny. He is overly obsessed with his background, but the bit about trying to learn german by listening to mp3s in his sleep and realizing they were hitler speeches was pretty funny.

ComCentral put out a press releases after the premiere about how good it did -- as ppl tuned in to see the new guy, or just forgot Colbert was gone.
But they haven't put out any press releases about his awesome TV ratings since then. Which pretty much guarantees they suck.

Sometime listen to the comedy radio station while driving, and it is amazing how bad and unclever a lot of comedians are - especially the ones who feel the need to mock safe targets like Christians, Republicans, Jews, etc., like Trevor Noah. It's the ones who can get beyond the identity jokes that are funny.

I said this the other day in a random thread, but I think it was a mistake for them not to hire Jessica Williams as the host. She put in her dues there, she will have a better pulse on American politics than Noah, and I think a lot of female SJWs expected her to get the gig. I don't really find her hysterical but then I'm not the lib LIV audience they are going for.
Personally I thought John Hodgman would be in intriguing possibility as replacement host, but then I like his nebbishy wry wit. Also because subconsciously I love white patriarchy, I suppose, hah.

Why do we have so many non americans with tv shows? It's getting ridiculous. How do American comedians feel about it? It's not like him or Cordon (who's debut I watched and though it sucked) have any special talent. They are no Craig Ferguson who was very good and became an American. Hell, taking citizenship is no big deal when they allow you to have dual citizenship.

It gives one an excuse to be rude, emotional, and irrational while making wild accusations of your own. Most normal people don't go out of their way to offend people and when they do they are usually appalled and apologize. which is what the falsely offended want.
It is a type of power but it depends on the good nature of those being falsely accused. If they ever display a WGAF attitude then its over.

It's CBS' long history of hiring non-Americans to "tut-tut" us about how we vote (for the non-Socialists/communists).
Plus, Comedy Central has really been on the skids the last year or so. Brickleberry is getting cancelled. South Park airs about 5 new episodes a year. Kroll show's final season sucked big time. Almost all their other shows are SJW approved snoozefests.
Workaholics still remains funny, but CC will probably cancel that after this season to make room for some other SJW lame comedy.
Funny that almost all of the highest rated shows/specials are the "Blue Collar" comics or Jeff Dunham, but CC only plays them during sweeps when they need their ratings.

Well, I think in some circles that's where we are. Noah seems to have developed his style in a world where casual anti-Semitism is only slightly edgy, or possibly mostly inoffensive.
A lot of comedians try to find the edge of permissibility and step a toe over and then turn to the audience with a "Did I just say that?" smirk. The problem for Noah, I think, is that the edge is in a different place over here. So instead of being cheeky or irreverent it's just wrong.

I just attribute it to cowardice. They know they won't get any real shit for jokes about Jews or Christians. But they're scared of muslims. One of my best friends in college was a kid from Uganda. He was always at a loss to understand black Americans to him. He simply could not understand their views on a lot of things, race in particular. The funniest thing was watching members of an all-black fraternity try and recruit him. I think they would have had better luck and less frustration recruiting a Klan member.

Because society is mainstreaming antisemitism and anti-christian-ism. It's okay - in some cases even celebrated - to make fun of the Jews or Christians.
Even setting aside Mohammedans (because Mohammedanism is an evil death cult), it is *not* accepted to mock blacks (unless you're black AND recognized as "down with the struggle") or Hispanics (unless you're Hispanic and recognized as "down with the struggle").
Now, that doesn't make all jokes at the expense of Jews and Christians not funny. And comedy should be judged on if it is funny.

ComCentral put out a press releases after the premiere about how good it did -- as ppl tuned in to see the new guy, or just forgot Colbert was gone.
But they haven't put out any press releases about his awesome TV ratings since then. Which pretty much guarantees they suck.

His ratings are about 3/4 of what Colbert's were, but that is probably because Stewart is still hosting the Daily Show. Once Stewart leaves, both shows will be in a free fall.

People keep touting their low ratings as proof they are irrelevant, but I never thought that argument worked. Their power comes from Comedy Central cutting up the show into palatable bites, and disseminating that via vids the next day. Those vids then get dispersed everywhere and shared via the LIVs that way. Use social media not cable eyeballs to spread the lefty message far and wide.
I have never understood why FOX never did the same with Red Eye, wasted opportunity.

The part of a standup I watched was funny. I think he has it in him to be likeable, if he sticks to what he knows and stays away from too much american politics.

One of the best take-downs I ever saw occurred at a pub in Kenya. A couple of blacks from the ship came in and run a ahuch 'n jive routine to the black bartender. He responded with a heavy "British Butler type accent "I beg your pardon". The two blacks turned around and walked out.

Also, the law in my opinion should have been written in a more specific way that allowed people to basically not have to participate in the ceremony of a gay wedding. That's really what the purpose of the law was about and it would have been much harder to have made the case that Americans should be forced to be a part of a gay wedding against their conscience.
It was just too open ended and was easy to mischaracterize. I don't think any conservative wants a law that allows them to say not serve a person based on their sexual orientation, it was about being forced to be a part of something people found sacrieligious.

Well, kinda sorta, but not really. The law is being framed as Christian Bakers against Gays, but really it is much further reaching. Click on the link in my sig. Similar laws have been used to defend everyone from long haired children to Jewish prisoners.
It's about making sure there is a constitutional balance between the interests of the state and the free exercise of religion.
Of course, those are a lot of big words and our electorate is made up of the cast of "Ow, My Balls" so...yeah.

People keep touting their low ratings as proof they are irrelevant, but I never thought that argument worked. Their power comes from Comedy Central cutting up the show into palatable bites, and disseminating that via vids the next day. I think that's the best way to put it. Its not anti-semetic, he just doesn't find some topics uncomfortable and unpleasantly close to being so.
There's more than a few areas in the world where the holocaust is either largely unknown or considered a big white man fake. Especially places like India, Japan, etc they think Hitler was not such a bad guy after all and the English in particular made up all that stuff up about death camps.
I would not in any remotest sense be surprised to find that is where Mr Noah gets his cultural background on Jews from.

People were lauding the SNL jab at Starbucks on Saturday, but it seemed to me it was just another mean spirited attempt to poke fun at all of the targets you mention. Yeah the right tends to over react about how gut bustingly hilarious something is at Daily Show or SNL whenever they remotely come close to sort of nudging on maybe mocking their usual protected targets. Its the same kind of laughter the Daily Show audience explodes with for every Jon Stewart raised eyebrow: I am supposed to laugh here because it helps my side.

to me it was just another mean spirited attempt to poke fun at all of
the targets you mention.
Yeah, thought the skit was funny because it hightlighted the whole "just do your job and not preach to me" aspect of the Starbucks campaign. But there was definitely the slam that stoopid white car mechanics are funny when you make them express their feelings on gender issues - they chose to *not* pick on a more traditionally Lefty/elitist establishment, such as, say, having Amazon customer support or Siri engaging in social talk w/consumers.

Yep, that about nails it. It was never "only about" visitation and insurance issues. That was just the first order of business, as my gay co-workers told me.
And they had negative interest in "marriage" per se.
"Gay marriage" only benefits 1) sentimental old queens who don't want to compete anymore, 2) their gay wedding consultants, and 3) their divorce lawyers.

I've been to Soweto. There's a big dump where dirt poor blacks live, a few feet away from neat, colorful, nicely kept suburban homes that working blacks live in, and a few miles from the mansions the Mandelas lived in. It's a big, diverse place, but the MSM only shows you the dump.

When the show is aired on Comedy Central, Comedy Central does not have to pay for the rights to use the footage from other networks because they are not profiting directly from someone else's property. Once that show is sold to Nefflix, Hulu, or Amazon Prime, then Comedy Central is directly profiting from the other networks' property and must pay them restitution.
If you look back at old TV shows, one of the problems they had when DVDs/VHS came along was the music rights.
Example, these two clips from SNL:

Notice the different music?
The first one aired on NBC, and can use "Beautiful Girls" by Van Halen because SNL/NBC are using the song as part of the show, but not directly profiting since they pay licensing fees to ASCAP/BMI/SESAC.
The Hulu clip uses standard production music which SNL bought and can profit off as much as they like.
