I would like to think that Tom Cotton would not think of himself as either a hero or tragic. He just did what he thought was right (and it was) but of course Obama , as he usually does, will blame everybody . Hopefully, if Tom Cotton wishes to stay in politics he already knows that anyone who dissents from the Obama plan will be demonized.

Saudi's Go To War In Yemen
How could this happen with a Nobel Peace Prize winner in the WH? Munch on this: Question: How many U.S. presidents have won the Nobel Peace Prize? Answer: The first Nobel Peace Prizes were handed out in 1901. Since then, 97 people and 20 organizations have received the honor, including three sitting U.S. presidents: Theodore Roosevelt: Roosevelt, who was in office from 1901-09, was awarded the prize in 1906 "for his successful mediation to end the Russo-Japanese war and for his interest in arbitration, having provided the Hague arbitration court with its very first case." Woodrow Wilson: Wilson, who was in office from 1913-21, was awarded the prize in 1919 for founding the League of Nations, the predecessor to the United Nations. Barack Obama: Obama, who began his term in 2009, was awarded the prize just months later "for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples." The prize has also gone to one former U.S. president: Jimmy Carter: Carter, who served one term from 1977-1981, was awarded the prize in 2002 "for his decades of untiring effort to find peaceful solutions to international conflicts, to advance democracy and human rights, and to promote economic and social development." *choke* extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples *choke* This really is the biggest punchline of all jokes ever told. How are we supposed to handle sexual assault accusers who won't cooperate?
Easy, Even Sullivan does not allow this kind of shit. In most States filing a false accusation of a felony is a felony in itself. If they make the accusation in public as this scrunt did then a civil suit for libel is in order and Sullivan does not apply. She was not reporting "news". How are we supposed to handle sexual assault accusers who won't cooperate?
How about we prosecute them, or at least assess civil penalties against them for all the taxpayer time and money wasted on investigating their bogus stories. At the very least, why don't we stop pretending that they are "victims" and insisting that "something bad still might have happened" to them, after it becomes patently obvious that the accuser is nothing more than a bald-faced liar (see, e.g., Jackie of UVA, the stripper at the Duke Lacrosse party, mattress girl, etc.). I'm so damn sick of this PC nonsense that demands we tip-toe around the feelings of frauds, liars, and psychopaths who use phony rape claims to try and gain sympathy, or elicit the attention of some man who doesn't want them, or excuse their poor school or work performance, or get revenge on some man who dissed them, or justify their slutty behavior that they regretted the morning after, or whatever. Why, no, Officer, those aren't weapons. Those are just my shoes, hairspray and a lighter. Why do you ask?
That Angry Left column pretty neatly sums it up. I'll add one tiny bit. Most of us on the Right, even those whose primary identity is Moron, do not believe that the personal is per se political and, in fact, worry that we are letting politics bleed too much into what truly matters. The Left views everything as political and thus there is no escape. That will drive you nuts. For example, last night I'd had it and walked away from ye olde internets for the night and watched a movie (Godzilla the new one raaawwwrr) because I found myself getting so worked up over everything. The Left is incapable of doing that. Hell, the Left can't just plain old enjoy the stompy stompy atomic fire breathy without having to be all allegorical with it. That is no way to live. I had not previously considered the intersection of privacy statements re: no selling of personal data vs. the bankruptcy trustee's obligation to monetize every possible asset coupled with preemption. The elegant solution is to amend bankruptcy law to require that any statement on sale of personal data by the company be honored in bankruptcy but that's sane so that won't happen. Shall ponder. I maintain my position that of course those in the media are confused that a politician would, get this, obey a law he doesn't like. C'mon, everyone knows that doesn't happen. VDH, imo, is letting his Shakespear get the best of him. His analysis may be right, but I believe his conclusion is wrong. Cotton isn't in a lose, lose position. Sure he may be being used by Obama as a foil, but he still has plenty of opportunity to turn this around on Obama and shove it up his ass and Obama is a much greater target of opportunity for Cotton, if he takes his shot, because of the fact that Obama, no matter how insulated his cadre of protectors try to keep him, can't help but shit all over himself. Cotton will come out of this pissing contest pretty dry compared to Obama. That's my bet.

And because I simply was too tired to read the rest of the Robertson thread, (Athiests and Theists arguing just wearies me )I'll just say here that I particularly appreciated the comments of Rayado on a longish comment about 376. Rayado said (in part) this:
"Last point (I think...I hope): ultimately, whether a luminary or an average Joe, the ultimate goal of life in the Body of Christ is to be transformed into the image of Christ." That's it!! For me, the Christian life is not ultimately about being a "better person." It's about transformed into the image of Christ. If- through a slow process I am transformed into the image of Christ as much as possible in this life I will be a better person because I am more like Christ and I will; be a content person because I am more like him. So that's why these whole discussions of "Can you be a ethical/moral person without religious faith (and the nasty contentiousness that often accompanies it from both sides) just tire me out. Of course, you can be a better person (Whatever that means) without religious faith. You can be be better person with all kinds of things-counselling, therapy, exercise. I don't want to be a better person. I want to be like Christ and it's only God who can get me there. I hope that Rayado who writes so much better than I do and presents a winsome view of Christianity (And BTW, I agree with his/her critique of Robertson's comments) will post more often! TFG and his evil minions want the Bowe Bergdahl mess to go away quickly, so that their claim the deal was "absolutely" worth doing can still stick with the propagandist press.
Sadly for them, Bergdahl's little dance with the Taliban resulted in real death and destruction for his fellow soldiers. The NYT hopes against hope this scoundrel can get off lightly but veterans everywhere won't let that happen. I really hope Obama is stuck and Bergdahl is going to need to face the music, squarely. Lufthansa press conference on now. Among other things they confirm that the pilot outside the cabin has an emergency entry code for the case of incapacitation of the pilot in the cabin. It works unless it's actively blocked from inside the cabin. So there is zero doubt that the co-pilot deliberately flew the craft into the mountain. No need to denounce. I have often felt that one way to fight evil is to stare it in the face, while mocking it directly. Terrorism wishes to strike fear in the population, bypassing the leaders and causing the people to demand change out of fear for their personal safety. Point and mock is not the desired response. Unless there's more from whoever was at the controls when the plane went down- like a "Take that f*cking management goons!" or "Al la snackbar!" or whatever. Typically, if you "want to make a point," you do things to make the point very clear. Among other things they confirm that the pilot outside the cabin has an emergency entry code for the case of incapacitation of the pilot in the cabin. It works unless it's actively blocked from inside the cabin. So there is zero doubt that the co-pilot deliberately flew the craft into the mountain. Sorry, I cannot agree on the non-allegorical status of Godzilla. The story has no antecedents in Japanese literature, and is as close to pure allegory in modern literature as you can get. He symbolized the United States, of course. How you feel about this probably depends a great deal on whether you are Japanese, and perhaps of a certain age of Japanese, or not. How you feel about this probably depends a great deal on whether you are Japanese, and perhaps of a certain age of Japanese, or not. But lookit here, any foreign film that has to have Raymond Burr patched in to the American version is pretty clearly allegorical and not in a nice way Eye-ther. Cocteau and Tati never needed Raymond Burr.

Similar incident to airline disaster almost happened in this country. It was a FedEx jet. One of the flight crew used a claw hammer to attempt the takeover. His goal was to crash the plane into the Memphis sort facality. The crew fought back and subdued him, but several were severely injured. Would-be hijacker got life in prison. Too bad they didn't air mail him to his final destination.

Lufthansa press conference summary Lufthansa confirmed that co-pilot Andreas Lubitz appeared to have prevented the captain from re-entering the cabin after a toilet break, and placed the Airbus A320 that resulted in the crash that killed all 150 on board. Spohr said that it appears the captain punched in the emergency number into the cockpit door to gain entry, but the co-pilot deployed the five-minute over-ride. He said that, irrespective of all the sophisticated safety devices, you can never exclude such an individual event, adding no system in the world could manage to do that. I love the admission in there that the house was raided and all the stuff taken and no one even knows or, apparently, has the slightest clue, if any laws were broken. The problem with the anti-tomb robber bill is that it is an ex post facto law. It is extraordinary likely that at the time he bought or found the item, the buying or taking out of country was legal. But given the levels of record keeping in the various regions of the world, there's no way to show that. Thus the assumption is well you have to give it back any way. The plane accelerated hard and we were thrown back against the seats. I was holding my husband's hand so hard, and literally let out a little cry (and I wasn't alone). We circled the airport for quite a while, with no word from the cockpit, and finally landed. Even the male flight attendant looked freaked out. I refuse to fly now if there's even a threat of bad weather. Posted by: Jane D'oh at March 26, 2015 10:41 AM (FsuaD) 361

I love the admission in there that the house was raided and all the
stuff taken and no one even knows or, apparently, has the slightest clue, if any laws were broken. If you go back to the original coverage, you learn that he used to give tours of his collection to clubs and groups, and some asshole was "uncomfortable" that he owned these things and started calling in government. Voluntarily. The Stasi didn't even have to threaten his family. Posted by: HR braucht ein Bier at March 26, 2015 10:42 AM (/kI1Q) 372

"The DeYoung Museum in GG Park is cool, and it's right across from the Academy of Sciences, which is expensive but fun."
The wonderful old neoclassical Academy of Sciences was remodeled into an "environmental showplace" with a "green roof". Gee whiz, Wally. Aren't green roofs pretty damn heavy? And isn't SF a severe earthquake risk zone? Won't they have had to do a ton of structural engineering to make this even possible? Well, yes to all three of those questions. So the remodeling job ran late and overbudget, and the Academy found itself short on money for actual museum exhibits. It's sparse now compared to the original version. Of the exhibits they do have, there is a definite unifying theme. To wit, they have turned the hysteria up to eleven on the EVIL HUMAN CAUSED GLOBAL WARMENATION IS TURNING THE ERF INTO A LETHAL BLAST FURNACE stuff, so if you like paying a lot of money to have dubious science shouted in your ear, they have that gig down pat. The California Palace of the Legion of Honor is an art museum. Some heavy Rodin there, where Jimmy Stewart fell for Sad Carlotta, also a 4500-pipe Skinner with a 64-foot! thunder stop. Just around the corner, the bridge of USS San Francisco is mounted at Land's End, her compass welded to the course for Guadalcanal.

Which worries me greatly. There's something not being said here. People just don't decide out of nowhere to pilot a full airliner into the side of a frakking mountain. Someone somewhere knows something but isn't saying.
There's speculation, I see, that the co-pilot seemed perfectly content and didn't raise any red flags. I remember reading somewhere that a great many people who have decided on suicide don't show depressive symptoms, but rather a certain calm euphoria because they have finally made a decision and know that very soon the pain they live with will be gone. Just my 2c, but I'd say simply because the pilot didn't seem unhappy doesn't mean he wasn't unhappy. Posted by: Mary Poppins' Practically Perfect Piercing at March 26, 2015 10:49 AM (zF6Iw) 382
From other reports, the co-pilot's religion is "unknown" and there's a 6 month gap is his life of "dunno where he is".

Posted by: torquewrench at March 26, 2015 10:45 AM (noWW6) Agreed. It was a bit heartwarming, though, when I walked in (after, geez, 30 years) and got to reminisce about the old building with one of the customer-guide-helper-whatever persons. The alligator pit is still there, and they kept a few of the dioramas. The pendulum was moved, but it's still there. 331 Look, I'm only going to say this the once, and then let it lay. Airbus is as EU as you can get, the very model of Common Market economic co-operation, and it is based in France. There is all kinds of political motivation on the part of all actors so far to blame this on an individual, and deflect blame from their product.
Posted by: Stringer Davis at March 26, 2015 10:33 AM (xq1UY) Remember that French flight where none of the crew seemed to realize that the plane had stalled and was plummeting? In the present case, the plane did not nose dive straight into the ground. The descent was fairly rapid but not unduly so. The passengers didn't appear to be alarmed until they saw the mountains rushing up toward them. Posted by: rickl at March 26, 2015 11:02 AM (zoehZ) 389

@391 As the story is told, the secret files were obtained not from the US Embassy but from Yemeni government offices. So, who decided to share those files in hard copy? Computerized life is so confusing to people who've never lived outside it.
