Unforeseen problems with legalized marijuana market? Whooda thunkit?
http://bit.ly/pot-probs Poncie Rutsch (seriously?) on NPR.org, c/o Drudge Variable potency in buds means edible pot products' effects are unpredictable... and "...As THC levels climb, the levels of cannabidiol, or CBD, have been declining. That's problematic for medicinal marijuana users since it is more often associated with medical benefits than THC." and They've only begun testing for contaminants - "traces of butane... Bacteria and fungi...." [possibilities of] "E. coli or Salmonella...." Meh. I remember spiderwebs in the pipe, gad that was awful. I also found a big piece of wood in a "health food" packaged pot (not that kind of pot) pie one time. Contamination happens; you try to minimize it. It's treated like a smoke, like tobacco, on which health regs are low, but it's also sold as food & bev, yet it's not really being regulated and tested as such. (I guess chewin' tabaccy is sorta in that same category.) One of the main arguments for legalization of drugs is so consumers can know what they're getting, at least as much as with any other product. Hard to believe, but not all black marketeers are quality-conscious. So, this is being sorted out; all to the good. There's probably already a "pot consumer's reports" website. Who cares? Jus' pass me dat ol' spliff of Jamaican Red, Ziggy! (I saw some Red once, last millenium. It was red.) Posted by: mindful webworker - fungi is not fun, guy! at March 25, 2015 09:27 AM (AKYZm) 71

I see that Kevin D. Williamson (I want to have his writings' babies) has written an eminently sensible article telling the hysterics on the left and hand wringers on the right to calm the hell down about Ted Cruz and that proclaiming with certitude that he can't win almost two years from the election is idiotic.
What a breath of sweet fresh air after Cooke's uncalled for hit piece yesterday. I don't have a favorite at this time (if there's anyone I like best, maybe it's Jindal), but to attack Cruz in such a ridiculous ad hominem way right after the man declared was classless. And he didn't realize the irony of calling Cruz condescending, Cooke who I'm sure comes across as very condescending in his slow way of speaking and boring, tedious, pompous and sanctimonious way he often writes. This is the same person who gratuitously inserts one or two big words in each of his articles to try to impress the masses with his intellectual prowess. It's one thing to offer constructive criticism. It's another to personally attack someone whose side is purportedly on in a way he doesn't attack liberals. (I'm talking about the ad hominem nature of the attacks.) So, thank you, Mr. Williamson, for trying to restore perspective. You are a national treasure. HR, yes the different cannibinoids can be extracted and synthesized into tinctures, oils, waxes, edibles, etc. I've got a chart of CBD's found in the marijuana plant, and I think there are about 70 different ones. The trick is doing the Science to extract/refine the CBD you want for a particular symptom. The chromotography, etc. are very expensive processes, and require expensive lab gear, but definitely doable, and people are figuring out new ways to work with MJ every day.

Serious question as I rarely discuss politics with anyone in real life and don't watch tv:
Is anyone in the grassroots (but just tea party types, even moderates, for example) actually enthused about Jeb? Regardless of all his money, he has to get actual votes, right? I guess all that money can buy a lot of attack ads. And if, somehow, he wins the primary and runs against Shrill (not that her winning the Dem primary is guaranteed), how does he explain giving her that Most Awesome Person of the Year award? And do soon after Benghazi. And do we think he'll actually go after her in any meaningful way? And he's definitely not courting the base so if he continues on his current trajectory, I don't see how the base turns out for him in large numbers. Plus, Booooosh. These are the questions I have about Jeb Bush. One patient base for med mj is the Multiple Sclerosis community. I'm working with one guy who has MS, runs MS fund-raising events, etc. and he's pretty disgusted that his colleagues in CO can get their meds ( in 5mg or 10mg THC dose per serving) over the counter for cheap money, while his only option is to buy a baggie from a guy at the bar. Street weed has no quality control, no way to know how much of which cannibinoid is present, it's essentially useless as a medication unless you get lucky. For loss of appetite, pretty much any weed will do, but for a lot of other symptoms, it takes a lot of work to get the benefits out of the plant.

You kid, but a pot seller here in Denver makes pot edibles that he wraps in repurposed/recycled actual candy wrappers and then sells them. Oh, and last October he went on a tv news shows lecturing parents to be sure to check their kid's candy to make sure there's not pot edibles mixed in there. Fair point. Has he done anything to loosen the gun laws in NJ? Has he even mentioned it on a wish-list (as in: hey, we've got bigger fish to fry right now, but, yeah, I'd like this)? Posted by: AllenG (DedicatedTenther) - TrueCon at March 25, 2015 10:41 AM (kff5f) The only reason why the Jordanian monarchy continues to rule is because of U.S. influence and support, imo. I really can't see how it is an optimistic situation wherein Russia and the U.S. become competitors for influence in that country. If Russia wishes to destabilize Jordan, it will be much easier for them to do it from the inside. From the Soviet era, hegemony over the lines of communication into and out of the ME has been the jewel in the crown of Russian foreign policy strategy. We managed to frustrate that strategy years ago, but we are essentially giving it back to the Russians on a silver platter. I don't pretend to be an expert on the ME, but I did do contract work in that area for years after the military. I'm frankly astonished that the monarchy is still in place in Jordan and I believe that its existence is as fragile as it ever was. I also believe that a fart in a sand storm will be all that is needed eventually to bring it down. Posted by: LoneStarHeeb at March 25, 2015 10:58 AM (BZAd3) 348
