Early Morning Thread 3/21/15: Status Quo edition. [krakatoa]

Good morn, gentle morons.

Contrary to some rumors, now that Ace has officially repudiated the GOP, content at the HQ will not fall below normal expectations.

The sooner it dies and is replaced by a principled party that seeks to moor us to the constitution and promote limited government the better.

7 Wow, SAT thread at 6 am.

Good Morning Morons. Today is Saturday, March 21, 2015. On this day in 1952 Alan Freed staged the first stadium rock. The Moondog Coronation Ball was held at the Cleveland Arena. Unfortunately only 1 song was allowed to be performed before fire officials shut the show down. They had sold twice as many tickets as the capacity of the arena.

8 PA is now allowing prison guards to carry pepper spray after prisoners stabbed a guard 129 times and killed him. Some namby pambies don't like it. I say the type of high security prisoners we are talking about here should be locked in their cages and not let out except for prison business only. Then they are strip searched and in chains with multiple guards. Pepper spray? Just one more weapon the thugs can grab. Anyway, I would bet that most of the thugs who are in these units should have been executed anyway.

15 The Obamas are not the secret buyers of the beach-front Hawaiian home Tom Selleck once roamed as the star of the 1980s television show "Magnum, P.I.," according to White House spokesman Josh Earnest and an Obama associate who says he and he alone is the proud new owner.

Parse that statement. We know the Obama's did not buy because we know who did buy it, an Obama crony. What we don't know for sure is what he bought it for. We want a categorical denial from Obama or the crony that it was not bought to be transferred to Obama in some manner. And besides, applying the rules for WH statements, this means it is being bought for yet another crony bribe for some action.

17 Sometimes things are just shitty all over. Blue Cross, the heartless b*stards, have denied coverage for buying a wheelchair for a two year old toddler saying he would be eligible when he is 5. The mother is going to social media condemning them. I think in this case BCBS is right, he is too young for a wheel chair. The mother should stick it out for 3 years and be careful what she does. I expect this child is going to have some healthy medical expenses down the road and pissing off BCBS now is probably not a good idea.

Bureaucrats from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) will weigh and measure children in daycare as part of a study mandated by First Lady Michelle Obama's Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act.

Who elected this scrunt? In any case, this is one we can't blame on the Republicans except in a very roundabout way. This horrific bill was passed when the Fascists held all three parts of the government and had a 60 vote lock on the Senate. The "roundabout" way is that the Republicans who make up the RNCe pissed off their base, fielded shitty candidates, and generally made this shit not only possible, but likely. And guess what, they are still doing that.

And BTW, if I had any children in day care I would tell the fascists to piss up a rope. My children's weight and diet habits are my business, not theirs.

34 MD is going to try to get rid of the "rain tax" but Dems are going to try to block that (and probably will). They blow hard about pollution in the bay, but we all know what it is. They never met a tax they didn't like. My old rule of thumb still holds true. When a politician decries some big problem that must be attacked, you first look at their proposed solution and you will see what the real problem is. Here, once again, the problem was that the citizens of MD were not taxed enough even they are in the top 25 States by taxes.

Gallup Survey Confirms San Francisco Is The Nation's Gayest City

San Francisco has the highest concentration of LGBT people of any city in the US, at 6.2 percent. However, there are some surprises on the list, including Salt Lake City, which is ranked No. 7

The distribution of LGBT identity across the largest metro areas in the U.S. is relatively narrow, with a range of 3.6 percentage points from the highest to the lowest MSA among the top 50.

Willowed, but for the ages. Guess the religion time:

Pupils at a primary school were banned from watching todays once-in-a-generation eclipse because of ;religious and cultural reasons', it has emerged.

Parents of children at North Primary School in Southall, London, said they were 'outraged' by the decision and claimed it showed a triumph of 'religious superstition' over scientific education.

The headteacher said: 'The school made this decision when we became aware of religious and cultural concerns associated with observing an eclipse directly.

'Although we are sorry for any disappointment, pupils were still able to watch the eclipse on screens in classrooms.'

Good. I'm not the only one.

I posted this link in one of the evening threads and going to repost it in the ONT, but I conked out before I could do that.

Karl Denninger of The Market Ticker is working on a series of posts about prepping:

http://market-ticker.org/akcs-www?post=229939

This is the third in an ongoing series. Links to the first two are in the first sentence.

His point is that most people who consider themselves "preppers" are thinking in terms of SHTF and TEOTWAWKI type scenarios, which are statistically improbable.

He is attacking the topic in a methodical manner, starting with much likelier scenarios such as, "What if you wake up in the middle of the night and your house is on fire?" and "What if your car breaks down in the middle of nowhere?"

He is starting small and building out from there. I like that approach. The current article deals with natural disasters such as hurricanes and earthquakes.

154 Lived in Santa Fe for a couple of years in the latter 1970s. Lived outside of Taos for a while ("extended vacation") when daughter was little; twin sons were conceived there. Milady and I really were into-it New Mexicans, for a little while, long ago.

We still import Chile Verde which Milady cooks up; that spicy dish is a regular part of our diet, the only real vestige of our Santa Fe days. Besides the boys.

New Mexico really is the "land of enchantment." It can enchant you right out of your good intentions, horse sense, and life savings if you're not careful. Only place I ever dealt with a gen-u-wine con artist; he ended up in prison right after failing to fleece us, but after ripping off a bunch of other people. And he was not all that uncommon a character, although most "pilgrim robbers" are more subtle and legal about it, like the guy who tried to sue me for a half million dollars.

Beautiful country, though. Never got out in that enough.

If New Mexico were socially and politically more like Oklahoma than Berkeley, it could be a good place to live. Maybe if you live in the eastern part of the state, snugged up to Texas and Oklahoma? Most of that is pretty empty desert, though. Pretty. But empty desert.

I don't know if you are still here, Carol....I am in Katy, TX just west of Houston. Lots of people around here think it is the promised land, but not me. Too many people!

I dont know about age 2 but ae 5 seems a bit late. Kids need to get around by themselves. Put your kid in one of those walkers and they are off chasing the dogs and bouncing off everything. Freedom is necessary to happiness and health in my opinion. Since kids in w/c legs are impaired, they need to have something that they can use their arms to get around.

I live near a school for the blind and I see them training tiny little kids on how to use a white cane, The kids are fearless. They look so happy being able to get out and about on their own.

Maybe, mom shd pay for a chair on her own, seek charity donations, buy a used one or rent it if available.

165 Wheelchair vs. stroller-- I assume from the mother's comments that she wants a motorized wheelchair, which the child could learn to operate himself. That's why she talks about how she wants him to become independent --or at least as independent as he is capable of being. He's at a crucial stage in terms of developing character traits, so I think she is right to try and get the wheelchair. One of the problems in raising disabled kids is that they don't always fit neatly into the eligibility boxes drawn by government and insurers. Most kids with spin bifida are aborted, so God bless this woman for giving her son life.

168 TXette,
I was told, no offense, that Houston was the armpit & stay away from it.

169 Don't know 'nuttin about New Mexico, but Texas is a wonderful state and unlike any others I have been in.

We are Texans, first

Like 'ette I am in Katy as well, as far away from central Houston as I could get and still get to work in a (sorta kinda) reasonable timeframe.

We have forests, deserts (if that is what he wants, crazy idea, but NM is mostly desert, yes?) rolling green hills, plains, sub-tropical.. whatever you want, it is in Texas.. including a congress that can only meet every two years (I could kiss the guy that put that into our Constitution!) so they can't get up to as much monkey business.

We have some of the finest fine arts in N. America (Houston Symphony, Houston Grand Opera, Houston Ballet), we also have longhorn steers!

172 Mordineus-
I'm using iPad & my hands are too cold to copy. It's stupid but I'm cold & I'm drinking cold water. I don't like hot coffee or drinks, I like my food hot, as in temperature, & drinks cold.
