And by the way, Jeb Bush's first hire as an adviser is James A. Baker on foreign policy.

With Joo-haters like that, you don't need Democrats. By the way, Baker will be speaking at J-Street this weekend.

And a hearty "vayr ge hargit" to you, Jeb and James.

This "Leon Wolf" person -- whom I have never heard of until a few minutes ago -- seems to be another Konservative Kommenting Kommando who gives us the view from his parents' basement.

Perhaps after he reaches puberty and ditches the dumb hat he might have something to say. Right now, not so much.

Walker and Rubio are the only ones with chances at taking down Teh Jebster? Gimme a friggin' break.

When I want some mal-informed doofus to advise me, I'll go right over to Poppin' Fresh and get my mindless drivel direct from the source.

Saw part of the speech last night. What I want to know, when our president any president make an address to a foreign country especially to a country that has sworn to destroy us, why wasn't it cover wall to wall on all the news networks. I for one would like to know just what the leader of our country *cough, cough* is saying to our enemy in particular.

20 Ah, yes, Reed College, the site of the first pot arrest in a college in Oregon. The place that wants to be Berkley North but with more class because unlike Berkley the students come from the correct class of society.
Like Gonzaga without credible sports.

Talk about burning it down, bulldozing the site and scattering the ashes and upgrade the transportation routes to it so it can be turned into a low-rent industrial park to actually get some value out of the site.

No, that is just the pretext for excluding any dissent.

Not only must all policy positions be supported;
All dissent must be crushed lest anyone hear alternatives to the party line and have bad-thoughts;
And everyone is forced to chant the lies while hating themselves for participating.

you get some that become informers and enforcers
you get capable ones that shut up out of fear and hate themselves
and you destroy anyone who won't knuckle under

41 As Rating Plunge, MSNBC Faces Shakeup

Even from a completely non-ideological standpoint, MSNBC has become simply unwatchable. The suckitude is so strong it reeks.

I can see why Morning Joe gets OK ratings (by MSMBC) standards, but Maddow is just as awful as the others and she gets decent ratings. I don't get that.

But the slide's cause is simple: the on-air talent is awful, from top to bottom (WTF is with Alex Wagner? She giggles through every show like a schoolgirl.)

Did you read him (and the rest of them) during Ferguson when they were sure the Gentle Giant was done in by a conspiracy of racist cops? And did they walk it back it when the truth came out? Oh no. Wolf decides to prop up his bullshit with a report written on a completely false premise.

What's the matter with vetting our candidates? Wolf and RedState would rather destroy Walker because he fired a paid huckster who can't control her f*cking mouth just because she's on of their own. That site is inbred, conspiratorial, filled with hypocrisy, false religious righteousness and is an embarrassment to everything the conservative movement is supposed to represent. The juvenile name-calling by the moderators is a nice touch too.

And as of today, they even removed the ability to upvote a remark without registering onto the RedState site despite being already registered into Disqus. So I'd like to totalitarian to my description.

I don't know - I thought it was a good read. Admittedly, I have n't read the articles he is critical of, but in general I agree with his points. Obviously, the candidates should be vetted, but there is a lot of fracturing on the right over who is the perfect candidate. To each their own perogative. But I like Walker, Rubio, Perry, Jindal - all would be acceptable choices to me (based on what I know now) - and yes all have faults. I can forgive Rubio for his failed immigration push - though others do not seem so inclined. I don't care as much about certain defense hires made by Perry - though it seems to bother others greatly. I'm not looking for the perfect candidate - just the best one to push the movement forward.

Regardless, I think the talent in 2016 will far exceed what was available to us conservatives in 2012 and 2008.

The one area I quibble with him is on W Bush - who the base pretty much had in their sights from the get go.

Stop the circular firing squads. Stop throwing out the baby with the bathwater. Stop demanding 100% (or even 90%) "Purity" with *your* personal opinions.

I've worked with people professionally who I disagreed with politically. They performed their job professionally and kept their jobs. She acted in a less then professional manner and embarrassed her employer.

136 Heh, I've been chucked from a class before.

My crime: I said that alcoholism was something people would have to "recover from" if they wanted to leave a positive mark on society.

The jist of the conversation (why I don't remember) was whether functioning alcoholism existed or was merely a illusion.

Several students (crazy progtards BIRM) freaked out and started yelling at me that "you never recover from alcoholism, you're always in recovery."
I patiently told them that while my vocabulary may not have been the most technically correct, that they should pay attention to the broader point I was making.

They refused.
I left the class.

Now this was a special section of a class for a service learning group I was in (and later left telling them that it was becoming less about volunteer work and more about leftist politics.) So I complained to the coordinator.

Best I got was an email apology from the instructor (who had clearly lost control of the class at this point.) I did write my final paper and titled it "A conservative manifesto" to poke her in the eye. It was a bashing of the welfare state.

No, he made a distinction which is quite valid. There is a difference between believing "he needs to be vetted," and simply *saying that* as a proxy for "we hate his guts."

I agree with you that Mair needed to be fired (really- she never needed to be hired in the first place), but I can certainly see how one- especially a professional (or semi-professional) blogger would see MM & BB as having pulled out the long knives for Walker.

I go to BB just about every day for news links and I have seen no evidence that they are attacking Walker. Their hitting him for originally hiring that scrunt is not why he fired her. And I made the exact same criticism, he should never have hired her in the first place. He did not vet her. I was 18 at the time, the professor could have cut me some slack for not getting my verbiage 100% correct.

Instead she let 3 students attack me for semantics. At one point I actually said that in frustration "you're yelling at me over semantics, use whatever words you feel necessary, can we discuss my original point."

I was later told that one of those girls may have had an alcoholic father. I fell bad for her on that front, but clearly she was redirecting her anger at me on that one.

178 Here is where I am with respect to the conservative candidates. I like Walker, Rubio, Perry, Jindal, and Paul. None are perfect. Like LW, Cruz is probably the most idological similar to me. But like LW - I don't think he really is a viable candidate. That could change of course - and if he really looked like he could win - I'd happily vote for him. But with respect to the others, there are lots of things that appeal to me and of course some things that concern me. But all are better alternatives to Bush or Christie.

If I had a voice that reached a wide audience, I would have a hard time being overly critical of any of those candidates (and there may be more - that I am just not as familar with) at this time. Though I guess that doesn't really drive traffic. I would try to raise all of them up as viable and acceptable alternatives to Bush.

185 I go to BB just about every day for news links and I have seen no evidence that they are attacking Walker.

And I don't so I'll take your word for that.

That doesn't change the fact that people got their noses out of joint over the whole fiasco (on both sides), and some venting about it is to be expected.

His larger point (the bulk of the middle of the article) is absolute correct, however.

And while I liked the Christie v Teachers Unions stuff, I believe I was also one of the ones saying "whoa, there," to all the "Christie for President" talk.

Well, if it helps, they were also wrong.

Sure, you will always be "a recovering alcoholic," because once you fall off the wagon, it's hard to get back on.

However, as someone whose father was (I guess technically "is") an alcoholic, "recovered" is a perfectly acceptable word choice for "you have to get your life back together, and get off the sauce."

I suspect (if it's like many classes I had at 18 & 19 in college) that the problem was that you are *male* and were expressing an opinion different from theirs.

One day I may expound on the fun I had being the only male in a college lit classroom discussing "The Yellow Wallpaper" with a bunch of barely-informed "feminists." That was an experience.

Their trashing of Walker over the past few days (and not just on the site) helped flame a non-story - actually something that needed to be done - into a national story, portraying a candidate as weak.

And now they're complaining about other blogger wanting vet Walker on REAL, vital issues like immigration, Common Core.

This happens again and again with RedState - they're often emotion or personality-driven or driven by factions I can't understand and often cause real harm to candidates, issues.

246 That Starbucks article is pretty damn funny. When I couldn't sleep last night, I amused myself imagining someone going into a Starbucks and telling the waiter (ok, "barista") in a loud voice that "Jews are better than Asians" or "Muslims are better than Christians" or "Koreans are superior to Japanese." Or maybe all three pronouncements in one order.

I don't think The Medina Point Starbucks limo liberal really thought this through.

I agree which is why I chose the word in the first place over other less useful words (like "cured" or "over.")

Nevertheless, I didn't want an argument about semantics because I felt the bigger question was more useful than "what do we call this condition we all agree exists."

But Postmoderns can do nothing but argue language, so that's all they do.

251 Wandered off to read some articles Ben linked. I don't think I finished any of them. Partway through the Starbux article, I'm thinking, I don't go to Starbux, I don't care about Starbux, I'm so uninterested, I'm not even amused watching them shoot themselves in the foot. Why am I reading this article? Closed tab.

Funny thing. When I go off to read the soft articles, analyses, opinions, at other sites, it really makes me appreciate this site, posters, and also quite importantly the commentariat. I really appreciate the debates, the informed opinions and clear argumentation that so many folks have here (when not drunk or fapping).

I believe the format, trying to stay conversational and concise in comments, also helps folks to focus on the point. If I'm five paragraphs into an article and I still don't know where the author's going, I start thinking about what comments on Ace I'm missing.

Day-of-game cancellations are strictly verboten absent an emergency. So, if the guy doesn't change his tune, he's fired and I'll get his spot(s) on the Spring schedule. Last night I wrote how communications technology has changed things. Twenty years ago nobody would have known that Mair had been hired let alone that she had been fired and the reasons for it. No one would have used that as part of their process in weighing support for Walker. Yet now, because communication is so fast and anyone can use modern communications and broadcast to a large audience, we now know of this story.

I think we are still coming to grips with this. It is shown by how many people use social media to destroy themselves, broadcasting a thought that otherwise wouldn't have gone any further than the radius of their voices. It is also, I think, shown by how every scrap of information, no matter what it is, is given equal weight. I think it is a reflex from when information was rare to come by and the scarcity gave any piece value. we're still giving the same value to these scraps when the amount of information has ballooned.

It remains to be seen when the weighing of information to the information's actual worth will catch up.

Army has real medics. Guys with big red crosses on their helmets, which theoretically encourages the enemy to NOT fire on them, because they ARE unarmed.

In ground combat, you want some semblance of humanity to remain, and the medics are as honored and respected as anyone by ground combat soldiers. It takes a great deal of courage to be on a battlefield, unarmed, walking right into harm's way.

I don't know what they do up in those planes though. Maybe the Air Force needs paramedics in case a pilot gets hurt, or somebody on the ground gets a paper cut or something.

318 In addition to the very tough pararescuemen, USAF also train JTACs, who attach to ground units including elite special ops units, and accompany those units to call in tactical air.

Getting the tacair ordnance to go where it's wanted without killing friendlies is an art. Not made easier by the exertions of moving along with the other grunts, while carrying a lot of comms gear, and while being generously shot at by the enemy.

So, Baruch on the 20, and Coolidge fans should applaud, right?

The absolute big thing I can't understand about Coolidge. Goes to show, I think, what an open and unplowed field technical government economics was, then.
I think it comes up here, time to time, how Keynes was practically a conservative in comparison to his colleagues. He wanted government make-work. Others wanted more and better bread-and-soup lines. And he wanted the deficits made up when times got better. Who'd have thought, with that system, they'd never get better?

I mean like you know when they embarass you? In front of your friends? You whack em with a backhand. Not out in the middle of a room like some sort of animal, but nice, like in the bedroom. BA-BOOM What am I, some kind of asshole? BA-BOOM another one. What am I, some kind of joke? You get your coat on fast and you don't say goodnight to nobody. That's to keep em humble, when you don't let them say goodnight to nobody. They walk out looking at the fucking floor."

381 CNN first reported the hire on Monday:

"Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker's political action committee has hired prominent Republican strategist Liz Mair to lead online communication efforts, CNN Politics has learned, taking yet another step toward building a team for what is expected to become a presidential campaign later this year.

Mair's political consulting firm will advise on social media and blogger outreach for Walker's PAC, Our American Revival, by providing input on digital strategy and messaging, Mair told CNN on Monday. She'll be joined by associates Brittany Cover and Dan Blum."

The Des Moines Register researches Liz's personal social media output and found her politically ignorant tweets. Maybe Mair needs some advice on her own social media behavior?

Breitbart's Matthew Boyle investigates and reports, contacts Mair, she shats in his mouth with indignant condescension, and EE at RedState gets pants-in-a-wad that Boyle/Breitbart are big, fat meanies to EE's wicked smart great pal, who should not be held responsible for being hoisted by her own petard.

Breitbart publishes an article by MM about vetting all candidates, blah, blah, blah.

Leon Wolf turns into a buffoon and writes a truly retarded article that is certainly not a great read, one that's rather more embarrassing to Mr. Wolf and EE by extension.
