8 Morning all.

Don't know where I'm supposed to be, precisely. Either I have a training session or not. Nobody's answering the phone....

WRT Ace's post yesterday - Had a nice night reading it all, but I guess I'm surprised people were so taken aback by what Ace wrote, especially the part about advocating stuff he didn't believe was true. Anybody who has followed the blog and has any sort of sequential memory should have already known this.

Everybody, get ready. We have a lot of aerobic exercises to do today. Mostly consisting of screaming, yelling, carrying on, jumping to conclusions, and flying off the handle.

So stretch well, I don't want anyone pulling something.

Subjects: McConnell's chinless visage, Boehner's weird complexion, and Obama's temper tantrums.

And other stuff as soon as the cobs crawl out of the dumpsters they hid in to avoid that police dragnet last night.

I saw the post and vaguely remembered some comment from around the 2012 elections to that effect, but if ace is staying stuf he doesn't believe is true than maybe yesterday's dust up was all self loathing. Not everyone has been towing the party line. But whatever.

59 Cato: "There's nothing we can do to save the Republican party from the people that control it."

See, now, that's what I was talking about. I appreciate the sentiment, really, but I still feel compelled to say, "Thank you for your concern."

Nothing? Nothing at all to save the party that fielded Goldwater and Reagan? Nothing to save the party that has been growing in Constitutional Conservatives?

That's what they'd like you to believe. It's working.

Reagan said something like liberty is always only one generation away from extinction. Building up is not as easy as tearing down, yet we could already be on a trajectory to restore principle to the Republican Party and the nation. This makes the RINOs all the more evident, and infuriating, but we should be confident that they and their supporters are on the way out nonetheless. Control of the party can be changed.

Person last thread who asked, where he lives, Dems rule, so how would a 3rd party fare any better? is close to the right idea. If a viable 3rd party of principle is possible, I'm there. It's not. Meanwhile, I'll vote R, thanks. YMMV.

In addition to ObamaCare, I also want to point out how, uh, interesting it is that all of as sudden the House GOP is pushing "all out" for... a Balanced Budget Amendment! You just gotta believe there's a smoke filled-room somewhere on K-Street where the words "We're in trouble with the Bubbas, drag-out the ultimate Boob-Bait, the BBA!!"

84 Another AoSHQ Turncoat

Ah the story of Caesar and the Roman Senate. The founders were well aware of this because at the time they were the most well educated people in America and likely among the best in the world.

That is why they had a three part governance with a WRITTEN Constitution that gave clear guidance to limit the power of Caesar and the federal government general.

But alas, in a subversive scheme Adams (the day's big government liberal) he appointed a crooked chief justice named Marshal to rule over 1/3 of the government and make that third the interpreter of that written Constitution. And then began chipping away at it.

BY the end of the 1930s it was no longer a meaningful document. By the end of the 40s it was lying dead in a moldy grave.

91 "Taxation via law enforcement is a thing. A bad thing."

Without a doubt, intentional targeting of a demographic for enhanced enforcement is wrong.

But here in Baltimore, if traffic enforcement were based purely on illegal traffic behavior, with the demographic of the vehicle operator hidden from the Officer until after the citation is written, it would be disproportionally Black.
Or New Jersey drivers.

Coming home last night on Northern Parkway, three lanes each way, here is an African American female walking against traffic in the right traffic lane, forcing people to get out of the lane to go around her. With a smile on her face the whole time. I guess she was trolling for her own Officer Wilson moment.

128 The reason that the left is reacting so
venomously to the Israeli election is that their premises have been
utterly rejected and their leverage is rapidly disappearing. I think it's a
glacial shift like 1980 in the US or 1979 in the UK. Israel
is increasingly inoculated from Europe's and Obama's economic and
diplomatic threats and that lack of control drives them crazy. Europe's importance in
world trade is plunging due to demographics and the uncompetitive EU: 25% of the world
GDP 25 years ago. 15% now. 10%

in 10 years. Israel's trade with East and South Asia is booming and the
previous government frantically signed trade deals with Asia. China,
Japan,
Singapore,
South Korea, and India don't give a crap about the poor sad widdle Arabs
not getting a 22nd state to ruin. Neither does anyone else
actually.

135 What has the Republican Party done for me lately? At the US level, not a lot. I was glad they invited Bibi to talk, at least. My reps mostly vote right, FWIW.

At the state levels, some states, quite a lot is happening, internally, and in opposition to Federal tyranny.

So we got a Republican majority, barely, in the Senate and kept the House. Both majorities have to be increased, but the main thing now is to continue to increase the Constitutional Conservatives until they are a majority among the Republicans. Then it works.

Progress sure is infuriatingly slow, isn't it? Helps to all row in the same general direction.

Do you (or anyone else) know how voting works in Australia? That's the model Obama mentioned.

I have no idea, and I'm too lazy to google.

But I am curious.

Do they send you to jail if you fail to vote?

Or is it kind of a "we'll send you the ballot in the mail" and no one follows up type thing?

Either way, sounds like a recipe for lots of fraud -- so I'm sure the dems will push for it.

211 So look who's shocked, shocked to see increased immigration has negative effects on American workers:

"Southern California Edison's plans to lay off hundreds of employees
and hire foreign workers instead is coming under attack from lawmakers
in Congress and local unions.

On Tuesday, more than 300 members of the International Brotherhood of
Electrical Workers rallied in Irvine in support of their fellow Edison
employees and protested what they say are unfair labor practices.

Meanwhile, members of Congress are upset about reports that Edison is
laying off workers in favor of bringing in cheaper labor from overseas
under the controversial H-1B visa program. The visas are intended to
bring in skilled and educated foreign workers."

231 Those who are concerned about CD quality or MP3 quality when you download them be aware of this.

If you download a CD (or single song) through Amazon it is normally a bit rate of about 250 360 kps with a sample rate of around 44khz. They sound just as good as most of the high speed master disk vinyls that I have. As for proof of purchase Amazon puts a tracking number in the comments section of the properties.

However, that is a two edged sword. If you give a copy of the thing to a "friend" and he gets hit by an auditor from the lawfare people guess who they will come looking for in addition to the "friend".

Most people who rip their CDs for use on an MP3 player or simply to make copies for use in a car or what ever do not record them to that level of quality simply because it takes longer and it uses a lot more file space. And they still sound good.

Which was sort of my point (that may not have come across well in this truncated format). The current occupant of the White House was touted as the smartest man in the world and he hasn't worked out so well. No single human being is "qualified" to be President based on credentials, or all encompassing knowledge of all matters that a President might be tasked with handling. Are you looking for a career politician? Or a single issue policy wonk? Or a pundit?

I would rather have a man of principle with a measure of humility and the ability to analyze a particular problem with the help of knowledgable people in that particular area, not someone who can pass a gotcha test from some interviewer. Someone who can acknowledge when they don't know something. YMMV.

256 Some of the dumbest people (politically) I know are doctors. Carson has his heart in the right place, but would be so dependent on advisers he would be led to the left, and he would not know it.

BZZZZT your own self.

One man's general knowledge is another man's gotcha question. Who gets to decide which is which? Jwest? You? Me?

The catch is knowing how to and being willing to weigh input from various sources. An analytical mind balanced with a core set of principles. You sound like you approve of the "I'm a better speechwriter than my speechwriters, and I know more about the Middle East than my Middle East advisors" style of governance. No thank you.

======

Wasn't that where Ace accused him of saying something racist.
And he was like, "uh, I'm accurately describing African beliefs."
And the actual African who comments here was like, "Yeah: It is true."
Then Ace was like, "It's still racist--go be racist somewhere else."
So he say, "whatever dood."

262 RE Hewitt's Ben Carson interview
. Hewitt told us Schwartzenegger was conservative.
. Carson is really focusing on the origins of the Arab/Israeli conflict and sees the Islamic aspect as carryover from that. Hewitt should at least give Carson that much credit, especially since as a Catholic Hewitt should have that much Biblical knowledge. Still not a very good answer from Carson to the actual question, though.
. The problem with Obama's foreign policy isn't his amateur status coming in. The problem is his ideology. I would actually argue that no president in recent memory has been more effective at moving his foreign and domestic agendas than Obama.

I'd certainly concede that the MP3s available for purchase today are of higher bitrate and quality than those of the past. I also realize that I'm part of the niche crowd who prefers the highest quality of source material possible. So, CDs for me until such time as they're retired or lossless audio is regularly provided as an option for download.

I am getting old now and my hearing isn't what it used to be but I can not tell the difference between the quality of CDs and downloads. I can tell the difference when you rip your own at a low bit rate and sample rate.
But even to do that I have to play them on high quality headphones or speakers through a decent amp.

266 I still want to know how calculations of the timing of the solar storm that hit this week were off so badly.

Ask Vic how bad weather forecasting was when observational data came from a couple of dozen radio reports across the nation vs. satellites?
Or someone botched a calculation or the news is crap.
Or some unobserved or unknown interaction between 2 hurtling giant masses of plasma.

271 FYI: I'm getting a suspicious pop-up offer to update my Flash on that National Review link. Pop up blocker is on. It goes to a "http://2nowup.newcheck4updates.com/" site per my browser history.

Anybody else getting that? Any bets it's drive by malware?

272 FT can take a big bite. I'm not signing up or registering to read their article on luddites buying CDs. Hell I even still buy DVDs, even thought I can stream more than I'll ever be able to watch. It's the principle of the thing, dammit.

You shouldn't link to that type of site, methinks.

That pretty much sums up my listening environment. I don't use earbuds and I find compression artifacts extremely distracting. Also, by starting with lossless source material, I can compress to a lossy format appropriate for smaller capacity devices at my leisure without worrying about compounding pre-existing artifacts.

278 Has anyone ever bought (legitimately, natch) a *used* mp3? A used CD? There's half of the group--tightwads like myself who love to get stuff from the $5.00 bin at Roses and don't want to charge more on their credit card.
