1 Good Morning Morons. Today is Wednesday, March 18, 2015. On this day in 1314 Jacques de Molay, the last grand master of the Knights Templar, was burned at the stake for the crime of loaning King Phillip IV of France more money than he could pay back.

2 In a great thumb in the Choom's eye, Benjamin Netanyahu won the Israeli election yesterday. But it is not all over yet. He must win support and form a coalition to get the necessary 61 seats.

4 The State Department said Tuesday it has no record of Hillary Clinton signing a key form stating she turned over all official documents upon leaving the department

Remember, we are talking Clinton here. Parse that statement. It doesn't say she did not sign it, it doesn't say she did sign it. It doesn't even say if they found the form. Has the press applied close questioning of who ever said this (probably "big tits")? Of course not. I think signing this form is a red herring. It doesn't matter whether she signed it or not, she maintained classified information on her home computer and is hiding that. She committed another felony.

7 State Senator Eric Schmitt (R-MO) wants people to start a BBQ rebellion against the EPA because they are seeking to regulate your BBQ grill and require expensive modifications. I have a better idea, lets call for a new Party who will seek to eliminate this out of control rogue agency. Or lets hold an Art V convention and eliminate it ourselves. There is NOTHING in the Constitution that allows the government to create the EPA. Let's put some teeth in the Constitution with the ability for people outside of DC to remove rogue judges and Agencies.

8 As much as $500 million in U.S. military aid to Yemen is unaccounted for, U.S. officials said Tuesday, sparking fears that military equipment could be seized by Shiite Houthi rebels or even Al Qaeda.

So we have fears huh? The ISIS assholes have the equipment and you know it. Never give military equipment to shit holes that are likely to turn it over to the enemy.

13 SF is looking to join the list of liberal Hells that are giving voting rights to 16 year olds. This is an obvious ploy to get more liberal voters into the system. My question is how will they make sure that these 16 year olds do not vote in the federal elections? Are they giving out two ballots? I would say probably not. I don't give a damn how cities turn themselves to shit as long as my tax dollars are not paying for the toilet paper, but I don't want kids voting for people who will pass laws that effect me. Maybe some of you Morons in States that do this can edumacate us on how they do it?

15 Third Party activists are agitating for inclusion in the Presidential debates and that the 15% rule be removed. I would say that it would probably be OK to lower the 15% rule but not to eliminate it. I have seen too many debates turned to shit by too many candidates, most of which have zero support outside of a few loons.

But they fail to note that the $2T savings counted from killing Obamacare will never happen, even if Republicans had all three branches. 33 New Republican strategy huh? It is full of fail.

After a failed attempt to block implementation of the president's executive action on immigration by not funding it through the Department of Homeland Security funding, Congressional Republicans are seeking another strategy to combat the president's action.

It wasn't a "failed attempt", it was a damn Boner and RNCe sell-out. Piss on them.

"If Republicans opt for a plan, their best bet is a vow not to confirm the president's appeals-court nominees until he rescinds his immigration fiats. This strategy has virtues that others do not," wrote Levey.

For my redoubt (to survive the Cheese Zombie Apocalypse) I have in mind 160-240 acres. Hill country land prices run $10,000+ if it is reasonably close to SA or Austin. Can still buy land in eastern OK for around 2 grand an acre.

Would hate to abandon the land of my birth, but bad things are on the horizon, and land to raise food and a reasonable kill zone will be awfully handy.

Well, some places. Not others. The lastest thing is above-ground, usually retrofitted in-home shelter rooms. They work.

It's always amazed me humanity builds so poorly. Stick houses in tornado country; flimsy buildings in earthquake areas; beach houses on sticks facing hurricanes. California mansions on a mudslide cliff.

I suppose it's playing the odds / avoid the up-front expenses because it's cheaper to rebuild kind of thinking. It does make sort-of sense with tornaodes. Terrible as they are, your odds of being in one are relatively small. Which is real comforting when your belongings are scattered across a couple of square miles.

I live pretty safe from 'naders, in an old concrete house in a bit of a valley, above the flood lines, too. IAC, I'll take my chances against some little ol' Okie whirlwind vs one of those monster hurricane thingys.

If I were putting up a house there, I'd want it specified to South Florida wind load standards at a minimum, and I'd probably at maximum opt to build it out of concrete.

It's not too hard to pick out the concrete-walled houses in the post-tornado photographs. They're the ones still visibly recognizable as houses.

That's what happens when you let the media define what the center is, without challenge. They've defined eternal deficit spending, de-facto open borders, military cutbacks, and giving aid and comfort to the enemy as "centrist". The vast majority of LIV's have been programmed to believe that center=good, and never question what the so-called center actually is. Meanwhile, the GOPe keeps doubling down on stupid and chasing far left votes, because that's where they've been told the center is, and they never stopped to examine the source.

Beach Houses on sticks actually work as long as the roofs are correctly attached. Building them on poles to allow the storm surge to flow under the house keeps it from destroying it.

More houses are destroyed by the storm surge than the wind.

My gripe with beach houses is that I have to subsidize their flood insurance, either through the federal flood insurance program or the fact that every time there is a storm the feds pay for houses whether they have insurance or not.

Likud lawmaker mocks Obama: Your criticism will boost Netanyahu's popularity

Danny Danon, a senior member of the ruling Likud Party, says that administration's interference in Israeli politics will improve the prime minister's chances of reelection.

...MK Danny Danon told a New York radio program that the administration's criticism -- effectively, Danon said, an effort to influence the Israeli elections set for March -- could backfire and strengthen Israel's current government.

They do not examine the source nor do they challenge the premise.

There are occasional weak rhetorical challenges.

I carry no brief for George W. Bush, but one thing he did do correctly was to raise the rhetorical banner for education reform. By saying that there was nothing compassionate about leaving kids trapped in flailing, failing public schools. That we were doing those kids no favors by not fixing the broken system.

Great rhetoric. Unfortunately not matched by an actual conservative policy challenge with real reforms, one which would break the big government grip on education.

Instead, Bush ended up producing a "reform" package working amicably with TED FREAKING KENNEDY, which right there was a flashing red warning sign. The resulting "reforms" have ended up turning into Common Core, and haven't done a damn thing to break the big government stranglehold on the system.

202 By "stick-built houses" you must mean "frame construction." I got a little lecture in Belgium from a masonry trade-school instructor, about how in Belgium they get these strong winds from across the sea, and those little stick American houses would just never stand up there. He was thinking, of course, of house trailers.

Now, I own two substantial buildings of concrete block with auxiliary steel framing (Deathtrap In Earthquake!!), and have had an old frame garage knocked down by tornadoes (twice!), so believe me when I tell you that seeing the bare walls still standing when all the windows and the roof are gone is small comfort as you slowly sort across two counties to try to find your birth certificate. What the hell is this, a masonic lodge?

Wind ratings are for straight line wind. Solid poured walls with re-rod, above ground, will not save you from catastrophic damage if you happen to be in the path of a tornado. I'm not anti-Sooner: Oklahoma is a beautiful place with a lot of nice people. I have a couple of friends there. It is not the only place with tornadoes. We use them in Ohio to scare the Californians away. So far it is working.

When I was in college, the mason's union started putting out bumper stickers that said "Save Our Forests: Build With Masonry." It only took the Carpenters (didn't Karen have a great voice though?) a couple of months to counter with "Support Your Local Alcoholic: Build With Masonry." Because, you know, carpenters don't drink at all, hardly. It is the custom around here, though, to start every major concrete job by pouring a good-luck shot into the mix.
