Good Morning Morons. Today is Tuesday, March 17, 2015, Saint Patrick's Day. Saint Patrick was a 5th-century Romano-British Christian missionary and bishop in Ireland. Known as the "Apostle of Ireland", he is the primary patron saint of Ireland, along with Saints Brigit and Columba. There are many legends of Saint Patrick. The Shamrock, which is, now associated with St Patrick's day is said to have originated with St Patrick when he used a three leaved shamrock to illustrate the holy trinity. Another legend, which is dubious at best, is that he drove the snakes out of Ireland. Scientists maintain that following the glacial period Ireland never had any snakes. In any case, the holiday in the US has become known more for drinking and partying than any religious overtones. In fact, the Irish bar here in Charleston will be packed for blocks around. You would be lucky to get within a half mile of the place.

Supposedly the Iranians have raised an issue with the 47 letter posted as an open letter to Iran.
The Associated Press, citing a senior U.S. official, reported that the letter, which was signed by 47 of 54 GOP members, first came up in negotiations on Sunday and was raised again Monday in discussions led by Secretary of State John Kerry and Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif. IOW this is most likely BS from Kerry's minions at the direction of the Choom. http://fxn.ws/1AQRjH8 Posted by: Vic We Have No Party at March 17, 2015 06:39 AM (wlDny) 3
Most incompetent administration in US history. The Choom's minions have paid out a record $125B in fraudulent and improper payments.

The headline link to this article at Fox says voting reform. The actuality is "voting fraud made easy".
Seventeen years after Oregon became the first state to hold all elections with mail-in ballots, it took another pioneering step on Monday to broaden participation by automatically registering people to vote. This is a straight up call to make the Democrats the permanent controllers of OR. http://fxn.ws/1ElEdUy Posted by: Vic We Have No Party at March 17, 2015 06:39 AM (wlDny) 5
A new theory on Stonehenge. It was an elevated alter/temple to keep the "priests feet from touching the ground". It's BS of course but who gives a big one. We can't even settle on what happened yesterday in most cases, so how do they expect to tell what happened here 5,000 years ago.

More AP crap on Fox:
The White House appeared to confirm Monday that former CIA Director David Petraeus is advising the Obama administration on Islamic State issues, even after he pleaded guilty two weeks earlier to giving classified material to his mistress. What the hell is "appeared to confirm"? And Petraeus did not plead guilty to giving his mistress classified material. He pled guilty to improper handling. When what he should have done is hide it in his socks. http://fxn.ws/1CoxmwZ Posted by: Vic We Have No Party at March 17, 2015 06:40 AM (wlDny) 7
I have to give Trey Gowdey a down-check on this one. He is giving Scankles more time to hand over docs. He should just go ahead an call for a vote in the House for criminal contempt. But, this could be a case of Boner refusing to cooperate.

Sometimes you have to prove the obvious:
A sweeping study of some 130,213 news articles on the 2012 presidential match between President Obama and Mitt Romney has proven anew that there was a strong pro-Democratic bias in the U.S. and international press. If we had a real FEC the MFM would be charged with illegal campaign contributions. The law should be revised to prohibit news stories about the President or politics in general 90 days before an election. http://washex.am/1Dt9yte Posted by: Vic We Have No Party at March 17, 2015 06:43 AM (wlDny) 18

On Monday, Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-NC) put forth legislation banning future ATF rifle ammo bans.
I view this as a purely political move. He must know that this has little chance of passing in the Senate because no-nutsack McConehead will not use the nuclear option and the Choom would veto it even if they did. If they were serious about throttling the ATF back they would either completely defund it (which is off the table) or defund this particular action. http://bit.ly/1HWpa7x Posted by: Vic We Have No Party at March 17, 2015 06:46 AM (wlDny) 31

I am guessing that the reason Dodge is restricting the number of 700 horsepower Hellcats is the need to comply with CAFE standards.
I would suggest that they explore the possibility of making E85 only engines and seeing if that would put them in compliance. After all, E85 is only 15% gasoline so if the car gets 10 miles per gallon of fuel, instead of dividing that 10 miles by one gallon, divide by the 0.15 gallons of gasoline in a gallon of E85 to get 66.667 miles per gallon of gasoline. E85 has an octane rating of 110 so it ought to be possible to increase the compression ratio of their existing engines up to somewhere in the 14:1 to 20:1 range and boost them up to 1000 horsepower. Or you could go in the other direction and get 700 horsepower out of a smaller, lighter engine. In any event, Dodge could make some screaming cars, sell them for serious bucks to people who would be happy to have them and make the corn farmers in Iowa happy. Oh, yeah, the air would also be cleaner. Posted by: Obnoxious A-Hole at March 17, 2015 07:20 AM (KDbAT) 87

one more from weaselzipper, saw this yesterday, and re-reading itm makes it more scary:
Many Democrats would like to see a first-tier figure challenge Hillary Clinton for the party's presidential nomination. Vox editor-in-chief Ezra Klein agrees, but his choice isn't Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, or Martin O'Malley. On Monday, Klein sent up a trial balloon emblazoned with the name of Al Gore. As Klein sees it, reducing the "existential threat" of climate change should be the main theme of a Gore candidacy, though he admitted that the issue might end up costing Gore votes. That said, it's a risk that could pay off big if Gore's elected, since "climate change is an issue where the president has real unilateral authority." In any event, funding the campaign wouldn't seem problematic. Klein noted that Gore himself now is "fabulously wealthy - richer, even, than Mitt Romney" and added, given super-rich environmentalists' esteem for the star of An Inconvenient Truth, that "it's easy to imagine, say, billionaire Tom Steyer gathering some friends and putting some massive superPAC money behind Gore." Posted by: Yip at March 17, 2015 07:49 AM (84SRe) This is, more and more, how business is done anymore. Big Government and Big Business collude to come up with a scheme to squeeze the public for more money. Business rolls it out, Government makes it mandatory, both sides rake in the money and laugh all the way to the bank while we get robbed blind. The Left always sees the business part and wants to assign them all of the blame, since in their backwards worldview working for the government automatically makes perfect angels of people, but the crony businesses wouldn't be able to pull it off without the politicians (in both parties) that encourage, enable, and profit from their behavior. In case you missed the noon update yesterday, I matched. Which means I'll be spending the next seven years of my life teaching white blood cells to eat things they don't normally eat. And from lengthy instructions barked at me last night, I assume I won't be traveling very far to do that.
So my outcome was satisfactory, by the Nero Wolfe standard. All the vaunted suspense and secrecy building up to the big reveal at Friday's ceremonies leaks like a sieve. The only real worry about the next 3 days is the Winston Wolf standard. So far as I can tell, everyone near and dear to me matched, and nobody seems afraid they're stuck with their 20th choice. There are at least three in our class who did not match, and they're jockeying for position in the second-round draft. Gossip says all three have good grades, but the stink of entitlement led them to choose poor strategy and douchey personalities. So, happy happy and joy joy here. Thanks for the good thoughts. I'm resolved to become a mature and responsible adult now, which should make my comments here much less entertaining. Just the price of doing business. MTBE... totally predicted but the politics of " we must do something now " eclipsed reason. The tards in California are the root of gasoline additives. I'm so skeptical I even wonder if taking lead out of gasoline was really necessary. Back when they did it most engines had carbs. Surely taking lead out forced engine wonks to develop direct fuel injection and computer controlled stuff, but still... I honestly think the CAFE standards California forced on the whole country are total BS envirnonmeenie commie control. They mandate shit because they can.

Short history of why we have ethanol. . . . .Additionally, the Federal Government was looking for a way to increase the money from the gas tax without being too obvious. They listened to big Ethanol and realized that 10% ethanol mix gets less mileage than 100% gasoline, and presto, a stealth increase for the Transportation fund with nobody the wiser. Just a few extra pennies per fill-up in taxes, but Americans fill up billions of times a week. Posted by: The Great White Scotsman at March 17, 2015 08:08 AM (4oSLk) 165

IMO, ethanol happened because everyone benefited except the end user. Manufacturers of small engines got to sell more. Ethanol ruins older cars, so auto manufacturers were ok with it... etc. Not to mention the politics and hooplah. No one in the whole process of the mandate gave a shit what the end result would be to the consumer who had no skin in the game. Huge boondoggle of epic fail. Posted by: Yip at March 17, 2015 07:49 AM (84SRe)" Look at the time line. In the 1960s they started taking the lead out of gasoline. The result was lower octane and without the lubrication from lead, the valves started sticking and burning. The auto manufacturers responded by lowering the compression ratios of the engines which made them less efficient and caused them to use more gasoline. Then the Arabs raised the price of oil by a lot. During the scramble to do something, even if it is wrong, a whole lot of schemes were tried including ethanol. A couple of other important factors have been affecting things at the same time. The EPA keeps growing in power for its own bureaucratic reasons and also because it suits the religious views of many deep green atheist progressives. Also the oil industry works very hard to prevent any alternative from gasoline from being widely adopted. They use the EPA as their cat's paw to kill alternatives like CNG conversions. The main issue with ethanol is that it has to work in vehicles optimized for low octane unleaded gas which requires low compression ratio engines. WASHINGTON -- The White House is removing a federal regulation that subjects its Office of Administration to the Freedom of Information Act, making official a policy under Presidents Bush and Obama to reject requests for records to that office.
The White House said the cleanup of FOIA regulations is consistent with court rulings that hold that the office is not subject to the transparency law. The office handles, among other things, White House record-keeping duties like the archiving of e-mails. But the timing of the move raised eyebrows among transparency advocates, coming on National Freedom of Information Day and during a national debate over the preservation of Obama administration records. It's also Sunshine Week, an effort by news organizations and watchdog groups to highlight issues of government transparency. "The irony of this being Sunshine Week is not lost on me," said Anne Weismann of the liberal Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, or CREW. Krakauer thinks McCandless was poisoned by a mold that grows on the wild potato seeds he was eating. They know he was improperly storing them. There's a lot more to the story than the way it was generally reported. The kid was reckless and stupid but he did actually know how to take care of himself in the wild. Krakaer's conclusion is debatable, but he must be given his due as an expert on the subject. He's investigated it more than probably anyone alive. Herzog ran with Livni who is well known for her support for pre 1967 borders and the division of Jerusalem.
The interview where he said he thought the JEF would get a good deal was only last week. In that same interview he said he did not see nuclear iran as a threat. Which seems problematic. And I am familiar with israeli politics. I know they have Netanyahu fatigue. And I am familiar with something else. I am familiar when an outside entity works from within to control elections by selling unicorn farts and hope and change. Everyone in Israel has a military background. I went to the Chicago St. Paddys day parade about 30 some years ago. It was an election year. Everything in the parade is either a union float or union walking along holding a sign or a float/walkers for somebody running for election. No bands that I remember, a few kids on a float dancing.

Them is "Canada" geese. To find out if they're Canadian, you'd have to check their passports.
I have a small race car built in 1946 that is powered by a Ford V8 "set up for alcohol." The main issue in that application was the Strombergs icing up. I will not call the class of car by its competition name because it is Fake Irish Day, and I know how you people are about tossing little people around. It is true, the only way alcohol makes any sense as a motor fuel is in extremely high-compression engines. Without that, it cannot produce as much power as gasoline. Once you raise an engine's compression ratio, it won't run on gas. The compromise is to use a variable compressor supercharger, and a sensor. I am told that a famous south-German U-boat motorenwerken makes such a product. Initial studies on high-compression antiknock compounds were done by "Boss" Kettering, who said alcohol would do very nicely, and then suddenly reversed himself and endorsed lead. There was widespread rumor that monetary influence was involved. It was quite a scandal, in the 1920's. Insider: Pew Trust. Posted by: Stringer Davis at March 17, 2015 09:01 AM (xq1UY) 257

Posted by: Nevergiveup at March 17, 2015 08:54 AM (rDqRv) Bleak, but accurate. The only way Iran would let its nuclear program "idle" for 10 years is if Israel is removed from the planet and the US becomes a Shia Muslim nation. Jarrett's and her familiar's window of opportunity to do that is the 2 1/2 months between the November 2016 election and noon Eastern January 20, 2017. Any earlier and there would be political hell to pay. Any later and they (hopefully) wouldn't have the military to pull it off. Please do not say "Israel has only 20 or so months to live." Posted by: Bruce at March 17, 2015 08:50 AM (8ikIW) I haven't been to many places in Charleston. My understanding is that most of the restaurants are outstanding. I have been to Tommy Condon's Irish bar/restaurant. The food is not that great but the atmosphere and live music is great. It is in old Charleston so parking is impossible to find so take a cab. Cabs are very cheap in Charleston. What I have found most interesting about Charleston is simply driving around old Charleston and looking at the old houses and buildings. A buggy ride for that tour would also probably be nice if the weather is like today. There is also the carrier with old aircraft in the harbor that is a nice tour from what I have been told. A journalist, researching for an article on the complex political situation in Northern Ireland, was in a pub in a war-torn area of Belfast. One of his potential informants leaned over his pint of Guinness and suspiciously cross-examined the journalist: "Are you a Catholic or a Protestant?" the Irishman asked.
"Neither," replied the journalist; "I'm an atheist." The Irishman, not content with this answer, put a further question: "Ah, but is it the Catholic God or the Protestant God ye don't believe in? Posted by: Little Miss O'Spellcheck at March 17, 2015 09:04 AM (4pyhg) 261
