Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | It's Going to Take Several Days to Go Through All of Hillary's LiesSo let's start with her dissembling on whether she sent or received classified information from her insecure private email account. Sean Davis points notes, correctly, that anyone who has any experience with the Clintons must take account of their deliberate attempts to deceive by microscopically parsing words. This is an Old trick by now, as besuits* our Old Girl, and I don't know why the Clintons think this can still work. Davis looks at the question and the answer and begins analyzing, Clinton Perjury Defense style:QUESTION: Were you ever --were you ever specifically briefed on the security implications of using -- using your own email server and using your personal address to email with the president? CLINTON: I did not email any classified material to anyone on my email. There is no classified material. So I’m certainly well-aware of the classification requirements and did not send classified material.Davis notes several things, among them: She says "There is no classified material." This is such a screaming Red Flag I will not insult you to explain it-- but if you could do with a little insulting, read Sean Davis. Another major Screaming Read Flag ** is Clinton's insistence that she never sent classified email. Why does she insist on sending being the important thing? Because her phone was definitely, inarguably receiving classified information literally 24/7:

Right. If the media were unbiased, they would ask her how she checked her email while traveling around the world. Because if she logged in to clintonemail.com on her ipad on the wifi network in a Russian hotel, I'm sure they grabbed all of her key strokes, including log in info. Just sayin'. Obama travels around with a communication TENT. When he's in foreign countries, he uses US military satellites to communicate, and has to hide in a tent so no foreign intelligence agency can use acoustics devices to record him (or lip reading). Yet Hillary walks about with an unsecured black berry and a personal email inbox. Posted by: mynewhandle at March 11, 2015 12:52 PM (AkOaV) 31

Yes, the Clinton's have a history of this, but for most of the history with the Clinton's involvement, it was Bill who the country cared about (in a good or bad way). Hillary was sort of a side show. She was just the First Lady, or just 1 of 100 Senators, or just the Secretary of State. All important, but never the lead dog so to speak. It was really Bill. And Bill was good at lying. He has a charm about him that enables his lying. And of course he had the press to enable him.
Hillary may have neither. She certainly has no charm/charisma. Hard to be a good liar without that skill. I'm not sure she really has the press - who is much more in love with Obama than HRC. And now she is the lead dog - as the Dem front-runner. Good luck to her, but let's just say I don't really think she is up to the job. Posted by: SH at March 11, 2015 12:52 PM (gmeXX) 34

It is impossible for her to have not sent classified material in response.
What she is saying is (1) that she never sent classified documents as an attachment. You know, she didn't commit the crime that no one is accusing her of committing. Because ANY response in an official capacity to ANY other government official is--at some level--classified. Make no mistake about it: If I hacked into her email and I published even ONE of her responses I will be arrested and I WILL be charged with espionage and dissemination of classified material. And (2) Only the President, AFAIK, has the authority on his say so to declassify material. Everyone else has to get approval to declassify anything! Hillary is assuming that power for herself by stating that nothing she sent was classified. That is, it was classified, but, I have decided it is declassified. But no: You can't see it. And let us not forget: All of these people--ALL OF THEM--work for us. We have a right to know EVERYTHING! Posted by: RoyalOil at March 11, 2015 12:56 PM (ZvKdv) 51

Davis notes other areas of obvious Clintonian Parsing, such as Hillary refusing to discuss sensitive (rather than "classified") material.
"Sensitive But Unclassified (SBU) information is information originated within the Department of State which warrants a degree of protection and administrative control and meets the criteria for exemption for mandatory public disclosure under the Freedom of Information Act." "The Department of State does not require that SBU information be specifically marked, but does require that holders be made aware of the need for controls." "SBU information will be afforded the same protection as that required for FOUO information." Nixon was a paranoid crook but he was a a good politician.
Posted by: SH at March 11, 2015 01:12 PM (gmeXX) You know, I suspect Nixon got a raw deal. He was vilified by the press (dominated at the time by the NYT and WaPo) because he was instrumental in nailing Alger Hiss (whom they vociferously supported). They crapped on him as a Red baiter because in his first campaign he'd called out Helen Gahagan Douglas as a Communist (or at least a Communist sympathizer) - which we now know she was. The only whiffy thing about Nixon of which I'm aware is the Checkers speech, and I don't know what to make of that. And he wasn't paranoid; the press really WAS out to get him, and eventually did. If the MSM devoted 1% of that effort to Choom Boy, he'd be in Leavenworth right now. Please make an appt for me with the tunic maker. My waist has increased 1" with the stress of it all. My downward dog is suffering (if you know what I mean...and only you can relieve it, my darling assistant). Where was I? Oh, yes...the last tunic, using the cables as seam supports or whatever they are called in the tailoriing, is brilliant! The use of the folded cables as hem weights is equally brilliant and similar to what the Romanov's hiding jewels as they attempted escape. I could hide an entire hard drive under the tunic! Poor Bill thinks a "hard drive" is either after his Cialis or during golf!! I would like some designer tunics made in summer fabric, like seersucker. Not too sheer, but enough floating fabric to circulate the ole pits and saggy bits. Such a lovely name and thought...the sucker of sheer. Also the finest silk and brocade cottons. No rayon or synthetics, remember...rash on bazooms which you have to rub salves. There are hidden pockets in my chemise as well for the 55,000 emails (morons: chemise to her is really made of tent material with straps. She thinks it looks like a wee corset, but that is with the special concussion glasses that distort). In reality it looks like a straight jacket, which the tunics sort of hide. Any bad thing Nixon did after 1948 can be forgiven, in my view. He had a right to be paranoid because--after Hiss--powerful, pissed-offpeople really were out to get him. And the 'crook' part? Nixon's crime was authorizing hush-money payoffs to the Watergate burglars. Please tell me how that rates against deliberately arming drug cartels with guns bought via straw buys orchestrated by the ATF in order to justify increased gun control legislation and regulatory measures. Honest question. I was a teen in deepest darkest Africa for much of Billy Jeff's presidency. I read Time and watched CNN international at the time, but I honestly don't remember too much until the Lewinsky scandal, which happened while I was in college here.
I seem to remember knowing they were a shady family, but I can't be 100% sure. ______________________________ They're both crooks, but Hillary is the greedier of the two. Hillary was booted from her first job out of law school, on a Watergate commission, for behaving unethically. Then she flunked the D.C. bar exam. Then she went to Arkansas to hook her wagon to Bill's star, because a failed lawyer who'd flunked the bar exam and already been fired from her first job didn't have the greatest career prospects. Then she used Bill's connections to get hooked up with some Arkansas law firms, where she did little legal work, but used her connection to Bill to steer a lot of lucrative state contracts to the firm's clients. She also used the firm and its clients to launder Bill's dirty campaign contributions, which, after Bill became governor, appears to have been her main occupation. Hillary has always been corrupt, but Bill's success in national politics gave her the opportunity to pull in much bigger bucks. Posted by: TrivialPursuer at March 11, 2015 01:26 PM (lmdHn) 253

Hillary has always been corrupt, but Bill's success in national politics gave her the opportunity to pull in much bigger bucks.
- Hillary also made up phony criminal charges to get her people into the travel office, double billed her law clients, hid the billing records that proved that she double billed her clients, "straightened up" Vince Foster's office after his alleged suicide but before the police got there, was involved in the Whitewater real estate scam, made a very suspicious $100,000 profit trading cattle futures. Just sayin'. Two things: 1. Server 2008 R2 has a VPN role that you can turn on. If her tech did this the right way and she created an encrypted VPN tunnel to login, the Russians would have a hard time sniffing her keystrokes. 2. People have been poking at the server and someone found an OWA login FACING THE INTERNET. This is Exchange's web interface for a webmail UI. This. For generations US Citizens had found problems and solved them locally. But suddenly *this problem* requires the US Government? No. There is no Constitutional Authority for the existence of the EPA. The closest I can get to Constitutional Authority for environmental issues is under the General Welfare clause- but that talks about spending, not regulation/lawmaking. Ergo, the US Government could raise and spend money on environmental issues (if you squint real hard at the General Welfare clause)- but they would have to act through the States or the The People to do so. Strongly doubt Nixon envisioned the EPA as it is in its present incarnation. But--again--Nixon brought down Alger Hiss, whose potential for damage was inestimable. With Whitaker Chambers, Nixon uncovered and exposed a Soviet spy who was rapidly on the rise to(probably) SecState or even (possibly) POTUS. Either you don't understand the stakes or you're a historical illiterate. Not my job to school you, either way. Read a fucking book.

As indicated above, I don't think creation of the EPA was a bad idea at the time, but even if it were, it pales in significance with Nixon's nailing Hiss (which he did single-handedly, when all hope was gone, according to Whitaker Chambers in his book), or opening the door to China, to name a few things. Nixon got a raw deal, IMO. Posted by: Jay Guevara at March 11, 2015 01:47 PM (oKE6c) 367

Funded by the Foundation? So was it paid for with foreign contributions? And doesn't that mean that the server - and her government-related communications - are on a piece of equipment owned by a non-governmental organization, and that the Clinton foundation IT staff have/had access to it along w/ whatever co. they outsourced back-up responsibilities (none of them having security clearance)? So, again: where is the server physically located and has it always been there? Gets worse and worse. Posted by: Lizzy at March 11, 2015 01:48 PM (bdqzU) 371
Don't know if anyone has asked the question, but did Shrillary hire a server administrator to manage her email server? Any responsible administrator would have taken regular backups and stored them off-site.
If she didn't have someone to manage the server and no one did backups, she could have permanently lost public records in the event of a disk failure. Posted by: Marmo at March 11, 2015 01:49 PM (QW+AD) 372

I mentioned this on twitter, but anyone who seriously thinks 55K pages of email - not 55K EMAILS, but just hard copy pages -- is enough to cover Hillary's entire tenure as Secretary of State is either hopelessly delusional or else doesn't think Hillary did all that much during her stint in the State Dept. I think it was Sean Davis at the Federalist who said that the # of emails her people turned over would have to equate to an average of only 20 emails, sent AND received, per day. Here it is from Business Insider:
"But homebrew email servers are generally not as reliable, secure from hackers, or protected from fires or floods as those in commercial data centers..... In November 2012, without explanation, Clinton's private email account was reconfigured to use Google's servers as a backup in case her own personal email server failed, according to internet records. That is significant because Clinton publicly supported Google's accusations in June 2011 that China's government had tried to break into the Google mail accounts of senior US government officials. It was one of the first instances of a major American corporation openly accusing a foreign government of hacking. Then, in July 2013, five months after Clinton resigned as secretary of state, her private email server was reconfigured again to use a Denver-based commercial email provider, MX Logic, which is now owned by McAfee Inc., a top internet security company.". Also, given that we now know that the
environmentalists lied, lied and lied about everything--and still are--how do we know that was not natural, methane or such, that was burning? Remember all the hysteria about acid rain? The hole in the ozone? DDT? Posted by: RoyalOil at March 11, 2015 01:45 PM (ZvKdv) The Cuyahoga River had liquid hydrocarbons floating on top of it that had been dumped into the river upstream. The fire(s) - there'd been more than one - weren't caused by methane, which is a gas that would escape to the atmosphere. You'd have to have an enormous amount of methane outgassing from a river to achieve the lower combustibility limit for methane. Acid rain really WAS a problem, since burning high sulfur fuels generate a shitload of sulfur dioxide, which reacts with ozone in the upper atmosphere to make sulfur trioxide, the anhydride of sulfuric acid (i.e., it reacts with water to make sulfuric acid). Re the ozone layer, credible scientists (some of whom I knew, and who were sensible, and not idealogues) were concerned about it (in the context of the SST) long before it became a cause celebre. I don't know where it stands now, or where the truth lies, but not building the SST, and changing to other refrigerants than chlorofluorocarbons (which decompose in the upper atmosphere to yield chlorine atoms that catalytically - not stoichiometrically - decompose two ozone molecules into three oxygen molecules) was a small price to pay to avoid the risk. (Compare the global warming shit, where the price is staggering, and the science dodgy.) The DDT thing was probably bullshit; I don't know whether DDT really affects birds' eggs or not, but in any case DDT is invaluable in controlling malaria-bearing mosquitoes in the Third World, so fuck the birds. Not all environmental issues are bogus. I think the Reds realized that they could hitch their wagon to environmental issues and ginned up bogus ones after seeing the potential for agitation raised by legitimate ones. Drivers' training and licensure is a highly important, interstate issue. Given the "full faith and credit" clause, a driver trained in one state can drive in any state, therefore any state with low standards can cause trouble in all the other states.

Should the Federal government not allow states to issue drivers licenses to illegal immigrants?
If the Feds were doing their job re: illegal immigrants, that would be a moot point. The Feds *are* specifically given authority over immigration and naturalization. And, IIRC, it's already supposed to be illegal knowingly to aid/harbor illegal aliens (see also: Constitutionally granted Federal Authority), which granting a Drivers License arguably is. So, at the very least, there is a cogent argument from Constitutional Authority which says- yes, the Federal Government both should and should be able to forbid States from offering Drivers Licenses to illegals. You answered your own question. The government would not be able to deficit spend like they do if they didn't have the ability to spin up the ol' printing press. Because our currency is fiat (as in, government says let there be currency and there is), government can manipulate the money supply in all kinds of ways. Stealth taxes through inflation being the biggest job killer of all. I'm not a Ronulan gold-bug, but if we had something that constrained the amount of money that could be printed, and if congress set the value of dollar to ounce of gold (which I believe was at $30 or so to an ounce under FDR... check where gold is at now to see how much value the USD has lost since then), it would be damned hard for congress to continuously devalue our currency. The Watergate crimes and cover-up
Massive expansion of the Federal government financed by deficit spending Losing the Vietnam War, after the deaths of additional 10s of thousands of Americans and untold Vietnamese. Enacting a detente policy that helped prop up the Soviet Union and Maoist China for another couple of decades Taking the US off the Gold Standard Watergate was baby shit. Obongo does worse than that before lunch. By all accounts Nixon's crime in Watergate was not hanging out to dry operatives who had acted off their own bat. He was worried about leaks of classified information to the NYT (thanks, Ellsberg), but hardly needed inside info on the Democrats' plans, since McGovern was obviousy a non-starter. Nixon didn't lose the Vietnam War; Congress did, inter alia by hamstringing appropriations for the RVN. Recall Nixon was bombing the shit out of Hanoi and Haiphong, and the North Vietnamese were crying uncle until Dems in Congress scuppered that strategy. Detente with the USSR and PRC arguably served a useful purpose, by driving a wedge between the two main Red powers (who later came to blows - actual fighting - along the Amur River). Divide and conquer is a sound strategy. As long as both were at daggers drawn with us, they'd get along together. See, e.g., the USSR and US fighting Nazi Germany, and the aftermath once Germany had been defeated. The US HAD to come off the gold standard; there isn't enough gold in the world to support the currency of an economy as large as ours. Posted by: Jay Guevara at March 11, 2015 02:21 PM (oKE6c) 493
"Taking the US off the Gold Standard"
I agree that this decision was crummy, but what's interesting is that Nixon wasn't an economics guy. He wasn't a reader of the classics of conservative economics literature, as Reagan was. Nixon was obsessively focused on foreign policy to the detriment of many other things. So on economics, he was reliant on staff and appointees. Who basically walked in and said, "There's a terrible crisis, you have only one realistic option, if you don't take it your key foreign policy initiatives will be ruined, here are the documents to sign." With ZERO contrary opinion or guidance being voiced. The prime movers in this? Ivy League RINO apparatchik George Schultz, and that oily old scoundrel John Connally. Connally by report having tipped off a bunch of his buddies in high finance about the closing of the gold window so that they could quietly front-run the trade. Posted by: bonhomme at March 11, 2015 02:23 PM (jhqr1) Well, yes, I guess they could lie about the amount of gold they had. But it (supposedly) gets audited from time to time. Other than that, not really. If $34 USD were convertible to 1 ounce of gold, the number of ounces of gold in the vaults constrains how many USDs they could print. Of course, what they would try to do is say "Hey everyone, now it takes $40 USD to convert to 1 ounce of gold" but that would very obviously make everyone poorer over night, and the people would probably not let congress do it. The way the system operates now is that our currency loses 3-5% of its value (or whatever) every year, which is essentially a stealthy tax. And the federal reserve controls that stealth tax, not our federal government. And most people don't even realize it. With a gold-based currency, I could put $10,000 under the mattress, and it would have roughly the same buying power 10 years later as it did when I put it there. That is no longer the case. Your money loses value every second its sitting in your wallet. Posted by: mynewhandle at March 11, 2015 02:28 PM (AkOaV) 523

The gold standard pegs the exchange rate of currency to gold (it was $35/oz.), so to increase the supply of money you either have to mine more gold or change the exchange rate. Monkeying with the exchange rate defeats the purpose of having a gold standard, viz., that the fiat currency is backed by a fixed amount of gold. I don't think that's true, either, even though that's what they teach in econ class. I think recessions while we were on the gold standard were business-cycle driven, and not monetary policy-driven. So yes, usually short, although they could be brutal. They were also usually isolated to, say, the banking industry, or the farming industry (and all industries that derive from those), and were not economy-wide recessions, since your money was still worth the same. In other words, your income may shrink, but your savings was still there. But we still have those kind of recessions, even being completely fiat currency and using Keynesian deficit spending. So I don't think that problem was solved. Posted by: mynewhandle at March 11, 2015 02:31 PM (AkOaV) 535

Posted by: SH at March 11, 2015 02:30 PM (gmeXX) Well, for thousands of years of different countries being on metal currencies, usually the amount of gold / silver / whatever mined was enough to expand the money supply sufficiently. I guess in theory, that could be a problem though if the population and economy grew and the money supply didnt. but the answer would be to then peg an ounce of gold at, say $37 dollars instead of $34, which would have an immediate inflationary effect and flood the markets with money. But I don't think that was ever a serious problem (running out of money in circulation). After President Obama in November announced plans to shelter millions of people from the threat of deportation, immigration officials wasted no time in carrying them out.
Thousands of young people who had applied for two-year reprieves from deportation instead were given three years free from the threat of being kicked out of the country. About 100,000 applications were approved before last month, when U.S. District Judge Andrew S. Hanen in Texas ordered a freeze on Obama's executive actions on immigration. Now, the administration's disclosure that it approved those applications has added yet another complication, and potentially weeks of more delays, to its attempts to restart the ambitious immigration initiatives. Hanen said in a filing this week that he wanted Justice Department lawyers to "fully explain" why they didn't mention the three-year permits before last week. Why has nobody bothered checking Bill Clinton's involvement in
Watergate? Especially now that the Call-girl Theory of Watergate has emerged as the likely storyline of the scandal. Bill's involvement would explain why Rodham performed so unethically on the Committee. Rodham fought to deny counsel, limit cross examination, limit witnesses and generally suppress discovery. Why? Strange how nobody, not all of his 50+ biographers have noted that Bill Clinton had a working, professional relationship with Alfred Baldwin, the Watergate eavesdropper. Baldwin interviewed and hired Clinton to teach a law enforcement course at the University of New Haven in 1971-72. Clinton was very closely connected to persons overheard on the Watergate tap like Spencer Oliver, Severin Beliveau and Wilbur Mills. Clinton and Alfred Baldwin left New Haven for Washington DC at roughly the same time. Bill Clinton's background included ties to brothels and prostitutes in Hot Springs and New Haven. Clinton was assigned by McGovern campaign official Rick Stearns to stroke and manage Wilbur Mills D-ARK around the time of the break-ins. Mills is listed as one of the persons overheard on the watergate tap. Two other Clinton associates, Spencer Oliver and Severin Beliveu were also overheard on the tap. Other than that, not really. If $34 USD were convertible to 1 ounce of
gold, the number of ounces of gold in the vaults constrains how many USDs they could print. That's exactly the problem. To illustrate with a thought experiment: Suppose you had five business associates (shopkeepers, tradesmen, etc.), and you had ten $10 bills between you, all backed by gold, and exchangeable at a fixed rate. No problem; the currency circulates between you, effectively serving as markers for who owes whom what. Now expand the population to 50,000 people. You've still only got ten $10 bills, so clearly you need to expand the supply of money, or put up with a barter economy. But you can't expand the supply of money unless you mine more gold, or change the exchange rate of currency to gold. To do neither is grossly deflationary, and will collapse the economy, returning it to the level of the Middle Ages (trading a chicken for a pair of shoes type of thing, because there isn't enough currency). But it would still (theoretically) be representing the same amount of wealth. But in practice, I suppose the worry would be that USD's were being held by people and not circulated, and there would literally be a currency shortage and people would have to go back to trading livestock for goods or whatever. Posted by: Jay Guevara at March 11, 2015 02:37 PM (oKE6c) Yes, it makes sense. But we mined gold constantly in order to increase our gold supplies. And like I said above, I can see the theoretical problems with a gold-based currency. But we had one for the first 200 years of our country and did not run in to those problems. Rome had silver and gold based currencies for hundreds of years and did not run in to that problem. (they did however start mixing cheaper metals in to their coins so that the govt could "print" more money, which some would argue lead to the fall of the roman empire -- debasing the currency). However, we have proof that when the government printing presses are not constrained by ANYTHING, the government just simply expands the money supply as much as they want, which makes all of US poorer. Which hardly seems like a better solution than a gold (or whatever)-backed currency. Posted by: mynewhandle at March 11, 2015 02:42 PM (AkOaV) 579

But I think our current fiat system has WAY more issues, including the fact that our money is, at the end of the day, only worth the paper its printed on. While we're the world reserve currency, that's not a huge issue because everyone else is as fucked as us if our currency collapses. But at some point, we will no longer be the reserve currency (especially if foreigners keep getting fucked by our expansions of the money supply devaluing their USD reserves), in which case I don't see how we're not ROYALLY FUCKED overnight. However, we have proof that when the government printing presses are not constrained by ANYTHING, the government just simply expands the money supply as much as they want, which makes all of US poorer. Which hardly seems like a better solution than a gold (or whatever)-backed currency.
Posted by: mynewhandle at March 11, 2015 02:42 PM (AkOaV) I don't see how a gold standard could work today, with an economy of this size. Rome's economy was comprised of many things, including an agrarian based power structure in may areas (cash poor but rich in lands and you didn't starve), slavery, tribute from foreign lands and occupied territories, barter, paying in salt and other commodities and debasement of currency. Having said that, there is little or no control or hitting the presses like a monkey hitting the morphine button. I can see the theoretical problems with a gold-based currency. But we had one for the first 200 years of our country and did not run in to those problems. Rome had silver and gold based currencies for hundreds of years and did not run in to that problem.
Wealth creation in the early US history was largely supported by developing land, something that for them was practically infinite in supply. Wealth creation in Rome was supported by the age old tradition of taking things from non-countrymen. Posted by: bonhomme at March 11, 2015 02:48 PM (jhqr1) 610

Okay, so I rarely make comments but this is a subject that has gotten a bit on my nerves. I know I am late to the comment party here and maybe nobody will read this... but I'm not going back to read all of the 540ish posts before mine either.
I also want to put this out there not because I am in any way trying to defend Clinton, but because I want to make sure we aren't making a fit out of something that is a non-story. Here are some questions I'd like to see answered to know whether or not this is a story! Of course, we can't expect Clinton to answer these herself, but we should try to dig down to find the truth. 1. Was the Email Server hosted at the Clinton Home? The Email Server can be a completely different machine from the WWW Server - so even if the domain was parked in the British VI the Emails could have gone to NY. If I were setting up a server, I would consider doing it this way. 2. Was Hillary's Blackberry connected to a Classified Server? In the military, people with clearance essentially have two email accounts. One is regular email (joe.grunt@unit.marines.mil) and one is something called "SIPRNet." It is regulation that Classified Material only go out via SIPRNet - because it is a closed system on more secure servers that can't go to the Internet. This system is also used by Department of State. If this is the case, perhaps Hillary had her Blackberry on SIPRNet. Also, there is not a snowball's chance in hell that anything on SIPRNet would be disclosed to the public, FOIAed, or probably even sent to Congress. 3. That being said, often times people do stupid stuff and send Classified Material through the regular email. This is indeed a reason why Hillary shouldn't have used her own server... but it doesn't mean that we should expect that she was receiving it much if at all. So, here is what I think is a likely scenario. Hillary, being as crafty as she is, had SIPRNet to get Classified Materials and her own personal servers for non-Classified emails. If she gets something through Classified channels that needs to be addressed, she can always tell an underling to do it for her, so she doesn't have to create a paper trail. By keeping her regular email on private servers, she can have the power of access for situations like there, where something embarrassing needs to be deleted. Were her tactics dishonest? Yes. Were they designed to specifically keep her out of the purview of oversight that are expected of our public officials? Hell yes. Will we find that she compromised National Security by engaging in this practice? Probably not. Again - I hate the Clintons as much as the rest of you. I'm just trying to warn you that this might be yet another one of those scandals that Conservatives get all worked up about that doesn't really have the teeth to take her down. I'd love to be proven wrong, but I don't think I will be. Posted by: Santos L. Halper at March 11, 2015 02:49 PM (eoOaz) 616

Posted by: Zombie William Bryce Jennings at March 11, 2015 02:47 PM (b7GF2) I don't know if a gold-backed currency would work either (its much easier to get off one then to get back on one), but I do know that fiat currency is a) unfair to savers and people who get the money 'down the line' when its already been devalued b) allows government to print unlimited money to buy shit they need c) is unsustainable when the issuers of said fiat currency are irresponsible with it and continuously expand the money supply to the point where they devalue EVERYONES currency. Money should just be something used for trade. It should not be so manipulateable by the government. Posted by: mynewhandle at March 11, 2015 02:51 PM (AkOaV) 620

But we mined gold constantly in order to increase our gold supplies.
Posted by: mynewhandle at March 11, 2015 02:42 PM (AkOaV) But mining more gold just kicks the can down the road. Suppose it wasn't 50,000 people, it was 500,000, or 5,000,000, or 500,000,000. At some point the size of the economy and of the population will expand beyond the ability to mine the requisite amount of gold. At its founding, the US comprised 13 states and fewer than five million people, so the population alone has grown 66-fold since then. Posted by: Jay Guevara at March 11, 2015 02:56 PM (oKE6c) 624

But I think our current fiat system has WAY more issues, including the
fact that our money is, at the end of the day, only worth the paper its printed on. Yeah, it does have a lot of issues, but that's because we elect scoundrels. I also think the issues can't be avoided by returning to the gold standard because, given the limited amount of gold, the only way to increase the money supply would be to monkey with the exchange rate. In essence, that's back to a fiat currency, because now the value of the currency is arbitrarily determined by some bureaucrat. So we're back to square one. @Meremortal: What do you want her to say? That she didn't send or receive Classified information via email? Oh wait, that's what she keeps saying!
The whole point of my post is to say that we can't think that this is going to bring her down - since Email is SPECIFICALLY FORBIDDEN for sending Classified Materials. Officials must use SIPRNet. Now, there will be slip-ups. For instance, I tell my employer that I do not use company email to send and receive dirty jokes. Do people sometimes send me dirty jokes to my work account? Yes. So I delete these messages, hope my employer doesn't notice, and tell people to send them to my personal account. Let's focus on what Hillary did wrong - she set up a private email server to get out of having any oversight. If she hired competent IT Consultants to maintain it for her, they used the exact same code and patches that the State Department would have used for their non-Classified Email Servers. Her email was likely not much less secure than the State Department. The crime here is that she ducked oversight, not that she endangered National Security... (Well, via emails. She did a good job endangering National Security by her policies.) Posted by: Santos L. Halper at March 11, 2015 03:10 PM (eoOaz) 628
unsustainable when the issuers of said fiat currency are irresponsible with it
THERE'S the rub. I was an academic for many years, and the university administration used to increase the overhead rate on grants all the time (typically taking somewhere between half and three-quarters right off the top). Whenever they raised the overhead rate, I'd squawk, and they'd say, "But we need to raise it because of inflation." But of course, the budgets on my grants already increased with inflation, so the absolute number of dollars they received also increased in proportion; the university administration had no justification for raising the RATE they charged. Except that they hired shitheads by the battalion to coordinate diversity (I hate uncoordinated diversity), and to send memos to other administrators about issues no one ever used to worry about. That, in a nutshell, is exactly what has happened with the Federal government. Posted by: Jay Guevara at March 11, 2015 03:11 PM (oKE6c) 629
Do those servers physically exist? Because if they do, any halfway competent techie can recover deleted files from them. That's the very reason that Lois Lerner physically destroyed her hard drive with a sledgehammer -- she knew that no amount of deleting could get rid of the 1's and 0's.
Posted by: zombie at March 11, 2015 12:56 PM (K4YiS) +++++++++++++++++++++ Unfortunately zombie, it IS possible nowadays to PERMANENTLY delete separate FILES from a hard drive - as opposed to permanently deleting the ENTIRE hard drive - via a sledgehammer. forensics WOULD pick up on the fact a file HAD been deleted - but that file and its contents would STILL remain unrecoverable. Let's keep one thing in mind, you can't just email something from a classified and secure network to an unclassified email account. It's a closed loop and won't work that way. You can't "dial out", so to speak.
Now, you can relay or spill classified info - over a phone or by typing it into a classified email. FOUO is much easier to pass along or spill. Maybe there were things on the Clinton server that weren't supposed to be there - her weasel words aren't encouraging. But, I'd be more concerned about the whole business being about obfuscating, preventing transparency and dodging FOIA requests.
