I will occasionally communicate with colleagues by email, and say something negative about someone else. Not gossip, but actual, you know, incompetence. I will NOT use names however, so I guess it looks more like gossip at times.
So then the person to whom I am sending will reply "Oh, you mean so and so?" And then I have to call them and say "don't use names, dammit!"
I think some people are just not programmed to keep it off the server/out of print/unphotographed. Everything has to be out there. I don't get that.

For all we know they heard it at another fraternity first, as an insult. Up thread somebody joked that a blow job was the SAE handshake. I am sure SAE was not the originator of that joke, but another frat or a dorm.
It's likely that they learned the song in the frat but we do not know. OU and SAE should find out

There was also a recent story about a frat holding an off-campus party in which they dressed as border patrol and immigrants or something.
These are actually local stories - stupid, drunk college kids doing stupid things. Don't think they need the president to weigh in on what the punishment should be.

There is an actual tradition of racism in fraternities. Mine was the first of 48 chapters nationwide to integrate in 1964. The southern chapters tried to get our charter revoked.
We got another black in 1975. In my era, '80 to '82, we had three. We were still one of the only integrated houses on campus.

The spectacle of these kids lives being ruined, thrown out of a college, etc it just rubs me the wrong way, especially because this nonsense is such a sideshow. The media won't go after a murderer like it will some who said the "N" word.
I don't think conservatives should defend these kids, but I don't like joining in on the lynch mob mentality in order to try and show liberals that we aren't racist.

I agree that what the frat kids did was stupid, but there seems to be a huge overreaction. Expelling the students, shutting down the fraternity, instituting a Title VI civil rights investigation? WTF?
What they were singing was offensive, no argument. But we are supposed to live in a free country where people are allowed to have offensive opinions, and even to express offensive opinions. The remedy is supposed to be reasoned counter-arguments -- not lawsuits and expulsions and bogus civil rights investigations.
I've seen no evidence to suggest that this was anything but a bunch of idiots singing a stupid racist song. Was any black person ever actually denied admittance to the frat? Was any black person ever actually lynched by the frat? If so, then by all means investigate and prosecute those discriminatory actions. But punishing students for singing a song is ludicrous. Is the university also going to start expelling students who sing along to rap songs that use the N-word or sing about b*tches and wh*res -- because those songs are offensive to a lot of people too.

Looks 3-D on my display.
At first I thought the painting was Dutch and I was mightily impressed, it had that look to it, then upon expanding the laptop view I failed to see thorns, broken leaves, dry untrimmed twigs, no bugs hidden in there nor crawling around. It is not an everyday utensil type vase. It did not look like a guy went out to the garden, cut a bunch of crap that bloomed that day, then stuffed the whole pile in a vase without even trimming nor shaking it out. Very casual. This painting is not that. And when you look into the reflection of light on the vase that defines its source and see from the tiny reflected bank of windows that the vase is in a very large hall, behind you, you're in it! You are pulled into the painting just by noticing the tiny reflection of light, that is your reward for noticing. Wait, what, no reflection, not in the vase nor the mirror? Well. That means it's not Dutch. Too bad. They're the most fun.
