Not all young people are a lost cause. I work with a lot of them. Well, on the occasions when I work different shifts, anyway. The ones that are going out and getting jobs have a clue, and they're connecting the dots at a good rate. Kids coming out of schools will trend Left as long as the Left controls the schools, but facing reality, making budget, and having responsibility undo that programming quickly in most people that aren't complete idiots.

We can. Think of how close that shit-weasel Perot came to winning when he created the Reform Party. People were - and are - ready for something different. A lot of people have quit voting because they believe the system is rigged. They're right, and damn it, they beat us to the realization by years.
Something that offer a legitimate choice will get a lot of support from people who had given up, and if we don't offend them by letting it be painted as a SoCon movement, it'll draw disaffected Democrats too.
Drop the Conservative label. Drop the social issues, use the 10th Amendment punt and say that all of them should be solved at the State level. Let's talk policy, because when it comes to policy, we're the only side with ideas that actually work!

Just barely. I used to be able to walk 2.5 miles in a half hour so it could be done.
5 hours => 7 miles and hour, 3.5 miles in a half hour.
Depends a lot on how rough or straight the route is.
But I think these walking to work stories are made up anyways. And not because it can't be done but because there's no rationale for them to do it.
Plus walk 10 hrs a day and then work so there's 18 hours minimum that leaves only 6 hours to sleep and do anything else you need to do. Maybe for a few days but not day after day.

On the old XP desktop, I still run Opera 12 browser. I have toolbar buttons to quickly toggle javascript, plug-ins, and cookies on/off. As a rule, these are always off. Without those on, you don't get pop-ups or auto-play. On frequently-visited sites, I can set up preferences to have some or all of that stuff on regardless. Old Opera v12 has become unusable on some sites, though. Like XP and the box it's in, O12 is increasingly an anachronism.
Although I have tried various post-v12 Chrome-ized Opera browsers on my and milady's tablets and cells, I have not found a similarly easy way to toggle the activities or set individual site preferences, and I run with all the vulnerabilities open. So, yeah, hate the auto-run videos. Especially sidebar ads that shout at me.

Why do that. I'm running version 37 Firefox and with a couple strategic addons, I do exactly what you do but with the added deal of getting the better security and not getting dumped by a site cause of the age of the browser.
Some sites are refusing to go to the trouble of making sure everything works for every browser. Especially I.E.
since I'm running XP, I can't get the newer I.E. so I have to use Firefox (which is more up to date and been that way longer.)

The little two-horse town near me has managed to squander federal money (from gas taxes) and city money from property taxes on buses. I got a copy of the routs, you have to go downtown to ride around downtown.
So they wasted a shit-ton of money so somebody's relatives could drive buses. Any time I have seen those buses there is nobody in them or only one person.

I think a third party that talks common sense and doesn't piss too many people off really has a shot at drawing - while not a majority - a large enough minority to be a legitimate challenge in or even win a three-way race.
I also think that within 2-3 election cycles, the Republicans as the Democrat Party (Part 2) would be revealed as the complete sham they've become and fade into history.

When I first made it to CA in the bay area I used buses a lot. But shortly after they went on strike. I than walked a lot. It was about 5 miles from Alameda where I was at the bar near Jack London Square where I used to hang out. I wore out a pair of boots walking that. The worst part was walking through the Oakland-Alameda tunnel.
I bought a motor cycle as soon as I saved some money and never rode another bus.

A law that retroactively assigns a sunset clause to every law and created regulation would be brilliant. If it's worth keeping, Congress will sign off on it.
Another law should be the No Omnibus law. IE, only the item specified in the law is to be voted on.

I get deeply invested in my set-up. I am used to my browser's keystrokes, custom toolbars and buttons, RSS handling, all the ways it works. I used to be young and agile-minded. "New this or that? Let's try it!" Now I just want the software to work so I can work. I hate upgrading almost as much as moving.
Bigger fish bought up and killed off my HTML writing program (back before I moved to CMS), and my paint program (which I still use), and my business utilities (you'd laugh). I hit the wall on video editing
I think the only program that has kept right on chugging through all the changes is Forte Agent for email and newsgroups. But then, what that program handles hasn't really changed in decades.

At ground level, there's no love between the black and hispanic blocs. It's a huge problem in Los Angeles, where the black and hispanic gangs are in open warfare, and there's a lot of resentment in the non-criminal community as well. It goes as far as some no-shit ethnic cleansing in the neighborhoods, at least of the non-violent variety.
Admittedly, LA is a fucking dump, and would be so even if you magically solved the ethnic problem.Now if we're talking pure political alliances, that's another thing entirely.

So are local city officials like de Blasio and the Mayor here in Denver.
I know that our governor's and Dem politician's brazen gun grab has already turned a lot of CO sheriff's against them, but with all the Ferguson protests our city cops are now seeing who these guys side with (hint: not the cops).
Which reminds me - any updates on the whole rift between de Blasio and the cops? Have things dies down or is it just not getting coverage. Because even though Holder has been unable to find anyone to nail for the Michale Brown killing, he and Obama (and Sharpton) did manage to get two NYC cops killed.

Here's just one example: After Hillary was elected to the Senate she bought herself a huge mansion in DC (spent around $7 million for IIRC). This was after the funny business loan she an Bill had taken from the now VA governor (forget his name) to buy the Chappaqua home. However, she could now afford her DC house because she had gotten that huge (record) advance for her biography.
And what did Hillary do after purchasing that mansion? She registered for furnishings - furniture, rugs, everything she needed - and asked her friends and supporters to furnish her new home. Oh, and please do so before I'm sworn in to the Senate so that she won't have to report these gifts.

one of my brothers was issued a ticket book 5 years ago...there are 20 tickets in the book.....it took him 4 yrs to go through the book....in his 26 yr career he's written less than 100 tickets......when i did ride a longs as a teenager with a family friend....the only tickets he would write were for expired tags... on parked cars....when ever he pulled anyone over, it was a warning.....

The mileage heavily depends on where you are. Some small towns use police and code enforcement like an alternative tax collection arm, most are just guys that are doing a generally thankless job and trying to keep the wheels of civilization turning.

It's not "the press" though in the relevant Venn diagram, there's a whole lot of overlap. It's Progressives. Because nobility keeps things neat. Progressives *need* a class based society. If "all men are created equal and endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights" then most of their crap doesn't sell.
For a long time, class based on wealth worked. But then nasty stories about people who grew up poor became rich kept getting out, and undermined that argument.
Then, for a long time, class based on race worked. But (despite the JEF's best efforts) most of our society is now fairly heterogeneous- which undermines that argument.
(Neither has completely gone away, of course, but even LIVs recognize that, for the most part, institutional racism is a thing of the past, and (again: for the most part) the biggest thing holding down "the poor" is *not* some massive conspiracy among the rich).
So... nobility. They want class based on birth again.
Because as long as we're a class-based society, you can always gin up hatred and fear between any two or more classes.
