TMZ Dares to Ask Hillary a Question About EmailGate; Politico Brands This Uncouth Act of Journalism "Stalking"

You can see this case of Aggravated Stalking at Hot Air.

Rothman was right; Politico has now changed the headline to TMZ asks Hillary a Question, though the url continues to include, naturally, tmz-hillary-clinton-stalking.

But Politico's not giving up yet; one of their lead stories is Hillary Clinton email flap creates awkward GOP silence, with, yes!, a big picture of Scott Walker, because you know that Hillary's lawbreaking is really the Shame of the Conservatives.

If it seems like the GOP presidential field has been unusually silent this week as scrutiny mounts over Hillary Clinton’s email practices, there's a logical explanation: Many of them are tormented by their own email demons.

At least a half-dozen 2016 Republican prospects have felt the sting of sustained negative press coverage over their email practices, with the common denominator being an attempt to sidestep public scrutiny attached to official government accounts. While the scope and scale of the controversies range widely -- and they're not comparable to the Clinton circumstances -- their histories with electronic communications have left them with their own unique vulnerabilities on the issue.

In part, it’s a reflection of the governor-heavy nature of the field of Republican 2016 prospects: Gubernatorial offices tend to be subject to rigorous open records requirements, making email standards and practices a politically combustible part of their portfolio. Senators, by contrast, don't face similarly demanding transparency standards.

...

In Wisconsin, as a result of a three-year probe of Gov. Scott Walker's tenure as Milwaukee County executive -- an investigation that ended in 2013 -- prosecutors asserted that some of Walker’s aides set up a separate, private Internet network. Through that, staffers could send emails, via Gmail and Yahoo accounts, about both political and official business, and the use of private accounts took place even beyond that server. While Walker never faced charges, the private emails and the mixing of county and political work proved central to charges levied against two former staffers. Both pleaded guilty, though one is appealing.

The investigation into Walker's tenure as a county executive, which was prior to 2008.

So that's where Politico is -- asking Hillary about this is "stalking;" the real journalism concerns ages-old allegations about Scott Walker's aids from when he was a county executive.

3 I'm old enough to remember when the leftists were so certain that there was evidence of law-breaking in Palin's emails that they went so far as to break the law to hack into her email account to find out.

That is--her having a private email account while governor was 100% PROOF that she was hiding law-breaking.

Although, in Politicos defense, pretty much everything TMZ does is "stalking."

I've often wondered why the MSM can't cover politicians and govt bureaucrats like TMZ covers celebrities?

I mean no one in Hollywood can so much as get in a car accident without TMZ somehow having footage of the accident, before and after interviews with everyone involved, and 3 estimates to repair the damage of the car. All within 2 hours of it happening.

1. If (R), "politician broke the law."
2. If (D), "Repubs claim (D) broke the law."
3. If (D) caught red-handed - immediately search for "R's do it too" stories.
4. If (R) caught red-handed, ignore the fact that 10 D's caught doing the same thing. Instead, question all other R's about their opinion on the scandal.

And the ever popular
"Republican convicted of crime, confirming major issues for entire R party" vs "Congressman Smith convicted of crime, no larger meaning" and D party affiliation mentioned in paragraph 20 or not at all.

The same journalists who claim to fear losing access to Hillary or Obama never seem to have that fear when it comes to the other party.

Jesus H Christ.

Was not going in that direction with it at all. Yuck.

While it is a good point, my larger point was that politicians in the US in 2015 can do all kinds of shady shit and never get called on it, while some minor b-list celebrity that no one cares about can't even drive to CVS without TMZ getting pictures of him/her and knowing his/her entire life story.

They can get 911 tapes, police reports, video evidence, etc. without a problem, yet our MSM says "hey, man, you know, we tried... but uh... no way to get any info on any of these people and their shady shit. they just wont turn it over to us. And we asked nicely!" (unless the shady person is an R... but even then, they are nowhere near as thorough and relentless as the TMZs of the world)

Imagine a tabloid following around politicians with paparazzi and the whole get up.

I think it'd be a big seller.

We think the scandals in Hollywood are big? What do you want to bet they're 10 times "juicier" in "Hollywood for the Ugly" (Washington DC).

For example, why are there no pictures of the Senator Sandwich when Kennedy and Dodd sexually assaulted a waitress while drunk?

I promise you that if a Kardashian and a Teen Mom had done that in LA, there would have been video, audio, still shots from 3 angles, and it would have been on the front of every checkout aisle tabloid in the country.

Honestly, I think it comes down to:

A]Scandal control - after 8 years in the WH she needed an iron-clad way to skirt subpoenas/FOIA, and

B] Hillary is sort of her own roving organization, Hillary Co. - she's had a fairly large inner circle of aides and tight friends with whwom she consults (Blumenthal, etc.) who have been with her since she was FLOTUS, then Senate, then at State, so she needed an email system support Hillary Co. since *that* is the constant, not her current job.

We all know why Hillary didn't want her emails on .gov servers.

Because she knew was going to run for president, knew the emails would be FOIA'ed or subpoenaed at some point, and didn't want to deal with the headache.

And she probably felt vindicated by the whole Lerner incident. "See the shit she has to go through? She should have just used clintonemail.com, where we're guaranteed to have bi-weekly server failures, and where we never back anything up"

Lerner was too much of a nobody to know that all of the smart people take steps to never write down anything that could bite them in the ass later.

Well, to us that's how he looks.

But you know the Germans still looked down on the French collaborators and couldn't believe they had to work with those cheese eating surrender monkeys.

They would have much rather ended the whole charade and sent the French packing and run the country like true Germans would.

That's how the left feels about their GOP(e) types.

179 In Wisconsin, as a result of a three-year probe of Gov. Scott Walker's tenure as Milwaukee County executive -- an investigation that ended in 2013 -

I had to slap both hands over my mouth to keep from screaming out loud.

The investigation did not end in 2013. The investigation was shut down about as hard as humanly possible in 2013 by a federal judge due to ridiculously egregious abuses of the "John Doe" process.

That is a lie. A vicious, vicious, vicious lie that Politico seems intent on peddling. (Ahem. I shriek about this in BC and I's podcast)

191 So that's where Politico is -- asking Hillary about this is "stalking;" the real journalism concerns ages-old allegations about Scott Walker's aids from when he was a county executive.

Remind me again when Hillary was a county executive. Oh, that's right, she wasn't. She was the governor's WIFE.* Period. Then the President's WIFE.* Period. She launched her political career as a Senator, a position she won as a result of being a former President's WIFE.* She was appointed SoS as a result of being a Presidential candidate, which in turn was a result of being a former President's WIFE.*

*To be clear, when I say "wife" I mean in the strict legal documentation sense, not in the usual cultural/ biological sense, in which sense "wife" would be a sham.

There were two John Doe investigations. The first one was regarding walker's tenure as Milwaukee County executive, the one he requested.
The second, John Doe II was opened to go after conservative groups that supported Walker during the recall, to shut them up and shut them down. That is the investigation both the state and federal courts ended as an abuse of process (or something like that).

I think it's media-driven.

When a D is in a scandal, the MEDIA initially circles the wagons and brings on talking heads to downplay it. They don't ask other D politicians to defend the person.

When an R is in a scandal (even a fake one), the media turns it in to a "meta" story and ad-libs it in to a narrative, then asks every other R to denounce or defend the guy. That puts the other politicians on the spot, and well, fuck that guy.

It's just that the media says to R's "denounce or defend this guy who we just caught in a minor scandal." and the R's say "uh, denounce." and then thats the narrative.

The media never asks the D's to defend or denounce. They just bring on talking heads to talk about how its no big deal, everyone does it, and besides, the R's are the real hypocrites anyways.

Come look over here at these nasty nasty Republicans." Of course the people with 'R' in front of their name have nothing to do with the story at all.

Hillary ran a PRIVATE email service to conduct GOVERNMENT business. This is wrong in and of it self. Let me say WRONG again. Her likely motive was concealment. So the reasonable question might be: "Madame Secretary, why would you act in such a way so as to even give the slightest appearance of needing to conceal your actions? Why would you even risk that?" Unless, of course, she had something to conceal.

And more, dig into who hosted and ran the components of her service. I haven't yet take the time to drill into how she registered the domain name or more ... Except I do see that she registered way back in June of 2002.

Whatever she's been doing ... she's been doing it for a while. Lots of people have known about this and nothing has been reported. And there's another interesting set of questions.

332 Also, on a related note, any idea when Whataburger is going to start moving north and east?

No. As I understand it, they're not actually that profitable- enough to stay open, but not enough for major expansion.

So it will probably be a long time.

333 One man (civilian) put in an FOIA request and got all of Lerner's
emails. And all those congressman sitting on the oversight committee
(and I'm looking at you, Issa) couldn't get them. I think this pissed me
off more than anything about the IRS investigation.
=======
Because Issa's investigation is NOT supposed to find anything.

Another venue showing the GOP's favorite play: Failure Theater.

Because--and I keep fucking saying this--the trail of Lerner slime slithers in and out of office of John Boehner and/or several other leading Republicans.

Why the fuck do you think the GOP switched from "I'm a Tea Party Conservative!" to "You Tea Party folks need to sit down and shut up--you don't know what you are doing but we do" so fast?

There is only one reason.

344 I went to Hillary campaign rallies in 2008.

She absolutely thought she had it wrapped up then. It was Her Time.

The rise of BHO absolutely stunned her. Eight years, wasted, a massive setback.

But she recovered, and since November 8, 2008 has been planning her 2016 comeback and victory.

The notion that this campaign will itself be strangled in the crib before she even is out of the starting gate would be too much to bear for her. The Rage Explosion emanating from her psyche would create shock waves flattening every structure within a150-mile radius of DC.

She has nothing left in her life except To Be President. It's hers. Waiting for her. It is fate. it cannot be thwarted.

349 Look, everyone who thinks something is going to come of the Hillary email thing...

When Hillary was SOS, and especially post-benghazi, she was presumably in contact with politicians on "both sides of the aisle," no?

What do you want to bet that if someone dove in to those emails, we'd find she regularly emailed back and forth from her non-.gov email address with R Senators (like her buddy McCain) and others.

Yet no one ever thought it was worth mentioning.

And weren't her emails subpoenaed by the house at some point? No one noticed that Hillary didn't have any .gov emails?

Yeah, they all knew she was doing it. They all probably do it to. This will go nowhere, because no one in DC wants the people looking too closely at private email accounts associated with govt employees and politicians.

My big thing with Manning is the neck injury and surgery. It's not just a knee or quad or elbow or other serious injury. That kind of injury with that kind of surgery ups the risks substantially. He's also not three years into his career.

I am being a bit disingenuous, I do comprehend why he wouldn't want to stop. It's just so risky and he's already rolled the dice many times. He's not my favorite person but I do not want to see him make one more roll and it come up snake eyes.

360 Snark aside, I'm really, really curious about what is going through the
minds of the folks at Politico. Do they consciously think, "I must dig
for dirt on Walker no matter how ridiculous and cover for my Dems!" Or
is it Pavlovian and they are literally unaware of what they are doing
(sleepwalking through life)?

======
It's the second.

They think they are being fair. They really, seriously believe that.

All attacks on Democrats are unfair because the Democrats are always right. And no, it never, ever enters their minds that the Dems could be wrong.

So, to dig for dirt on Republicans--no matter how stupid--is only fair as it (barely) balances the scales, to them.

Remember: These are the same people think the media is too conservative.

Pro athletes want to play as long as they can because it is all they know.

Jim Brown was able to retire early because he wanted to do acting, and he did.

Most pro athletes want to keep playing because their whole life has revolved around their sport and training. Hockey players are used to late night dinners, playing golf in the summer, and skating from mid-September to late May early June. They are used to the travel to and from games with their teammates, and spending 4-5 hours a day every day during the season in the locker room with their teammates. I didn't play, but I worked for a hockey team for several years and I got used to living the "hockey lifestyle".

Peyton wants to keep playing because he loves getting in that huddle and having 10 pairs of eyes all looking to him to lead them. He loves hanging out with the guys on the practice field and locker room cutting up with his team mates. And, it makes him feel young to hang out and joke with the rookies and first year players.
