Really, people need to stop complaining so much. My home country is actually quite misogynistic but women still manage to get ahead and don't spend their time whining about how unfair life is. (I'm talking about the south where we're not completely oppressed.)
My mom became a top director (reporting to the equivalent of the CEO) in one of the govt outfits at the age of 34, in very sexist Nigeria. She worked extremely (too?) hard and made her mark there. I never heard her complain about being slighted as a women, although, come to think of it, that must have been the case, especially at her relatively young age at the time.
People need to stop whining so much. I can't think of a better place for women than America.

Before I drove off, I wandered over to the little picnic park they'd made, and there...was a little metal plaque of Russell's "Roping A Grizzly," with his famous monogram burned into timber, and a historical marker. The actual event happened a couple of hundred yards from where I was standing, in 1903, and Russell was there.
It had the names of the cowboys who did it. That pretty much made a Russell fan out of me. I guess you could say he wasn't very imaginative, since he only painted stuff that actually happened. Like, you know, lassoing a grizzly bear.

Apparently Little Miss Pinky went out there yesterday and harfed about how State was assured by the Clintons that the email was only used for non-classified stuff (which begs a HUGE question) and when asked how State knew none went out anyway she all breezily said that State has no procedures in place to check if classified stuff is sent out when only non-classified stuff should be going out.

I am not surprised that this is the issue that finally stuck to old IronWrinkledFace. Why, you ask? All the other issues required background and sometimes full understanding of rather esoteric issues, but, email, everybody gets that. Everybody in Corporate America has had to get familiar with their employer's email policy. Everybody knows that you will get fired over using personal email rather than corporate because of records retention.

Tune on over to NPR Marketplace, where they had a piece about the use-of-private-email issue. Since Marketplace is a business-oriented program, they focused on business executives using their private email rather than the company's official system.
Something that was repeated several times were words to the effect that "well, when people use private email, it certainly looks hinky, but it isn't illegal per se".
Sure. In a _business_.
But left unvoiced was that the State Department isn't a business and it ***IS*** illegal for a federal official at State to do so. There ***ARE*** binding recordkeeping requirements.
Hey, that narrative isn't going to shape itself! You have to admire how rapidly the NPR types got out in front of the scandal with their repeated invocations of "private email, not illegal", saying so over and over in a manner that's technically correct in one unrelated context but not at all correct in the actual context of the Clinton conduct.

The best Hillary defense I've heard is that it's not a violation of the law, but a violation of a rule. There was a rule change in 2009 requiring departments to ensure that they had control of any permitted non-official e-mail.
So a rule is not a law, unless they want it to be.
I am not trying to trigger a Delegation Doctrine rant. Just saying that I listened to the last Ranty Cast and can put two and two together.

It actually depends on the information. Old stuff, key word or not, is usually (eventually) declassified and the historians love it. Gives them a little 'color' to their otherwise drab stories. The feds are notorious about classifying everything, especially screwups. Petraeus would know what information was sensitive and what was obsolete.
We will never know (because everything is classified), but one thing you can be certain of is Obama and his DOJ/FBI can't be trusted.

Nope, it can be and usually is very illegal. Before I retired, I worked for a giant health insurance company and we were carefully trained that email was a corporate record/asset that might be subpoenaed and use of private email, except in a very special case was a firing offense and might result in being sued by the company. We were also told that if we had to use private email, say, while on vacation, we were required to copy our own corporate email address so that a copy of the correspondence would hit the corporate servers.

Can't recall where I read it, but there was an article written by a former high level federal official, after news broke that EPA and IRS had been failing to archive official e-mail.
He related that when he first took his federal posting, he was sternly lectured to the effect that all document based official communications in which he might engage, to include e-mail, were legally required by the Federal Records Act to be copied and preserved for archival storage. And he was threatened that he could get in trouble if he skirted that regulation.
So it's not as though this is anything new. The feds at all levels are perfectly aware of these laws. They're just blatantly breaking them.

I don't know. Me personally, I have no dog in the hunt when it comes to sports teams and athletes. I figure they all have more than their share of opportunities to get whatever they want, sexually.
So when a rape charge arrives, it's the clash of two disparate entities of leftist culture: the feminazi "all sex is rape" nonsense, and the hedonistic "let's put our wee wees wherever we want" attitude.
Part of the latter is young girls going off to college and being immersed in this culture which tells them "don't be a prude, spread your legs," while on the other hand telling them "male privilege made you do it."
I like the idea of these two warped points of view clashing. More, please.

It adds up, especially more recent scandals. The mistake many conservatives made was thinking stuff like WhiteWater or cattle futures were going to make a difference, those scandals were old news from the early 90's. A recent scandal like this can really hobble her, it also outs blood in the water for other Democrats to challenge her.
Also, the Clintons got away with most things because the economy was roaring in the background. When Clinton left office, his job approval numbers were high but his personal likability rating were actually in the toilet.
Hillary is not going to have an economy to point to to aid her with all of these scandals.

My father remembers real circus parades, with the brass band on its own custom wagon, always the biggest parade in the city, in a time when people loved parades. I'm on a couple of college sports boards, and it is noticeable how the current and just graduated generation absolutely believes these girls were raped, they were afraid to come forward because of retribution and that the player should have been kicked off the team, charged and jailed even though the women refused to go to either the local police or campus police.
My understanding is that the women said nothing for two years, then were attending some kind of group retreat when they stood up during a discussion session and claimed the rape happened and named the player. They still refused to go to any legal entity. Instead, someone attending the retreat went to an official at Duke and reported their claims.
They refused to cooperate with anyone.
Coach K ended up removing the player for alternate issues he was having with team rules. He is still on scholarship and is finishing his degree.
No matter, today's brainwashed generation has been so conditioned to believe the seriousness of the charge rather than the evidence. It's frightening to think that these people could serve on juries, etc.

Her latest lame attempt is instructing the State Department to "release" her emails to the Select Committee. She intends to argue that ALL of her pertinent emails will have been captured on State.Gov addresses because she was in conversation with underlings at State.
Only problem with that is that we already know many of her most senior people were using private accounts too, many at the ClintonEmail domain. So it's complete bullshit, and everyone already knows it. She is playing for time, as they always do.

However *part* of the point is that many LIVs only get their "news" from TMZ and NYT headlines. So if they (or the major news nets) don't cover something, LIVs don't believe it happened.
But, yes, rather than whining "Why won't you do this?" (or even asking it snarkily), they should be sending out reporters with cameras and microphones asking every Democrat they can all sorts of embarrassing questions.

I just have a hard time getting past the undeniable fact that HRC is a lousy politician. The exact opposite of Bill. The idea of HRC is so much better than the actual HRC. She may well prove to be the inevitable force people think she is, but that would come as a huge surprise to me. She may run by default since the Obama presidency has basically cleaned out whatever talent-pool the Dems could have hoped for. I think she'll have a very difficult time connecting with a public that has abandoned the Democrat party - if not Obama and/or his policies. Maybe Bill has one final run in him, and like an old ball-player who is able to rally for one final series, he carries her carcass to the finish line.
I just do not see it. I think HRC and Bill will understand they have more power, influence, ability to make money by not having her run than by having her run.
Its going to be fun to watch.

It's not fair, but a blogger with an obvious axe to grind is not going to have the same effect as a major news outlet. The Lefty blogs however have the advantage that they can hand stuff to the MSM and they will run it and investigate. Our side doesn't have that relationship.
And these sites DO have reporters that ask tough questions of politicians, but most simply deny them access. Why would Hillary or her office answer a question from a BreitBart reporter? They can't say "F--- off" as easily to the New York Times.

Brietbart CAN get Fox News to run things. If Fox runs things enough, the MFM will cover them, simply because Fox is starting to control a decent share of the news.
So it's not impossible to do.
And the calls of "Hey, ABC, CBS, and NBC- why aren't you doing your fucking jobs?" carry more weight when you can show that you *are* doing their jobs.

That actually does happen, maybe not as much as we'd like, but there's absolutely conservative reporters from outlets like the Daily Caller and Breitbart that engage in this.
I think the Daily Caller has a reporter that attends all the White House press conferences?
Obviously hey don't have the budget the Billion dollar media companies do, but I don't think the media problem is because our side is lazy with respect to reporting.

That Klonsky name sounded familiar, so I poked around on Al Gore's internet and discovered that Fred Klonsky is the commie brother of Mike Klonsky - also a commie and a very close personal friend of Bill Ayers going back to the '60's and the Weatherman & SDS days.

It's pretty tough to argue that elephants should continue to perform in circuses. It's not just liberal tree huggers that want them out of circuses, it's knowing what we know regarding their intelligence, etc. and their habitat needs, etc that many others, myself included support not having them in shows.. It is in such huge conflict with the life they lead in a circus.
So many of the circus elephants end up needing to be euthanized because they go insane being in such severe captivity. A circus cannot begin to provide the kind of environment and life that an elephant needs to thrive.
For an animal that is becoming more endangered due to poaching, I think Ringling Bros. is doing a very difficult for themselves, yet good for elephant thing. IF they do not have elephants in their shows, the smaller circuses, who do not begin to take care of the elephants the way Ringling does, will be forced to do so also. It will reduce the demand for poaching baby elephants away from their herd, etc.

I took my kids to see a show a couple years ago. There were about half a dozen protesters a at the entrance with their signs and flyers Nobody was paying any attention and some were openly hostile to them, like me. They did about 10 shows in an arena made for around 8,000 that seemed to be mostly full. Ringling Brothers has made a big mistake. Many of those people will not return, especially after they cancel other show animals. (like me)
Companies need to just start telling the SJW to go f*** themselves like the Gamergate people. Caving in seems easy but it never satisfies the SJW's. AFter the first surrender they never stop until they have destroyed their target.

Seriously, I'm not saying that this would be fixed overnight. I'm not. I don't even know that it will ever be completely "fixed." Conservative media may, indeed, have limited power. But this IS done is my point, Breitbart, Daily Caller, National Review, Weekly Standard etc has paid journalists on staff, they're not just aggregators that clip website links. You can also donate to organizations like Project Veritas that reporter James O'Keefe started.
I don't think it's laziness, it's a matter of budgets. Think of all the media outlets, the major networks, newspapers, local tv stations etc. The amount of reporters working on stories is staggering. If the Washington Post decided they wanted Obama's academic records they would have gotten them, no question. If National Review wants them?
I'm all for more conservative journalists, but I think the only way to really do it would be really rich donors like the Koch Bros would have to just donate the money and write it off as a form of political spending.
I really think just gobbling up something like NBC news would be a smarter play for the Koch Bros than spending hundreds of millions on political ads every election cycle.

"Why won't Senator So-and-so answer our questions?" is actually as news worthy as just about anything else they do.
"Watch Representative So-and-so run from our camera when we ask about X" is also good click-bait.
You don't have access? Fine, make your lack of access a story.
"Why are Democrats afraid to answer our questions?" AND THEN ADVERTISE. Use Twitter. Make them at least blurbs and links on front pages. You may have to throw a lot against the wall, but *some* will start to stick.

The scandals around all 4 of those Dems grew legs because their fellow Dems could use the scandals to their own advantage. Getting rid of Weiner cleared a spot for Deblasio, Edwards gone meant one less obstacle for Obama, etc

I think these people do work day and night and largely live like paupers that work probably for free. I would guess Matt Drudge is probably the only guy that's really found a profitable business model with a conservative media brand. Most of the others are basically supported by wealthy conservative donors, I think Daily Caller was started by Foster Friess with a large donation.
To get this off the ground, it's going to take donors. Personally, I'd rather give money to these types of operations than say a traditional campaign

Makes it harder to care as much when they become extinct in the wild - they will be as real to people as unicorns.
Treat them well in captivity, and (I think they do this) stick with rehoming orphaned / rescue animals, and keep them visible to people.
I love SeaWorld, and I've seen how they've changed the orca show over the years - it's very easy on the orcas now. they don't really have to perform, just show up. That's ok. (altho I admit to liking the performances by the whales rather than humans and video spiels a lot better)

When I say "they use rescue animals" above that's the PR you get from Ringling. and I hope it's true. Most circus shows claim they use rehomed/rescued animals for performances.
but it's easier for them NOT to do that. so we need to keep up pressure on the Ringlings and the Sea Worlds, unfortunately.
but they are the best actors in the space. Shows, circuses, zoos all around the world, and in backwaters here in the US, act unethically in regards to their animal performers.
So I completely agree with you - but at the same time, we're the dominant speciies, and we need to TRY to keep living animals of other species as real as possible to our LIV-type fellows.
If the average person can NEVER see an elephant in person . . . they will simply care less about their welfare. It's a tough nut, ethically, for sure.
We have a wolf preserve near me and while I love going there it's not the "best practices" for wolf enclosures - but you can see the wolves well. That's not very good for the wolves, if that makes any sense? Day by day it's maybe stressful for them. But, they are rescued animals, and the preserve teaches people a lot about wolves, and has the best of intentions (just not enough space). They have to balance the need to "share" the wolves directly with people with the need for the wolves themselves to have privacy.
Ugh this is not easy! But it's important to try to not go too far in one direction and alienate most humans from more exotic species. I'm a big fan of biodiversity and with the path we're on we're losing that fast.

My biggest complaint with the "right wing" media is that no one is really making an attempt to do original reporting.
Instead of setting up shop as a truly "alternative media," they all re-report on MSM stories (so MSM still sets the narrative) but with a "conservative"ish spin.
Which I guess has it's place, but it's still heavily reliant on the same dinosaur media infrastructure they supposedly want to destroy.

Having seen the whales at Sea World frequently, and having exactly as much professional knowledge about them as the filmmakers of Blackfish, I am just as qualified as them to say that their interactions, in the shows and in the observation tank, do not indicate animals that are in any way discontented or mistreated.
Sea World San Diego just birthed a baby orca. It's magic to watch the baby interact with the adults.

Right. I think the "ring wing media" saw the success of Drudge and Rush and said, "hey there's a good business model!"
But uh, it's really not that scalable. Rush was the first main stream conservative commentator to do what he did. He had a great, original idea. Drudge did too. But now there are 1,000,000 copy cats out there opining on opinions of others, and no one is doing any original reporting.
I wish there was a way I could personally get involved and do something, but I have a feeling it will take many attempts and many many millions of dollars to ever be able to put something that actually competes with the MSM together.

Yes, and it when something is run as a business the motive is profit, not trying to win elections for conservatives. That's why an endeavor like that as to be non-profit and why it's difficult. You basically have to find a philanthropist thats willing to watch a lot of his money get flushed down the toilet on an investment that's very hard to quantify.
Something like a publicly traded company with investors is not going to allow expenditures that do nothing for the bottom line.

Nothing was adjudicated. Also, even if he'd been acquitted in criminal court, that doesn't necessarily have an estoppel effect on a civil action, since the level of proof necessary to establish liability is much lower than that required to obtain a criminal conviction.

As a non-lawyer who has worked in law offices and is now employed by the insurance industry. No way this gets tossed on Summary Judgement. No way.
The suit will be filed, discovery will take place. Then they will go to mediation and the insurance company will pay the Browns to make this go away. Since the court (IMHO) will not toss it, the insurer will not want to risk a jury trial with 12 people.

That's actually quite true.
Pay close attention to any claims (usually on TV) that say "Elephants are endangered in this specific prescribed region." They don't mention that in the next region over, they are overpopulating.
I think, for example, that Botswana is now completely overrun with elephants, and they don't know what to do with them all.
That said, I am an old-school environmentalist and animal-lover, and I too think that elephants are too intelligent and emotional to be used for entertainment purposes in circuses. Seems too cruel. Zoo or animal parks are maybe marginally borderline acceptable, if they're good quality, and if the benefit is that Westerners see and appreciate the elephants in person, and are thus more likely to support their survival in the wild.
And poachers and ivory hunters should be shot on sight, and their bodies left in the bush for the hyenas and vultures.

OJ did not claim self defense. He claimed it flat wasn't him.

I know the standards are different. The problem is that a civil suit is still punishment, even though he was proven to have acted in self-defense.
Like I said, I'm pretty sure in TX a self-defense finding makes you immune from civil liability as well (and we have loser pays, to boot).

I am not an attorney, but I do dabble in the law.
And yes, that's about what I expect to happen. Not only does the city not want it going to trial and inviting the media back and the rioters back and all of that, but it's easier, cheaper, and cleaner for everyone to pay out and not admit guilt in anything.
So that would be my guess as to what happens. Browns family gets a few million, has to sign some shut the fuck up papers, and everyone moves on.

But even just having to deal with the lawsuit is a huge civil penalty- they can suck huge amounts of money from the city (which means the tax-payers) just by filing the lawsuit.

But he didn't get what you're talking about here. He didn't get a decision on the merits that would, depending on the state, grant him civil immunity. What he got was a no bill. No charges were filed.
A grand jury doesn't decide guilt or innocence, just whether or not charges should be filed.

Nobody's confused. She ran the server, she has complete control. Nobody believes she forwarded all the important stuff to State, or that all her interesting communications went to other State officials on their official emails.

Nothing was proven since there was no trial. And even then, being found not guilty is not the same as proving you didn't do it.

Exactly. In most jurisdictions that I'm aware of, self-defense is an affirmative defense. It won't get the civil suit dismissed outright, but come SJ time, it could. Discovery and all of the fun and expense that go with it is going to happen. Yay legal fees!

So there should be a huge difference between "we don't think there's enough evidence to convict," and "we have ample evidence that Officer Wilson acted in self defense."

That's not how any of this works man. There are lots of reasons why a Grand Jury might no bill. They don't adjudicate facts. Period. They don't give reasons why they make the decisions they do. They aren't a "jury" as we typically view it.

Grand Juries don't really make that determination. They just determine if there is enough evidence (and I think their standard is probable cause) to go forward with charges against the suspect.
They decided there wasn't, thus no charges were officially filed in court against Wilson and the criminal case against him (unless new evidence turns up or something) goes away.
Civil court is a whole different beast.

What's the point of a statute granting immunity which... doesn't grant immunity? I'm not sure self defense grants immunity from civil liability in MO- which, itself, would be stupid- but in places where it does, why should I be forced to take that to trial to avoid civil judgement- especially when a jury might just decide to ignore the fact I'm supposed to have immunity?

The grant of immunity is based upon a legal determination. If there is no determination, there is no immunity. There was no determination in this case, so, no immunity.
Immunity cannot be ignored by a jury. That simply doesn't happen. Not actual legal immunity. No. Nope.
