In honor of The Dress, here are some optical illusions to amuse you.

This one seems relevant:

43 Part of the hubub over that dress illusion is that computer monitors are just not always accurate.


I worked in printing a while ago, and our graphic artists were always fretting over calibration, both of our monitors and our customer's. That may well be a part of the whole illusion.

47 Back in my old painting days, I had to learn the difference between perceived color and true color. It can take a lot of practice to be able to discern the actual color of a particular spot rather than the way your eye interprets it in scene.

Basically, it has to do with human vision and also with the spectral makeup of different light sources. I have some tinted cubic zirconias that appear pink in sunlight but purple in fluorescent light.
