"Potential Criminal Activity" As IRS Straight-Up Lies to Congress and Refuses to Look for Back-Up Tapes for Lois Lerner Emails

Every IT-savvy commenter and coblogger was saying that all of these emails are periodically backed up to tapes which are always available.

The IRS kept claiming they weren't. They claimed they were lost, or missing, or "recycled" every six months.

People not in the IRS kept saying "Bullshit, the point of the tapes is to keep them forever."

So yes. This new investigator, Mr. Camus, set out to find the tapes which the IRS head swore under oath did not exist and he found them. In two weeks.

(#twoweeks)

This suggests the very real policy that multiple hands at the IRS deliberately lied to Congress in order to end Congress' search for the tapes, and that they further did not do the minimum due diligence required by law in cooperating with a federal subpoena: As Mr. Camus states, when he went to the storage facility in West Virginia, which is "exactly where you'd expect [the tapes] to be," the IT people there found them immediately, and furthermore said that no one had ever before asked for the tapes.

See the second video as well. Camus recovered 424 new tapes only because a document tipped him to the existence of these tapes. But the IRS withheld that document from him, seeking, it appears, to hide the existence of this tapes from the duly-authorized investigators.

The IRS withheld the document from him; apparently he got hold of it by other means.

And here's one of the emails recently recovered from these allegedly lost, destroyed, or recycled tapes:

Update: JohnE and I published at the same minute. So let's merge them. Here is JohnE's post:

Not even a smidgen.

The IRS’s inspector general confirmed Thursday it is conducting a criminal investigation into how Lois G. Lerner’s emails disappeared, saying it took only two weeks for investigators to find hundreds of tapes the agency’s chief had told Congress were irretrievably destroyed.
424 new tapes have recently been recovered, which will undoubtedly have more Lerner emails on them. The inspector general refuses to say this outright (citing the ongoing investigation), but it's fairly clear that the IRS intentionally withheld documents that would have revealed the existence of these tapes. Rep Jordan presses him on this point here.

Meanwhile, check the date on this screencap of a Lois Lerner:

It was only a few weeks before this email that House Ways and Means Chairman David Camp first sent a letter to the IRS questioning the possible targeting of conservatives.

On a positive note, the IRS rewarded Lerner with nearly $130,000 in bonuses. So, y'know, it's not all bad news.

112 That his name is Camus is proof once again that reality is always, always, always stranger than fiction.

This is how you get at this stuff. By going to the lowest person on the totem poll, the one with no protections and the one who cannot afford to lose his/her job and who still believes that lying under oath is a big deal and ask them questions. It's amazing how often you can find out all kinds of fun things.

I can't believe no one from the IRS had taken the step of insuring that the people at the tape storage facility were told to keep their yaps shut.

So what do we think is going to happen? My guess is the file clerks get fired and no knock raided by ATF and Gollum gets a half million dollar bonus.

LOL. Right. That's why one of the first orders of business in implementing the new illegal amnesty programs is to make sure illegal aliens know where and how to apply for all those back "tax credits" they're owed for all the years they illegally held their low-paying jobs in the U.S. and illegally didn't file or pay any income taxes here.

"Tax credits," for those who don't know, are thinly-disguised welfare payments. The recipient must file a tax return showing either a very low income and/or very high number of dependents (real or imagined, doesn't matter because the IRS won't check, especially if you have a hispanic name). Then the recipient gets a nice big check from the U.S. Treasury. No payments of income tax from the recipient required to qualify for the "tax credit" checks.

So apparently all these new low-skill, welfare-dependent illegal aliens are going to be "economic contributors" to the U.S. economy in the same way that food stamp recipients are. For every $2 in welfare benefits we pay them, they stimulate the economy by $1, or something.

Hey, if we could just get all the rest of the world's poor onto our food stamp, EITC, and welfare rolls, our economy would be on fire!

208 The Constitution is meaningless.

It's meaningless unless Americans believe this:

"Whenever the legislators endeavour to take away and destroy the property of the people, or to reduce them to slavery under arbitrary power, they put themselves into a state of war with the people, who are thereupon absolved from any farther obedience, and are left to the common refuge which God hath provided for all men against force and violence.

Whensoever, therefore, the legislative shall transgress this fundamental rule of society ... by this breach of trust they forfeit the power the people had put into their hands for quite contrary ends, and it devolves to the people, who have a right to resume their original liberty, and by the establishment of a new legislative ... provide for their own safety and security.

What I have said here concerning the legislative in gneral holds true also concerning the supreme executor, who having a double trust put in him, both to have a part in the legislative and the supreme execution of the law, acts against both, when he goes about to set up his own arbitrary will as the law of the society"

323 So of course importing millions more poor, unskilled, uneducated foreigners, and putting them on the dole, is a great idea. Just think of the billions and billions of dollars in welfare benefits they'll consume each year!

I think most Americans can't imagine how bad it is in Mexico for the average nobody. We think of places like housing projects, but the people there have vastly more gov't support: food, water, education, tv, clothing, etc.

Sure, they can't pass an 8th grade math competency test, but that's on them.

The average nobody in Mexico literally has the equivalent of a 3rd grade education. Some very basic reading, very basic addition and subtraction. That's it. Section 8 housing is luxury compared to the favela-style houses many live in.

Not only that but they've been conditioned their whole lives to scrape by without notice of the local cops or thugs. Nobody takes the risks of starting a successful business because cops and thugs will stop by regularly to take any profit and then some. So nobody is an entrepreneur or risk taker. That's a sucker's game.

345 Definition

Congress has the authority to hold a person in contempt if the person's conduct or action obstructs the proceedings of Congress or, more usually, an inquiry by a committee of Congress.

Contempt of Congress is defined in statute, 2 U.S.C.A. § 192, enacted in 1938, which states that any person who is summoned before Congress who "willfully makes default, or who, having appeared, refuses to answer any question pertinent to the question under inquiry" shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and subject to a maximum $1,000 fine and 12 month imprisonment.

Before a Congressional witness may be convicted of contempt, it must be established that the matter under investigation is a subject which Congress has constitutional power to legislate.

Generally, the same Constitutional rights against self-incrimination that apply in a judicial setting apply when one is testifying before Congress.

349 I didn't think anything of this when this "scandal" first broke.

I thought that there would naturally be a lot of people forming groups to raise money for "Tea Party" this and that, and that a lot of them would be fraudulent. The IRS could then say, "Of course, we're targeting Tea Party organizations. We're not just looking for tax fraud; we're also looking for bunko, to protect conservatives from getting taken."

They could have gotten away with targeting their political opponents and made it sound like they were doing these groups a favor.

But this is the Obama Administration.

Obama and his people think "Win-Lose," to put it in Coveyan terms. It's not enough for Obama to get his way. Obama's opponents must also lose, and he has to let them know that they lost.

Forget what they stand for. This is how they govern. They must go. All of them.

And criminals. Don't forget the criminals.

One of the many dirty little secrets of the Obama criminal cabal (I will no longer refer to it as an administration) is that their illegal "welcome mat" open-borders immigration policy is attracting thousands and thousands of foreign criminals into the U.S.

When they are caught and prosecuted for their crimes, many of which are violent, these foreign criminals spend some time in U.S. prisons and then they are supposed to be deported. Problem is that their home countries don't want them back -- for all the obvious reasons. So the criminals' native countries refuse to accept them, and U.S. law then requires that the foreign criminals get released back into the U.S., to continue to prey upon Americans.

The law also says that we can reduce/suspend issuing visas to countries that refuse to accept their criminals back, but of course the Obama cabal doesn't approve of that part of the law, so they just ignore it. It's a win/win for foreign countries that want to unload their criminals on us, and a lose/lose for us.

1) EPA gets a 50% headcount cut, loses cabinet rank, placed under Interior. A seriously independent EPA IG investigates what that agency's been doing for the past 20 years.

2) HUD, Labor, and Education all lose cabinet rank, cut 30-60% in headcount and budget, merged into HHS.

3) Energy and Transportation are merged.

4) DHS disbanded and responsibilities returned to DOJ and DOD as appropriate.

5) UN Ambassador placed under State.

6) US Trade Representative placed under Commerce.

That'll do for the first week in office.

445 So fellow Horde -
We have a President who -by his own admission - is expanding his power. We have lawlessness going on in our government -
Benghazi, IRS, ATF, DHS, DOJ and the list goes on.....

Laws are flagrantly being violated by those sworn to uphold them.

We have the democraps who abet every move this administration makes.

The MSM is 100% complicit except when they aren't giving "freebies" to the democraps.

The GOP was put in power by us based on promises to stop all of the above, yet deem themselves powerless even with both the House and Senate. They hold hearings, listen to themselves speak yet there are absolutely no prosecutions. On immigration -the big issue for which we sent them to fix - they sell us out. They take impeachment off the table.

If this nation isn't f*cked by this administration - it will be in the next one. Whats going to happen next? Do you all honestly believe that the next president is going to rein in this executive overreach? Or will they test the waters even further since Barkey got away with it?

We hear states want to hold a Convention of States to address Constitutional Amendments. With all of the special interests out there, do any of us individuals think us "little guys" are going to fare any better?

So where does that leave us?

Third party? Its going to take years and years of growing this party into a substantial force - if it can happen at all.

Thoughts?

479 just got back from appointments.

I really didn't need to read this.
None of it surprises me.
Just more pissed than I was before.

480 122 119 Who does Camus work for? Who appointed him?

We're waiting.

481 The Democrats delay it as long as they can.

Preznint Barky pardons Lois on his lat dat in office.

Nobody spends a day in jail.

They're voting for Cankles anyway.

482 >>>the IRS rewarded Lerner with nearly $130,000 in bonuses.

bonuses are for the private sector. there is no way for the government to handle them ethically. and it's not their money either.

And may he be a plague on the IRS!

484 Can we all agree that prison is too good for the IRS Commissioner and all his minions?

I nominate them as the point of the Kurdish spear. Teach them how to unjam a SAW and send them to Mosul.

485 Hmm, something the other Camus guy said:

"A man without ethics is a wild beast loosed upon this world"

486 Don't worry about it John--I got this.

487 Suffering a little mental whiplash here. Earlier this week, when the American Sniper verdict was reached, Marcus Luttrell was quoted as saying something like, "Well, when the guys in the Texas prison system find out they're holed-up with the killer of an America hero, it won't go well for him."

I don't like this kind of "justice;" where the punishment is not imprisonment, but the street violence meted out during incarceration.

Then I read this story about government employees at high levels persecuting their political enemies, then lying about it through their teeth, knowing that no one will ever breach the onion of liars behind them, covering up their misdeeds.

And now I'm left thinking: There is no bull-dyke hairy, insatiable, or unsanitary enough with which Ms. Lerner can share a cell for the next ten years.

488 Democrats think everyone forgot that Robert Byrd moved much of the government to West Virginia.
