Overnight Open Thread (27 Feb 2015)

I have a feeling a bunch of you morons are potential terrorists based on official government documents.

1. Those that talk about "individual liberties"
2. Those that advocate for states' rights
3. Those that want "to make the world a better place"
4. "The colonists who sought to free themselves from British rule"
5. Those that are interested in "defeating the Communists"

Many more listed at the link.

Toilet Bomb

Heh. This is a no shitter. VA-25s toilet bomb. I would've loved to have flown the Skyraider.

Disaster Kit

Seems a little light. First 24 kit by Taurus.

Urumis

I've never heard of this "sword" before. Two men fight with urumis, extremely dangerous whip-like swords from India.

Check this out. 3 vs 50 fencing contest. A Japanese show pitted three Olympian fencers against 50 opponents of lesser skill.

Ball Heist

Not sure I believe this but it adds a new dimension to the in Russia meme. TV host wakes up castrated after making out with blond stranger. Testicles are now a thing in the organ black market?

Climate Study Funding

99% of all climate study funding goes to alarmists rather than skeptics.

News Coverage

Evidently runaway llamas are more important news stories than a Clinton ethics story.

Cartoon by Michael Ramirez.

13-Year Old Drinking Prodigy

The Onion cracks me up.

Race Car Stolen

Not your everyday car theft story. NASCAR race car stolen from hotel.

Net Neutrality

The net neutrality scam.

The House and Senate just approved a one-week stop gap for DHS funding, which is probably on TFG's desk right now.

So in one more week... Reid will have blocked a House and Senate reconciliation conference for a longer-block of DHS funding and the Dems will get what they want again. That drama might be mild though compared to the ensuing storm if Bibi decided to stop Iran once and for all come this Spring.

I'm. Not. Going. Anywhere.

There is a process in a live-action scenario where you turn the tables...
-Laugh
-Smile
-Shrug
-Ignore until saying...

"Wisdom is a never-ending process. I'll pray for you."
-Walk away.

Continue to simply excuse yourself and just walk away.

As long as you aren't smug, this will make them either livid or curious; possibly both.

When Malcolm X referred to white people as "the white devil" he meant that literally. He didn't mean the bad racist white people who supported slavery and Jim Crow laws. He meant all white people for all time. He meant little white babies speaking their first words.

Malcolm X was a hard-core evil dude. Not just a black nationalist, but a black supremacist.

Backup car was in the team's hauler at the track. This was their primary car that they had been doing some last minute work on back at the shop.

Rules say you need to have a primary and backup car to qualify, IIRC. This was done back when some races didn't have 43 cars entered and some of the bigger teams would just slap a new number on one of their backups and start-n-park it for a quick buck.

182 >>>Well, alrighty then. Just remember, you're NOT a bachelor.

Funny you should say that. I was driving around town today and this car pulled up next to me. There was a lot of movement in the car, so I looked over. It's two young girls, college age. Passenger and Driver are laughing their asses off about something.

Then Passenger turns to me and waves. Driver pulls her arm down and they go back to giggling.

Passenger gets free and waves again. Ok, I'm pretty stupid, but these girls are flirting with me. So, I smile and blow a kiss to her.

They both lost their shit, passenger trying to yell something at me even though we both had our windows up, driver laughing trying to pull her back. Then I left, thinking "daddy's still got it"

192 123 Malcolm X spent most of his adult life preaching that all white people are a race of sub-human demon creatures created in laboratory breeding experiments by an evil black scientist named Yakob 6,000 years ago.

I'm not joking. Google it. That's Nation of Islam teaching. It's cray-cray.

And he has a poster on the wall of every middle school in America - right next to MLK.
Posted by: Costanza Defense at February 27, 2015 10:45 PM (ZPrif)

It's not that he's incorrect. He's usually pretty correct on a given subject. But, it's LiV grade info, for the conservative side of things.

Still, he's valuable. He's largely one of the most inoffensive, least off-putting of the conservative talking-heads, and as such, likely gets a few of the moderates and "raised democrat" types to take their first free hits of the highly addictive concepts of freedom, liberty and independence.

Long as he remains Granny Friendly, let him carry on. After all, they might O.D. on Mark Levin if they don't build up a tolerance, first? ;-)

255 Hannity clearly has lost favor at Fox when he got pushed to 10 pm and Megyn took his 9 pm slot.

Meanwhile, Gutfeld is FNC's rising new star. He's getting his own prime time weekend show. Not unreasonable to view this as Fox wanting to see if he can do a whole hour show by himself and keep viewer interest. I think they are grooming Gutfeld to be a weekday primetime host in the future.

This is the same reason I can't stand Jon Stewart and Letterman. If you turn them on after not seeing their show for five years you will still see Letterman doing his "dumb guy " voice, and Jon Stewart with the same mugging and smirking to the camera mannerisms that he's always done. It's tiresome.

The only "news" network I ever turn on is FBN, and that's been for about the last 7 years.

FBN's problem is that it isn't carried in the lower cable tiers. It was moved from the "digital news and sports" package to the "digital basic" package here last year, but you need a digital tuner to access, and most financial businesses don't want to pay for a tuner when they can get CNBC on the "basic" package.

I also knew that FBN was getting it right when a couple of their hosts were hired by other networks.

The forces of -- well, there's no one good word to describe it, so I'll just make up a bunch -- neo-communism, liberal fascism, moonbattery, Social Justice Lynch Mobbery, coercion-based nightmare-utopianism and straight-up progressivism seem to be on a roll lately with an unrelenting string of successes. (I don't need to list them all for this crowd.)

My question is: Have we reached "peak left-fascism" in which they've overstepped their bounds and the pendulum of public anger will now swing the other way, back toward freedom?

Or: Is this just the beginning of a runaway self-reinforcing cascade of ever-constricting and ever-degrading coercive measures, leading eventually to a "Brave New World"-esque amoral dystopia?

'Cause at the moment it seems like it could go either way.

Serious question:

The forces of -- well, there's no one good word to describe it, so
I'll just make up a bunch -- neo-communism, liberal fascism,
moonbattery, Social Justice Lynch Mobbery, coercion-based
nightmare-utopianism and straight-up progressivism seem to be on a roll
lately with an unrelenting string of successes. (I don't need to list
them all for this crowd.)

My question is: Have we reached "peak left-fascism" in which they've
overstepped their bounds and the pendulum of public anger will now
swing the other way, back toward freedom?

Or: Is this just the beginning of a runaway self-reinforcing cascade
of ever-constricting and ever-degrading coercive measures, leading
eventually to a "Brave New World"-esque amoral dystopia?

'Cause at the moment it seems like it could go either way.

I'd have to dragoon Ace's Soft Form/Hard Form rubric here.

We're near the end of the Soft Form Leftie Fascism here, but miles and miles to go before they actual employ the Hard Form.

Again, the Left's only winning strategy is 'Slowly, slowly.' When they move too fast, the US public wakes up a bit, farts, and rolls over on them.

I'd say as a casual observer of history, aka just another internet asshole, that our country and the great Western experiment in freedom was only possible because of the strength of the individual in terms of character and sense of honor.

I don't think that's a common pairing these days. I don't think we have the same psychological landscape that we once did. So, yes, there is a chance that we're on the precipice of a very, very steep hill without much climbing gear to mitigate a ass-over-tits trip down.

457 Zombie, watch as I tie all the world's ills to abortion...

1/4 of all women have had abortions in the US. 10% of those women may eventually repent of the act, but you still have a huge population who will vote D forever and ever and ever no matter what because to do otherwise would be to admit to themselves that they are murderers.

Why do you think Dems love abortion so much? It's a win/win for them. Reduce teh "undesireable" population, and keep a huge number of women forever shackled to your party.

That alone makes me think that the pendulum will never really swing back to us.

I will go with power drunk but I am not so keen on their odds long run. Once the livs realize how they got screwed by obamacare and once all the scandals come to light and everyone pays more for lousy internets they will pay attention. I think much of the motivation for the communists to overreach so far so quickly is that they realize obamacare is gonna blow up in their faces and it will have repercussions across the board.

481 No, "Mr, Justice Dept" Unless they lose their ability to pray because of Alzheimers or some other cognitive degenerative disease people will always have the ability to pray if they chose to, St Paul prayed (and wrote)in prison) If you're talking about the church, it has always since it's founding been in the existence. The gates of hell will not prevail against it. In fact it grew under persecution and is growing in places that have been very oppressive and where the church is not officially sanctioned such as China. Some people regard this saying about the church and the gates of hell as only referring to the RCC. I think it's broader than that. I think it's about the church as all sincere believers in the Lordship Jesus Christ who wish to be his followers. Fr Walter Ciszek who was imprisoned for years in the notorious Lubyianka prison and then in the gulags talks about freedom here:

True. The fox will always test the patience of the farmer. If our collective farmership is becoming less and less vigilant, it stands to reason the Left will become more audacious.

--- It's always tempting to think that our age is *the* most pivotal, the most consequential. The bulk of history proves otherwise. However, there *have* been decades in the past that charted the course of centuries.

Our current course does seem to lead to a good deal of chaos; the world-wide economy cannot maintain this ridiculous fiction of state-sponsored growth, the mess in the mid-east does not look like it's self-correcting, etc, etc.

So, we're certainly in interesting times.

504 Our government today would arrest the following people:

The Pilgrims.
The Founders.
The entire Continental Army.
Every president from 1-43.
95% of our military (or whatever number identifies as Republican).
Every Moron here.
God Himself.
And they still wouldn't be happy.

Meh. I was born a free man, in the greatest country that ever was. I already won life's lottery.

I will die a free man, hopefully in my bed due to sexual overexertion with a woman or several women half my age.

If it goes the way you suspect, I will still die a free man. And Valhalla will not be wanting for servants.

507 Suicide is a final solution to a temporary problem. If you want to kill yourself because of what Obama and his administration may or may not do, you perhaps need to get off this website NOW and stay off and don't read any news for weeks. Unless it's a situation where you're racked by unending physical pain then you need to call the suicide helpline to get some help NOW:

Suicide is devastating for survivors-friends an family members.

Hmmm, just had a comment rejected as "spam". Honest, it wasn't. That's a new experience.

To summarize, those anticipating a backlash against what's going on in the country are going to have to identify some plausible scenarios to be persuasive. Accounting for collapsed institutions (media simply a mouthpiece for the most destructive, most clueless, extreme, and greedy elements, judicial tyranny, effectively non-existent Congress).

Yeah, yeah, gun control. Well gun control is looking more and more each month like an absolute freakish outlier on the national level (and it's still ravaging things on the state level). In fact it can be argued that gun control illustrates just how fragile and essentially broken the system is - it's just that a temporary and micron-deep favorablejudicial environment has produced a perverse outcome.

Nice:
When Pickens arrived at Shepperton, Kubrick sent Southern over to see he was all right. The writer cheerfully cracked open a bottle of Wild Turkey to set the mood, and asked Pickens if he had settled into his hotel okay, and if everything was fine and dandy. Slim took a big slurp of his drink, wiped the back of his hand against and mouth and replied:

"Wal, it's like this ole friend of mine from Oklahoma says: Jest gimme a pair of loose-fittin' shoes, some tight pussy, and a warm place to shit, an' ah'll be all right."

Oh - and, I'm a great American. Sean Hannity told me so.

Well we knew that w/out Sean's input.

Be well and be warm. -4 here right now.

You loose Geek points for not using the original audio drama (which preceded the book) or the original teleplay which had good actors...

But I gain geek points by knowing that this work is unique because its radio, book, miniseries, and movie.....are all very different, despite using the same name, plot outline, and character names. And as to which one I grabbed.....it was easiest -- Neener.

The radioplay was directly based on the radioplay...

The book mostly was also.

The movie was an abomination (save for Alan Rickman and Sam Rockwell)

588 Holy fuck, you guys see the blaze? Our little rino jeffb's tweet is prominently featured in their story about Jeb at CPAC. And given his twitter handle @aoshqdd, it makes it look like he's speaking for the blog and we're all rino Jeb supporters! Whoever has the hotline to Ace needs to let him know ASAP.

602 Posted by: The Political Hat at February 28, 2015 12:46 AM (0Ew3K) -- I wonder sometimes what is going on. Does Obama have a health issue? Is it knowledge of time running out till 2017? Is he trying to jam everything in in case SCOTUS has a death? It just seems like things are speeding up.

603 I believe today will be a good day, because it is 'the day the LORD hath made'. But tomorrow? Who knows? We are all in GOD'S hands. We are being punished with evil rulers for now, but America can turn back to GOD. But prepare for bad times between now and that time when we are delivered from our oppressors. Off to work now, but first a stop at Southern Maid for boudan biskit and Community coffee.
