Cocksucking POS TFG: 'The bottom line is that if somebody's working for I.C.E., and there's a policy, and they don't follow the policy, there are going to be consequences to it. So I can't speak to a specific problem. What I can talk about is what's true in the government generally. In the U.S. Military when you get an order, you're expected to follow it. It doesn't mean that everybody follows the order. If they don't, they've got a problem. And the same is going to be true with respect to the policies that we're putting forward.'

Dairying was a way of life on steppes and in the Sahara before it desertified at the end of the last ice-age and pushed the nomads into the Nile valley and to the Med. Good evening. This has nothing to do with anything but I got a coffee roaster for Christmas.
It took until about two weeks ago to figure out how to use it. (Actually it took that long before I noticed the tag on the cord advising against using an extension cord. It seems an extension cord reduces the heat just enough to keep the beans from reaching temperature.) Coffee roasting is probably the snootiest thing I do, but it produces the best coffee you could ever have, at about half the cost. Looking forward to getting up. Vacuum Sealers: I've got the Foodsaver, but the "GameSaver" version. It looks a little different than the current one on sale at Amazon -- more drab, no handle. I'm quite happy with it. It replaces a previous normal Foodsaver, which was somewhat less satisfactory because the thinner seal line would sometimes fail. The thicker seal line of the GameSaver seems like a serious improvement, and has not failed so far.
I have to admit, though, that the Weston looks as though it would make up for its higher price by lasting longer. Posted by: Splunge at February 25, 2015 11:40 PM (qyomX) 167

You can buy a sealer for like 70-90 bucks. But if you plan working the unit with several items at a time, it won't last, I gather. For instance, if steak is on sale at Costco and you buy a month's worth, a low-end sealer will need a rest or it will just konk out. Not having a vacuum sealer right now, I fill a kitchen sink with tepid water, then put the cuts o' meat into a good, double-bead Ziploc bag.
Seal the bag, but keep a finger inserted into the bag at the end of the seal. Submerge the bag into the water, except for that bit of seal kept open by your finger. With your free hand, squeeze out all possible air bubbles, then without yet lifting the bag out of the sink, remove your finger and complete the seal. Now you can pull the bag from the sink, and lay it on a drying cloth, along with all it's mates. It's important to dry the bags before freezing....or duh, they all freeze together into solid lump. (how'd I learn that, I wonder?) Looks to be initially, about 90% as effective as the vacuum seal. Loses effectiveness long term though, as fishing through bags in the freezer can cause those now-frozen, less flexible seals to release. But it still beats the hell out of white butcher paper. Gonna buy the vacuum sealer though. I'm wanting to purchase a side of beef and have it butchered. I've had it with the inflated retail beef prices. I can buy whole chickens cheaply enough, and I can shoot hogs all year round. Deer, a bonus, when in season. Jim Sunk New Dawn Galveston, TX Posted by: Jim at February 25, 2015 11:54 PM (RzZOc) 249

Black Privilege: Students Get SAT Bonus Points for Being Black or Hispanic – Asians Are Penalized http://shar.es/1WlIOf via @gatewaypundit
--- Lee’s next slide shows three columns of numbers from a Princeton University study that tried to measure how race and ethnicity affect admissions by using SAT scores as a benchmark. It uses the term “bonus” to describe how many extra SAT points an applicant’s race is worth. She points to the first column. African Americans received a “bonus” of 230 points, Lee says. She points to the second column. “Hispanics received a bonus of 185 points.” The last column draws gasps. Asian Americans, Lee says, are penalized by 50 points — in other words, they had to do that much better to win admission. “Do Asians need higher test scores? Is it harder for Asians to get into college? The answer is yes,” Lee says. “Zenme keyi,” one mother hisses in Chinese. How can this be possible? Taking a break from my ironing. No, not laundry, perish the thought, but a book. Got a Bentley manual from the trunk of the TR6 I bought, and it got damp-damaged. Binding fell apart, and pages were mildewed, warped, and dog-eared. So, I'm spraying each page lightly with water, ironing it flat, punching with a 3-hole punch, and putting it into a loose leaf binder. Got about 200 of 300 leaves done.
And, in looseleaf format, it will be actually easier to use in the shop, because it will stay open at a given page. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at February 26, 2015 12:49 AM (tSNLH) 401

There are lots of humans not adapted to drink milk in adulthood, but there are large sub- populations very well adapted to take advantage of milk as a food source. The computer-controlled engines use less fuel, and wash less lube off the cylinder walls because of running over-rich, so the engines last longer. 300,000 miles before an overhaul is now the norm. Posted by: Berserker-Dragonheads Division at February 26, 2015 01:44 AM (FMbng) I know what you mean. I used to know the drill for checking timing chains. Turn the engine by hand until you could see the timing mark on the balancer. Turn the crankshaft back and forth, until you could feel it take up the slack in the timing chain both ways. Count the degrees on the scale. Six to eight was OK, 8 to 12 was "might as well replace it", and 13 or more was, "failure is imminent". I did a lot of them. That's the one thing I liked about my Plymouth 340 engine. It had a double roller timing chain with steel gears from the factory. I grenaded the nylon gear in my GTO with the 400 engine. Posted by: Berserker-Dragonheads Division at February 26, 2015 01:53 AM (FMbng) Yeah, the roller chains and sprockets stood up a lot better than the so-called "silent" chains with their plastic coated gears. Me, I liked the Studebaker engines. No timing chain at all. They had gear-driven cams. One small-ish steel gear on the crank, and a large fiber gear on the cam. Even when the fiber gear was worn out, the slack rarely got above a single degree. And trucks and performance engines got aluminum cam gears. Same like VW beetles. As a small block afficianado, for the Muscle Car era the 340 was the best engine Chrysler ever turned out, the 350 LT-1 was the best Chevy, and the 351 Cleveland the best Ford engine.

I'm not gonna say the city is going to be shut down tomorrow but sure as hell I'm not driving in to work tonight because my car ain't a sled. Posted by: Gmac- Pulling in feelers in preperation... at February 26, 2015 02:54 AM (74McK) 467
I just want that hot little red 1964 1/2 Mustang convertible that sat in my neighbor's driveway for a few years. It sat there because the owner had been killed in Vietnam and the family couldn't bear to part with it. But it sat. And now I want it.

I loved the old Muscle Cars, but if some genie told me to pick any car from the 60's, I'd ask for a Jag E-Type. Figure if the car is going to spend more time in the garage than the road, might as well have one that's gorgeous to look at when it's sitting there
Posted by: kbdabear at February 26, 2015 02:26 AM There's no denying the lure of an old brit sports car. Posted by: otho at February 26, 2015 02:58 AM (tBSrv) 469
I drive a 1994 Honda Accord Wagon. I've got over 213K miles on the original engine, I park it outside, and I've had it repainted once. I'm thinking about trying to kludge a V6 into it when the powertrain dies, in about another 100K miles.

I'm feeling a bit off-kilter. It's probably from pulling weeds and trimming overhead vines, but I'm toddling.

This is art? Coating your subjects in honey and snapping pictures. Subjects include a dog and a baby coated in the golden liquid. Along with someone who is super-sized morbidly obese that will require plenty of brain bleach.

"Night Will Fall" by HBO. Footage is hard to take but the story it tells screams to be heard! Again. Posted by: Feral Cat Feeding Mumble Bum at February 26, 2015 05:37 AM (aXCDY) Posted by: Village Idiot's Apprentice at February 26, 2015 05:44 AM (YrXgo) 478
Once a government is committed to the
principle of silencing the voice of opposition, it has only one way to go, and that is down the path of increasingly repressive measures, until it becomes a source of terror to all its citizens and creates a country where everyone lives in fear. And you think that you have problems. Imagine how soul crushing it would be to have to have retracted this: Retraction notice to "Analyzing road surface conditions, collision time, and road structural factors associated with bicycle collisions from 2000 to 2010 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan" [J. Transp. Health 1/1 (2014) 40 - 44] Who ever would have suspected that the "publish or perish" ethos to gain academic tenure would have led to trivial tripe such as this (from the abstract)? Slipper (sic) road surfaces with gravel, sand, oil, and ice were associated with bicycle collisions. Cycling at night increased the odds of collision when compared to cycling in the day. Vehicle speed limits over 70 km/h increased the odds of bicycle collision when compared to speed limits of less than 60 km/h. Intersections were not associated with an increased odds of bicycle collision when compared to other road structures. This. Is. Science. Lactaid milk is for adults with reduced lactase, who used to really like milk but don't tolerate it as well as they used to. but many people without ANY genetic lactase persistence commonly find the idea of drinking milk unpleasant and feel aversion to it, even when the enzyme is added.
They may have trouble digesting more than the milk sugar. Posted by: SarahW at February 26, 2015 11:35 AM (Lbv/k) Processing 0.05, elapsed 0.0659 seconds. |
