1 Good Morning Morons. Today is Tuesday, February 24, 2015. On this day in 1582 Pope Gregory XIII issued the papal bull Inter gravissimas bringing in the Gregorian calendar. This calendar replaced the Julian calendar, which had been in use since 46 BC. The objective was to make the calendar more accurate with respect to the time it took the earth to rotate about the Sun in order to prevent the continued drift of the date of Easter.

3 Senate Dems with the aid of McConehead have blocked the DHS funding bill which would have killed Obama's illegal amnesty crap. And for those who are slow, yes Senate Republicans helped them with this for failing to pull what Hairy The Pederast did and use the 50 vote nuclear option for passing bills. They do not, and never have believed that turnabout is fair play. That is why Republicans continue to get their asses kicked. (More on this later)

I repeat, we have no Party.

9 Obama will get the Keystone Bill today. He says he will veto it if the 10 millionth study is not completed yet. The Senate was 5 votes shy of having enough to override a veto. Note that a lot of Democrats voted for this bill and yet the press does not call it bipartisan.

10 Stupid Obamanites are trying to kill the beef industry citing the non-existent global warming BS as a reason. They say that American's diet must consider the consequence of their diet on the environment. I just wish the MFing FSA would consider the consequences of selling their vote to a communist asshole.

And still going strong at age 90, Mrs. Schlafly wants to influence the GOP anew by warning against letting the party's kingmakers, the Wall Street elite and political consultant class, turn the 2016 presidential nomination contest into a coronation of former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush.

That wasn't in there to say blacks were only as good as 3/5s of a white person. It was a compromise with the Northern States regarding counting of people for the census to determine how many representatives a State got. The South wanted to count all of the slaves, which the North has fewer of. The North wanted to count none. So which is more racist?

Yeh, I understand.
I was being somewhat facetious about it.

I like rules and laws.
And I like them to be enforced without consideration to age, sex, race or family income level.
Those types of laws tend to be uniformly understood, and respected.

Like the law that says that if your car is in a railroad crossing when a train comes through, you're most likely going to die.

Usually, the only people who run afoul of that law are Darwin Award candidates.
Some small exceptions for broken down vehicles, of course.

114 Tuesday, February 24th Lenten reflection

Isaiah 55:10-12
Matthew 6:7-15

"For if you forgive people when they sin against you, your heavenly father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins."

Last winter I found myself really struggling to forgive someone. As winter faded into Spring, I thought I had finally forgiven them only to find the feelings of hate and anger overwhelming my mind again. That's when I realized I hadn't really forgiven this person....I had just forgotten about it

It's only human to want to strike back, to plot revenge, to simmer in bitterness. Forgiving those who hurt us is never easy. We are reminded every time we say the Lord's prayer: "Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us." When we ourselves ask for forgiveness, we realize that we are not that different from the person who sinned against us.

God is the author and inventor of forgiveness. For us to really forgive someone, we have to do it in His way, to move on and ultimately forgive in our hearts so that it no longer stands between us and our heavenly Father.

God doesn't want us to bound by bitterness and anger. He wants us to be free. We can only experience this freedom when we've exercised His grace and forgiven others their sins. If you feel it is impossible to to forgive someone ask God to help you.

A year later, I still remember the pain this person caused me. So how did I know I had finally forgiven them? It didn't hurt anymore. Forgiveness is healing.

Who has sinned against you? Who do you need to forgive? Perhaps you have just forgotten

JMW

(This comes from a book of Lenten reflections from a local RC church written by their parishioners. A person I know who attended on Ash Wednesday brought it back because I know I like this sort of thing, and I thought I would share it.)

Keep on praying!

Close their eyes. Right. That wouldn't have improved Officer Wilson's aim one bit.

I have some similar suggestions. Carry fresh flowers to offer to angry people. Give them backrubs. Lie down and ask them to put a bullet through your head if it would make them happier. We wouldn't want officers to seem threatening in any way, like they were the armed arm of the Law or anything.

There are multiple reasons they close school here in cold weather (upper WV); first is the consolidated HS they built on a hilltop without improving the winding twisting road. Second is the fact the diesel buses have a hard time turning over in this cold weather to hit the very rural hilltop routes at o'dark thirty. Haven't had a full spring break in this county since we moved here because of the union enforced school end-dates. Currently on snow day number 9

Of course asking for even a modicum of logic and common sense from most people any more is completely unrealistic, but ....

So if a president can "shut down" the "govt." or any agency if he doesn't get everything he wants, and blame anyone in Congress opposing this anything he wants, and that anyone can be effectively blamed and actually suffer political losses directly because of this - what, exactly, is Congress' role any longer?

The reductio ad absurdum, in this case, is instantaneous, and only a single step. And to make it far worse, the "absurdum" is actually a commonplace occurrence.

And yet there are still those who, apparently ingenuously, pretend to believe that the GOP actually, you know, engaging in politics (aren't they supposed to be politicians?), actually standing by key indisputable principles of the constitution, actually exercising their central power, all to oppose an incredibly disastrously stupid and outrageously unfair policy that is wildly unpopular with the electorate (not just their voters) .... is too risky.

Not a single thing about the immigration system is "broken" (non-enforcement is an elective, artificial problem, not a systemic one). But the constitutional system appears broken, gathering dust in the corner.

Fourth Virginia, Neptune's Inferno is excellent. As are Tin Can Sailors and Ghost Ship, also by Hornfischer. Apparently he's a friendly sort - I think it was commenter Yip (sometimes an ONT regular) who's had lunch with him or at least talked to him after reading his books.

Mind (blowing) exercise. Read any of the intense battle scenes in Neptune's or Tin Can Sailors. Now find the WaPo (especially) or other MSM accounts from March 2003, during the sandstorm/rest-pause in Iraq.

Try to wrap your mind around the incredible ferocity, risk, and uncertainty of the naval combat in 1942, and then behold the idiotic panic-ky nonsense of 2003 (and not just, though mostly, among the "journalists").
