Global Warming Ch-Ch-Chills Eastern US; Global Warming Freezes More Ice On Great Lakes Than Ever Before In All of Recorded History

And there's more Global Warming on the way!

One of the coldest Februaries ever.

And the Great Lakes more clotted with more ice than at any point in all of recorded history.

So much Global Warming. And another blast of it coming next week.

Incidentally (this is from last October) leaves may absorb far more CO2 than the Sacred Global Warming Models assume.

Global warming may not be damaging the Earth as quickly as feared after scientists found that plants can soak up more carbon dioxide than previously thought.

According to researchers, climate models have failed to take into account that when carbon dioxide increases in the atmosphere, plants thrive, become larger, and are able to absorb more CO2.

As part of the carbon cycle, plants use light to photosynthesise carbon dioxide, turning it into carbohydrate to grow and releasing oxygen as a waste product.
Now a team at Wyoming University has found that carbon dioxide stays in leaves longer than previously thought, acting as a fertiliser and accelerating plant growth.
"The terrestrial biosphere may absorb more CO2 than previously thought, said lead author Professor Ying Sun, of Wyoming University.

The scientists say it explains why levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere are not rising as quickly as models predict.

The team estimates that climate scientists have underestimated the ability of plants to grow and absorb carbon dioxide by as much as 16 per cent.

Sure you get everything wrong, but I say we just obey the living shit out of everything you say, anyway.

Actually, the "Climate Change Crisis" is becoming extremely serious.

For real.

But the "crisis" of which I speak is that the left and the "warmists' -- who have positions of power -- have declared that "the debate is over" and that their prescription must be obeyed.

Simultaneously, there is an extremely vocal and growing majority of people -- powerless people -- who think they're full of shit.

This - - in all honesty -- is the recipe for a major social conflagration or counter-revolution.

Never mind that according to their own damned GHG *theory*, water vapor is a much more effective GHG than CO2 and should therefore be warming the planet more according to their own damned *hypothesis*.

Ha, no. Global Warming means that even if it's not getting any warmer we have to increase the cost of everything (to reduce the amount of CO2 released), especially clean water. So, when clean water becomes dear (because it costs a couple of dollars per gallon now because of all of the carbon taxes) they can blame the shortage on the warming because they had to tax the carbon to stop the warming. Or something.

67 WASHINGTON - Exactly 20 years after warning America about global warming, a top NASA scientist said the situation has gotten so bad that the world's only hope is drastic action.

James Hansen told Congress on Monday that the world has long passed the "dangerous level" for greenhouse gases in the atmosphere and needs to get back to 1988 levels. He said Earth's atmosphere can only stay this loaded with man-made carbon dioxide for a couple more decades without changes such as mass extinction, ecosystem collapse and dramatic sea level rises.

"We're toast if we don't get on a very different path," Hansen, director of the Goddard Institute of Space Sciences who is sometimes called the godfather of global warming science, told The Associated Press. "This is the last chance."

88 James Hansen told Congress on Monday that the world has long passed the "dangerous level" for greenhouse gases in the atmosphere and needs to get back to 1988 levels. He said Earth's atmosphere can only stay this loaded with man-made carbon dioxide for a couple more decades without changes such as mass extinction, ecosystem collapse and dramatic sea level rises.

99 I didn't used to like it when our side said - hey, it's cold outside, that means no global warming (weather v. climate). But every time there's the threat of a hurricane, or a tornado, or just a severe winter storm, Bill Nye, NDGT and the rest come out yelling "climate change"* so, yeah, let's shove it back down their throat

So, I guess you could say I'm warming up to the tactic.

* I used to love it when they said a cold snap was due to global warming. I guess even they eventually realized how stupid they sounded, so they changed it to "climate change." Of course, that's equally stupid since the climate always changes over time.

Yeah, I overheard on the news that my FiL likes to watch that they have basically gone full Orwell on this. It was something to the effect of "Despite all these record snowfalls and low temperatures, January was the warmest month on record."

Now, I know what they're trying to do there. Claim it's the warmest "globally" (but of course they had to "normalize" and edit and fudge to get there) even though we're getting hammered in the states, but the vast majority of their viewership isn't going to resonate with that connection when their lying eyes and frozen balls are telling them something different.

They'd do better to remain silent than try this tactic.

To prove AGW (Anthropogenic: man-made), you would have to be able to prove that the global climate didn't change significantly without the presence of man and/or that the change since the industrial revolution was somehow faster or to a greater degree than the natural cycle.

Posted by: Gristle Encased Head at February 20, 2015 02:57 PM (+lsX1)

159 The absolute best chart to neutralize any panic over global warming is the one that shows temperature variations on earth on the scale of tens-of-thousands to millions of years.

It showed the temperature alternately skyrocketing and plummeting in cycle after cycle after cycle, up to highs far above what we have now, and down to lows that caused half the planet in ice.

And then back again.

And the kicker is to have a little red dot indicating where we are now -- right in the middle of a cycle, a little below average.

You -- anyone -- sees that, and you realize several keys facts:

- Almost all of this happened before industrialization, and so was not man-made;
- Life in all its variety somehow managed to survive not just ONE of these cycles but ALL OF THEM, repeatedly, highs and lows, for millions of years;
- Therefore, EVEN IF THE EARTH IS WARMING, it is no big deal and won't cause any crisis or mass extinction event. It's just another random phase of earth's history. In fact, there is MORE LIFE AND MORE BIODIVERSITY DURING HOT PHASES.

170 I live in Florida -- we've never had so many God damned Yankee snowbirds, clogging up the roads with their Buicks and Oldsmobilee and Crown Victorias.

Seriously, the population of my small seaside town has just about tripled.

175 >>>The only problem with this snark is that it's been record *warm* west of the Rockies this winter. The East Coast is 40 degrees below normal, but it's 40 degrees above normal in Alaska.
.
.
.I don't believe that is the point of the post. The point is the fact that all of the "believers" constantly harp about record high temps anywhere being proof of Global Warming/Climate Change and when temps go south, they pout and claim "oh that just weather".

Also, they point to ice melts in the Arctic and Great lakes as proof that Global Whatever is happening at an accelerated rate. For the last few years Ice levels on both the Arctic and Great Lakes have rebounded with a fury, and that is really pi$$ing them off.

177 Vic,
been hovering around 21 here, too.
it was 6 overnight. Supposed to be single digit again tonight, then in the fifties this weekend.

All that shoveling was for nought! I should've just waited for The Meltdown.

The link I posted a few days ago said that we were hitting lows that we
had not seen since they started recording temps in the 1800s. Here in
SOUTH Carolina we hit 9F the day before yesterday as a low and a high of
30F.

That is the coldest I have seen since I started living
here in 1977. But if yu ask the isiot warmies that rfedord cold is
caused by Global Warming. Oh, I guess the new term is Climate Chaos.

Every one of those assholes should be in jail.

Back in January of '63 I remember my father sticking a mercury thermometer outside the windowsill overnight and checking it a lot. Lowest he saw was -13. The next day when I was let outside there were frost crystals coming out of the red clay 3" to 4", they were huge fun to stomp.

I agree that the idiots promoting this bullshit all need to be thrown in jail.

181 undoing all the damage of the car- based city designs we've used for centries.

I challenge them to present a single "car-based city" before WWI. No, um, cars.

Luckily for us, a horse-based city looks a little like a car-based city. Except for shit in the street, and watering troughs. Steam cars went by the wayside when those pesky health campaigners drained the troughs. No more free water.

The "trouble," if you want to call it that, is that the US had some train-based cities, and streetcar-based cities. It took work to adapt those to cars, but they were willing to do it because there was so much graft and corruption in the Traction Trusts. You never meet an anti-car campaigner who knows what those were.

A "car-based city" is the sprawling, Edge City wonderland of small civic centers many of us know now. In a city of half a million or so, it is, by the lights of one hundred years ago, a paradise on earth. In a case like LA, where you put 6 or 8 million people in a hole in the desert, you're going to have some problems. LA in the streetcar era had a million, total, that's it. Even then they ran out of water.

185 Caught a few minutes of National Public Whimpering and Whining while in the car. Almost had to power the window down and harf up lunch. Some native tribe, poohawks or fugawes, can't remember which, tried suing a bunch of companies for hiring their own scientists to counter the arguments of the warmists re: man caused rising sea level. As they righteously put it, the companies were trying to subvert the inerrant !Truth of Settled Science!.
Meanwhile, there are plenty o' chunks of ice in lower Narragansett Bay, where it mixes with the Atlantic. And my goddam boiler went tango uniform and I can''t get a replacement until Monday. At least in doing so, it thoughtfully dumped the water out of the pipes onto the floor around it, so no burst heating system pipes.

187 According to researchers, climate models have failed to take into account that when carbon dioxide increases in the atmosphere, plants thrive, become larger, and are able to absorb more CO2.

Jesus. Fucking. Christ.

This argument has been made for at least the last decade. How is it possible that researchers are only now coming forth with it?
